Going back to the OP suggestion of getting rid of servers all together. I think it would be worth a look at doing this. I could see letting people vote for the color they want for the coming week and when numbers get to a certain point you just get placed where the numbers are lowest. People in guilds and alliances would just need to make sure to vote early so they go where they want to. Servers are such a mess right now, the game really needs some kind of revamp in my opinion.

I read all your posts and I see what your saying, but I also see a lot of veiled complaints that don’t make a whole lot of sense such as:

“Unless you like getting hunted down and killed like a dog for appearing to be OP/Hacker, stealth &/or mobility are necessary to escape the inevitable mob”

and

“you can solo roam but expect to end up getting run down by a wolfpack if you are being mildly effective”

You have a right to your opinion but so do I.

I like that wvw is kind of a sandbox in that you can make game play your way, in your case roaming. What I don’t get is your complaining because others who choose to group up come and kill you. Should they just ignore you and let you keep ganking and causing havoc? I play solo most of the time and when I get mobbed I just rez and run back out there. I just don’t get it.

Its been awhile, definitely before HOT came out, but ANET did do this. They asked for guilds to volunteer to have them guest. My guild at the time was one of them. They didn’t stay long and didn’t say much but they did join our TS. I think my guild mates were a bit scared to say anything and so not much came of it.

I wouldn’t mind seeing all the tactivators and such brought by the expansion removed from wvw entirely. But the castle is fine the way it is in my opinion.

I just really like fighting out in the open. As it is I try to do some scouting and hang around to defend objectives but it’s getting kind of stale. I find running in a zerg incredibly boring and roaming is just not my thing.

You like to fight in open but you don’t like zerging or roaming? Wtf you do then? My mind is blown…

I guess when I say zerg. what I meant was karma train.

I used to be in a guild that only looked for small scale fights and that was really fun, but that was back before HOT, they are since defunct.

So yea at this point I look for swords and run looking for a fight. Maybe that is roaming solo, but I don’t run around jumping people out of the blue, just not my thing.

In my opinion AOE should only be able to cover 50% of the top of the wall. As it is now, running along a wall is instant death (at least for my necro, it is).

I had a feeling it was a mistake to use the word orb as an example. It wasn’t my intention to bring up the past here.

What I find fun about WVW is spontaneous, impromptu fights that come out of no where. Maybe it’s not a popular kind of game play, was just trying to get a conversation going to see if there are like minded players.

Maybe give anet and the player base something to think about.

What about putting an objective in the middle of all the maps, for instance an orb.

When someone takes it they then get a tag like a commander tag but with a different shape for instance, this person the generates an aura that gives a buff to friendly players within a certain area.

This orb can then in turn be taken by an enemy player by downing the holder. Give it a timer, say 10 minutes and then it resets to its starting area.

Don’t make the buff to OP but just enough to make it attractive.

What i’d like to see from this is more players out in the open fighting and less hiding behind walls.

Really just some random ponderings but what do think? Any other ideas come to mind?

Good lord are you really talking about FA? We barely have commanders on at primetime. It’s been like a ghost town out there in the off hours. Where do these rumors come from? I think we’ve gotten a few new guilds but they may be from SOR. Honestly FA is probably better off in T3, just my personal opinion.

Your idea has merit, the problem is some people would abuse it. People flock to the winning servers causing imbalance. It’s one of the big problems in wvw right now. If you could simply switch guilds and get an instant transfer it would be chaos.

The other factor, as you mentioned, anet makes money from people buying gems to transfer so it’s not likely they will change it.

“World vs World is unavailable while matches are being updated”, while other players are already fighting since an hour. If someone DCs, he cant get back in. Maybe a bug with queues? since I see none.

Wow!!! Such a huge change! It must of took them 2 days to code this and 3 days to test it!!! Such involvement, so much different!

Now we have same situation as before, same blobs as before, same lags (not to forget skill lags), same bugs BUT we need to reenter map every 2 hours!!! This is gonna improve GvG so much!!

I’m so excited!!!!!

I think the score is all that resets, we won’t have to leave wvw. Pretty much as it is now only determined differently.

I’m hopeful that this will be an improvement, if for nothing else people will come back to try it out. Like others have said, it might make for better fights, if people look at it as a small win for just the single skirmish and not worry so much for the overall score.

Also this is just the start as anet said and there will be more added, so we’ll just have to see what the next update brings.

I for one see this as good thing and so thankful to anet for trying to improve WVW, I’m crossing my fingers that this brings in more players.

I’ve never dueled, so correct me if I’m wrong, but i believe you /bow to each other before the fight and don’t stomp if you down the person, letting them get back up.

I have a really hard time determining who is and isn’t dueling, so usually I just run on past small fights unless there uneven.

If your looking for a project you might consider FA, we’re at the bottom of tier 2 and in my opinion just lacking more commanders. Our militia is keeping us a float but we are slowly sinking. So if working for an underdog might interest you, give FA a look.

wvw is the only reason I play gw2. If they came out with a new and improved wvw that was its own game, separate from pve and pvp. I would definitely at least try it and pay a monthly fee if I felt it was worth it. But in its current state no way.

I think people are forgetting how useful revive orbs aren’t. Remember you get a debuff on you that means you’re essentially 1 shot for 5s, even an ambient could kill you when you get up and you bet players will wait on people who are rezzing with an orb to spam /laugh as they down you in hit from the auto.

I think you are forgetting how annoying it is to have to sit and wait for a mesmer to wp after a keep flips.

Remember how much fun it was sitting there for an hour before they added the 5 minute time limit? Why the kitten would anyone support bringing that back?

Doesn’t locust swarm stop working when you do damage? I’ve never used it in a combat situation but I know when I’m running with it and it hits a rat or something I slow back down.

They already have a Colosseum, its in Obsidian Sanctum. Just make it so anyone who enters automatically goes red and do a highlander thing, you know “There can be only one” or a quake like deathmatch every 15 minutes.

I crash sometimes but I’m playing on a potato. I never DC. Not trying to be a troll but just saying maybe it’s on your end. I ‘ve had problems in the past where my connection will drop because of line noise (DSL) mostly when it’s raining. But with a better internet it hasn’t happened in a year or so.

I think you really need to just jump in headfirst and see for your self. The sticky will make much more sense after you’ve looked around a bit. That’s what I did way back when I was just a wee level 15 thief and the game had just come out. Its all I play now and would highly recommend it to any new players with an interest in world pvp.

Might as well ask here as well, what is the benefit of seaweed salad? Someone told me it was the 10% damage while moving, doesn’t seem like that would be that great an improvement. I use saffron bread because I really, really hate being stunned.

Any thoughts on food and also utility buffs?

Think I have travellers on my rabid set. We’re so freaking slow anything helps. I keep locust signet and give up the slot with the intention of switching when needed, but I always forget.
I use warhorn on the off chance it works for a quick escape but it almost always fails. If I’m running in a zerg speed isn’t really a problem but I usually run around alone. Would be nice if we had more mobility.

I’m on Fort Aspenwood and I’m not seeing this. There is a general decline in players but all maps seem to be fairly equal. I blame the match ups as the reason for the decline not the maps.

if your running 32bit OS like me, you maybe running out of memory. Next time you crash, copy the first few lines of the report that comes up (says see more info or something) and paste into the thread that a anet admin posted in, they maybe able to tell you whats happening.

I’ve tried Dire, but I liked Rabid better. I got better survivability but it didn’t seem like I was doing much damage. Marauders gives me damage, but health is a concern. I guess you can’t have it all. I was thinking of getting durability runes but they would use up most of my proof of heroics.

What about ascended marauders set with durability runes? I see a lot of people saying there “cheesey?” I’m not going to be starting any 1v1’s out there, it would be just as defense. My thing is I want to be able to get from point a to point b without getting ganked and still be effective defending objectives. I don’t really play the game as the majority of players do.

So I’ve crafted the damask for an ascended set for my reaper but can’t decide what stats to pick. Currently I’m using marauders (basically metabattle midline build) with ok results so I’m leaning toward that but would like to see what others opinions are.

I only play in wvw and I don’t roam and only rarely run with a zerg. I like to jump in where needed in what ever fight is going on as well as running supply and refreshing siege.

I know there is a lot of debate over condi vs. power any input on this also would be helpful.

you might want to check out Fort Aspenwood, although there isn’t a lot of people on at that hour everyone scouts and everyone will come to defend when a call comes out.

As an old guy that doesn’t sleep well, I come on at all times of the night and there is always other players on, just not a lot. There is also a guild that runs a zerg around midnight some nights. Other FA players might have more info on this.

I’m new to reaper and I’ve been noticing that my life force seems to dissipate a lot more then it did as a vanilla necro. Just wondering if anyone has noticed this as well and is it normal or a bug? Is it something I might have traited as a necro that I’m not as a reaper. I’m using the metabattle wells midline build.

And I mean when I’m not using it.

As for voice chat in game, I’d be all for it but hardly any PC game has it. I wonder if teamspeak and the like throw kickbacks at the game industry to not use it.

Since this last patch I’ve been seeing all kinds of strange things, yaks walking under ground, npc’s walking across open air in Hills and when I walk into outer garrison from the east it looks like the top most bridge is exploding into bits.

Just a thought here, but what if there were two separate scores. One for upper tiers and a second for the lower tiers. The second score would determine what server would pair with another. That would maintain some server pride and still hopefully keep people playing. Not sure how points are gathered, if it could be separated in some way.

That’s basically obsidian sanctum … although for some reason they made it down the tunnel a ways. A gladiator pit. It could be much more useful if implemented a little more accessible and people had a reason to go in there. people like stats, our current leaderboards are … okay, wish Anet would wave a magic wand and come up with something for smaller teams/matches or support those guild initiatives. The gladiator pit could be or mean something. But as it is… its just an empty uninviting pit that provides little value to player, guild, server, or game.

I still play openarena and quake 3 arena. Both are still fun to me after so many years. That arena would be perfect for something of that nature. Add leaderboards and make it easy to join and spontaneous. I don’t play pvp so that might sound similar but I’m thinking of it as an extension of wvw and more casual play.
