I like Retreat anyway, get 50% boon duration and you have full-time runspeed. Works with boon duration builds, if you’re going that way, or Pack runes with Chocolate Omnomberry Creams. Speed runes are an alternative to Traveler, they’re not great, but can complement a low-vitality armor set.

But yeah, the efforts we have to go through for runspeed is painful.

I personally think the Jade Dragon Shield is the best looking shield in the game, but if you don’t have a Jade Dragon Claim Ticket banked, that may not be an option for you until next year’s Dragon Bash.

And although most people seemed to hate the Sovereign skins, I think the Sovereign Defender is pretty slick (especially when paired with the Rolling Pin of Righteousness…errrrr, the Sovereign Punisher/mace). Though again, I guess you might not be able to get that one again until the next Jubilee.

Check out Obtena’s builds, and the Pyroclasm sticky at the top for ideas.

Personally, I approach burning as a “modifier-enabler”. When used with 10 in Zeal (10% against burning foes) and 25 in Radiance (10% against foes with conditions), it really ups your melee damage output. Add in Burning Duration from Master Radiance trait (VII or VIII? too lazy to look it up), and you get 1/3 longer burns. Combined with torch, JI, VoJ spam, and fast-attacking sword (or any combination of the above), you get lots of fast re-applied burns that last longer if they’re not cleansed. Any damage burning actually does on top of that is gravy.

But I’m pretty terribad, so take my advice with a grain of salt. =)

Eh, you’re right. The assumption was mine (and we all know what happens when you AssUMe), but those skins were mined from the client files, and were labeled with “Back to School Clothes” well before we ever heard of the SAB/BtS content. Doesn’t take very complex math to come to the conclusion I did, especially when we now have a “Back to School” living story going on (and I’m taking a breather from LS right now, no interest in SAB, but…where’s the Back-to-School aspect of this LS, anyway?)

Maybe they found issues with the skins that they’re hammering out, or just decided to drop them for some other reason. Or maybe they’ll arrive next week. Or the week after. Or never, lol.

@Jadie – There were supposed to be School Uniforms/Back-to-School Clothes as part of this Back-to-School LS (they were mined from client files early in the summer). I’ve actually been sitting on a stack of Gems in anticipation of them (as ridiculous as that sounds).

@Lisa – Boredom with the rest of the game, for the most part, in my case. I do a lot of standing around Lion’s Arch these days.

This cold fact hit very hard after the leaked patch and I haven’t log’d onto my Guard since.

It hit me when I realized that I was looking forward to the introduction of the Back-to-School Uniform town clothes more than I was the Guardian changes.

Zeal 15 is fine as is.

Zeal 25 is a joke, it needs to be Symbols do 50% more damage, not 10%, and then we’re talking. I’m also very open to the chill suggestion for Zeal 25.

Honor III (Larger) and VII (Last Longer) need to be combined, and left at the Master level. (I guess this opens up an Adept trait slot, but whatevs)

Honor X (Heals) needs to use the same coefficient as Regeneration does (like Mace II Symbol of Faith) to justify being a Grandmaster trait.

This is about as evil as Pru gets. Most days she’s purple and glowy, but apparently right now she’s “going through something”. =)

Don’t forget that SiN is only active while in combat. Did you check the Precision value while fighting something? =)

I’ve been using Celestial Amulet + Rings since they’ve come out and am currently saving for the Accessories… kitten anet for only allowing laurels via dailies in WvW and not Lord Killing/Defending. LAME (just another reason why WvW gets ‘back of the bus’ to the kittenty kitten pve’rs)…. anyhoot, i regress.

I think guardians are one of the best classes for all around stat distribution… it just feels ‘right’ and they make an incredible base for the class.

I change my armor around for the type of play-style I want: Zerk, Pvt, Clerics, etc.

I do the same thing. All 5 Celestial jewelry, still leaves armor, runes, weapons, back slot and consumables, and of course spec, for tweaking from a nice balanced base.

Nah, offsetting your traits vs. your equipment is perfectly viable, there are lots of good builds you can come up with that way. with a 0/5/30/30/5 and zerk exotics you should be golden. Get some karma PVT (what else you got to spend that karma on?) and craft some Knights pieces to swap in, just like you said.

I’m a big fan of Save Yourselves! … the “I’m about to open up a can of whoop-kitten on you for the next 13 seconds” skill.

Yea the skill is anet for sure. Rarely works as it should. And is pretty worthless as an escape means as a random mob walking in it will put you into combat. Let alone of one of the enemy’s you are trying to avoid steps in it so their mates can burn you down.

Again, as an aside, this can be a good thing. Enemies pass over it when you place it down in the zerg…if it ticks on them, they become rally bait.

As an aside, the pulses do have an upside…they synergize very well with AH if you cast it into a scrum of your allies.

You’re assuming that you’ll constantly hit 5 people for the full duration which against any skilled player(s) will never happen.

Okay, I have a question. Why does the entire symbol need to hit all possible targets for all possible ticks, or else it’s worthless?

Applying this same logic to, say, Whirling Wrath…how many times does it hit 5 opponents all 9 hits. Is it worthless? Do you ever use it when the situation isn’t going to be 100% optimal?

Also, don’t get hung up on a set of anything. Lots of folks mix soldier, valk, zerk and knight. Mix and match to get the stats you want, there’s not necessarily a reason to stick to one prefix unless that’s exactly what you’re gearing for. Find a chart (I’d point you to one, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen one) that shows you how many stat points you give up for crit dmg % (eg, boots, gloves and shoulders are the least stat loss for great crit dmg % gain, accessories IIRC are a better deal than rings, etc).

Unless you’re going all zerk…tough to replace that, lol. (Wish I was good enough to run all zerk!)

It simply pulses every second for the duration, so it’s possible for you to cross the symbol between pulses. Apparently there is a sweet-spot to casting it ahead of yourself, but I’ve never been able to get it down, personally.

please enlighten me! you just stack boon duration? i find the guardian swiftness situation VERY bothersome. its the lack of out of combat speed that bothers me.

It’s nothing sezzy, but I combine: Superior Aria, Retreat/Save Yourselves!, Chocolate Omnomberry Cream, and Superior Rune of the Pack (x6). Gives me, IIRC, about 94% Swiftness uptime (comes to about a 3-second swiftness downtime, around 45 out of 48 seconds superspeediness).

I’m already using a shout build, so Aria and Retreat/SY are already built-in for my build. Pack is a great rune even ignoring the Swiftness duration boost, and you aren’t gimping yourself by going 3 different sets of Swiftness runes. The only thing you’re actually dedicating to the Swiftness duration is the food.
