Warrior trait not working in LS2 story mode

One simple way to watch for this type of behavior is if you don’t see the experience number pop up on a kill, there won’t be an ‘on-kill’ trigger.

People in the map call out where the t6 nodes are so it’s not like you have to remap the whole area. Less convenient – yes. As bad as it could be – no.

Game Updates: Runes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Algoran.3719

Can’t remove runes from gear without destroying the gear or using a cash shop extractor.
Can’t guarantee getting a rune back salvaging unless you use the cash shop salvage kits.
Can’t move runes to new gear because of the transmutation stone changes.
Can’t salvage certain gear at all, have to buy extractors.
Or go buy new runes from the flipper’s paradise. I’m sure they’ll love your business.

Why would anyone want to play a game that puts you in this situation?

This is not news. This has been true for almost 2 years. Why the sudden rancor?

The problem is really with his third point. Now if I have armor now that I like the look of and the rune in it, but I find better stat armor I can’t just use one transmutation crystal to move the old look and old rune to the new stats armor. Instead I have to use a transmutation charge to make the new stat armor look like I want it to and then either buy a new rune or hopefully salvage it out of the old armor. It’s a 2 step process now instead of a 1 step process.

They already do something like this. My wife never gets credit for events/champions when she plays her Mesmer or Necro and I’ll get Gold for firing off a single Barrage or dropping an Elemental as I run past to explore other parts of the map. Perhaps contribution time and player location should factor into it somehow as well. It would suck if the only people who get credit for these things are the zerking Warrior/Guardian/Thief that are up close and started the event (thereby jacking up the average damage)

Even as an PvE S/D I’d prefer the PBAoE version of AW. I like the option to RtL into a group, AW, then Updraft away while knocking people down. I can help any warrior that’s waded into the heart of the mob. The extra click will really slow down the Updraft escape.

If ANet was worried about having 2 similar skill then don’t design a new skill that looks like an existing skill. What’s so hard to understand about that?

Character Creation Dates are Wrong

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Algoran.3719

Algoran.3719

It’s frightening what visibility (or lack there of) ANet claims to have into the characters they support. How is it that Karma, which can change second to second, can be magically backfilled, yet creation date, a single field that is static, with few to no system repercussions, can’t be touched? This is as bad as the personal story screw up – I had to reroll a level 40 character to get him back to where I wanted him (talk about screwing up my creation date!)

If character information is stored in a database system then there should be an amazing reason that creation date for a character can’t be updated. Support should be able to look through your character’s history (specifically when Karma was earned) and tell if the character was played prior to the created date they have in their system (assuming you played the character within that 16 day period and completed any events).

Details about the Guild Wars 2 First Birthday Gift

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Algoran.3719

Algoran.3719

No, a few people received a second gift. Not a lot, but a few. This was a factor of how the distribution was made, and how the fix was rolled out. It’s not an intentional double-gifting, and you got everything to which you are entitled and of course we’re sorry for any confusion that this caused.

Not entirely sure how “intentional double-gifting” would be defined, then.

Last night, when the patch hit, literally everyone on my server’s voice chat who had received a first present received a second one.

Some people are now sitting on 20+ Birthday Boosters and wastes of bank space Mini Queen Jennahs.

Yeah, I’m having difficult understanding how the double gifting isn’t intentional. If it was unintentional then is ANet saying it’s a bug just like the lack of gifts was? Did the devs understand the problem that little yet got pressured to just pump out any kind of solution to placate the community? I’d love to know more about the initial bug. Anniversary triggers seem like they’d be based on simple date difference method calls. That’s usually in a well-defined library that’s been used for years (nobody writes time manipulation libraries anymore unless they’re in school). So, either way, it’s a little unsettling. Clearly ANet feels anniversary gifts are important as they’ve been called ‘entitlements’ (though I missed that part of the EULA I agreed to ) so I hope it’s been cleared up for next year.

I bought the CE, I'd like the Heroic items

I noticed this as well. I’d like to have the 18 slot box. In most cases, when the contents of an item change, the names changes accordingly. The example of the car above is perfect – model name stays the same but the product name doesn’t (2012 Honda Civic vs 2013 Honda Civic). However, in this case ANet is still calling it the Digital Deluxe Edition. I have a friend who I’m trying to get into GW2. She’s in the trial weekend and asked how much the game was. I pulled up the page to show her the different levels and told her that my wife and I pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition. I then saw the list of items included and thought “What? I didn’t get this…”

Normally, pre-order people get incentives/exclusives. I guess for us it was only the 3-day headstart and now there are different incentives. It’s disappointing since it’s something that ANet could easily “mitigate” given how fast/easily they jumped on the karma issue from the last update or the missing Southsun LS event reward.

We need culling back

I don’t think the majority of the playerbase should suffer because a select few decide to play the game on potatoes and toasters.

But Anet’s goal has always been to lower the common denominator to allow more people to play (for better or worse). Just stating that you think less people should be able to play today does not make it a goal that Anet agrees with.

the problem is that anet has been too kind to people on ancient or very low-end machines. the game’s still running on DX9 and it massively prioritizes CPU power over any peripheral GPU, probably because casual players on low-end machines are more likely to have stronger processors than graphics cards.

even then, the engine’s resource management is horrendous. even with your GPU gathering dust, multiple CPU cores are wasted because the engine is optimized solely for single-thread management like it’s still 2005 or something.

there’s no consumer hardware on the market that can run this game at a consistent 60+ in any and all areas. your performance is tied almost entirely to your clock speed, something that’s far harder to upgrade than a GPU, and once you’ve clocked to ~4.5ish (enjoy that hefy liquid cooling price tag to boot) you’re pretty much done.

anet basically tried to aim for way too wide a market and ended up pleasing no one.

Exactly. It’s a poor plan to tie yourself to an older technology in order to support a lower common denominator and then turn around and implement a feature that relies on a known weakness of that technology.

I’m currently (as in this week) trying to spec out a new PC for a friend who wants to start playing GW2. This update may have just upped the cost of admission for her. Playing GW2 with my wife and I is 90% of the reason she wants a new PC. Guess we’ll just see how it goes…

Karma jugs hoarding

Banking anything is a gamble. You’re betting that it’ll be worth more in the future. You hope that the market or those in charge of the market allow for you to make a profit. Does it always happen? Nope… Do you rage quit your real-life bank every time the interest rate drops?

Did any karma-items go up in price? Not that I’m aware of. In that regard (as others have said) most people see a profit in what ANet did.

You gambled, you ‘lost’. Deal with it and quit QQing.

Full disclosure: I’ve been saving up my karma jugs since the Queen’s Jubilee started and have also missed out on a bunch of karma from boosts.

Release and head back to the dome, pick an easy-ish boss you know you can handle. Drag the fight out for as long as you can. Your coin loss will be less than the farmers. Laugh.

Excellent idea. Heck I’ve spent my money to res and then went right back to the same dome just to waste the farmer’s time. The coin isn’t worth that much to me but if the inconsiderate farmers don’t feel they can take 30-45 seconds to res somebody, I’ll waste a full minute of their time. Now do the math on the ROI for the farmer’s time… Is that a sound enough argument? Need to beware the golden rule, sometimes people treat you the way you treat them.

All the rest of us ask for is a simple res and to share the dome.

Personally, I think ANet should just have all players rezzed once they leave the dome. Go ahead and keep the armor damage as there should be a price for failing, I’ve got no problem with that.

Doesn’t seem like it would be DR. The other day I was playing for a while and it was always Boom-Boom that failed to drop loot for me. The others in the pavilion dropped just fine every time I killed them. I did Boom-Boom twice that day I think and neither time got a drop.

They’re commenting on it as a design bug. Much grief is had when the instance creator has to quit and the rest of the team is kicked out at the end boss or before they can collect their loot. It’s more of a re-design request and should probably be in a suggestion-box type of thread.

For the Mailbox is full hint, try deleting all mail messages from ANet or NPCs. Not the Heart messages or the Green Star messages, just the ones with the envelope icons. Then have guild mates send you mail. That is was I had to do. It has been somewhat documented in other bug threads on the Hints Achievement.

For the Finish Opponent hint, I got nothing. I went to the Mists and did the little training island and got the achievement some time in the last 2 weeks. not sure if it bugged since then.

in my second chest I got a PvP award chest that contained 6 random PvP items soulbound to a character that can’t wear or wield them. I understand RNG, but at least make it account bound or constrain it to usable items. It was less than useless as a reward. I have to actually work to get back to where I was before the award (destroying the items). It’s not a lot of work, so I’m not complaining about it from that perspective. It’s the principle of the stupidity of awarding random soulbound items when the toon can’t use them.

I’ve had that happen to me before as well. No idea what caused it. For me, though, once it showed no attunement (like your screenshot) and once it showed me attuned. I figured it was one of the minor problems with the game and since I couldn’t reproduce it I wasn’t going to bother reporting.

Thief's Improvisation trait skill

I would guess that means that the Steal Ability randomly chose one of the other four (venoms, signets, traps, or tricks). The one it chooses may not be based on the skills you have equipped. How many times did you test this out?

This seems like it would be a pretty bad design decision, but if it only chose from the type of skills you had equipped, it may be overpowered.
