What other AAA MMOs are coming? There’s Pandaria, TESO which has features similar to GW2’s, what else?
Players should be given an idea of how to progress in pvp, how to get better gear, how to participate in tournaments. All these guidelines must be implemented into the game. Tutorials would be nice.
GW2 does provide players with great freedom when it comes to character customization. There are traits, weapon skills, utility skills, gear, etc.
However with traditional skill trees lacking do players know how to develop their character? The system is complex and it is not user friendly. GW2 has no explanations at all of different variations of sets of skills and traits.
Players new to MMO may become literally confused when it comes to putting points in certain traits and choosing skills.
What do you think?
And thief is supposed to be the most fun to play class of them all. That’s what the Brady guide said.
I guess everyone agrees. That’s discouraging.
Thieves are doing good in pve at all levels. If you are getting hit too much try using some defensive traits and/or slot skills. And be mobile.
You are talking about overall character customisation now. My idea is that most of the weapon sets are basically ineffective and therefore are rarely (if at all) used. And on top of that some players do not want to keep several weapons in their inventory and change them all the time. They prefer to stick to one or two weapons.
Yes, that’s my point. Two or three weapon sets. Not 6, 7 or 8.
How much weapon sets do you use?
I beleive there are only two (three max) weapon sets that players actively use. The more they play for a single character the narrower their weapon choice becomes. So a lot of weapon skills are unused. Do you agree?
I ended up using three weapon sets.
1. Dagger+Dagger
This is the ultimate damage dealing set for a thief. It’s very effective against single targets and good against multiple targets.
2. Short bow
Short bow is a must in chaotic fights with multiple enemies be it WvW or PVE fights due to its AoE features.
3. Pistol+Pistol
This set I use mainly in dungeons during boss fights. It’s good when you need to stay away from a single target and maximise your damage.
As I see it other sets are situational.
Pistol + Dagger
This is perfect for kiting. However damage is low and Pistol + Pistol outdoes this. Kiting can be substituted by using slot skills and traits. I don’t really see this set as very useful. Do you think it’s viable? When do you use it?
Dagger + Pistol
This is a mitigation set. Damage is lower than from D+D and it has two pistol mitigation abilities. Never used this. Why? What are your ideas?
Sword + Dagger
This set is rather interesting although I haven’t been using it much. Sword’s autoattack hits multiple foes so this is perhaps and AoE variant for melee. It has less mobility than D+D though and stealth is not so effective. So I guess the idea is a “Combat rogue” from WoW. Do you prefer this to short bow? I don’t.
All in all D+D shines and if you want to be a damage dealer (which is a primary role of a thief) you are best effective when using it. Short bow is another obvious choice for AoE at range.
Seems like these two sets are the most effective and as a damage dealer you are somewhat limited. What do you think?
Take a look at ranger’s last skill with two axes. A warrior should have something like that in terms of coolness. Adrenaline skill with swords is just so uncool.
The thing is it is based on account hacking and credit card stealing. These two can never be removed completely. You should also take into account Anet stance on cost effective MMO. They probably cannot have extensive staff numbers to deal with this issue.
Well I’m afraid you should get used to it. If removing them was easy, they would have been removed. Would be cool if someone with experience in this field could explain the complexities of the process to everybody.
Games are much more complicated nowadays than they were several years ago. Customers are somewhat spoiled and very demanding. GW title is known for its ability to dinamically update game client and add features on the go. Take your time and enjoy the game and these minor inconsistences will pass in due time.
Am I wrong or does this skill provides the only stun that cannot be broken by any means?
Would it be realistic to say that this game intentionally lacks serious class balance?
Thought that reporting a mail you get also blocks the sender?
If not there’s also a block function.I do hope they get banned fast.
Edit: And yeah I regret spending real money on gems back in beta.
I make maybe 2 gold a day on my Necro. That’s a lot of Gems.
Well, kind of glad that I supported something cool.
How do you make 2 gold a day?
I tend to agree with this. I can also say that this applies to any stealth ability. If you use stealth there is a great chance your autoattack will ruin it.
Greatswords are designed for pure DPS so that’s about it. Hammers are somewhat better when it comes to damage mitigation and control.
This is rather an overall design decision than a class specific one. Why do greatswords animations are so much faster than hammer ones? Greatswords should be as heavy as hammers if not heavier and yet your character swings greatsword like its a wooden stick or a wand of some sort.
Who finds this cool looking? I personally think it looks like killing flies with a newspaper.
Male norns cry too much when fighting in melee. I find it too repetitive. It sounds like they are having sex or like a bad tape in cassette recorder. Compare it with Charr melee sounds – different story. Why is this?
As I see it Guardians are mainly melee class. They are not supposed to be long range damage dealers. Scepters and staves are good fro support and healing and that’s about it. Seems logical design decision.
Warriors are in a similar situation. Rifles are not really a damage dealing weapon. Rifles are good for kiting. Longbows in warrior’s hands are first of all AoE weapons and not all around DPS weapon.
Oh and i forgot minions. In Diablo 2 necro had tens of skeletons.
And in GW2 look at bone minions. They are funny! I laughed when I first saw them really.
GW2 necro is just not for me. It seems not grim enough. It’s like an anime style. My ideal necro is from Diablo 2.
Look in GW2 necro is healing himself with what looks like red roses. And these green bubbles? The overall greenish design decision? No, not for me.
I believe thiefs are not specifically good at support. However there are some party based skills and traits here and there. Read traits and skills descriptions carefully – i’m sure you’ll come up with something. One thing you haven’t mentioned – Agility signet. It removes condition from you and your party members which is pretty iseful.
One of the funniest skills thiefs have. I use it in spvp at capture points. The most fun part comes into play when you forget about this trap and suddenly in the middle of a battle you get teleported to your trap with low health. Full healthed enemy standing right in front of you.
I find this skill quite useful in pvp. I charge it in spvp when approaching fights and this skill can also effectively stop running enemies.
Pretty sure devs cosidered the ideas layed out here when designing combat for GW2 and came out with the solution they found out to be the best.
Do you have a feeling that these two games have similar ideas put into them?
- no quest hubs
- limited number of actively available skills
- weapon learning system
- no trinity/no dedicated healer necessary
- active combat (evade, block)
