I basically mess around and do whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like when I play. I’m sitting on approaching 70g. Jormag’s Breath, Triforge, all the skins, dyes, etc I want for all my gear on my mesmer (crap farmer) main.
I’ve spent hours basically solo suicide rushing (and winning) against champions, who don’t pay well at all. On an undergeared alt. Because I felt like it. I bring consumable buffs to WvW when I participate. And I don’t farm beyond getting my accuracy stacks and the odd dungeon, because I feel like it.
I am pretty kitten rich as far as players go, and I don’t grind or farm beyond doing what I feel like doing. If the game (outside of legendaries) was meant to be some korean grinder where you have to sit down and farm to get anything, I wouldn’t be nearly as well off as I am.
9/10 for Qi Tian. Just about perfect for a Canthan name. It works in the lore and all, but it gives no sense of the person behind it’s upbringing or anyting beyond “It’s canthan”. Really though, this is just me nitpicking, it’s great.
Liliana Monteclaire. Again. Because we’ve moved on a page.
For clarity: i’m not the one, who complains about mesmers overpowered, but I think mesmer’s base health should be smaller.
Great idea. Let’s take away the illusions too, so that it is easier to target the real mesmer.
And yes, you are complaining right there, asking for a nerf is a clear sign for that, isn’t it.Take this talk to the PvP forums, there you might find some other like-minded. Or you could jump on the D/D ele train, as this class has a low base health, low armor and incredible survivability (without clones).
Sometimes I ask myself how people with so little clue about the game mechanics get the feeling that they might have any capability to balance this game.
I like to think I have a decent grasp of the game, and still no idea how to balance more than a few skills.
If they fix culling and such, being able to zoom to long distances would be nice. It would also be nice to have anywhere in the world.
Small addition, but nice to have.
Mesmer has only three sources of stealth, two on long cooldowns, and one with a long cast that demands we sacrifice timewarp. And one that sets a blatant AoE on the ground and doesn’t last long at all. Don’t go lumping us in with thieves on this.
That being said, I agree completely about thieves being overpowered. Even if they don’t win every fight ever (and they don’t), the amount of skill required to do well as a thief is so abysmally small. Being balanced for perfect, zero lag play isn’t fun for everyone else, especially when the thief requires much less skill to play perfectly on alot of their builds.
Haven’t I seen you somewhere?
…..
Nope, false alarm! it was that other dark warrior in dark colors with a dark name carrying twilight.Haven’t i seen you somewhere before?..
Nope , false alarm! It was that troll in troll colors with a troll name carrying well …nothing.
He is right, you know. Twilight is the most popular legendary. Black/Abyss/Midnight Ice are the three most popular dyes. Etc. Really, it’s common enough that it becomes hard to tell that there are other colors.
The only class squisher than us can build pure tank and overpower most everyone. Thief is about equal, everyone else is tankier. If the only base squishier class can go pure tank and be OP, and the only class equal to us happens to be the primary burst class in the game, I don’t think it’s a problem. We go down REALLY fast when our defenses are gone.
Adding CD’s to all the foods is EXACTLY what I think they’ll do.
They’ve been as busy as bees adding CD to almost every profession skill, and stopping at food would constitute an oversight from that point of view.
If you’re referring to shatter getting a GCD, that’s because of the multishatter bug, leading to instant kills. I don’t see them completely nerfing all foods to the floor, given so few people bring them to WvW as is, they don’t break the game, and they don’t affect their e-sports.
I wouldn’t spend money getting equipment for this build. Not because it’a a bad build, but ALL the classes are now putting up lifesteal pie builds. Even the poor engineers are putting up lifesteal flamethrower builds.
It might survive this coming patch without getting a cooldown, but it won’t survive the next.
If it doesn’t, I’ll just swap to Ghost pepper poppers and hit 25 might on a whim. It’s running off of the results of foods as a whole having no cooldowns, it works with most every food buff that ramps damage.
Besides, it, and all other food buffs are available to everyone equally. Unless they nerf all the foods, this build is easy to re-tool for a different food.
(edited by AnemoneMeer.7182)
Is anyone 100% positive this food actually steals life? I had heard that it’s only a heal, NOT life steal.
Yes. I can confirm it does damage. I was lasering down a supply camp leader with the buff on alone, without applying Vuln. It was takign zero damage from the laser, but additional numbers were popping up alongside the primary damage, and it’s health was going down.
Likewise, i can also confirm the damage ignores defense.
Was running it in WvW today, I was scoring double kills and triple kills on my own with little issue, even when the enemy was smart enough to focus me over the clones. The sheer amount of health you get back over a fight is absurd, as is the bonus damage on GS auto attacks.
Personally, my mesmer has a TON of Toughness, but not much Vitality. Traded off my crit damage. I’ll readily admit my build is a little weid, but I can easily make enemies focus on me, and via dodging and lifesteal, I can easily stay on top of enemies and outlast them, even bosses.
I lack the crit damage of glassy builds, but I’m pretty much indestructable except to insant kill attacks. And Omnom pies act as a great damage ramp when you are at 70% crit chance.
Well, this has gotten a little off of topic, so lets try to bring it back on topic.
So far, neither side seems opposed to the idea of other classes getting mass transit (Read: Not portal) skills that are different from portal, but still get enite groups from Point A to Point B. So, instead of bickering over what giving a carbon copy of portal to another class will do, why don’t we come up with what we’d both like to see from mass transit skills that are different from portal?
Engineer seems the obvious choice (though I could be biased, as I main engi). Call it Wayfare Gate or something, classify it as a gadget, same general function as Portal, maybe slightly longer CD so that way Mesmers can still be beautiful, unique snowflakes, and possibly make the toolbelt skill something minor, like a 2 second immobolize or something.
Slight miss there. I distinctly said with differences from mesmer portals. Not mesmer portals with a new name and a different cooldown.
Personally, I think that outside of the absolute basics for the game, classes should have entirely unique abilities. Wouldn’t be fun if every class was interchangable afterall.
I personally run a Knights/Divinity equipment set with ruby orbs in my armor, focused around Omnomberry pie ;ifesteal and an obscene crit rate o fully exploit the pies.
I’m probably less glassy than tank warriors with this spec in any sort of fight that goes past 5 seconds. You really don’t have to go glass cannon to do well as mesmer unless you’re talking about sPvP, where glass cannon is the only build for almost every class.
And to those who say glass cannon is the be all, end all build, I get damage on par with obscene crit damage stats on my melee, and more on my greatsword with most of my attacks, and don’t have to stop to cast my healing skill in most fights. And ignore protection most of the time.

An idea struck me when ANet mentioned that guesting will be restricted to just EU and NA servers/
Why don’t we make a sort of hub server on the EU servers, and on the NA servers, that you can transfer to freely, and the game will save your slot on your current server. You still have to transfer your data and sit though the delay for that, but it saves your main server along with that data.
To save space, said hub server consists only of Heart of the Mists, and is meant to be used as a stepping stone for guesting to any EU or NA server while on the opposite server cluster.
It’s a workaround, sure, and takes away from the instantness of guesting to other servers, but it does enable people to do so if they have the spare time.
Well, this has gotten a little off of topic, so lets try to bring it back on topic.
So far, neither side seems opposed to the idea of other classes getting mass transit (Read: Not portal) skills that are different from portal, but still get enite groups from Point A to Point B. I already said in an earlier post that an engineer portal gun would be cool. But my line of thinking is the same as AneomeMeters… It has just gotten derailed… But in all honesty would you not be okay with the current nerfs on mesmer portals being removed or even buffed if this change were to ever take effect?
Personally, I think the cooldown is just fine, but the portal’s lingering duration isn’t. Portal exit should last longer, but the cooldown should stay at 90 seconds.
Necromancer could get a sort of shadow summon skill that brings allies and enemies in a specific area to them instantly, ala AoE blink that requires the area to be pre-set and lacks the reach/two way of portal, instead being able to pull enemies off a point as well.
Phantasmal disenchanter’s effectiveness relies on the enemies inability to notice it. In sPvP and tPvP play, a ranged attacker can sink one to two shots into it, killing it before it acts
(edited by AnemoneMeer.7182)
Makes people loyal to their server for WvW, and guesting is FINALLY being added. I see this as a win/win.
I’m all for other classes having similar abilities to portals in terms of group mobility or personal relocation. I’m not at all okay with other classes having portals.
Make it something unique and fitting the class.
Why not make it an open zone, somewhere in the world. Say, southeast of cursed shore. Lower Arah or something, with it being an open zone scaled up faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar higher than Orr, with legitimate undead armies, and reward chests scattered about (Behind gates and such the players have to smash open) with actual, legitimate rewards. High amounts of exotics, rares, and ectos as a actual drop, but the area is pretty much scaled to level 90 enemies as a minimum. Start an event whenever a gate takes damage to make sure people can’t simply run around.
If the rewards are legitimately good (New gear skins, precursors, etc), people will come.

This coming from a mesmer. Engineers need buffs. This is a rare, gimmick build, and it’s utterly depressing that it’s considered at all “good” for engis… but it is, because engineers need buffs, and really should get them. IMO, alot of them.
I’d prefer to see Engi get buffed up to OP, and then nerfed down to balanced just so people finally start playing them and running them in teams.
While doing Fields of Ruin on my new warrior, I decided to give a go at killing the angry chickens. Apparently you can. Noting that I was doing damage, I decided to put on the most epic music I could find, and AFK in a corner with the chickens, my warrior healing for more than they do.

As long as they carry out their statements about making it available from a collection of sources, available to people regardless of playstyle, I couldn’t care less about however many new tiers of gear they add.
As long as everyone can, and does get to have it regardless of how they play, it’s perfectly fair for everyone.
I didn’t ignore his post outright. I read it. The issue is, even if road markers are effective, what does that do for the solo players, the players who don’t have an officer on at that moment, or the players playing with their friends instead of their guild at the moment.
It really doesn’t do anything. And it consumes building slots too. They’re good, and adding this doesn’t take away from road markers.
Please don’t make passive agressive insults like that.
great idea, would encourage people to go on roads and fun ambushes can be made available, different tactics can be made.if only wvw have thick woods and forests for guerilla warefare.
The terrain really should be rougher, shouldn’t it? As it sands, there’s only a few good places to set up a real ambush sadly.
Warrior can become a very powerful lynchpin for a group by basing themself around shous. At lvel 60, you unlock healing shouts, which AoE heal everyone around you. This also comes with severe boon duration buffs, letting you buff yourself, and everyone around you with those DPS buffs that damage only glass cannons love so much, while keeping them alive to brag about their 1337 dps (maybe not the best of things) as well as being a very strong resurrector. Add the proper runes, and you’re also condition proofing the party.
Mesmer can easily go heavy into support with Mantra of Pain specced into being a healing pulse. Phantasms specced into giving off AoE regen. Null field, and a third spell of your choice. Add timewarp and a staff, and you’re a healer, a support, and a supporting DPS all rolled up into one. Again, level 60 trait required.
Engineer is another level 60 trait required healer. Bomb kit and elixers let you heal and buff while being in melee. Every bomb you drop heals in an AoE, and you should be always dropping bombs as you run around the field.
Guardian’s perhaps the only one that can go healer without a level 60 trait, with their mace.
The big issue is that support builds for most classes only really open up at 60.
First they would have to bugfix ALL the bugs. There really are countless bugs left. Half of ele traits don’t do what they say they do, same for some other classes. As long as 30% of a class traits and skills are bugged you can’t really balance the classes.
Also every single utility needs to be viable. As it is right now every class has maybe 4-8 (if generous) utilities that are viable, the rest are utter bullcrap.
So we help by suggesting ways to buff said utilities. Which was the point of this thread.
Personally, I’d like to see warrior Kick have a lower cooldown. It eats a utility slot, barely lasts any time at all as a CC, does almost no damag,e and has a tiny range. A cooldown of say, 14 seconds seems about right in my eyes.
But how would you handle NPC. Would they get it or not?
Dolyak’s. No. Breakout event. Yes. Guardposts. Does it matter, you can solo them with one hand tied behind your back. Supply camps and such are considered off-road areas.
If you really want to go the extra mile, tie it to the guardpost flag for the region.
I somehow get the feeling all I wrote, and all the logic in it was completely overlooked, so I’m going to TL:DR it here.
I’ve been down this road before. Others have been down this road before. It doesn’t end well.
Resurrecting. Battle standard. It’s up long enough after to cart it over to the next fight, plant it down there, and keep fighting. Multiple resurrects possible in one cast. Fury, might, stability. No counter and it follows you if you try to run after it’s planted.
Supply drop is crap and needs buffs. This is an objective fact. Turrets are weak for one, it doesn’t really shift the flow of battle, as you already said, and it requires people to stand in very specific positions to pick up the items it drops, which miiight happen to be in the enemy team. Don’t use a weak class that we all know needs buffs to justify nerfing another ability. Use it to justify buffing that class.
Mesmer’s combat ability is largely based around a build that is countered by killing just one illusion out of the entire set. If you kill the Illusionary leap illusion, perhaps exploiting the fact it has no HP at all, and then dodgeroll backwards, the ENTIRE combo falls apart, as the mesmer has no way to pin you in place. This ability comes with a long tell and everything, plenty of time to set up an attack to kill the clone as it comes. Then you can simply dodge roll or kill the clones as they come for the shatter, and the mesmer is all out of burst.
Why on earth would ANYONE act like taking a single skill to counter another skill, that also has applications besides countering that skill, is a BAD thing? Counterplay is good. Counterplay is tactical. If you’re not going to bother to bring something to counter the enemy, then why do you expect to win?
“But it takes up a utility slot we could use for something else”. Timewarp takes up an elite slot that could be used for something else (Moa/Mass invis) too. One for one, and gives you the advantage.
I’d like to respectfully ask people to again read my above post. It’s kinda rude to not address any of it. I’ve been down this road before.
It is a nice idea and would give some gameplay options. But I would say mack roades give you a 10% movment speed boost when your on them. 33% would be a bit high.
It would give roads some reasone to be there. Becaus atm the only reason they are there is for the Dolyaks.
The idea i8s to make it 33% because that’s how much swiftness gives. It goes away the moment you enter battle. The core idea is to make off road mobility via swiftness buffs, signets, and other options more valuable, as the road often takes poor, sub-optimal paths, while still making people without speed boosts more able to join in on sieges. You can just as easily ditch someone by going off road if you have a speed boost. More people will be encouraged to take the road, making it easie to set up kill squads along the roads. And offroad mobility becomes a must of ambush squads as well.
Lol at the afraid mesmer players trying to defend this op kitten..Like having 210 sec cd is called balance..In a game that if you lose the team fight you get snowballed it doesn’t matter how much cooldowns a game changing skill has.Besides developing strategies to counter an op elite doesnt mean crap.I can develop strats that counter people trying to counter my time warp..Time wrap can be used for defence aswell like clutchy rezzes, stomps healing and also it can make other elites godly..
Its just too strong and completely in another league compared to any other elites.
Yes. We are afraid. Afraid that we’re going to get nerfed yet again becuase people would rather cry for nerfs and changes withought even bothering to counter anything. We’re afraid that like supports in League, Mesmers before a MASSIVE content addition in Guild Wars 1, and various other unusual classes in other games, we’re going to get nerfed to the ground over and over again by people who would rather see a class ruined than to go outside their confort zone.
I played a support in league. People kittened that we were picked for every single game ever. We got nerfed. And nerfed. And nerfed. And nerfed. And nerfed. People complained without thinking. We were picked because we didn’t need farm to contribute, so we could starve ourselves of gold to help the team unlike other character choices. We were nerfed into the ground for being selfless. We’re still used because we’re still the only character choices that do what we do. The nerfs didn’t fix that, they didn’t balance anything. They just pushed us further and further and further into the selfless martyr role, instead of giving us the ability to play on par with others. We still did what we always did, we just sucked more at everything but what they couldn’t flat out take. Sound familiar? (Portal)
I know people who played a mesmer in GW1. for a long while after release, people complained about the mesmer in GW1, because it played ouside of common rules, and shut people down. They didn’t take the time to find weaknesses for the mesmer, and as a result, mesmer was almost pointless in PvE, and not all that great in PvP. For a game with PvE centered around the capturing of skills for use in PvP, it was literally gamebreaking. Until ANet basically started ignoring the nerf mesmer croud, and buffed them and had to OVERHAUL PvE (hard mode), to make them viable and useful in PvP. They did something others couldn’t, and did things outside the norm, and for a good long while, the players who liked that suffered for it. Sound Familiar? (Clones/Phantasms)
Wanna know how you fix this stuff? You don’t blanket nerf until the class is crippled horribly, but still has the things that make it great (Portal). You don’t simplify the class by making many a mechanic meaningless fluff to make it easier to deal with. (Timewarp/Clones). You find real counters that work, and where they are lacking, you demand that they be added.
Mesmer solo PvE is already a pain in the neck. Mesmer PvP is already centered around a burst build that is not hard to counter if you know what it’s weaknesses are. We are quite frankly, all scared that we’re going to go down the same road as the above listed things. We are all scared of history repeating, and us suffering for it without adressing any of the problems, or making any new answers.
And you’re forcing it on us. Of course we’re going to call you out and get defensive. At least some of us have been down this road before. We know what’s waiting, and we’re not going to let you just force it on us.
Sorry for getting so confrontational, but it has to be said.
Agreed as well. The game is so much better when you stop focusing on “I need this epic loot” and instead just go and do what you like. For me, that’s hunting champions down and soloing them, or doing some WvW/Dungeons.
it needs to get to a point where its not just 1 build per class is the problem its fine for a spec to be strong just have another class /spec that counters it .
diversity is key, just like certain LoL chars can counter other chars easy
Exactly. And this is as much done by buffing as it is by nerfing. We have aloooot of underperforming skills across the various classes. Not underperforming in the meta, but underperforming, period.
At least some of them need to be brought in line.
As several classes in WvW have terrible movement speed relative to others, such as thieves, why not introduce an effect that boosts your speed if you are both out of combat, and on one of the roads, up to a cap of 33% increased speed counting other swiftness buffs such as, well, swiftness, or thief signet.
This enables people to get from point A to point B faster, while making people in a hury easier to predict. Off-road routes change from simply safer to slower and safer both. Small groups can easily just use a swiftness boon to remain just as mobile anywhere, while large groups are encouraged to use the roads.
Instead of calling for rampant nerfs to this skill, or that skill, why don’t we put our effort into something more constructive, like thinking of how to buff skills that nobody ever uses. Like Warrior Kick/transformation elite?
As it stands, there’s alot of utilities that could use some subtle tweaks, so why don’t we just list off the skills for our classes that we don’t use, or see, and ideas as to how to make them more viable.
Why is it that we have fully covering modest cloth gear, and stripper-tier cloth gear, but no puffy, cutesy cloth gear? We have a full range of pastel dyes, and nothing goes with the extremely inexpensive cloth dyes than gear with puffy shoulders and sleeves. Just make the shoulders a shoulderpad that wraps fully around the shoulder area.
Also, while we’re at it, petticoat slot. But yeah, that’s not happening ever sadly.
(Before it comes up, we’re talking for adult characters here.)
Because once people start thinking tactically and countering timewarp then people will also stop using timewarp and diversity will come as a result of player decisions…
Also by waiting for the game developers to give us DIVERSITY really shows a lack of adaptability… There is a saying Improvise, Adapt, Overcome…. It is applicable here people just have a sense of entitlement because they lost when the feel they shouldn’t have…
… this is hilariously hypocritical.
you’re essentially telling everyone else to L2P so you don’t have to. Everyone else needs to think creatively about THEIR tactics, THEIR ability to counter, THEIR ability to adapt, THEIR ability to diversify. All so you don’t have to figure out how to carry on with a toned down version of TW.
Hilarious.
Or perhaps he’s saying that instead of calling for rampant nerfs to everything one by one, lets not nerf everything. We’re seing literally NO effort by the “NErf timewarp” croud to come up with counters, while the pro timewarp croud is trying to give suggestions. Some such as light field area retaliation ACTUALLY WORK. But are completely ignored, because it’s non meta.
Oh, not to mention apparently bunker builds, which timewarp forces into a retreat, are perfectly fine and okay, dispite the fact that in standard pvp, people will often flat out ignore a bunker on a point (Been there, seen it way too many times) because they don’t want to deal with an unwinnable battle of attrition.
warrior axe chop can go about 2 – 3k per hit if you hit pure glass thief or ele…
problem with axe is that it isn’t mobile like the great sword and sword.I take that argument and raise you the fact that unlike 100b, chop combo can be done while moving. Oh, and throw axe slows, so you can cling.
Let alone Bull’s Charge, Signet of Rage, and it’s built in 2s stun if you offhand mace, that has range.
Telling you right now Axe/Mace isn’t “THAT” forgiving or rewarding. If you actually tried Axe/Mace against good players :x
100b is easy to avoid unless the enemy is pre-stunned/immob’d. Axe can pressure you with stronger attacks the entire time.
It’s not a retreating weapon. It’s an attacking weapon. You have to pick your battles more, but it is better in terms of damage.
Lets face it… in gw 2 spvp and tpvp how many times you get into a 1 v 1 confrontation?
you most likely get into team fight or 2 v 1 confrontation… in conquest game mode mobility is the key and axe doesn’t give any mobility at all.If this were a 3 v 3 team death match then i would go axe, but too bad it isn’t so hands down great sword is more viable simply because mobility.
oh not to mention even in team fight hammer is still better than both and again hammer lack the mobility we need. Because its a kitten conquest, we need to " move " to win.
I never mentioned 1v1ing. I mentioned that you’re mobile in combat with it, as opposed to greatsword, which though it has better gapclose, basically has to park itself to do real damage, while Axe clings and tracks. Mace offhand would give you a 2s stun as well, that happens to have range and AoE.
Ebon Vanguard Greatsword is almost completely consumed by the beam except for the handle, so I personally love it for my mesmer.
As other have said, the crap loot isn’t worth the thrill of victory.
And why not? It’s fun, and even pulling out a win is something you’re not supposed to be able to do (Doubly so on the ones who come with entire packs of adds guarding them). Imo, it’s better for one’s ego than the big shiny sword of I can put alot of time into this game +1 if you’re pulling off things balanced around entire groups on your own.
let me add that soloing champs is actually easier than with a group. if it’s a de, the scaling works out in your favor. not only this, but the less people there are, the less particle effects flying around, so you can actually be alerted to the champ’s tell before a big attack.
i’m sure if you’ve ever done a boss/champ with 5-15 people, it’s hard to see what is happening, especially if you’re melee.
Respawning adds, and the champ scaling doesn’t start until you have a few people I’ve found.
I deleted my post. Wrong subforum, meant to put it in the sPvP sub forum. I’d have locked the topic if I could.
I personally love soloing champions, be it on my mesmer or my warrior, and I’m really suprised I never even see people doing this. Sure, they have alot of health, but they really do make you work for it, as many of the good ones (champ ice troll in the norn 15-25 area is a good example at a low level) typically have you multitasking between them, the adds, and watching for their strongest attacks.
Really, why don’t people even try champions unless they have a full group of people there?

Dal, you do realise this entire discussion is MILES off of the initial thread topic, right?

I am intrigued by this constant use of the name “meta” as though it somehow elevates what is being spoken about (balance) away from what it really is. Balance isnt just about “class x is OP”, its also about the synergy between the dynamics of the gameplay. Factor in the resonant traits of the professions and the flavors and entwined aspects of the team make up lend to a complex and overlay confusing ideal for meta game arraignment.
Word salad is stupid and helps no one. LoL is a different game, all games have issues. This game also has issues, and they should be addressed.
But the problem is much more than which class is what, it goes to a much deeper issue. What is this game. It has no subs so we know how they are going to make money. Consider that, then also consider what aspects do you think are going to get the attention, and do you think PVP is likely to ever get a serious look into. I notice how ANet has all but stopped the “e-sports” talk now the game is out and the reviews and awards have been paid for.
Face the truth, we were sold a lie, a lie in which we should have known better and we will most likely fall for yet again. Now I am off to go buy War Z as that is going to be the next real e-sports!
I neve came here for the e-sports stuff. I’m simply saying that we have not had nearly enough time to know enough about what makes the game tick to determine the optimal way of playing just about anything.
Warrior Axe. No question.
Personally, I think Banner is MUCH stronger than Signet if you’re playing with a group. Mass rez. Mass stability. Mass attack buffs. All in one skill. You can literally turn a dungeon wipe on it’s head by just popping endure pain into battle standard.
