Lag Spikes / Increased Ping After the Patch

I’ve been having lag issues for about a month as well. Have a ticket in with arenanet I’ve not heard anything on.

Tried repair, firewall stuff, having ATT out to check connection, etc.

Based on a suggestion on reddit I tried a VPN connection tonight to avoid ATT’s pathing. On a guild TD run a few of my guildmates who have been having issues as well had the same lag spikes to 1k plus like usual and I never went above 70.

Only tried it one night but looking promising.

I think that if my modem allowed me to change DNS servers that might fix as well but I don’t have a spare router to test that theory.

In short, I think the the pipeline from some users to anet is hosed. If you can bypass by vpn or other means I think it might be the solution.

Going to test again tomorrow.

Asura Staff Animation Autochain

Love my rev, as I do my asura toons but the step 3 on the auto attack animation is just weird – flinging the staff out to an abrupt stop right front of the character. Easiest fix would be to use Asura thief’s 3rd auto attach chain anim in it’s place.

Bother anyone else?

On locked issue. I tried a hard computer restart and was able to get into the prologue mission. However, as soon as the escort started I started seeing major skill lag and then everythign went to black again. Game not locked, but all black. Hear music theme, which though nice isn’t the same as playing.

Please resolve asap.

Game crashed at Gather at the rally point leading into the Maguuma jungle. I cannot renter the prologue instance. I’m permastuck and can neither begin my masteries nor enter verdant brink. Please fix.

I have the same issue. Forced quit. When I hit play from the browser, go to black screen. Please help. Want to play:)

Asura animation tweak requests...

Most of my toons are Asura and I’d love for them to continue to be looking as awesome as always on the the new elite specs. These are looks only comments. For the most part, they look fantastic. Especially love the reaper shroud stuff. Couple of suggestions:

Rev, hammer 1 — I know the arms are too short to do the wrap around swing like the other races but it looks off to me. Maybe lean the body around with the swing. Maybe just one arm is going on that arc and reconnects when it comes back down to release. General timing of the swing feels good. Just some of the inbetweens:)

Rev, staff 1 — fling staff out hit. Looks a little off. Loving the idea of melee staff, just doesn’t flow as well as some of the other races. They have longer arms so they can do the above the head thing easier but if you could find a pose for the asura that would flow in that chain better, it would be appreciated. It actually looks like with a little lean and making sure the arm is in front of the ears it would work.

Rev, staff 2 – would be nice to have a more sweeping animation than the old big hammer swing.

Nec, gs 2 — the wind up animation feels off. Floaty. Needs more umph. Finishes the wind up too soon. Maybe just retiming the peak of the float to just before the swing would fix it. Just feels off.

In general, Asura have always had amazing animations and love seeing them move around. Just wanna keep that going. Thanks for the amazing game, HOT is shaping up really well:)

Teq jump pads bugged after latest patch...

First phase fine. To the jump pads and almost everyone dies on landing. Multiple times. Some issues with the timers as well. Please fix. Long events failing because of system issues are no fun.

RNG rewards - what's the solution?

Options
1) Make tickets tradable
2) Make a event path to get a single ticket – i.e. complete x achievements
3) Sell a pile of rich coffers that includes a ticket (i.e. 10 Rich coffers gets a ticket an the very rare chance for more)
4) Follow the path from the Super Adventure Box – bound skins have a path to get them. Like 1000 candies or whatever
5) Sell tickets outright for 800-1000gems (like Bromm and Rox skins)
6) Mystic recipe – 3 knights and a stack of candy or something
7) If you want lucky ‘prestige’ skins, make a different ticket type for those that has a different color scheme on the same objects) – maybe the gold is silver or vice versa

1) For those that got their lucky tickets, that’s great. The attitude of “I got mine, working as intended” is not a great attitude to encourage in a player base.
2)Even should the price fall to <1’s a pop, how is clicking an inventory item 1000+ times good game design?
3) Prestige from chance is not fun. Giving players alternate methods to rng of acquiring content does not diminish the luck value of another path.
4) One player playing the rng game 1000+ times to no avail while another player gets the desired reward on their first go isn’t fun.
5) Yes it’s been out less a day, what an unpleasant experience it has been for many of your player base.

As a player who bought GW1 because they were excited about GW2, played the beta, got friends to buy it, bought a copy for a relative and has spent money in the gem shop on items I wanted (not a chance at an item I want), I’d love to continue supporting a game who’s art I find to be the best out there currently.

I hope ANET meaningfully addresses the rng frustration. If not I’m sure they’ll have plenty of players who like a company to let them buy non-power items they want and not play slots if they choose not to.

Lots of options on the horizon.

…. I don’t know… maybe because it is the currency for the game? I don’t have much gold myself, nor do I have a legendary, tier 3 armor skins, or a commander tag, but asking for handouts because your too lazy to farm for it is stupid.

They have set a standard of providing rewards for completing achievements (fused gloves, wings, southsun back, etc). Asking for an option isn’t a handout, it’s asking for an option.

Being lazy is not the only reason someone might not want to spend their game time farming.

It’s a more sensible path to acquiring items then random chance. It encourages the player to spend time completing the content anet spent money producing.

What we currently have is Player A spends y gems/time and gets a ticket. Player B spends more gems/time or equal time and does not. Player B doesn’t see a return on their game game resources, Player A does. No skill is involved, no completion of content required. These aren’t trophies of defeating some epic encounter. Just rolling dice.

Providing more paths to acquire a skin isn’t diminishing the accomplishment of anyone else.

Why would I want to spend my gaming time farming gold?

There seems to be a portion of the community that have piles of gold. Most of my friends who play have <30g. If you’re a casual player who wants to say get the tier 3 race armor, that’s a sizable gold sink right there. I’ve been playing since beta and still don’t have a full set.

Maybe anet sees these rng boxes as a gold sink as well to pull some gold out of the economy. As a ‘lower middle class’ in game player, I would just like the opportunity to invest what little gold I have in what I want, not a small chance at what I want.

Some suggestions:
1) Make a single ticket a reward for completing most of the content achievements. The wings are nice, I imagine a lot of folks would prefer a ticket. That way your players have an inclination to complete the content you made and not farm or play virtual roulette
2) Same thing for a specific event like your fireworks show(again, a helm set it nice but maybe give us the option)
3) Gem store ticket purchase, make it the same price as the flame and frost skins. It’s more expensive than a box. If someone wants to gamble on a chance for a cheaper ticket, by all means. But give your players who refuse to play your gamble game a way to get the skins they want.

I bought 3 flame and frost skins with cash and have bought other things with cash because I wanted to support your game. I’m unwilling to play your rng game. I imagine every update, there’s a portion of your players that would love to buy a skin. Why is letting them such a crazy business proposal?

I see the flame and frost skins all over. I personally bought 3 happily because I liked them. Obviously that was a successful way to do things. There are many of these jade skins I would do the same for. The way that many read the initial release info led some to believe that the rich coffer would always have a ticket. The increased price would justify that.

In the end, this is a armor/weapons skins game since hitting the power level cap isn’t an issue. What is the point of making great looking skins your player base wants and then putting them behind a random chance pay wall (again). It makes no sense and only reinforces the notion you’re not listening to your player base.

I really just don’t get sticking your finger in the eyes of your player base.

Giving up on Personal Story...any impact?

Of a warrior,guardian, ranger and elementalist, elementalist has hands down been the hardest profession to play in story mode. As Ghostwind said, there is a very long thread on the matter.

If that’s the mission where you go in the dream state in Orr, it was crazy hard on my ele and I died many times. If you can’t manage it on your own, friends are probably the easiest answer till they get balance sorted.

Put a longer post in this forum last week. In the main I agree. Three main points:
1)Those that feel balance is fine probably play an easier profession. Just an observation.
2) The difference between my warrior/guardian/ranger and my elementalist on personal story missions is a night and day. Geared relatively balanced regardless of mission, my elementalist will die much more
3) The personal story missions with gimmick mechanics are a problem. If you give a player a gimmick device to use for a mission it can be fun IF that gimmick makes the player feel more powerful than they usually do. As an example, there’s no reason getting a fire golem suit that my cohort tells me is specifically for fire in the volcano mission on the priory line should lose half it’s health from a flame wave while trying to dodge the multiple lava grub spawns and a suit that ‘misses’ the thing in front me half the time. It’s a personal story mission, it doesn’t affect balance out in the rest of PVE. If you make us use something it shouldn’t feel like a chore. That feels like bad design.
3) Downleveling is a great idea most of the time. However, if feels off when a player is downleveled many levels below mobs just hanging out in a zone (not bosses or champions). I was running through the charr 50ish zone last night to get to a personal story point on my 65 guardian and had to go well around an area where the mobs were 59 and I was being downleveled to 51. It really seemed odd.

Overall, love the game. Just that it shouldn’t feel like a struggle to enjoy my profession of choice on personal story.

Personal story as a Elementalist vs Guardian...

My guardian and elementalist are within 10 levels of each other as I like them both. However when it comes to personal story, the difference is painful.

On my guardian I’ve taken personal story missions that are 2-3 levels above me with no problem at all. On my elementalist, I almost always outlevel them now because of aggravation early on in the game dying so much. Often, it still doesn’t help that much because I’m downleveled to the mission level.

Today for example, on the priory line around level 68 mission I’m supposed to go escort a guy to blow up a ship. Moving along okay and a shark comes up and begins a not so fun instakill session whereby the zombie shark kills me as soon as my dodges and cc’s are on cool down.

Or the one before that with power suits in the volcano where there are so many grubs and fire waves flying and a kittened suit that can’t hit the beam in front of me half the time, It takes at least one death per beam to kill it. I’m guessing this one has something to do with the low base health of an ele and how it scales to the suit but it’s so very frustrating.

I’m sorry but there needs to be more balancing done. A player shouldn’t cakewalk a personal story on half the classes and be in imminent danger all the time on one or two. I have no issues on any other class I’ve played a chunk of story on (guardian, mesmer, warrior, ranger). The missions that are most painful are usually ones where I don’t have access to normal tools – underwater I lose most of my utilities and lack my normal mobility or in one of the gimmicky use-this-weapon-or-suit missions. Which would be fun were it not for feeling like I’m hamstrung by the gimmick. If you’re gonna give a player a fire suit in a volcano, getting hit with a fireball shouldn’t take more than half my life away.

Apologies for the long post, I love the game but it’s times when my elementalist cannot survive a story mission without a crazy repair bill that make it not as enjoyable as it could be.

Have you tried changing the render mode? I was having that issue on one mode but when I went to supersampling one its been great since (and looks better)

Some great ideas here. Couple more…

Otter – amph
Fox – terr – could probably just take the fern hound animations and give it a new and smaller mesh on that skeleton.

The spirits look like dolphins (and cool at that) in the water so they’d just need an ability and a new skin.
