well i am on crystal desert. We were tier 4 server and face sos and SBL. We have 1 commander who is literally carrying the entire server in war score.
BUt yea the last few fights over the weekend was a zerg of 50 light armor classes most condi. They are not too hard to kill but even with our revs and durability runes we still get owned.
I don’t know how we are winning i don’t know how warscore works. We try to hold SMC and tier that and everything to tier 3 with yaks and we do gorilla warfare.
We are a very high server facing 2 full servers.
I play a guardian and they tend to spam us with immobalizes chill posion bleeds torments fears weakness vulnerability and lots of aoe (possible power aoes from elementals )
i never see warriors ….and i saw a few rangers and reves today, but a lot of reapers chronomancers and eles … and thiefs are everywhere too scouting roaming and ganking.
BUt i also think that the enemies have specific comps. W/e
I’ve still yet to see a pro-condi argument that makes sense as to why Dire gear should continue to surpass Soldier’s gear in effectiveness tenfold – when they have the exact same amount of added defensive stats.
I used ranger shortbow autoattack + poison volley against the 1 million hp golem (25 might, fury, quickness as I did not want to spend too much time at the golem) and soldier gear actually slightly outperformed dire gear.
No damage modifiers or condition duration were used. Pet was on passive. Fury favors soldiers but it is very easy to obtain on most power builds so I think that is realistic. I was position behind the golem to get the increased condition duration on poison valley and the additional bleeding on the auto attack.
might fury quickness are all power damage modifiers and short bow uses some condition and some power damage.
Also positioning behind the golem for condition damage modifier and bleeding.
Generally condition does more damage than power but different weapons have different scaling.
An example is engineer hammer and rifle. It scales awful with power but scales good with condition. Also i am not familiar with ranger but i thought long bow is power and short bow is condition ?
right now my server is passing to tier 2 and all we face is condi zergs.
i tried soldiers and sentinel armor. You do no damage as a power spec even though you are pretty tanky.
You need the crit chance and crit modifier to be very deadly damage dealer but then you also need defensive traits and skills to not die.
Condition is very good damage because it’s spammable on certain classes and it only needs 1 stat to be damage effective (you can use expertise but not really needed) and then you can stack defense stats traits skills and food utility.
People are just following a meta of what’s strongest to win. That is normal every day min maxing.
well it’s not condis killing me. I died to 50 players auto attacking me 1 and i take too much damage even while invulnerable to physical. I think it’s lag or something.
Same with guardians ultimate skill. I use it and i still get killed.
There are times when i pop elixir s and i straight die, no down or anything. Seems pretty buggy i think.
Hey guys, i wanted to say that i been playing wvw with my engineer and my elixir s rarely works.
Same with my guard’s 0 skill – that ultimate with makes you invulnerable for 3 seconds and refreshes virtues.
Basically i pop an invulnerability and people do so much massive damage i go on down state about 50% or i just die.
Seems invulnerabilities are bugged.
scouts havoc groups and a main zerg are all important.
Also if you are scouting or defending – ask your commander for participation buff.
i am from crystal desert and this is my experience. SO small scale fights are not that bad. Roaming and zergs that are 20 or less don’t put much condi pressure.
Yea i take condi damage from a 20 man zerg but it’s tankable and fine.
However when you face 40 or 50 man zergs that spam condi on you, you take a TON of damage, like 8 condis with 10-15 stacks each.
Even with condition cleanses and resistance, they can spam it on you. ON our server they use elementals and necros to create bombs. I don’t know the details on how they do it, but it hurts.
Also power is not very good. Power is decent on guard and warrior only because you have stances aegis and stab. So you can build glass cannon and survive for a bit.
But you need power precision and ferocity.,
On my engineer i get dire and trailblazer and i can roam and do pretty good.
Power is weak condi is stronger.
and necros even with nerfed shroud are still tanky because trailblazer gives toughness vitality and condi damage and expertise.
My opinion of nerfing condi is to reduce it’s damage by 60% and let condi be cable of critting with precision and do more damage with ferocity.
Would make balancing damage much simpler and you can create more hybrid stat builds like – condi precision toughness vitality or condi ferocity toughness vitality – or condi power precision ferocity or condi power toughness vitality.
This would be a pretty useful change i think and would open more builds for all classes.
HERE IS THE SECRET – if you played in 2012 or 2013 (people in vanilla guild wars) they would use their luarals to buy kegs of wvw exp and get 1000s of ranks over a few days.
Anet removed the kegs of wvw exp so the veterans got to keep their ranks, but newer players have to grind the exp.
This is a fact, and not to many people know about this.
Lately i been seeing more and more light armor professions everywhere. My server is a tier 4 server fighting a tier 3 and tier 2.
It seems that those servers are stacking necros eles and mesmers and not using guards warriors reves engies rangers or thiefs.
The only time i see a thief is for scouting.
I don’t know how it is for tier 1 servers or tier 5 and lower, but so far we are losing because everybody in the current wvw i am in are using light armor professions.
Maybe i am just a noob but light armor professions have alot of condi and boons. They also have range combat and melee combat.
Does anyone else think light armor professions are too strong in wvw ?
I play guard on crystal desert and i am happy with the staff change
Commanders use staff for empower speed and walls.
I use 2 handed war hammer and mace shield with either celestial armor or sentinel armor
I work for my bags by charging in with my commander melee cleaving and proving stab / aegis
I know staff was a loot stick but i dont need loot i buy gems and gold and i play to win.
Glad staff was nerfed. If you need a range weapon you can be a dragon hunter and use bow while still providing buffs
So people who use staff loot stick dont really contribute to the zergs. I rather have a necro condi bomb or ele healer than a useless guard.
Hello all. Lately i have been encounter a bug in wvw.
So i have a scrapper engineer who uses elixir S and a guardian who uses renewed focus in wvw.
For some reason whenever i pop elixir s or renewed focus – i take so much damage i instantly die.
The invulnerable buffs don’t work, and i don’t even get a down state. At a fresh down (no down penalties) i instantly die.
I think the bugg has to do with massive damage or lag.
I know condis can effect me in elixir s but not renewed focus. BUt they are supposed to make me immortal for 3 seconds. The bug is that the invulnerable doesn’t work or block any damage.
An example is a thief. When i roam and get to 25% health, they perform their burst and pop alchemy defense elixir s at 25% in 1 second and i sometimes (like 50%) get a down or sometimes i die instantly.
Now with zergs i take so much damage that even when i pop it i just die in .5 seconds. No invul no block no fall state – just dead.
If you can please look into this that would be great.
I am not asking for guard or engie buffs, i just wish they would work when i need them too. I also wish i wouldn’t go from 100% to dead in 1 second with out a fall state or with out a bit of evade or immunity. Thanks.
i tested it. Seems to be only people with out the heart of thorns or path of fire upgrades.
Can anyone on a free to play account or a original vanilla game confirm this ?
I have heart of thorns and pre ordered path of fire, and it loads fine for me, but not my guild mates, whom all have free edition.
Also it started with this big patch that updated all the professions and gave the wvw legendary gear.
My guild mates have said that when their norns use the hoelbrak home instance it loads up the black citadel home instance. Happen today 8/9/2017 at 11:22 pm central USA.
Anybody else seen this bug ?
Here is my best opinion about roaming
My heart says roaming is bullying. But my mind sees roaming as a strategically advantageous thing to do.
Roaming is both depending on whether you think logically or emotionally
I don’t roam because my class is to weak. I have an engineer and he cant beat anybody 1v1. Usually i see thiefs necromancers and mesmers roaming
I have a guardian whom i use in a zerg. Free gear free points free loot.
Roaming is good and fun. It is healthy gameplay. Wvw is contested territory so if you don’t like it its best to hide behind walls.
Roaming allows stealth traps morter kits seige supply starving posion cows and attrition to be viable strategies that you cannot do in spvp
Thiefs make great havoc roamers and scouts. Gives fresh viability to the class.
As much as i want to call it bullying i know that i can stop my whining and anger by leaving wvw
Any ways please buff engineers so my engineer can be a viable roamet and scout. Ty.
every profession gets power creep but engineer doesn’t get good power creep every expansion.
Also holosmith looks to be a solo duelist with no support for groups in pvp pve raids fractals or wvw zergs.
Engineer is ….weird…. It has skills that could be so useful to parties.
The only skills i ever use in parties are stealth gyro and elixir s (stealth toolbelt spell) and that ’s it.
Engineer has decent party stealth and maybe their healing turret can be useful for aoe cleansing and healing 5 people.
But everything else is not very good.
Engineer feels like a dps spec that is design for selfishness and roaming or small parties.
For small parties they can bring some utility but i think damage is all they have.
BUT YEA their traits are very horrible, not very good power creep
i won’t lie, i want engineer to get power creep. I want to be OP for 1 expansion so i can feel useful in game modes haha.
The problem is engineer gets nerfed a lot and it’s profession direction seems to be very strange.
Scrapper is like a tank enahncement guy, condition is all damage, power is all damage, inventions is a defense selfish trait NOT a healer line. Alchemy is selfish defensive trait for self protective boons NOT a support line for allies, and scrapper has mostly dps and defense selfish traits with the exception of super speeds,
Fireaarms is so reliant on crit and conditions i guess it’s ok but very niche. Explosives is only useful if you have explosion skills. Tools is actually pretty good i like tools.
Tools can be everything. offense, defense, utility, and selfish buffs. BUt tools is taking primarily for swiftness or damage and endurance regen.
I guess min max and meta makes engineer kind of clunky. We are not very fun to min max and find a meta build for but it’s probably because are utility skills just suck so much (not kits though, but kits offer more complex damage rotations) But engineer is pretty clunky overall in design.
Hi guys sorry i post on the forums a lot. I really love the engineer class and i want to see it get better.
I was doing some tests with bomb kit auto (1) and the hammer skills and rifle skills.
I was using berserker gear for massive power damage. I don’t know if i am a complete noob, but it seems power doesn’t really give us major damage.
I went from 2000 power to 2500 power and my bomb auto went from 887 to 1200 damage.
That’s not good…… even with out berserker armor at level 80 my bomb autos were doing 887 damage (on the tooltip it says that)
I tried asssassin armor and got to 80.5% crit and 215% critical damage, and i felt like i was doing more dps with my bomb auto (sitting at 900 damage)
The thing is …why should we go mauraders and berserker and soldiers if the hammer skills bomb kit skills and grenades skills get poor scaling ?
Rifle gets poor scaling too.
On my condition build engineer i can get over 30k damage in 14 seconds with 1 blast of blow torch.
Hammer feels awkward as hell. I am using ascended sentinel armor (50% power 50% toughness 100% vitality)
And my hammer does good damage.
I don’t rally know math theory very well but i am “assuming” engineer power skills have high base damage and low power scaling.
But even with some power – the damage seems to improve a bit but it’s not “glass cannon” when other dps out dps me.
I haven’t checked out other classes’s scaling but it seems engineer power skills have poor scaling.
My hammer auto is always around 600-900 damage on the first 2 auto chains and 900-1200 on the last 3rd final hit chain. It seems power stacking is not that good.
I am not trying to say engineer should stack defensive stats, but what i am trying to say is, for pvp any ways , engineers seem to do okish damage but to get burst damage it really depends on crits really NOT power damage.
I think even with 25 stacks of might and 3000 power are damage wouldn’t be as high as a thief or a warrior.
I been looking at my skill tool tips and they don’t even go up by 50% with berserker gear. It’s more like 15%-20% bonus damage at max with berserker gear.
You could stack soldiers or sentinel or any 50% power and you still be ok on damage.
The burst from my scrapper engineer always came from critical hits. I am not saying to stack assassin armor. I am just say …maybe power scaling is poor ?
Any ways berserker armor does not feel fun in pvp or pve. I can dodge and avoid mechanics but i don’t feel like a top damage dps.
I think power bomber is good (thanks wooden potato) but only because it is simple and the bomb auto has the highest base damage of any auto (bomb 1 does more than hammer swing but both hit up to 5 targets)
Any ways i think engineers have terrible power scaling / coefficients on their power abilities.
Even flamethrower 1 feels like a mix of 1800-2400 power damage based on gear.
I feel like i do more damage with assassins because of the crits and high base values (bomb 1 can start at around 600 damage + power scaling) but with 50% power it sits at around 900 or 1200 with berserker 100% power…..but i crit more often with assassins and constantly get better damage.
I have no math to back this up, it’s just my playing experience.
Also in pvp i use sentinel armor (in wvw) and i out tank all power builds and still do moderate damage to down classes with out condis. (condis still do a lot of damage) but i am only sitting at 2400 power with everything (runes sigils food sharpening stone full sentinel armor) and still bringing down people.
I know i am a NOOB haha but maybe we should get someone to investigate the scaling of power abilities on engineer.
if bomb auto went from 600-1800 damage or higher, i could see berserker armor being better.
My thunder clap is always around 5×3444 to 5×5444 damage depending on my power (none or full zerkers)
That is terrible.
with zerkers i get a slight damage boost but i instantly lose ALL my survivability.
I think assassins would do slightly more dps because you only get half the power but more chances to crit for double damage.
And in pvp i been thinking that, condi meta can only be countered by stacking health (and cleanses) while having a moderate amount of power and using hammer for it’s high base values + poor scaling.
But that’s just my opinion. I hope people look into this. I feel engineer does the worst possible power damage because engineer scales so poorly from the power stat.
well the only good news i have is i am starting to live and do decent damage once i reroll my ascended gear to sentinel. I have 31k health and 2500 power (with suffron bread and superior sharpening stone)
i bought the sentinel insignias and orcachalcums and i am doing slightly better.
I still suck at frontline charging in zergs because i have low stability, i need a guardian in my party to hump me.
Now for roaming i do fairly decent.
I am still trying to find good wvw builds but sentinel armor is helping despite the abundent of thiefs and necromancers.
I am on crystal desert and we are 4th place now i think ? not sure.
Any ways right now i am using sentinel armor. I also use sentinal hammer and sentinal trinkets.
I use alchemy scrapper and inventions.
I also use force sigil and sigil of intelligence.
Lastly i am not sure what runes to use, but right now i use melandru for the condition reduction.
The reason i am using sentinel is my hammer seems to be scaling at like 20% of power.
So between berserker armor and sentinel armor, i lose like 650 power but i only lose like 300 damage on my hammer skills. Yes i could crit and do critical damage but i trade those for intense tankiness. Also my hammer skills do decent burst even with lack of power.
I get most of my power from superior sharpening stones.
Sorry i am ranting, but this is the only build i find right now that helps me stay alive against the meta. It’s not a good build but it works for me.
So…i am sorry for my stupidity and my lack of skill.
My server went up a rank and now i am useless.
My engineer cant win 1v1s versus anyone. Condition power hammer rifle pistol.
Even in parties i do the least amount of damage and take more damage than other classes.
I realize engineer is garbage in pvp. No matter what gear set i use and how fights start i can never win out of skill.
The only times i win is by numbers or by staying close to others.
Now that my server is higher rank i see roamers and people who destroy me.
I have hot keys and i try to outplay. But engineer is so useless. They are only useful as something for someone to focus on while everybody else does the real damage.
I cant outplay people in 1v1 and i bring nothing useful to groups or zergs. By bulworm gyro doesn’t reduce damage enough and my runes of durability do nothing
I tried scrapper maurader soldiers sentinal armor and i mix them up and i still explode.
My condition 1 shot build doesn’t work 1v1 anymore.
I feel like i got cursed. I was doing fine but now my class as a whole is useless in my favorite area of the game – wvw
I don’t mean to be a drama queen but engineer cant do anything in wvw. I see now why people are upset. Engineer is weak in wvw
I have ascended armor and still explode and dont do any damage. Wow.
here is how i observed it. This is my opinion so i am probably wrong but.
You have your 0 skill or ultimate skill (which is mortar kit elixir x supply drop)
and you switch that to photon forge.
Photon forge shouldn’t have a coldown or cast time. It’s supposedly like a kit or elemental attunement.
I think while you are in photon forge stance, you passively generate heat per second, and your f1 f2 f3 f4 skills are photon forge skills. These skills do great damage and stack even more heat on top of that. SO YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO HEAT basically if you hit 100 heat, you take a fatel dot / condition which quickly eats your health (at least i think it does) not so much an explosion but i could be wrong….
but you’re supposed to drop out of skill 0 (photon forge) photon forge kit (easy to understand) so you stop generating heat. And then if you are at a high heat when you’re outside photon force kit stance…..your sword abilities and utility skills (6 7 8 9 ) get bonus effects.
that’s how i think of this mechanic. I could easily be wrong and stupid, but i hope i provided a basic idea.
Oh and when you’re in photo forge kit stance thingy i believe you cant use 1-9 skills only use f1-f4 skills.
So that’s what i think.
i don’t know what guild versus guilds you’re talking about, but in wvw i have always seen people stack elementalists for water fields, revenants for tablet healing, necros for corruption bombs, and guardians for aegis and stab.
These are zerg versus zerg fights. Now naturally guild versus guilds might be different, i don’t know.
But i know engineers are not very great for wvw or team pvp in general.
Engineers are just not meta, and they seem to be (well anet does it) anet seems to make holosmith similar to scrapper – PvP spec.
I don’t know how a holosmith will be top dps in raids. They might, if their scaling is good with power and condition.
In wvw holosmith brings absolutely nothing but in roaming and spvp they are quite good (holo smith is good) for this gameplay content.
I know you probably think i am dumb. I have played engineer and i made it my first 80. I had to get a guardian to 80 to do wvw with my guild.
Engineer is not a very popular class in guild wars 2 nor is it a meta class,
The thing is, people want buffs for engineer but they always want more damage or more convenience or more strong stuff.
The reason they cant buff engineer is because engineer would be the best roamer and duelist in the game if their rifle was stronger or their hammer was better, or their shield was better.
If engineer wants buffs, they first need to redesign the role from a “solo casual single player profession” to a more serious “team orient profession” and i believe anet doesn’t want to do that or have no interest in that.
I looked at the holosmith skills and traits.
Very good damage and self utility and self defense skills, but that’s about it.
Holosmith feels like the "scrapper " syndrome all over again.
THIEF is going the same route as engineer. a scout ganker. Engineer is becoming a roamer like thief but with more focus defensive tactics (water fields, healing, turrets, cc, boons, some toughness and some damage)
Thief is all damage. They are gankers and assassins.
ranger is also going the same route. Roamer ganker scout. HELL MEDIUM ARMOR PROFESSIONS ARE THE LONELY GANKERS… lol seriously.
Warrior guardian revenant elementalist necromancer mesmer are all being given support group stuff on top of their damage.
But ranger engineer and thief are very much the lonely solo players in pvp. Druid comes close, but reve tablat healer is better for group support.
any ways this is my opinion. I only go based on observation in the game.
I played a few wvw games and i see what the meta is. Nobody really likes rangers or engineers in thier zerg, and thiefs make good spotters / scouts.
engineer is fine. Engineer is a solo class. They are not design to support anybody, but instead use their "jack of all trades " to selfishly win duels and roams.
Holosmith is another “scrapper” don’t expect to be invited to wvw zergs or raids. Just do spvp and roaming as holosmith and that’s all you can really do.
Anet seems to focus engineer on being two things – 1. a pvp duelist 2. a casual single player easy to learn easy to play class.
I do admit, i used to try and make engineer viable in wvw as part of a team or part of a group. I wasted hundreds of gold (with gem converting) to make armors to try builds to be a support or a gimmick healer, boon spammer, resser, but all those concepts failed miserably.
Engineer is a lonely single player spec. You basically play it to play by your self in group content and you play with the intent of “not ever being supportive to your allies”.
Healing turret and gyros and stealth do help others somewhat i agree. But it’s mostly 5 man parties or fractals. In zergs and raids, why would you take an engineer when you can take a a guardian or an elementalist or a mesmer ?
also warriors do better cleave then a scrapper does, has immunity stances, and great stability and also has good frontal force presence ?
Nercromancer is a key artillery in wvw for corruption and condition spamming in this meta.
For raids engineers can be top dps as condition, but they have a very high skill cap ceiling and UNLESS the engineer both knows how to play his rotation and knows the fight mechanics, he is a wasted slot.
Fractals are good where engineers can really shine, if your party is open minded. They can bring stealth, gyro rez, aoe burst healing with healing turret, and strong cleave damage.
At the end of the day, engineer seems to be heading in the direction of “noob friendly” class.
They are a great starting character, but a horrible main for social group content. They also do some efficient solo pvp but can be outclassed by thiefs and necromancers (who are highly overtuned) as well if you’re under geared or counter built (like being a class cannon and getting ambushed by a roamer)
engineer does need help but….first it needs a new direction. If engineer is too become a more stronger class, it needs to change it’s role from “solo” to something more. Ranger is also facing this same issue but ranger is stronger in some builds as a roamer than engineer.
if you 1v1 most classes…. they usually don’t have stability or resistance or aegis or more than 1 healing per 15 seconds.
People who claim they get countered by these things are probably playing in groups where boon access is more frequent in parties and defensive boons really screw up engineer’s ability to do anything (defense boons like stability aegis and resistance)
also if engineer gets pressured from more then 2 people with conditions or damage, they almost instantly die. (where other classes can survive for a little while)
engineer is just not team friendly it seems. I mean they can ’TRY" to be team friendly, but their skills are not good enough to be empowering or game changing. Instead, they use their skills to support themselves in pvp.
any ways i started a guardian and guardian has great boons for team play. mesmer is another class i play. Good for portals and alacrity.
Don’t feel bad, engineer is still alright a little bit. FIRST lets see what the next patch does to our traits and skills, and go from there. Scrapper is supposed to be viable in HOT as a damage tank spec for pve. Hopefully they remake all the engineer traits, it would bring fresh theory crafting and change of builds and pace.
BASICALLY (in world of warcraft ) every expansion they redesign the entire talent system and class skills. A huge revamp. At the beginning of heart of thorns they redesigned the traits and skills for all the professions.
New expansion means, a new major balance patch and i hope they scramble our traits up so we get new fresh traits and new fresh theory meta crafting.

Engineer is not a bad class. It has good skills for when you 1v1 or do duels. It can destroy most classes 1v1.
For pve engineer is mostly sustain dps and does a high amount of damage.
The reason i said engineer is selfish and a solo class is because i do wvw pvp.
I think that …well…. engineer is great for solo or 1v1 but…if you read the other classes traits and skill builds and see their abilities…. they have good stuff too.
Anet doesn’t seem interested in giving engineers buffs to become a stronger 1v1 duelist OR group utility for a role to be unique in zergs or raid groups.
Engineer is not bad, it’s not a weak class. It’s just a very “solo” profession it seems these days.

but yea… engineer could be buffed to be a powerful support character, but i think anet gives engineers the tools to solo 1v1 any class WITHOUT being over powered in their versatility.
You know what i am saying ? Engineers have strong heals for themselves, stability for themselves, cc and damage, and they have some stealth, and they also have stun breakers and fields.
But that’s all for them to solo 1v1 pvp. It’s not “good” for group play. I think elemental has better water fields than engineer. Everybody has better skills than engineer but engineer has all the skills for themselves to solo 1v1 pvp.
Any ways that’s my opinion on this. I am not saying engineers suck, i am saying they are not heading in the direction of a support character, but rather, a pvp duelists.
Well the problem with me, or my experience is, well… most wvw guilds don’t want an engineer in their groups.
I tried to join a wvw guild a long time ago and i had to reroll into a guard and mesmer.
I do like support groups but gyros are useful only for small parties where your gyros can protect other party members.
Your right i don’t have enough experience to make these judgement. I am on a new account so i only have a few weeks played (because i bought a new account for the boost). I know that i wanted to main an engineer for pvp…but for social pvp (group pvp) i cant find anything or any role.
I know that engineer is good with blow torch and incendiary ammo to be a (1 shot assassin) and scrapper is good for melee burst and gyro or elixir support.
Sorry i am ranting. I just wanted to share my own views and experiences.
I find engineer could be a useful support character if they did indeed buff medical kit and make mortar kit more strong as a long range siege weapon.
I also think that engineer is harder to apply boons with tool belt elixirs than a guardian staff.
I know i know…i hate the meta too. But it’s adapt or die. I play engineer when i want to be alone and solo wvw or solo spvp or farm something.
But for group content…engineer is TERRIBLE. Very selfish class.
But again that’s only my opinion and experience. As soon as i saw guardian staff / mace shield / traits and saw all that action going on, i switched to guardian to do group pvp.
Holo smith looks like it will be another solo pvp spec just like scrapper. What does the heat mechanic actually bring for the group ? Damage ? utility ? boons ? healing ? Condition spam ?
Holo smith (aND engineer in general ) feels like a good single player class. Not good if you’re trying to get any wvw group or raid or fractal action going.
I know they have power bomber and conditions. But there is a lot of other equally competitive dps with more safer rotations and extra utility.
Sorry i am still ranting, i just think in my opinion engineer is going towards a solo profession who does things by himself. At least i think anet is making engineer direction that way too.
I really hope i am wrong and holo smith is a great support character. I really do.

I am an engie guardian mesmer main. I saw the new holosmith and i played a scrapper and a condition burn assassin engie.
My opinion i come up with after talking with my wvw guild is that engineer is only good for 1v1 and roaming.
Engineer cant heal. Cant boon spam. Cant bring ultility to zergs. Cant offer good damage range support or melee support for wvw comps.
Engie is only good for spvp and duels and 1v1 and roaming
Scrapper is good for 5 man parties and that’s it.
MY QUESTION NOW IS….
Do you like this role as engineer and do you like where anet is taking the direction of the class ?
My view is i love being a 1v1 solo machine in pvp but i also love group pvp.
Engineer is fine. Most of their (builds) are not meta but engineers are very very powerful in pvp.
In pve we have condition spam with nadea bombs flame thrower and pistols.
I usually use just pistols and nades and thorns runes to do strong poisons dps. I feel poisons is most of my dps from nades and poison darts. I don’t do top dps but in fractals i do fine. In raids i think engineers rotation and skill cap is too huge.
In pvp OMG i have so many fun kittened builds. Tool kit spells are so strong they are flying under the radar as OP
Scrapper is fine. Support charater not a carry solo character. Good damage good boons water fields. Not meta but still good
Engineers take a of thoery crafting and trial and error. I have 3 sets of armor i am working on. A support heals and a scrapper and a condition assassin. I also have a bleed 1 shot rifle build. And for conquest i use a static discharge cc spamming paladin rifle tool engineer.
Really engineer is secretly strong just people don’t know how to build them and play them properly.
I know that i can barely beat necros and theifs because they are tuned too high but everything else is easy.
Here is my opinion on scrapper.
Scrapper is a support dps build. You use runes of darability (or pack) and healing turret as well as toss elixir B for 3 stacks of stability to empower your allies and do burst physical damage.
Scrapper is not a berserker warrior. They cannot carry. Scrapper has function gyro to rez an ally or do a ranged stomp
Scrapper is fine. They are not a solo roamer instead they are enhancements hammer power dps
They provide good boons and friendly healing water field burst and decent power burst damage.
Scrapper mindset is for guardians or support characters.
If you want to carry make a stealth condition blow torch incendiary ammo ambush engineer. Those guys can get close – pop toss elixir s and prep ammo with blow torch and use static shock ( aed healing tool belt skill) and 1 shot a person. Can use tools coldown traits to get 6 stacks of burn on double ammo prepped within 45 seconds and static shock stun so they dont cleanse.
