You can add the audio bug with fire elementals to the list under Audio.

You know the sound of someone smashing tinfoil baking trays at 1000% volume in the middle of Karma grinding in Orr or just in general? Yeah, that’s the elementalists fire elementals wings flapping and it drives me insane.

As I tried to say in a topic a day or two ago (that got no replies…), GW2 PvP seems to be heavily balanced by 1v1 testing. 1v1 fights seem to be the most fun and balanced

Tell that to anyone but a bunker build when you have to react within 0.2 seconds or else you’re basically dead to a thief spec’d for insta-gib.

Cloak and dagger+steal+backstab for all your health within a fraction of a second…not too fun imo.

@killthehealers – 8-12 seconds is an awful time for a fight, that’s despicable and the fact fights in gw2 can sometimes be shorter needs to be addressed. you can’t display true skill if fights are 10 seconds, thats just rotating through your skills, theres no clever tactics when you engage every opponent the same way… for example …let’s see… cloak and dagger, steal, backstab, cloak and dagger, backstab?

So it was just me versus them...

The downed state is just an extension of the lifebar, downing people does not mean beating them.

Which is quite sad, I believe in downed state skills(pvp only) should hit for 100-200 damage just for chance to rally, glass cannon players should not be critting me for 1.7k while downed every 2 seconds.

So it was just me versus them...

i fully support this, guild perks and individual rewards for participation based on some WvW point/ranking system.

if you transfer obviously you start all over again with both.

Spvp you’re going to get roflstomped by thieves and mesmers until you learn how to play and WvW will be about mindlessly following the zerg because you don’t have the gear or pvP knowledge to go off on your own and take people out.

however it’s good to learn in WvW while following the zerg because you get a lot of karma and xp.

I just played about 10-15 games with absolutely NO Thieves.

it doesn’t matter as much as it should.

While 1v2 is possible, it’s not if both people you are fighting are even slightly competent. Teammate goes down you instantly CC enemy(knockdown, knockback) and can rez your teammate in a couple of seconds…or even better, be an elementalist start rezzing and pop mist form. That’s coming from myself, an elementalist and i think it’s stupid. Not to mention while downed, i can toss 1.6k crits every second at you, am i really even out of the fight?

Versatility is very limited, i expected a lot more, sure there’s some but no where near enough, pvp gets stale fast. i’ve tried every build there is on my ele and most feel very similar and very few are decent and next to none are good.

There’s no variety in builds, 50% of people are playing thiefs due to rendering issue, downed state makes 1v2s impossible, there’s no feeling of skill in gw2 and no sense of versatility., there’s no rewards, it’s quite disappointing to say the least.

50% ? Have you actually played any tournaments in this game ? free ones ? paid ones ? Clearly you know very little since you assume there is a 50% thief player base in the game , I recommend trying some tpvp or watch some tournament streams on twitch and come back to us later.

i know in tournaments it’s not all thieves obviously, but more people play hot join Spvp than tournaments and having thieves everyone insta-gibbing anyone who isn’t a thief is doing this game harm.

Don’t post thief videos, that doesn’t even count. besides i’ve already seen it. :P

you can even see half the time when he comes out of stealth on his screen people are still swinging at air, in WvW thiefs render so poorly it’s ridiculous.

i do commend him using pistol though(which hes quite good with), that’s different from the norm at least.

Also he can stealth to stomp people, most other classes don’t have that luxury.

Like I have suggested before, in order to fix the rendering problem with thieves, and the zerg in WvW or costume brawling in lions arch they needs to first add nameplates, regardless if the character model is loaded or not the nameplate should be up

For an even better solution, nameplates as well as a very low res shadow version of the character should be in place of the character until it renders.

As for the hacks…Anet get on it.

Yeah that is total BS. The thief class needs a total redesign imo. They have waaay to many escape cards. It’s funny, every thief I’ve talked to complains they have no utility, to which I reply you don’t NEED utility when you can do things like this.

Well I don’t entirely think the thief class needs a whole new design, maybe backstab could do a little less damage but overall it’s really just the rendering issue that’s causing the problem because they have 4 seconds or so when they come out of stealth until they can go back into stealth again, however, because they don’t render sometimes they can stealth again but because of rendering they can stealth again before they even become visible to you or right after they become visible, as you may have noticed in the video.

My main concern with this rendering isn’t even thieves 1v1 since that doesn’t do too much damage in WvW besides some really good supply camp campers, it’s the invisible zergs that really piss me off. :P

I don’t know if you’re saying that because you can’t PvP in Lions Arch or because rendering there is particularly bad and the place looks empty if you’re running around until you stand still for at least 10 seconds due to rendering.

@Knote – It depends, i’m starting to see more and more of these types of thieves single handedly supply camp defending/camping against 5-6 people just by stealth spamming invisibility, I remember one video of a particularly good thief with 3x orb buff repeatedly stealthing and insta-downing single players and finishing them while still stealthed. Was pretty hilarious to watch him pick off everyone in the group 1 by 1.

I’m not calling for a nerf, this is just me asking for the game to be the way it was intended and giving an example of a possible solution and as someone else stated, if not for the shadow idea I presented at least showing the nameplates would be good enough.

Well, that’s a balance problem then. ANet are definitely aware of the rendering issues and are presumably working on them as we speak, so it’ll go away in a while.

As much as I hate being randomly paralyzed and kitty-slapped down to 0 health out of the blue, you have to admit that it makes sense in a game that’s meant to be played in a group.

Also when 40 people start rendering in on your already dead corpse(as well as your 20 teammates), there’s a problem.

With or without rendering issues, just watching that fight looked annoying as kitten. Why you didn’t just leave after he ran 10 miles away the first time is beyond me. With that many escapes, you don’t do enough burst dmg by the time his heal comes up (every 30 seconds).

it depends, i could do the burst if i could see him(plus his heal doesn’t heal all his health, that’s passive out of combat regeneration), and the video was basically just to show the culling issues in action and I have to admit, it was a great fight regardless of the issues.

This is a 6:50 second fight, my elementalist against a random thief in WvW, the fight was really enjoyable but the culling needs to be fixed, also fraps started bugging(5:15-5:30) out then eventually cut out like…partial way through the fight. Yeah, there was more.

Basically fighting stealh abusing thiefs you’re fighting an invisible enemy 50% of the fight, who can attack while invisible, and disappear to disengage and full heal through passive regeneration. It makes finishing off this type of thief nearly impossible 1v1, I think a possible solution for Anet is a similar system to the one seen in TERA.

For example, If characters are taking a long time to render they should be replaced with very low res shadow figures of the character that take the characters place until the character model actually renders itself.

because while this issue effects all thiefs the most, it also affects everyone else, the entire zerg in WvW a completely un-rendered invisible armie can storm from nowhere to completely annihilate your whole group before they even render. or how about when you run through lions arch and see nobody unless you stand still in a spot for a long while? That’s all this lack of proper rendering and a lack of a lower res model replacing character until they fully render.

Hopefully Anet is listening to the community and can get this sorted out.

it’s not a nerf, i take it you didn’t watch or read anything, i also mentioned this culling/rendering problem doesn’t just affect thiefs. it affects everyone, especially in WvW. Also, have you ever ran into lions arch towards the mystic forge and seen nobody only to have people start popping in 15 seconds later? That’s all part of this issue.

I proposed a possible solution to it as well.

i’m 1100 toughness, 2100 armor in full exotics, mostly glass cannon specd.

Thief can probably hit me for 10k dancing dagger then…seems fair in my full glass cannon build i’d probably only hit that thief with a 5k dragons tooth(easily dodgeable long cast attack…)

Asuran Elementalist, beat it twice in a row somehow after failing too many times to count, second time only got trick or treat bags.

Took me about an hour because i didn`t have any idea what to do at that last beam then realized you need to jump down.

I still continue to see threads being made with the same issues i’m addressing in this thread, so here’s a tl:dr of this thread.

- Fixes to the rendering issue by providing a low quality black figure representing a character model until the actual model loads, much like TERAs current system.

- Removal off the orb until balancing/exploiting issues are resolved as well as providing outmanned teams with a proper outmanned buff.

- Also suggests a proper outmanned buff.

indeed, the fix to the outmanned buff and the removal of orbs(for the time being) are needed to balance WvW.

Currently outmanned in Eternal battleground and JQ literally just took 3 fully fortified towers in 15 minutes, all the gold and time gone in 15 minutes because an unstoppable group of JQ outnumbers us and has 3x orb buff, there’s really nothing we can do but sit there in the fetal position and take a fistful of destruction right up the rear.

The problem – Culling.

The Solution - Having a very low quality shadow of players, this is so you can see them coming even if their actual character model has not rendered, TERA online had this because the character models in the game were so detailed in large battles it took a long time for everyone to render, so instead you had black shadow like figures of the enemies so you could actually see where they were prior to rendering the actual character model.

The problem – orbs

The Solution - Remove orbs until the glitches and bugs are worked out and population instability or a proper outmanned buff is given. The orb as it currently stands is an exploiters paradise and an insult added to injury for servers losing badly or lacking coverage at certain times.

The problem- outmanned/poor 24/7 coverage

The solution(s) - Allow another server to only have 20 more players than another, say ioJ has 40 players in Eb, then that means JQ and Sbi can only have 60 players each in WvW before they get a queue. it may cause slightly longer queues for the heavily populated servers at certain times, but it will all balance itself out eventually. i mean, does anyone in blackgate even want to WvW against 3 people anyways?

Second Solution(better in my opinion) - outmanned buff, currently it activates when they have twice as many players as you i believe? So say you have 40 and they have 79, that seems a little ridiculous, but even if they have 80, you now get more Karma, that doesn’t help at all. instead you should get the outmanned buff in it’s normal glory(karma, xp, etc) but it also should provide buffs to stats based on how many youre outnumbered by.

it starts at 15% and scales, +1.5 to all stats and +0.1% total health for each 1% of players you are outnumbered by from 15%-70%. here are some examples at various increments:

15% more enemy players = +15 to all stats(1.5% more health)
30% more enemy players = +30 to all stats(3% more total health)
50% more enemy players = +50 to all stats(5% more total health)
70% more enemy players = +70 to all stats(7% more total health)

once it exceeds 70% more players, the enemies world should become “full” until it drops below that.

Everyone else feel free to throw in more suggestions(or try to improve on mine), these are just some solutions to multiple problems, I will edit the post with more solutions/problems as you present them.

You know what’s the annoying part about the Halloween update? The lack of people who realize they can still complete their monthlies in WvW. Hell, it’s even easier to do it in WvW it feels like, as the mining bonuses we’ve been earning mean that you often get two candy corn per pick swing, and there are about three nodes per base or camp that reset once every hour or two, so you can take them whenever you finish helping your team capture something.

i know, theres literally candy corn nodes everywhere in WvW.

Also this match is basically over, we have no late night/mid-day coverage on weekdays, neither does Janthir it seems.

Looks like we are finally pulling ahead with a good lead. Its still just Tuesday but I cant wait to read all the qq about the event making you guys lose.

Well…we had outmanned on two maps right now as does ioJ so…who knows. maybe we just conveniently lost coverage? Still was a good fight while it lasted. JQ made some amazing golem rushes and coordinated wonderfully all weekend though no doubt.

Also JQ is just letting ioJ do what they please in Eb while they spawn camp Sbi…they know who to knock out next.(we just pushed back though, however it was at a cost of coverage in the borderlands…made this post like 30 mins ago and had to edit it down here because the forum bugging).

Well with the halloween event JQs unsurpassed population will now show, especially during the night(even now Sbi has outmaned buff in Eternal battleground, as does Janthir), went down by 6k points just from last night. Was good while it lasted, Sbi will continue to push but i don’t think we will have the coverage to compete, especially with ioJ letting up so much allowing JQ to focus on us.

mesmers have portals for golems, enemy mesmers can portal into keeps that are in your control(certain ones at least), they can get underground and take out siege, they can phantasm siege almost anywhere, even siege that isn’t visible or in range of them…mesmer is the most useful class by far in WvW, exploits and all. good thief is a close second with their ability to control camps against 3-5 people alone, culling, insta-gibs(steal,cloak and dagger, backstab before rendering?) and all.

if elementalist didn’t have a cap on AoE i’m sure they’d become the most useful. The Ele-bomb(Patent pending), you give yourself 25 might, use churning earth and right as it’s about to cast click teleport on the portal and pop out into the zerg for ridiculous AoE damage and dodge back into the keep/tower to repeat the process.

This picture shows me hitting 5 people…if it wasn’t for the cap i would have hit about 20 people with 5k(non-crits) to 13k damage and a 6k bleed.

We had someone from JQ get in our keep on day one and destroy our alter as well as take our orb.

JQ has not lost that orb since they took it on day 1 through exploits, but unfortunately every server has these problems and I think it’s better off if they remove the orb buff until these exploits can be fixed.

Not only that but the orb adds insult to injury to servers losing badly…how can you fight against more people that also have 3x orb buff?

yesterday JQ had mesmers underneath bluelake destroying our siege. They destroyed our catapults on the ground and kept shooting our builder.
