Path of Fire Stress Test August 31, 2017

What is STRESS test? I don’t get it! It’s not “How the game can be stressful for players” I think? And so, we will have access to Elites, Mount AND Pve at same time? Some changes about mount sickness to expect?

Stress test is technical lingo for tests that might push part of a program to its limits (stress it). Applied to online games, a Stress Test is a test where a lot of players are invited to play at the same time in order to ensure that both the servers and the game client can support the increased stress put on the game systems.

Our Guild Hall has the same issue. You can see on the attached screenshot the two Lumber Synthesizers, one on the left side, one on the right side.

The synthesizer on the right-side is the one giving out 1 Green wood log.

Upcoming changes in Spring Quarterly Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Unless they run into a serious issue that needs to be addressed before shipping, it makes little sense to end two big events on the same day and tell the community to wait a week until the mystery update drops.

Actually, you could make a case for delaying the update. With both big event ending on the same day, there’s bound to be a rush to finish, and a part of the playerbase may suffer minor burnout. Giving a week off let the players rest a bit before the new stuff comes in, supposedly including the need for WvW feedback from the players.

[Bug Report] Jalis>Ventari switch pink box

Confirming the issue, with a bit more data :
The box appear whenever you switch to Ventari (reproduced both with Jalis=>Ventari and Mallyx=>Ventari)
It seems that it is a placeholder for a missing Ventari invocation animation.

Rev Weapon swap?

I could see the F1 switching both the legend and the weapon.
Basically, the revenant would have two weapon sets, but wouldn’t be able to switch them as usual. Instead, the first set would be used with the first legend, and the second set with the second legend.

With something like that a player could have a Jalis-Hammer/Ventari-Staff “build” and another a Jalis-Masse-Axe/Mallyx-Hammer for example.

That way it also would steal the Ele swap system.

API v2 items endpoint inconsistencies

in API Development

If the array can contain only one value, then, why to use an array in first instance?

Probably because the API mostly expose the inner game structure, and that, at some point, the possibility of multiple infusion slots was considered. Thus, the use of an array “just in case”.

Then the different values for this field are:

  • Defense
  • Ofense
  • Utility
  • An empty array means an agony infusion slot. (wat?)

I’ve got nothing, except maybe that it may be due to the fact that they reused for the ascended inscription a previous “agony” slot that was a bool ? maybe ?

Trying to explain some of those things from an outsider perspective is a bit like doing digital archeology.

I'm new to programming

Welcome into the world of programming.
The GW2 API is a still growing API that permit access to some of the data of the gw2 game, out of the game.
It allows, for example, access to Trading Post prices, Recipe, Event and recently Inventory/Bank content.

The API keys you can create in your account section are a special authentication key that you can give to applications to let them securely access some data about your characters.

The API is used by multiple apps and websites (more than a few are listed in this subforum).

If you want to dive a bit more in how the API can be used, you can take a look to the API Wiki

Is it possible to see how equipped items are dyed from the /eqiupment API? If not, can that be added?

Not possible for now. But I personally like the idea, especially since dye/color data is already present thanks to the /colors endpoint.

That said, seems there’s a WIP about extending guild infos. Dyes may or may not appear afterward.

Gw2 player housing question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Aralicia.6157

Hmmm, isn’t the Home Instance technically player housing ?
It’s a personal instance that :

  • only you can access unless enter it while in a group
  • you can upgrade it with various items (mostly resource nodes)

We’re pretty much in the functional definition of player housing, here.

Okay, it might seem strange that your “house” takes up a full district, with an orphanage, a tavern, a marketplace and a hospital, but functionally, player housing is already there. To be honest, I don’t think there will ever be anything else than that in GW2 for housing.

heart quests in guild wars 2 heart of thorns?

While I’m ok with the absence of new hearts (mainly because they have no replay value), I find one part of them vary appealing : the multiple ways we were able to complete them.

Most events leave no choice on how we can participate. They tend to be too… atomic in their approach. Moreover, I believe than some events could be wrapped-up in a single event, especially when they are in the same narrow location, or given by the same NPC.

For example, in Malchor’s leap, Byanca is a NPC that need to help reinforce the main camp by forging weapon from spectral hammers, and sometimes just leave the camp in order to search for Omnomberries.

Couldn’t we have a single event in this case, were the characters can either/both bash spectral weapons to give her the materials required for her job, and gather the berries she needs for her delicious wine ?

Overall, I wish they were more than one way to interact with the events around the character.

Well, I found what I’ll be doing after work tonight : I’ll take an hour to plot a 65-challenges path (supposing no initially known WP except for LA), and then run it to time how long it takes.

It’ll be fun

What are you leaving for Mesmer, ANET?

Other classes now generate Chaos Armor, once the sole province of Mesmer.
Other classes now generate confusion better than Mesmer can. R.I.P. another unique power of Mesmer.

Chaos Armor and confusion are actually two of the combo effects I’ve proc the most for a long time with my thief since Throw Gunk is a really common steal result in my experience, and it generates an ethereal field. Both the ranger and the necro could do the same if they wanted.
And without fields, the engi has 4 skills that can confuse (including a multitarget blind+confuse)

The thing is, they aren’t that great (be it in PvE or PvP).

They are tentative specialties of the Mesmer, but not unique to it.

What are you guys doing while waiting on Hot?

Aralicia.6157

In GW2 :
- Doing the Dailies (mostly PvE, PvP when not engaged by the PvE ones)
- Playing around in the PvE maps (Both vanilla and DT/SW)
- Slowly working toward completing my light of Dwayna without using the TP (except for the recipe, of course)
- Earning as much Influence/Merit as possible for our (really) small guild.

Otherwise, I recently picked up Windward. That’s a pretty calming game, I’ll see if it will last.

And I’m losing hours and hours playing and preping TRPG games.

What do we know about the hang gliding?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aralicia.6157

Aralicia.6157

I would also say that a lot of places would need to be rebuilt so that gliding did not undo the places original challenge, specifically where not falling is the difficulty, like some JPs

For some of the places (like Goemm’s Lab), we could have “High wind/Turbulence” areas that forbid glider usage, while others (like Griffonrook Run) can generate an automatic failure if the glider is opened.

But yes a lot of puzzle/vista would need to be reworked if the devs allow gliders in the vanilla maps.

Isn't Everyone A Dragon Hunter?

“Dragonslayers? Pah, any fool can call himself a dragonslayer. Most get themselves killed within a few days, which is probably for the best. No, the real skill isn’t in walking into the dragon’s cave and challenging it to a duel—it’s in tracking it across a hundred miles of wilderness, sneaking up close and killing it before it even knows you’re there.”

Guardian Elite Spec - Zen Archery w Paper..

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aralicia.6157

Aralicia.6157

I tend to be against the idea of using modern kyudo (or Zen Archery) for the Guardian because it is now a ritualistic sport, and not the combat techniques that were Kyujutsu.

Another main issue with the idea is that such moves would look really weird with the symetric (“western”) bows that GW2 shows.

That said, if the rumor is true and the Guardian is this week elite spec, it is far too late for such an idea, since the general concept and most important skills are probably already finalised.

Megaserver system needs improvement

Because programming wise is stupidly easy to implement.

As a developer myself, I often see myself smiling when reading such assertions. “easy” fixes can often in reality be developing nightmares depending of the current implementation.

Proposing changes is allright (I tend to agree with your current demand), but please don’t demean the work of ANet’s teams by assuming a fix is easy while we know very little of the actual server architecture and codebase of GW2.

How will HoT deal with pc performance?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aralicia.6157

Aralicia.6157

Why don’t they split into two clientes? One for older computers (x86) and another for brand-new PCs with higher capabilities (x64).

Because that would require maintaining two clients which will basically double workload? ^^

Maintaining multiple clients increase workload, sure. But double ? Hardly. Most of the client’s code would probably still be shared. However, there would still be a huge cost to extensively test a new client to ensure that would be no x64-specific bug.
Afterward, maintaining both would cost a fraction more than maintaining only the one. But the initial cost is probably big, and not something to start without much reflection.

Furthermore, with the expansion in the middle of development, the in-dev client is probably pretty unstable, and try to build & test on top of an unstable client, is as much a good idea than building a tower on top of quicksands.
