I have this strange problem: everything is perfect if I play in fullscreen or in windowed mode (with frames). But if I maximise my windowed gw2 so there are no frames on each side (but ican still see taskbar and use programs without alt-tabing all the time) game becomes a little blurry and my eyes hurt after playing after a while with such graphics. Is there a solution to this? Ty.
I run Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel Core i5-2500K, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560. Have latest drivers and everything. Tried all different game graphics combinations from low/medium/high – has zero effect.

Hi everyone.
I’ve decided to buy a laptop to play gw2 when i’m not at home, but I’m not sure which one should I choose. I don’t want very powerfull and expensive one, but also I don’t want to have 10 fps and 5 minutes loading screens in gw2. Unfortunately, I never had any laptops before, so I have no idea about this.
My budget is 500-600 euros, I don’t mind playing on minimum graphics (max performance setting) and I don’t plan doing WvW on it. Just some casual fractals, sw, map exploring and etc. Please give me some advice. Thanks!
I’ve been using an SSD with the game for 2 years now. It is completely worth it.
I hear this a lot, but do you have any numbers? I mean is it twice faster? Or how much better? I just don’t want to waste money if it is going to be not 20 seconds load, but 15 seconds instead or so.
And are there any other ways to make loading faster? I played some other MMOs with same PC, but loading there is much better, usually takes a few seconds. Don’t know why in GW2 it takes so much time. :-(

I don’t have any problems with FPS, cuz I usually play with “Best Performance” settings, but using WPs, or going to another map usually takes a lot of time (10-20 seconds average) which is quite annoying. So that’s why I’m considering buying SSD now, but I want to know what to expect. Is it going to make loading screens time shorter 20%, 30% , or maybe 50%? Is SDD worth it at all?
Here is my PC configuration:
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-M Pro
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K, 3500 MHz
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (1024 MB)
Memory: 8 GB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)
HDD: WDC (1000 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-III)
Maybe I should upgrade some other parts as well? But as I said, I dont care much about graphics, I only use “Best Appeareance” setting for screenshots and chilling in Guild Hall or etc. So I just want fastest map loading times possible.
But, but… What about “the new maps are so hard, there are no people there,
nobody is cooperating, people not helping at all and zones will be dead in 1 week” drama? How can all these forum doomcryers be wrong?
I really love the way that new maps and events are designed. Open world team play and coordination was one of the things me and people who I play with were really missing in old GW2 open world areas. They started with creating Silverwastes (which I think is one of the best maps in whole GW2) and continued to implement it in HOT maps.
But there are obviously some problems with that. Old players have a habbit to follow single zerg com, there is no other map which requires many small/medium group coordination and etc. Even SW being a teamplay map is quite easy: you just need 4 coms during phase 1 and 3 coms during VW. And even without coms people will go to forts/lanes because it is a very obvious thing to do.
New maps thou, is a different story. Ofc, if we just wait several months or even more people most likely will invent some common ways to do these maps, thou in my opinion it is still going to fail a lot due to overall complexity. So I think a better way to solve this problem is to give additional tools to playerbase so we can coordinate with each other in a much more efficient and fun way. Here are some ideas:
1. Player map radar.
We are already able to see all our guildmembers on all maps (as yellow dots) in real time, so what about making us able to see ALL players on a single map that we join (just like in WvW you can see allies that are close but on whole map instead). That way each player will always know where are more than enough people, where there are few or where there are none. It can also be implemented as a mastery to gain. If some people don’t like to see a lot of green dots on their HOT maps, just make an option to turn it on/off.
2. Local LFG tool.
Sometimes I just want to make/join a party but from players that are not scattered all over the map, but who are close by and who defend/do specific events. Would be nice to have some option to see parties with free slots that are in some proximity to you and to make them see that you want to join party so they can invite you. Faster and more efficient group finding is something that I miss a lot in new maps.
3. Party bonuses.
How about encouraging team play on HOT maps? For example, give some buffs to people in party if they stay in certain radius. Like “Strenght in Numbers BOON” 1% damage/1% defence agains enemies for each party member in 2000 range. Or other similar combat or even +exp/mf bonuses. Ofc many solo oriented players not going to like it, but I think it is quite natural to encourage group play in maps that are designed for group play. You know, some people are doing solo dungeon runs, thou dungeons were designed as group instances.
4. Anti map hoping.
I think anet should give more bonuses for staying on a finished map instead of jumping all the time and sniping the almost finished ones. This is also one of the things I don’t like about SW. The bonuses of staying there are just not enough to make people want to actually stay. Which is kinda sad I think. Looks like a broken design to me. Make maps faster a bit, but give more incentive to stay and continue. That will encourage people to stay with current party for example and do stuff together more than when they just jump every 10 mins from one map to another.
5. Additional COM abilities
How about givinn COMs an option to show their status? For example: “Requesting More people”, or “We are good, no more people needed”. This is done in map chat now, but when there are many coms on new maps it becomes quite hard to accomplish + different languages on megaservers not making it easier.
P. S. Please support this topic if you like the concept of team play and player coordination. I personally hope Anet will find ways to make this kind of new experience better, and won’t nerf it to “follow the zerg and press 1 to win” instead.

Same problem on EU. 2 hours now.
It can be made for guild/party/whisper only for example. So map chat won’t be flooded with it. Thou when I see german or french or spanish in map chat I don’t mind, even thou they look pretty foreign to me.
So let me get this straight. When the number of negative reviews outnumber the positive, it’s because a vocal minority is the only one bothering to review the game. But when the number of positive reviews outnumbers the negative, it’s a vocal majority? Is that what you’re saying? Surely I’m just misunderstanding what it is you’re actually trying to say?
1. When op made this topic the link had very low scores and low amount of votes. So that means the first guys who went voting were the ones that rage. I voted only an hour ago for example, because was too busy enjoying the game. Same for my friends and etc.
2. When 20 hours or so passed, the number of votes increased many times and so did the average score. Which means most of people actually enjoy HoT and the rage quitting whires are the minority.
If you intense like action, group content, challenge and stuff that requires you to carefully choose skills, traits, stats, weapons, strategy and etc – buy it.
If you are a casual who likes to mindlessly run after zerg and single commander, and you only press skill number “1” 95% of the time or just afk during events – then don’t buy it.

Most of people who like expac are playing expac. The ones that RAGE are making whiny cry baby threads and make 1/10 score on websites. But now as we can see scores went up and continue to do so, because the amount of raging casuals is very low compared to the general player base.
I just wanted to post same thing. +1 to this!
I totally agree with OP! But don’t worry, whiners are gonna leave soon or get better at game. So it just needs time. Also they are only a minority of palyerbase, less than 1%, so their opinion doesn’t matter that much. Thou they may think they are special.
But… chaotic and uncomfortable for play. And mini map just usless in HoT.
Not at all. Maybe it is just you need to get better? I have no problem with navigating in new jungle and using mini map. And I love it, new maps require you to think actually. Much better than mindlessy following 1 huge zerg on a flat sufrace. Is that what you want?
My only problem right now is that barely any of it is soloable.
If there aren’t a lot of players around you can’t get anything done..
There is “Party” option in this game if you don’t know yet. You can have 5 people to group together. Try it. It’s not a single player game btw.
I could see this coming, and hopefully they don’t neuter the new maps like they did with early Orr-HoT should be more challenging than base GW2, requiring help even on the “easy” overworld map. I am not “hardcore”, but really want a more challenging, even daunting maps experience that force people help each other beyond getting daily chests.
Balance things if you will, but don’t make HoT too easy, please.
Totally agree with you.
I think these guys that didn’t res you are the ones who “i must get all masteries and elite specs in 1 day, so no time for stopping by” types. I always go to new maps with 5/5 party, mostly my guildmates or even guys from LFG. And had only positive experience so far. Don’t play alone, it is MMO and HOT made GW2 the way it should have been from the start! Not Solo Wars 2.
I think anet should make a special server for “no-grinders” where you get 9 characters lvl 80, full 100% map, all skins, all legendaries and etc. So they don’t have to grind. Just please anet, don’t NERF the HOT. Now it is almost perfect. Whiners gonna whine anyway.
This is what I feel as well, its as thou they created a new game rather then continue the old one. From casual solo to hardcore group oriented.
You haven’t seen “hardcore” then. New maps are group oriented casual. If they are too hard for you – get better. Or play older maps, cuz they are easy and designed for solo play. Me, my guild, all my friends – we waited all this time for harder group oriented content. And now we are finally enjoying it!
I only see rage on forums. And this is just a small minority of people. Other 99.99% are enjoing the expac. See ya in game!
Just let the low skill whiners rage quit. After a week or two they will be gone.
Quality > Quantity.
Let’s just hope Anet won’t be nerfing everyting just because of some cry babies.
OK. Listen.
- Doing CoF over and over and over again without stopping to amass gold, where your
brain is already dead andwa
- Running like idiots in SW to dig for chests, whereas you could do amazing VW event.
- Deliberately scaling up and failing events to spawn champs, creating trains out of this
kitten.
- Killing the Champions spawning at Claw of Jormag to get loot, instead of Dragon
itself.
- Epxloiting your way to end of ARAH or some hard reached Coins, and Selling it on
LFG.

I could count numerous other kitten, gold-farm oriented self called “hardcore” playerbase is doing to utterly destroy every move Anet does to increase playability. Every move anet does to balance rewards and try to broaden the spectrum of stuff to do around tyria, some player comes and kittens in middle of it by creating some “gold/per/minute” exploit, farm.New thing is now people use endless waves of enemies in CoF to earn mastery points.
There is absolutely nothing, anet can do to make you happy. OK? You are not to satisfy. You just want more gold per hour, I want to play content. You would repeat CoF till you dire out of boredom and blame Anet for not creating engaging content.
If Anet would just increase rewards of new contentm you would shift your farming there and farm till new content is there again. Anet tries to get you out of your disease ridden CoF and encourages you to see the world by taking your toys and you complain.
I suggest anet to give 1mil gold to every whining “hardcore” player so they cna buy the kitten they want and get bored faster and GTFO here.
This.
It’s just 90% of players on each new map have no idea what to do. Just give them a time. Soon there will be guides for those who can’t figure it all by themselves.
I take it you aren’t on a revenant then, since revs are so new, no ones going to have map completion for tyria so it will take much longer. and good, this should be nerfed.
I plan to go with my revenant to old maps and do them first, because I enjoy this. And I have no reason to rush everyting. Also, you can just do the hero points and avoid hearts, vistas, etc if want it faster. Don’t see any problem here. I enjoy doing things, not rushing things in 1 day.
To all that guys asking for a refund: can I have your loot?
I think the exp for masteries goes to fast. I expected it to be much more slower. At first I was using boosters, but now I don’t just to avoid rushing the content. I totally enjoy the new maps and events – they are super fun. Some of my friends thou find these new maps very hard and confusing, but only those who have low skills and play rarely. After I helped them to understand the new mechanics and etc. the problem was gone however. So maybe OP should get some help from good players as a solution?
Same. The expansion is 10/10 for me. Great job Anet!
I didn’t even finish the first map and I already have 75% of my elite specs unlocked. And personally, I think elite spec training should be much harder than it is. But to guys like you we shall all see some nerfs pretty soon. I just hope Anet won’t be nerfing Raids when casual players start crying…
I disagree. I think you should work hard for elite specs. Now they are too easy to get (maybe not easy for casual players with low skill, not sure why some people complain on forums).
9/10
The mastery leveling is too fast I think. Thou many people whine about it being too slow, lol! I hoped leveling masteries would be more challenge. But for some casual players it seems very hard.
The only thing I’m a little dissapointed about is the speed at which you train your mastereies. The speed is too fast I think. Also, I think there should be more effort for gaining elite specs. And It is not a sarcasm – I honestly think it is too easy. And the reason why there are some people whining and complaining on the forums (they are a small minority thou, less than 1% of player base) is just because Anet is making some parts of the game too easy in favor of these whining guys. Don’t NERF it more ANET, please. It is good as it is.
