Monthly achievement EXP points...

I got it through crafting, but my problem was more that I got a bug. Basically, whenever you use a waypoint, zone to another map, change character or log out your exp counter gets reset. So I had to do 100k in one go. :/

A / command like they had in GW1 which tells you how much exp you made since your last death would be mighty useful here, too.

On the same topic but about “lifetime survivor”: has anybody got that working for them? Mine still says 0 / 200.000 though I must have at least 100k, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten the monthly survivor. Very strange…

Shouldnt World Map Show Underground Locations?

I think that’s the function Angelus is talking about. (?)

I agree with him… so far the different layers only make the map darker or lighter but don’t actually show anything new even if I covered the whole map on foot. Even if I am standing underground it only shows on the minimap in a tiny circle while the big map shows my marker in a huge grey or brown vastness that depicts the mountain I’m under.

"Fixing" most of the broken skill-challenges and events

On my journey around the world of Tyria I came across a number of bugged DE’s and only one bugged skill challenge. The DE’s were usually fixed when I logged back in the next day, but this one skill challenge (near Bayt Fallahin in Malchor’s Leap) has been down for a week now on several servers. I jumped on different ones to check it out each day until server transfer got limited to once/24h.

Long story short: I hope those suggestions or something similar gets implemented.

Good idea.

Or at least make the tools account bound. My lv 80 ranger has one bag filled up with harvesting tools (I don’t like to waste a Mithril or Orichalcum Sickle on a mere Onion. 12s to buy a full T6 gathering tool set is a lot of money for me). Most of them would be more useful on my other characters that need the lower tier tools much more often, but each of them had to buy their own sets…

Actually I believe there are special events that happen at different times.

E.g. almost all cemeteries I came across are different during the day and night. I’ve also seen a few NPCs that do different things or hang around different places depending on the time of day (in game).

I’d love to be able to tell what time it is in the game. Something like a small half-moon-shaped display that rotates a sun and a moon with stars and dusk and dawn between those two. No need for numbers (aka 24h day), just a general indicator of time.

On a personal note, the name “Tengu” always irritates me to no end. When I hear that name I think of Japanese demons with long noses that live on mountains. Quite scary and ugly, too, those demons.

A bit like the minotaur having been turned into a herd animal?

Yeah… but this is Tyria and not Japanese or Greek mythology so I learned to live with it. lol

More Armor Customization

PvP armour is already separate, so there shouldn’t be much of a problem to make PvE armour transmute-able into another armour type. Please note that this is a very uneducated assumption about how difficult or possible this would be to implement.

I don’t see any big issues with mistaking one class for another in PvE. I mean, right now you can’t tell if the hunk of metal fighting next to you is a warrior or guardian until they use one of their skills.

Furthermore, this game is build around the system that any class can take on any role. So unless you are one of those people who ask for specific classes and builds to do a dungeon it shouldn’t really matter. (and even then it shouldn’t matter to you if your precious power/precision elementalist is wearing a bikini or a plate armour)

Finally, if you really must know someone’s class for any reason whatsoever you could simply ask the guy in a leather trench coat what his class is. So far it has worked great on the server I’m on (Piken Square) if you see someone with an armour or weapon skin you like. Just ask what it is and 99% will answer you.

If it were put to a vote, I’d vote for yes because the more choices the better.
Reason 1: Sometimes you just want to look like something that isn’t possible with your armour type. This is mostly RP-related; e.g. heavy armour is more fitting for my background story, but I’m a ranger…
Reason 2: I find light and heavy armour more appealing. My top 5 armours in this game are anything but medium. If I could, I would have my Norn ranger run around in the heavy T3 cultural armour.

Tengu Species

The Tengu were supposed to be a playable race, but were dropped. Character Art Team Lead Aaron Coberly talks about it in a small paragraph on p.62 in the “Making of Guild Wars 2” book that came with the CE. He says the Tengu are a race with appeal and potential. They had planned their city to be in the center where it is still in the game.
There is also some speculation of how the Tengu might have evolved/developed since GW – Factions. (different bird species)

On a personal note, the name “Tengu” always irritates me to no end. When I hear that name I think of Japanese demons with long noses that live on mountains. Quite scary and ugly, too, those demons.

Tier 3 Culture armor.

Ascari.2839

Personally, I want the T3 so I can get the achievement. I’m not that interested in the skins per se (probably because the only one I’d really like to have is the Norn heavy, but my Norn is a ranger, but that’s another topic).

I agree that T3 has to be difficult to get, but atm it seems to be a little too much for something that is just a skin as far as gameplay is concerned. Also note, that you can’t even transmute them without buying the gem store transmutation kits.

Just playing the game (no dungeons and no boring grind of anything) I’ll take about half a year to 3/4 of a year to get ONE full set of T3 cultural armour. My other idea to just “buy” it with gems → gold quickly ended in a brick wall because that would cost about £760 per full set. That’s more than what I pay for my rent. lol

My solution: I will work on other achievements and just enjoy what I normally do without fretting too much about those T3 cultural armours.

+1 I like the idea, though I’m more like Erin on this topic.

Additional idea:
What I’d like to add is maybe something to make the upper and lower layers a bit more easily visible. For me they look exactly like the middle layer, only darker. My hope in this is to make the explorer achievement a little bit less tricky.
It would also help those who have trouble finding points of interests underground.

On my Norn I have all Maguuma and Shiverpeaks maps on 100% but I am still missing 3 and 2 regions if I look at the explorer achievement tab. The maps are no indication of where those might be hiding out.
You can look up in the wiki which vistas, hearts, poi and skill challenges you have and which ones you don’t, but with regions you can’t. So they could be anywhere between Wayfarer Hills to Frostgorge Sound.

When the free server transfer ends, the guesting system will be enabled. That is basically the same as a free server transfer, except it’s PvE only. You can’t do WvW or sPvP on a world where you are only a guest.

actually I think you can still do sPVP while guesting. the only thing that guesting lockes you out of is WVW, as that is the only place where such a lock out makes sense.

Hmm, yeah, would make sense if sPvP was still possible…
I checked the wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World) and you are right, sPvP should be possible. Only world versus world PvP won’t be possible as a guest.
Cool.

You also can’t dance in shapeshifted form. We tried to do a victory dance after defeating one of the world event bosses… wouldn’t do.

Cosmetic animal forms would be cool. It could even eventually include forms of the lesser Spirits. I’m sure Norn don’t just shapeshift into the forms of the four major Spirits.

Asura could get golems. Sylvari maybe glow or pollen as it is described in the books. Charr and Humans… hm… maybe someone else can think of something cool for them

Hooray, I’m barely or no player because I’m only using that skill as my elite.

In all seriousness, I’m a Norn Ranger and my play style is mostly ranged. Out of all my options I find the Mistfire Wolf to be the most useful. Besides, I like the looks of the Mistfire Wolf and his pups and they saved my skin already in so many situations when I needed extra damage or more pets to take the heat off of me so I could heal up/rally.
I did get 2 other elites (Rampage as One because it is the only one working under water and Become Wolf to try out a more hands on melee elite) and they have their uses, but personal preference let’s me use the Mistfire Wolf as long as I’m not under water.

And for your other points: I’m with Elle on that one.
Every pre-order has the skill and you can save lots of skill points if you don’t get any other elites. Skill points that in the end can massively shorten the time it will take you to get 200 and buy the Mystic Forge item to get legendary weapons.
If you [note: general you, not you Joxa] are not interested in the Mystic Forge or Legendary weapons, then I suppose my last point is moot.

I would like them to remove every possible PvE content from WvW so we could avoid PvE carebears in PvP at all. Double win situation.

You’d still get all sorts of people in WvW every other month if only for the fact that everyone who wants the monthly achievement needs to kill 50 players in WvW.

Yeah good idea. It could be similar to the EVE Online marketplace. I’ve always missed that one in other MMOs.

I’ve never played EVE online, but this would really be very usefull.

Very detailed description can be found here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Market_guide

Once you use it, it’s actually very easy and handy, but the whole set up is very complex. I also love the many apps for smartphones that use live market data in Eve… which kind of reminds me of GW2’s extended experience. Whatever happened to that one…?

Structured PvE

in Suggestions

Posted by: Ascari.2839

Ascari.2839

True. You’re suggestion is very newbie friendly and invites to experiment with / learn different classes in a PvE setting.

The importance of skill over gear and that everyone starts from an equal footing has been an appealing factor of GW1 as well and it’s doing good for GW2, too. Perhaps the same will be true for PvE when you are not limited by per-requirements like leveling up and getting the best gear.
Though exactly that part is the most interesting one for a lot of PvE enthusiasts who like to show off the good stuff they accomplished and managed to get. A sPvE feature, however, may take away the “sense” of doing max level things in regular PvE. Why go through all the trouble and get ready for Orr, Frostgorge Sound, explorable Arah and other level 80 content, when you can just jump into sPvE?

In any event, I hope this thread will find more people to talk about this idea.

Ascari.2839

If people want that sort of thing, I wouldn’t be bothered by it’s existence (though if it came with achievements the completionist in me would be sort of annoyed at yet another thing to never be completed).

However, I’m personally not excited about the idea. Competitive gamers are usually the PvP crowd. The competitive PvE people already got explorable dungeons. (Maybe I should also note that I found the story mode to be difficult to do in a PUG without losing days worth of money on it.)
It’s not been done before, so there’s no way to tell how it would be received, but I don’t know… it just doesn’t sound fun to my ears. Non-competitive gamers will probably take a look and enjoy the full PvE gear/skills and explore that area like it was regular PvE at max level, while the competitve gamers are either a) the PvP people who prefer the unpredictability of a real opponent than a scrpted NPC foe or b) the raiders.

Just my 2 coppers, though…

Hair stylist NPCs

Ascari.2839

Suggested and supported this and similar ideas on all BWE forums and I’m still 100% behind this idea. Hair stylist / barber NPC would be awesome and also follow the philosophy of the game which is about appearance and customization of your character looks.

At the very least I’d love to see a way to change the colour of hair accessory. If you chose a hairstyle with one of those you are always stuck with that colour and that often limits which colours you can use on your armour without looking ridiculous.

lowering the price for tier 3 cultural armor sets

I calculated that I will need 238 days of playing 5-6h per day to get 119g. (I make about 40-50silver over 5-6h). I’ve seen people claim to have 40g or that they make 16g a day, but none of them shared their amazing secret.

The alternative route is to buy gems and sell those for gold. At 20silver for 100 gems or 1g = 600gems… that is 71400gems for a full T3… so a lot.

My guess is, T3 is meant for very dedicated farmes, creative folks who know how to make 16g a day, or those who buy lots of gems?

Edit: got recent gem prices.

Hero Home Instance - How It Can Be Better

in Suggestions

Posted by: Ascari.2839

Ascari.2839

I really like your idea. The home instance has so much potential. It’s kind of sad that I never ever returned back to it after my first story arc. It was just so far away and nothing special waiting for me.
The home instance is THE place where your character gets the chance to establish THEIR story and build personal bonds with other NPCs.

It’s difficult for an MMO to cater to so many diverging stories and it’s more of a single player RPG feature, but what makes me (and many people I know) return to a game is the attachment we have to certain people and the “shared memories” we have with them. (of course, in an MMO ist more about the shared memories with other players, but you know, the home instance has the potential to make the personal story much more immersive)

I also like your idea about minor things having unexpected outcomes or making stuff depending on your personality. The personality of my character has so far only come up 3 times in 80 levels and TONS of NPC conversations. (I literally talk to every NPC I meet, everywhere and every time.) And it never felt like it made a big difference if I chose the noble option or went with a regular one.

However, I wouldn’t want negative or bad things to happen as a consequence. Like in your example getting the NPC killed or becoming a bank robber. There can be tension/drama/twists, but they should all end well one way or the other. (this is not a single player game that can easily be replayed within a few days, MMO choices are much more permanent)
Besides, there already are negative events in the personal storyline. For example, my Norn ranger has had some pretty devastating experiences, but they all eventually ended on a good note or at least in a way that my Norn would consider it good. (except this one story feels like it’s not going to get a happy ending and I’m invested enough in the story that I actually feel bad about it iRL)

To summarize: Love this idea. I hope we’ll see improvements like this sometime in the future.

I can sympathize with your frustration, but I doubt this will see any changes. Dito for the jumping puzzles. Sometimes I got lucky and an “enemy” player and I did it side by side without any issues, another time I got killed by a 4 person squad…

I don’t think this trick will be of any use anymore, but when the game was just out and the WvW was matched up horribly, I found it easy to explore whole maps early in the morning (8-9am UK time) when most people where not around and hopefully my server owned the whole place. With speed boost and no enemy encounters it takes about 25-30min per borderland map, 30-40min for Eternal Battleground.

I’m level 71, I hardly die, but if I do I spend 1s20c or something to revive at the nearest waypoint and then another ~2s to repair my stuff. If I had the kind of money some of you seem to be having I’d say “okay, no biggie”. 3s is not a lot money, but it is enough to be felt. (I have maybe 1 gold… and I didn’t even buy stuff. Just gathering tools and dungeon / WvW repair costs)
It also makes it a tedious endeavor to go to other zones and play with friends or help them with a dungeon and then walk back to where I was before (even using the Heart of the Mists shortcut).

I love immersion and I’m usually the one supporting those threads asking for more immersion, but I REALLY miss the instant travel like we had in GW1. That offered so much freedom of choice of what to do and where to go.
Travel in GW2 need not be unlimited or free… it can cost a little or cost could be tied to the level of the region… but the waypoint to revive should be free.

I’m also for account wide. (Note: not saying it has to change, just saying it as a suggestion I’m strongly supporting since BWE1)

My reason for this opinion: Then I could buy the gems, get the dyes unlocked for all 7 characters and be done with it. It’s partly a completionist thing and partly the joy I take from the aesthetics of the game.
I won’t spent a pence on character bound dyes, so I have to rely on random drops from monsters and gathering nodes. The trading post is also not really an option because 319 dyes for 7 characters will have me bankrupt before I even get one character outfitted with only my favourite dyes.
