I had already suggested this idea once but differently thought. I wanted make a “melt” of death shroud and lich form.
(edited by Ashenvall.1564)
Main focus for necro:
- Healh
- condi
- lifesteal
Give to necro more tourment, burn, freeze and a single condi for our class comparable to agony.
Delete and melt lichform with DS.
And more …
Give to Necromancer more condition like : agony
MWAHAH
I’m joking
I agree, our minions seem pathetic compared to these one.
I like your thread. You did well.
I suggest this idea in previous thread.
Replace Death shroud by lich form. I keep Death shroud’s mechanics(10 s CD) but I replace/ melt abilities, obviously I decrease damages and conditions (Otherwise overpowered, I guess). I maintain lich form “appearance” but a smaller version with death shroud’s dark flame.
I’m doing this for one reason: Lich form should have been Death Shroud at the outset.
Just a moment, imagine possibilities!
1/ Deathly Claws ( Chain ?)
Send out grasping claws to damage your foes. Pierces
2/ Grim Specter (20 sec) (Isn’t a mark anymore)
Send out a claw that explodes in the target area and teleport you too.
Convert boons to conditions for your foes, and convert conditions to boons for you and your allies.
3/ Chilling Wind (15sec)
Release a freezing wind that chills and pushes back foes.
You deal more damage when you are closer to the target.
4/ Necrotic Shackles (30 sec)
At each pulse, you damage nearby foes, conditioning them repeatedly and stealth their life force. The bind may be break if ennemies move out of range of this ability.
Pulse: 9
Add 1 torments per pulse. (9 torments max)
5/ Mark of Horror (45 sec)
Inscribe a mark that summons five jagged horrors when a foe triggers it. (5 horrors maximum, you can’t combine with “Rise!”)
Fear foes if tormented (1,5 second), increased duration to close range (2,5 second)
PS: I already hear your cry of protest !

i feel like allowing us to choose which shroud we want to use wouldnt be terribly game breaking, nor would it be bad game design
you take reaper but decide you prefer death shroud over reaper shroud. so you switch reaper shroud out for death shroud, much like how our utility slots work. no big deal
dont give us the ability to straight up switch between the 2 shrouds during combat, give us choice. i dont see anything wrong with that
Got an F1 & F2 (Death shroud & kitten r shroud) sharing the same cooldown (10 sec) like I said before. I agree with you: It’s not game breaking/ bad game design
@RashanDale in many post you critize everything without suggest an helpful idea.
“Criticism is easy and art is difficult”
My solution to this issue would be to give us a choice of which skills from each shroud you bring when you go Reaper. Make the whole bar like a utility that way you can still some choice on your build. I’d love to keep most of the Reaper Shroud skills and just add DS4 instead of RS4. Make it so you can only have a choice of the corresponding skill.
The problem that I’m having with all these improvements and “options” is that for every new set of traits and we (and I mean all classes) get the more we’re pigeon holed into a few core builds. We used to have points and 5 trait lines. Now we gained another Grand Master trait but only have 3 lines. Build diversity lowered. We (now I’m talking about necros) get a new shroud but only in with the Reaper trait line thus limiting our choice of trait lines to 2. So AGAIN we lose build diversity. Some traits and skills are so broken no one uses them and other’s are pretty much forced synergy. I mean if I play Wellomancer without Vampiric Rituals to speed up my cooldown time siphon health and add protection then I’m probably stupid. But then that brings down my real choice of GM traits to 2.
2 things I’d like to see in shrouds in the future is 1) the above mentioned shoud skill swap and 2) shroud skills 7-9. I had a thread where I suggested that they should have traits to unlock new shroud skills. So in order to get a new skill you have to pick a certain trait. For example take a crappy GM trait like Unholy Martyr and you unlock a skill shroud skill 7 that lets you damage a target and apply a stack of bleeding for every condition on you.
Thank you! I’m not alone in this fight anymore.
Now, regardless of semantics and how you want to spin things. The devs said the intention of Elites were to basically be “unique sub classes” that played differently than the core. That’s what their own goal was, and it made sense, to not introduce and obvious power creep you’d suspect something given up for the unique gains.
Like you said "the devs said the “intention” of elites were to basically be unique […]"
However, they don’t respect their commitment. Now, we are alone with the previous way of thinking. But, I agree with the devs : Why does I lost what I have?
By the same logic: Why do you have to replace a traitline when you want to select a new one? Why do you lose a utility skill and can no longer cast it if you put a new one on your skill bar?
For balance. But, it’s justice to lose something and others professions not?
=> Why do my friends get some candies? And not me?
i’d rather stick to having one shroud with clear advantages and drawbacks
It’s a suggestion thread, so I can’t define clearly advantages and drawback. Here, I try to offer some solutions.
yes and thats a bad thing. those elite specs should be changed to be more like the reaper. not the other way around.
Homogenise that situation is simpler and more reliable. I don’t like limited gameplay like you suggest. For me elite spec give a new dimension gameplay.
Also, as you can see I had added a counterpart: Shrouds share the same cooldown. Isn’t overpowered but give to necro a little up
I’d argue Reaper and Dragon Hunter is in the right. They’re intended to be unique sub-classes. Classes which only gain and lose nothing broke the whole idea of Elite specializations if you ask me. Something should have been given up for each.
As such I don’t really think Reaper should get to chose, nor do I think Virtues should be chosen between.
And frankly, I do think Chronomancer should have altered shatters.
Some, like Druid are a little bit tricky, but I don’t think enough was given up. It’s part of why Elite specs are considered power creeps, many just gained in power, and in the cases where it didn’t happen, you find that RS just overshadows the base shroud instead. The sub classes should have been far more unique overall, otherwise the base class just loses identity and purpose.
You go tothe elementary school. You gain some knowledge adapted to this grade. Right? Now, you go in university. Do you lose what you learn in elementary school? No, it’s same here. Why necro loses death shroud whereas others professions lose nothing? (except Guardian)
(edited by Ashenvall.1564)
absolutely not. maybe some unfitting self-conditions should be changed or the additional conditions of master corruption, but self-condition should definitely stay. if the corruptions are too weak, than their power should be buffed, not their drawback and unique aspect removed.
It’s the only profession which auto damaged you. It’s weird for me.
i love the shrouds and would hate to see this happen
In this part. I have not been clear enough. I wanted write: Lich form WILL BE the new death shroud (CD decrease, damage adapted for shroud etc…) Shrouds mechanics don’t disappear!!!However elite skill: lich form will disappear…..
no. why? look at ronpierce’s argument in the other thread. elite specs should, despite the name, not be straight upgrades. also didnt you just suggest replacing the shroud with lich form as class mechanic?
So F1 is going to a new death shroud with appearance and abitlities of Lich form
And F2 Reaper Shroud.
We get in this manner close and mid~long range
Herald, warrior, mesmer, engeneer and ranger have not sacrifice a single ability to run elite skills.
They should make this skill be a real risk to the necromancer
For example it should apply like 20 stacks of bleed for 1 minute
I’m in a hurry so ill post reasons later.Lol.
Step 1:
“Apply 20 stacks of long-lasting bleed to self.”Step 2:
Using staff, press 4 underneath target, taking an unblockable 20 stacks of long-lasting bleeding.Step 3:
Watch them die to what was intended to be your own 20 stacks of bleeding, or if cleansed, apply your real conditions.Nope. Just nope.
I never thought to that! W
So, I suggest:
- spectral wall (never used= rework or remove?)
– spectral grasp: any suggestion?
- well of darkness (buff or rework)
- signet of calamity (useful but it need more utility in teamwork)
- Corruption abilities: remove auto conditions
(Signet of spite: passive : Improves conditions damages or increase condition duration (replace power)) I’m not sure for this one.
- Rework axe (abilities and animation)
- Rework warhorn
Substitute Death shroud by lich form. Decrease initial damages, conditions or boons. Why am I doing this? Lich form is pretty cool (appearance and abilities) but we can’t use it often (180 second) I think two transformations in elite skill are far too and repetitive. So for me death shroud is underwhelming and I thought replace its abilities by these one:
1/ Deathly Claws
Send out grasping claws to damage your foes. Pierces
2/ Grim Specter
Lose all conditions and send out a claw that explodes at the target area. The claw and explosion rip boons from foes you teleport to that foes and cure conditions on allies. (Like Dark path)
3/ Chilling Wind
Release a freezing wind that chills and pushes back foes.
4/ Fusion Tainted shackles and life transfer with a little nerf
5/ Mark of Horror
Inscribe a mark that summons five jagged horrors when a foe triggers it. (5 horrors maximum, you can’t combine with “Rise!”)
Now, we lack of elite skill? Some possibilities: signet, well, spectral (again)
Get F1:
Death shroud
And F2:
Reaper shroud
Share the same cooldown
What do you think of it? Share what you enjoyed/disapointed/feared the most about this. Thank you for your interest. It’s a pretty long post: I’m sorry ><
(edited by Ashenvall.1564)
F1: Dark shroud
F2: Reaper shroud
Each one shares the same cooldown (cf: elem)
The drill adds Vun which can help with crit if you build into it but it’s the “worst” not bad, but not great.
What do you suggest to improve this?
Frost adds 10% dmg reduction and a DoT
Perfect, with the abilities 1,4 [New] & 5
The only thing I don’t like is the pulse, if they buffed the amount of health you can take from it, might be good as a extra heal but it’s so small, that or if it instead left a poison field. Dark field just seems so out of place for the reaper.
The pulse is original and give a takeover gradual on the ground.
Maybe add a vampiric field like you seem to suggest.
(edited by Ashenvall.1564)
So when you build condition with 20 stacks of bleed = you die
You troll….
yes, i think so. cripple, damage and blind should be enough. having both weakness and blind in one skill is also kind of weird. other than that it’s rather well of darkness that might need a buff
So, I think removed cripple to set up a chilling area. Apply chill but if you go out this area, any chill condition is removed. Like that, I add some damages by masteries (deathly chill, chilling victory), crowdcontrol and counterplay.
It doesn’t really need improvement so much as the top echelons of PvP are all filled with fast characters and people with very fast reflexes and good mechanics to punish low speed or openings.
We could punish fast characters and people with very fast reflexes in counterpart of that (balance begin like that) thanks to huge AOE, debuff, crowd control. Possibilities are limitless.

I’d love greatsword as more of a hybrid weapon.
that being said, the auto attack should probably stick to one or two conditions, not 5. something like torment, torment, chill(+torment).
Gravedigger really just seems to need a slightly faster windup, if it should stay a power weapon. otherwise i agree, some conditions of course.
Death spiral: the blink suggestion is great. besides that i dont think this needs the same effect as you suggest for gravedigger
Nightfall: it’s already a superior well of darkness. weakness AND fear might be over the top. it’s completely fine to have skills that just add utility. no need so slap damaging conditions on every single skill.
“Hybrid weapon” can you specify that?
For death spiral, you are right no need the same effect. I corrected that above.
For nightfall, weakness and fear are far too or not?
No opinion for Grasping Darkness?
Greatsword is a weapon that was added for it’s theme and PvE cleaving, not because it was meant to be useful. Nightfall on it is decent and every other ability would need major changes/replacements for it to become viable in PvP.
I guess for PvE you could just raise numbers and people would cheer and call meta.
I thought to enhance it’s theme in adding some crowd control tools (torment, weakness, fear) and conditions with % threshold.
Maybe replace grave digger by a huge reap in front of you with a faster casting. (Thanatos like in Smite “soul reap”)
For me, when we play with a reaper we have to think: “You are in my claws. No escape!”
Thx. I credited you for this.
So, I like Greatsword’s gameplay but I felt this weapon was too underwhelming or even worst: irrelevant in some situations. I think that will be overpowered but you can comment on what you enjoyed/dissapointed/feared the most about this.
I would like Greatsword be a condition close weapon.
Greatswords skills:
1 Chain.
Dusk strike:
Cleave foes in front of you.
Torment and bleed your foes.(1/1 stack)
Life force: 1%
Fading twilight:
Cleave foes in front of you again.
Torment and poison your foes.(1/1 stack)
Life force: 2%
Frostfire scythe:
Strike foes, chill & burn them.
Life force: 4%
[New value] If the third auto attack is sucessful: Increase attack speed of 5% up to 15%. (3 stacks) Give by Reaper’s onslaught.
=> So, (3/4 second) 0.75*0.85= 0.6375
=> Or, 6% up to 30% (5 stacks) 0.75*0,70= 0.525
2 Gravedigger
Perform a huge swing that deals heavy damage.
Recharges faster if its a downed or low health foe.
When the health treshold is below 50%: Bleed your foes.
When the health treshold is below 25%: Bleed and poison you foes
(Maybe, Increase casting speed or range max)
3 Death Spiral
Conjure a drill of dark energy on your blade. You dash to your foes and rend the armor.
Credits for this idea goes to Zefrost: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM-4UH8t0LU
[New]You cut arteries: bleed your foes.
4 Nightfall
Call down a growing column of shadows that damages and conditions foes every pulse.
[New]Cripple is removed
[New 2] Chill the area for 8 seconds (the area grows after each pulse) but if foes go out of the area: any chill condition is completely removed.
[Suggestion] Vampiric field ?
5 Grasping death
Conjure claws of darkness from the shadows to attack foes, applying a condition to them and pulling them to you.
=> Corrected bugs, especially for collisions…..
Maybe slow down movement speed of 10% when we are attacking due to this huge buff…..
