I agree this would be fun in specific zones with specific goals. A sort of free for all with quests and challenges. Also an arena in every major city for dueling would be fun.

No mounts - I simply don't understand...

I like it the way it is. I never really liked mounts. If the game is design aroung walking (Boons, WP, gates) than there is no need to artificially speed the characters up.

My only worry is that one month in I’m still playing far too much. My apartment is a disaster! Anet should really send someone over to do something about that – they have a responsibility to their customers, after all.

Haha tell me about it ! My playing time is already limited so training and doing the laundry bites the dust !

Sad and chocolate cannot coexist in the same sentence.

Boxing gloves?! How’s that fit in Tyria? Aviator sunglasses? Kttens!

I have to say this one puzzled me. After all the trouble they went throught to make this game immersive and ’’real’’, why throw these immersion breaking trinkets in the mix ? And why would I want to buy those ? To look out of place and ridiculous ? It’s some people’s thing I guess.

Are MMO players trained to play for progression...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astaldo.3081

Astaldo.3081

What really is progression to me is mastering my character to a point where I react to situations instinctively instead of thinking about it. It’s all about understanding its strenghts and weaknesses and use those to my advantage in any given scenario.

Of course stronger gear is alway fun to find but there’s a point, and I think GW2 found it, where gear becomes irrelevant except for looks and War (PvP) becomes the true goal.

I want to fight, bleed and die so I can master my character and become a force to reckon with. That is progression in my book.

I started playing a bit more this past week and I am getting sucked in the more I play.
I spent the last 2 weeks playing around with character creation and leveling characters to level 6-8ish just to get a feel for them and their respective starting zones. I didn’t even cover half of the combinations available.

Character creation is awesome. I could honestly say that I spent a good 20 hours just fooling around with different races/professions/looks. Job really well done on this often overlooked aspect.

The graphics and the art direction is impressive. Just yesterday I took my Norn for a stroll out of Hoelbrak and headed to Lion’s Arch and then Divinity’s reach. 2 words: Jaw dropping. The zones truly feel epic in size and details. Just the fact that I could enter a farmhouse in the field and open and close the doors made me feel all giddy inside. Those are the kinds of details that truly show the devs passion for their work.

All the features: dynamic events, wvwvw, quests, underwater environments (also jaw dropping), living breathing npc’s, coop tagging/nodes/looting/xp, just to name a few are such a breath of fresh air it will be hard to go back to the more traditional mmo’s.

I will stop here before I lose myself and write an essay but to sum it up, it is the first time in a long time that a game truly got to me like GW2 does. I think Arenanet and everyone involved really knew what they were doing and had an idea and a vision for this game and it shows in every pixel of it.

Tldr: I love it.

Just give them time. They will adjust what needs adjusting. They just need more data from live so they can make good balance fixes and not some bandaid stuff that end up breaking something else.

Sound issues (still)

in Account & Technical Support

Astaldo.3081

I have had some similar sound issues. Mainly no sounds when blowing a horn, shooting an arrow and a bunch of situational sounds. Sometimes the sound is delayed, other times there is no sound. Sometimes the sound is fine especially when in combat for a while. When out of combat or just engaging is when it’s worse.

I’ll try toying with the sliders and settings a bit more tonight.

You can use the ‘’look backward’’ and the ‘’face forward’’ keys (dont remember the exact names sry) for quick behind looks. Problem is, with the look behind key you can’t change direction on the fly by pressing the mouse 2/move key so you still need to use the mouse to do a 180 screen pan and then you can change direction instantly or do a180 jump shot/hit.

Anyone having trouble using logitech g13 pad?

Sometimes, I just save my profile and restart the application. It has worked many times for me in other games.

Also make sure that that you are not locked in a profile. When in-game, make sure your G13 LCD shows ‘’guild wars 2’’ (or whatever your profile name) and not some default/other game profile.

Edit: On a side note, after much fiddling with different profiles, I decided to create a single gaming default profile. Now whatver the game I play, I just go into the controls menu and assign the keys accordingly. Much easier and you don’t have to play around with profiles. You just have to spend some time mapping your keys in your G13 app so that they feel comfortable whatever the game.

Indeed !

I haven’t played a lot but my first few sessions have pulled me in instead of turning me away like all those mmo’s since wow.

There is something really artistic and fulfilling about the whole experience. It’s like a little bit of the good from every other rpg’s I like + all the new stuff.

The word cooperation (sharing of nodes and enemies for example) is finally back in mmorpg. Such a simple concept and yet unused in most mmo’s. You nailed it perfectly.

I could go on and on about all the cool little things that I discovered in such a small amount of playtime but I’ll just add one more thing.

Thank you for that breath of fresh air.

I feel you Arch, I spent a couple hours yesterday trying to find an ’’armory’’ for Guild Wars 2’s armor sets.

I guess as time goes on, many more fansites will pop up and we will eventually get everything we need like guides, armor sets etc.

I have to say that I kind of enjoy the lack of information tho, feels all fresh and new =D

Permanent Stow - An Option for Lone Wolves

I agree, the only reason I didn’t roll my favorite class (the ranger) is because of the annoying pet.

Edit: And to the poster above, you are weakening yourself by stowing the pet. What OP asks is an option to not use the pet and scale the ranger’s damage accordingly.
