Up to you in the end. Many ways to skin a cat. Also depends on what spec you end up in point wise, as points in each line also passively increase stat totals quite a bit. I always end up quite a few points in Air traits because I always skimp on Precision/Ferocity and they make up that difference.
Kodiak, thanks for your reply. My Arcana trait-line is the same, but I changed Water a bit. I went for Cleansing Wave (X), instead of Soothing Disruption (IX), works wonders. Also I put the last 2 trait points in Earth and picked up Elemental Shielding (V), instead of Air, just because I wanted a little more toughness and decided to use Travel Runes, hence the Zerk-Valk trinket choice, and perm speed boost.
I used to love running groups through dungeons with the Auramancer build, especially SE, it was a TON of fun. But it hasn’t been any good since they limited Powerful Aura to proccing off weapon skills, which took away Fire’s Embraces interactions. It wasn’t even a popular build, let alone overpowered, there was honestly no reason to nerf it, except maybe the spite the developers seem to have for this class.
To be honest, I kinda loathed the Elementalist at first, but once I grasped it’s playstyle, I fell in love. I do not know how much the class has suffered in the past, but I wish I had started an Elementalist sooner. Better late then never eh?
Wow, thank you all for your replies.
Sorry I neglected to mention why I’d run this build. I have e friend who runs a staff Elementalist, and me being in d/d melee, we have great synergy with our attacks, and we also utilize hard hitting and, if needed, hard healing combos. I honestly don’t care about large group play, and getting yelled at or kicked, for failing to produce an X-no. of damage for being an Ele, or staying in one element almost indefinitely. I like mixing things up and I revel in the results produced with my friend and a small group.
Having said this, I’ve decided to change this build up a bit, and to try and make it more PvE friendlier for me and my friend and when in small groups. So, here goes:
[ARMOR] Full Celestial (exotic)
- either Runes of Strength or Runes of the Pack
[WEAPONS] Berserker Daggers (exotic)
- Sigils of Force and Battle
[ACCESORIES]- Berserker/Valkyrie, 4 stats (ascended)
I would like feedback on this little change and want to know what you all think?
Thank you Black Beard for all your help and tips , I will definitely swap the Air for Earth trait. Definitely more useful to have toughness than a little gust of speed now and then.
Ouch… 87 views and one single reply.
Thank you so much Purple Miku for replying and clearing this issue for me.
Guess it’s either WvW/PvP, or back to burning everything with a Staff in PvE xD
Thanks again for your reply.
Hi everyone
I started playing an Elementalist, and double teaming with a friend’s Ele for just about everything.. He’s playing his Ele with a staff, while I prefer daggers.
I found this great build post September patch. I love the support and style and was wondering if it is still viable or is it changed (and how much). Also, someone in the comments mentioned to use Celestial, instead of Valkyrie Armor.

Also, any helpful hints / tricks are much appreciated.
I’m just curious if a Revenant would be able to equip a Greatsword.
I know it’s a heavy armored shamanistic class, but both Warrior and Guardian are eligible for wielding a Greatsword, and I kinda have this idea to make a Spiritual Sylvari Samurai-ish character with the release of the Revenant class in HoT. I’ve got several armor ideas for her, and Belinda’s GS would fit in so well with my theme.
It seems that everyone likes Dinky.
I’ve read that he’s the funniest pick of the litter and is great as a companion, and I’m almost certain that I’m gonna pick him, but what about Reeva?
Can anyone share their experience with Reeva?
I don’t mind any kind of spoilers, just wanna get the best/ funniest experience with my Charr (like the Drunken Norn story, that was hilarious ).
Okay so I decided to make my first ever Charr.
I’ve decided to play as an Engineer and after reading a lot about the personal story choices I chose to go with an adventurous, scavenger hunt-ish theme for my Charr. I decided to go with the personal story choices:
- Becoming a member of the Iron Legion
- Being sired by a Loyal Soldier
I think these 2 choices fit my adventurous Charr style perfectly.
What I cant decide however, is the warband member for him.
I’m stuck choosing between Reeva and Dinky.
Reeva because her description hints that she uses an engineering belt, hence a fellow Engineer; and Dinky, well… because he’s Dinky xD
So, which is the better warband member according to you guys?
Thanks for the replies everyone
I’ve made up my mind and will make a Charr thief, despite all the stretched textures and clipping on clothes, with an Ash Legion/ Loyal Soldier Sire background (because I read it was adventurous and funny and fitting for my thief) and in the near future, a female Sylvari because of her superior animations over the male Sylvari.
Hi guys,
Here’s the deal. I have a Male Human Thief and I’m absolutely sick of his narcissistic quotes in just about everything… I’m sick of bandits and centaurs in my story!!
I decided on rolling either a Charr or a Sylvari Thief.
So what I want to know is which of these two races is more fit for a Thief?
(Lore wise and Story wise) and why?
On the other hand, which race (from these two) is more fit as a Guardian?
I didn’t want to re-post this in the Guardian section so I’ll add it here.
I’ve been meaning to roll a Guardian in the near future, but not before I correct my mistake scrape my Human Thief for the better of these two?
Any hints, tips, story is appreciated. Don’t mind spoilers.
Hi everyone
I’ve recently returned to Guild Wars after a little timeout.
The reason being my Warrior, I got bored fairly quickly and decided to take some time off.
So, now I started leveling a Thief, with whom I plan to do mostly pvp and wvw.
The thing is I know nothing about this class so I need your help guys.
I’ve got a couple of questions:
• What is the state of the Thief now?
(I heard the class was being nerfed a lot)
• Where is the Thief most welcome?
(in pve or pvp groups)
• What are some good builds to try?
(pve/fracs & wvw, currently viable)
• Is the Thief hard to master?
Lastly, thank you in advance for your feedback guys.
Any hints and tips are much appreciated.
+ I know question no.3 is asked a lot, but I’ve never played a Thief before, I don’t know the class well at all, so I’m sorry if this question upsets or bothers someone. Thanks again.
Hi everyone,
As the title says, I’m a returning player, took a little break, now I’m back.
When I logged in recently, there were a few new changes in-game, including my build. I used Dontain’s Heavy Arms – Tanky/DPS build (loved it btw) and now, with the new patch, it’s kinda messed up. What I’m asking is, can someone post a couple of solid builds used that are used in the new update for warriors, and is there a possibility of getting my old build back and how?
Here is what I used before the update
Dontain’s build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv2ux0GpejM

UTILITY SKILLS
Healing Surge, For Great Justice, On My Mark, Shake It Off, Signet of Rage / Battle Standard
Thanks in advance
I decided to go with the ‘Street Rat’ and man what an early shocker. That was a tough decision to make early on but I’m loving the story atm. Thanks again
I decided on making an alt, a male human Thief, and wanted to give him a fun story. I don’t want to put a Thief in the Big Top, so the Circus story is out.
I was just about ready to make him a Street Rat when some people said the story was dull and they chose the Commoner story instead. I want a fun story, like the Drunken Norn, now that one was hilarious.
So it’s Street Rat vs Commoner for my Thief to be. I want you guys to tell me through your experiences which one is worth it and why? I don’t mind spoilers
Thanks in advance.
