Well, all in all I felt it was alright by comparison to my overall experience to the living story stuff over the past 4 or so years since it started, it was definitely the low-point of this season.

The bloodstone fen release was great, and I still found the ember bay release to be pretty close behind (due to a give and take of problems with the story – mainly that you go to the island, get a sample for taimi, and then suddenly get whisked off on a map-spanning detour that fills up the entire time till aurene hatches) offset by the otherwise enjoyable map design) to be pretty close. But both the story and map fell short this time however.

Map:
Unlike in the previous two maps, there is no super-convenient way of getting around the map, and even running to place to place isnt convenient due to the enemy placement and density around various points (And during the storm phase of the map). It also felt like the map overdid the quaggans by a lot, and a bunch of the stuff kept getting interrupted by overly frequent events. Definitely needed more thermal tubes and a bigger leyline transit loop (As well as easier points of accessing said loop).
HOWEVER – I was pleasantly surprised by the map being not a bland white mass of snow like the original set of maps in the shiverpeaks biome. However, ‘reaching an acceptable level of visual quality’ for a biome type doesn’t count as a pro, its just something that escapes being on the cons list. The requirement to redo the elixer and spend a non-insignificant amount of time each day running around re-farming mob-drops is super annoying, since if you want to access that area, you have to either stock up in advance, or end up having ‘interrupted/wasted’ playtime grinding out a ‘ticket’ to access the area every day.
Best part was the cute gryphons and some of the things to explore off in the corners of the map, nothing even remotely central to the map, but none-the-less nicely done for what they were.
In short, I really enjoyed the other two maps of season 3 a lot more. This one felt decidedly mediocre

Story:
The concept of the first part – teaching aurene – I felt was a nice touch, though a bit poorly implemented (mainly during the ooze phase, which didnt really feel like it conveyed or taught anything valuable other than ‘this is how to fight’ – in fact, it could have been better if said test was introduced as ‘teach aurene how to fight’ without any pretense) – the first test with the fish I felt was the best-done of the 3. An issue with the final ‘boss’ of that sequence was that if a pet-heavy necro goes along, the pets can cause the boss to heal absurdly fast, regardless of the damage they do. Its actually better if that player sits out and gets carried.
The filler ‘explore the map’ portion played worse (much more grindy) than the Ember bay filler, but at least the filler was better justified and sort-of flowed.
The hybridized minion was very underwhelming, for all the build-up that happened.

Braham:
The last part of the story was by far the low point, so much so that it gets its own section in this review. The waves upon waves of veterans and elites was obnoxiously and pointlessly grindy, and I can’t imagine why any of it was needed other than to… have the player do something? They could have been normal mobs, or heck, no mobs at all, and the story would have been better for it, since it would have flowed better, and not repeatedly saving brahams’s rear while he gets more and more irate with the player. Like, I could have seen his temper tantrum being a bit more justified if I hadn’t carried him for the 10th time or something – and through an unnecessarily grindy tunnel. But instead of at least thanking me for my help, he blames me or something pretty much out of the left field. Really? Not to mention alllllll the other things the player does in the story to help carry him and the rest of the NPCs along to slay both prior dragons the he conveniently forgets and drops by the wayside while on his self-righteous and delusional tantrum of misplaced blame. And annoyingly I couldn’t say to Rox ‘Nah, lets ditch him’ and then add braham to my block list. I’ve met three people IRL who exhibited the sorts of behavior pattern braham was showing all have serious mental disorders, and it was just healthier for everyone else to not be around those people. While character development is usually appreciated, now I read Braham as someone who’d probably be better going to court-ordered counseling and therapy twice a week rather than someone who could be heroic but ‘just needs to cool off’.

While I’m not holding my breath for the tengu after, well, pretty much the whole ‘X happened/revealed! Tengu confirmed!’ over and over again and nothing panning out from that, I would for once make a non-charr player character.

I.. didnt have any trouble at all, and I soloed the whole thing. I thought it was a cakewalk, tbh..

As for trolls, I didnt see any, not even the NPC mob variety! Though the separatists and sons of svanir decided to sabotage some bridges the parade was going through X3

Also we need more commander tag colors, so we can do a rainbow next time

It feels like a lot of the people who wanted to vote no ended up arriving to the thread late..

I was actually going to try raiding for once, just to have an option for at least my charr females wearing light and medium armor to show off their fur, but… nope. Not anymore. No real incentive now..

Some love for armor that shows charr fur patterns would be nice… I’d like to show off the time I spent in the charracter generator without having to completely strip down :P – I have 19 charr, 20 slots (1 unused slot, which will be another charr), and unfortunatly, there is a lot of repetition in the armor and outfits they all use.

I know, theres a handful of options for charr in heavy armor, but medium and light? Almost nothing (aside form a few that show belly fur… which lacks patterning…). We really need much, much, more variety for charr. Also less clipping and stretched textures, but I’ll be happy if I can just show off my spots, stripes, or lackthereof with style.

I’ll aim to show up if RL doesnt eat me alive that week, and hopefully it doesnt slip my mind. I can also get my com tag up for it, if needed.

I only play charr, and I have extremely mixed feelings about the light and medium armor. I saw that the change is happening, and, I guess overall, I’m not satisfied.

I hate how there are so few options for both male and female charr that show off the fur pattern. I spend a long time in charracter creation, getting everything nice and right, and its all for nought as there are so few sets that look good for charr that also let me display the fur patterns in any real capacity. To further add to the irony, its the heavy armor sets that have the most options that show the fur patterns off. If it werent for the fact these colors aren’t in the color picker, I could very well just be a pink charr with green polkadots and blue plaid striping under all that armor for all anyone knows. The use of the male humanoid armors for so many charr things just makes the charr armor look bland, boring, and uninspired. Also sometimes just wrong as stretching it around doesnt work right.

So I was actually pretty happy to see that the new armor sets showed some fur. Yes, the boobplates were quite frankly both tacky and out of place, and yes, it was annoyingly gender-restricted, but heck, it showed some fur, such an excruciatingly rare property among armor for charr. (Annoyingly, there are some NPC only clothes and armor for charr that players just cant have which do show off some fur at least. Why can’t we have those as armor options?)

The root of my frustrations over this are a lot deeper than this one set – if there were other, better, non-clipping, boobplateless options readily available for charr, then heck, I wouldn’t have had any reservations about the change.

But as it is, I’m really conflicted. For what its worth, if things do get reconsidered, I’d say ‘no, but get rid of the boobplates, or give us more options to show our fur’

The HoT reveal pulled in nearly 100k viewers at peak iirc. At launch there were around 400k online over the first day. An hour long livestream getting that many compared to the full release day? Not bad at all. Well done Anet!

Honestly the only thing that will be seriously competing for my time personally will be Star Citizen (Proud Javelin owner here. Family org has every ship except the scyth, with me paying for about ~90% of that. …I have a problem.)

Still love GW2 though. Because Charr. And Greatsaw.

I call my 19 (and still growing) slots all ‘Charr slots’ for a reason.

Seems various areas were affected differently. Heavily populated areas had their RP populations diluted across instances, while low population areas had everyone in the same instances.

From what I can tell, it feels like the Black Citadel has only 3-4 instances at peak hours, and drops to maybe 1-2 at low hours. Similar story for other nearby Ascalon maps, so I frequently encounter Charr RPs (And others too who stop by).

Great atmosphere, wish my original server had more RP going on, but it was such a low population one (at least during hours I was awake and playing) that a year into the game seeing anyone on some of the mid-level Ascalon maps outside dungeons or shatterer (Even did the shatterer solo on more than several occasions, thats how empty it was.. Same for claw of jormag) was amazing.

Today I was looking at the LFG tool to see if it was true that people were trying to sell precursors on it. Some of the party ads were so silly, I was sorely tempted to “LF Charr RP” to both poke fun at the other parties and.. to actually have someone to chat with IC. Maybe one day. After some events a couple years back, Im still shy doing what I love most, asking new players in Ashford and Diessa if they need help. Asking people to casually chat in-character together is still… beyond me right now. Let alone approaching hardcore RPers for a chat.

Well, here’s what I got one of my heavy alts – got a cheap pit fighters chest piece for ~70s (thats about 4 unID dyes), and the karma legs from blazeridge (heavy plate set) for less than 400 karma (you can actually run out there at level 2, and get the heart by res-farming dead NPCs that spawn in the area – I’ve done it). Hid the helm & pauldrons, and anything seems to go alright with the hands and feet that I’ve run across so far. Much better than running around in the low level heavy stuff, and I think I like this look quite a bit – plus it only eats 2 Tstones per upgrade.

I have a lot of alts and was wondering what nice sets of armor people could come up with for low-level characters on a budget (lets say… 1g) for any armor classes, use of T-stones is OK, Fine-T-stones are… pushing it.

Have to run out to a midterm, but I’ll get some screens up of what I have come up with later.

Yep, it was mentioned a lot around release… but it never really got fixed and so I guess its just a really low priority for them. :/

well, they could do something like 10% per tier, so 50% for all 5. Or if they were feeling nice, 13% (52/4 = 13)

5 events at your level is ~50% a level (5*10%) – added to the 50% that the dailies themselves provided (4%*(3+4+3+3)=52%) is 102% of a level – add in experience from kills & gathering – yeah, you could level up purely from dailies.

I’ve noticed that accounts of laurel behavior don’t seem to be consistent:

I have 9 alts, and I’m a little put off that all of my alts are calendar gated to item acquisition as a single character would be… if that’s actually the case. However, when I got yesterday’s daily, I got a laurel, which I could then see in all my character’s inventories. Now, I’m not entirely sure, but, this may imply that you automatically get a laurel for every alt… or that its a single account-wide laurel. Has anyone been able to figure out of which this is the case?

On the other hand, I have seen accounts of people’s laurels only showing up on one char, but not the others, so, I’m not sure if that’s a bug or what.

Mostly anyways (you can’t mix and match armor types, but you can at least preview them again). Still, props to anet for getting it working again – now I can resume my quest for some nice medium armor pants.

Of the 8 Charr I have, only one is white:

Main color & Pattern color

[Main] gold & brown; light grey & dark grey; brown grey & dark brown; light grey & light brown; grey brown & dark brown; light grey & black; dark red-brown & black; pure white

And the choice of white coloring is actually related to an old guild in-joke rather than any particular aesthetic choice of my own.

I’ll put up pictures once I actually have the money to afford all the armor skins I’m going to be using (Well, I could if I sold off all my trade assets in one go – all that T3 stuff is expensive >.<, but I’ve only got a small amount of actual liquid assets.), but at any rate I have a total of 7 female charr & 1 male charr & 1 empty slot.

Serpent Eyed – actually its called ‘New Krytan’, which is sort of the standard written language used by all the playable races ( made as popular/wide-spread as it is by the Charr themselves, what with the invention of the printing press).

[New Krytan is furthermore just a replacement cipher of written English. Pretty sure its that way across all language versions, simply because all instances of it are in textures, unless Anet went with region-specific textures for those.]

Those medium armor trenchcoats clip like crazy. IIRC, the vigil medium top also isn’t a trenchcoat.

Of course, now you have to undergo a quest for some good-looking pants, since a lot of them didn’t get particularly interesting textures due to never having been designed to be all that visible.

Something like craftable ascended gear? Well, I doubt it will come quite that soon, but it will eventually.

Also: it appears as though we have reached a new record peak in supply (54K), suggesting that most of the short-term speculated stuff (+ a bit more) since the prior all-time peak (53K) has been dumped back on the market.

The thing to note is that the rate of production of the bots has decreased sharply due to the nerf; there is a large oversupply, yes, and it will be slowly worked through, and most of the ongoing price & supply fluctuations are the result of speculators throwing enormous quantities of them around. Quantities such as 3000-5000 scales at a time, as evidenced by recent activity within the last few hours. Anyone without many hundreds of gold who wants to make a quick profit at this time is basically at the mercy of those speculators.

It started out at zone-crashes this morning for my ranger (all to/from blazeridge), but it eventually cumulated in simply being unable to load her on Blazeridge at all; the client would crash upon doing so. It gave me the option upon restarting to verify the game data, which I did, but that failed to help.

Is there any way to determine if this was a server-side vs. client-side issue?

I don’t think I need to stress how important a resolution to this would be.

Planning on sending a disposable level 2 alt into blazeridge to see if its a problem that is at least linked to the character…

Actually trolls end (yes, the 3rd version of it; thats the exceptionally narrow one) wasn’t even that hard for my main (an 80% height charr); once I figured out where to start, the only bad part was towards the end where the camera decided to completely stop functioning in any sensible manner, and ended up tilted 60 degrees to the floor; other than that, I was at least able to look down to figure out my position. The most frustrating one for me was the vista in the southwest of the eternal battleground, but that’s rather because of wonky collision from the tower extending further out than the model did. Once I figured out that’s what was causing me to continually miss the jump to the first narrow bit of wood sticking out, I got it in a couple tries.

I only sell rares and exotics (That I don’t want to keep) for the most part; I vendor greens and blues as the above poster, and salvage whites that will turn me a profit. Very rarely are there whites or blues or greens that give a well-above-vendor profit. There are some, but they are indeed rare. About as rare as… rares.

And yeah, the total margin you have to make to break even is 15%.

They appear to have a similar droprate to exotics in my experience; you can however get them from certain personal story missions (such as level 10 and level 30)

The design of the maps and the mob density, while it makes plenty sense from a lore standpoint, isn’t something I care for at all. In fact, endgame for me has consisted of: farming Frostgorge, playing the TP, helping out in the lowbie zones; Orr bored me away. The first used to be fine until the post Nov14 DR; the second wouldn’t be so gratingly… out of place… if it were merely a supplemental source of income rather than being the majority of my income lately (as a result of that DR), and the third is enjoyable (and not taxing). I poked around Orr a few times, but its just… not fun. It doesn’t even feel all that dangerous – if I want that, I can do an undermanned dungeon run. With Orr, simply getting through the map feels like a chore, a slog, more of a grind than even farming, probably due to the mobs having absurd amounts of CC in place of direct firepower (ie, young karka) and me having ridiculous defensive stats & full exotic gear. Also admittedly being a warrior probably has something to do with it – the ‘Massive truck in a low speed zone’ comment a few posts up sums it up really well. The fact pretty much all the enemies are risen doesn’t really help make it feel any less of a bore. I could party up and make it more bearable, but it can be hard getting people for that, especially since I usually play during the opposite of peak hours. Waypoints being perpetually contested and thus making that travel-slog mandatory makes the zones quite a bit worse. On top of that, the slog is… unrewarding, and probably dumps an enormous stack of DR on me to boot due to my slow speed through the zones.

Now, there’s probably other ways of actually making it feel dangerous and powerful; having roaming mob-zergs or roaming elites/champs or something like that. Just ideas off the top of my head, no idea how it would actually pan out. But try soloing around in enemy territory filled with zergs and scouting parties in WvW. You’re going to be looking over your shoulder a lot. Not something I’d spend my day doing, but that feeling can be nice for a bit of excitement, and definitely better imo than the current setup.

Also, I personally don’t like the animation & models they have when paired with their speed; otherwise it would be fine (but it would be nice if there were some other high speed mobs other than Risen, for variety’s sake – and the fact its rather odd that only the risen would have such a high speed). Many of them don’t look like they could maintain structural integrity traveling at even normal non-combat velocities, let alone 2-3x that. As it stands, I can’t but help feel it all looks rather silly.

Likely not when a very large number of people started recording these issues; there’s a thread with well over 1000 posts on it in the general forum.

Did they ban a bunch of them recently? Since according to gw2spidy the supply has been dropping off sharply the last couple days, which was soon but not immediately followed by a large spike in price.

it would be nice to have a slot on the hero page or something for an active mini so that you don’t have to worry about constantly redeploying them every time you transition between maps or accidentally depositing it

At least none of the NPCs are as bad as another player using a short recharge shout on auto (or maybe they were mashing the key) while sitting in the LA bank >.>

I thought the chest could only drop a minimum of blues. I’ve gotten all blues before, but never a white from it. Whites will drop from the mobs though.
