Guild
Indoles Justicia [InJu]

About
Our main purpose is to serve as a refuge from the general toxicity and discrimination found in many video game communities. We offer a non-oppresive, open-minded, safer space for all who desire it. We do a little of everything, though mostly focused on PvE content (however we do have a weekly sPvP event) and we do a little RP on the side sometimes. We have no “home world” because we’re not WvW focused and we take members from any server.

How to Apply
Please check out www.indolesjusticia.enjin.com for more information! If you wish to join, you will need to either fill out the application form there under the “recruitment” tab, or send an in-game mail to the guild leader “Azure Moonfire.7493” requesting the mail version of the application (an option we offer for those who would prefer not to have an enjin account)

Activity
We have members who log on at all different times, but we are probably most active on friday and sunday afternoon/evenings, because that’s when we have our fractal day and guild missions, respectively. In general, we’re usually active in the late afternoons and evenings (from the perspective of PST).

Why are MMO characters called "toons?"

It isn’t so much a case of it being ‘short for cartoon’, as a play on words. The short form of character is ‘char’, and ‘toon’ is in reference to that. A weird sort of rhyming slang if you like.

I believe this explanation to be the most apt.

I also believe that anyone under 30 won’t like the term as much… In a way, it is making light of the whole phenomenon of gaming and avatar representation in a virtual environs. Younger people (under 30) take gaming far more seriously, and for some, it is their only form of interaction with people of their own age and may be their sole current source of sociological growth and experience – so to make light of that – will feel ‘insulting’ to them.

Judging from the responses above of “hating the term” by the ‘younger’ crowd, I believe what I have inferred above to be correct, so far…

Erm, I’m 41.

To be fair, you’re just one person. To really test this hypothesis, we’d need to do a large-scale clinical study.

Because that will definitely happen.

Why are MMO characters called "toons?"

Since so many people are stating their preferences, I will say this:

I honestly just say “character.” I don’t really like “toon” either and it’s use bugs me a bit, but I was curious where it came from. “Char” seems fine as an abbreviation because in game chat you don’t need to waste time typing out the whole word “character.”

And what’s wrong with “alt?” Isn’t it just short for “alternate?” I refer to the characters who I play less often as my “alts” and to my two max-level characters as my “mains.” I thought this was relatively universal.

Why is there still no dueling?

Azure Moonfire.7493

Simplest answer I can give is that it just isn’t as high a priority as other things we have been working on.

Why do you feel custom arenas do not work for those that want to duel?

Not sure if you are still collating feedback or if anyone has already stated this (even if they have it bears repeating because it’s a big detail that I’m surprised people aren’t mentioning) but I think the biggest, most glaring issue with relying on custom arenas for dueling is that you have to pay for them. Even if you save gold to convert to gems or use glory instead, it still seems awfully annoying to have to continuously pump currency into the arena. A simple duel-anywhere system would be fantastic, not only for testing builds as some have said, but for passing the time, settling rivalries, and roleplaying.

Regardless, keep up the great work! GW2 is an amazing game all around.

if you are already dueling what the point?

Like the OP said, we have to go to a specific place, Obsidian Sanctum JP in WvW, and go to this one arena area, hope we aren’t ganked by trolls and that there’s actually other people there, and then hope that they are also there to duel and understand what it means when you “/bow” to them.

Oh, and you can only duel people from one of the two servers currently battling yours. That means if a friend you’ve always wanted to have a duel with is on the same server as you, you will never get to do that. A friendly, request-based duel system usable anywhere would solve those issues.

There’s hate towards dueling? I didn’t realize. I would think everyone would like to have the feature, and I agree that it is sorely lacking from the GW2 experience.

We do have custom arenas of course, but annoyingly, you have to pay for those. I support the inclusion of a free, spontaneous friendly dueling system in PvE.

For those who don’t like the idea for whatever reason, there could be a toggleable setting in the options menu to opt out of all duels, so that you wouldn’t need to hit “decline” all the time, and people couldn’t challenge you in the first place.

But how am I supposed to know when the game doesn’t even allow you to communicate properly?

Waving seems to be the relatively universal medium for conveying non-hostility. I wave at “enemies” and if they wave back, I know they’re probably not going to attack. It’s not foolproof, of course, because yeah, someone could turn on you later, but it’s at least something.

Anyway, like I said before, even if I don’t like it, I don’t hate people who attack me in OS for the most part, so you can go on attacking people if you like and I won’t begrudge you for it. I’ve given my reasons for disliking it, and you may consider them if you like or ignore them.

I’ve had experiences like this but what got me posting was how attacking an enemy player in a PvP environment is defined as “trolling” in your post and apparently is regarded as something despicable by many other posters.

Mmmh.

Well, it’s not “despicable,” and to be honest I can’t really blame them for it, because the game was built to allow it to happen. I know that it’s not inappropriate behavior, it just feels very un-sportsmanly (particularly when killing players who are almost to the end of the puzzle and just want the dang achievement) to me. However, I don’t get too mad when someone does attack me because, as you say, it is a PvP area.

However, the fact that it’s an area pretty much dedicated to a JP, and most people just want to do the puzzle and mean you no harm, it feels somehow “wrong” to attack them.

I dunno, maybe I’m too soft-hearted. Regarldess, you speak the truth; it is a PvP area, and I don’t hate anyone who attacks me there.

They should add a non – hostile mode, similiar to the “Away/Online/Invisible Statue” window. This would put a white dot above your character designating yourself a non threat.

I think this would be exploited.

Depends on how it was implemented. If it were only useable in the actual JP area, and it both made you immune to damage and unable to enter combat yourself, it could work. Especially if it wouldn’t let you leave the mode until you exited the puzzle area.

To those who have had only/mostly bad experiences in OS: I’m honestly very sorry to hear that. I do wish more people were friendly, but there will always be some bad apples.

To those who have had similar experiences: Isn’t it great? While I certainly don’t advocate for the game to allow PK-ing in PvE zones or anything, friendliness and cooperation seem to mean even more when people could attack, but choose not to, as Danikat said. For that reason, I’m actually kind of glad places like OS exist, although I do like the suggestion of making it non-hostile one day per week. It would certainly make it less obnoxious to get the achievement if you’re having troll problems.

I was in Obsidian Sanctum, in the starting area, when I ran into an Asura from Crystal Desert (I’m from Sanctum of Rall). She (referring to the character’s gender; I have no idea what the gender of the player was) just waved and sat down. She was joined by a norn, also from Crystal desert, and all they did was sit for awhile, dance, and just basically hang out for a few minutes. I dueled with one of them (bowing first, of course), she won, but didn’t finish me and let me rally. Afterward, I put out a box of fun, but sadly, it didn’t work for some reason (unusable by “enemies?”) so I shrugged, we stood around for a bit, and they waved goodbye before proceeding to the jumping puzzle.

I just thought that was really cool. We could have attacked each other at any moment, but they were pretty chill. Anyone else have an experience like this in WvW jumping puzzle areas? I think it’s really neat how people who are branded “enemies” by the game, and can’t communicate with each other besides emotes, would choose to be nice instead of troll, since they were all just here for the puzzle anyway. Restores a little bit of faith in humanity, if I may say so.

Also, if you were recently playing an Asura (thief? I forget) or a Norn Mesmer, and remember a Sylvari Elementalist in Legacy armor with purple leaf-hair that you interacted with as described above, I’d love to hear from you. I enjoyed our brief encounter.

In America yes, but nude beaches in foreign countries exist because they do not view nudity as sexual

Yeah, I hear some countries in Europe even have co-ed changing rooms, and no one freaks out or thinks it’s a big deal. The U.S. (where I’m from) can seem a bit prudish sometimes…

Also if memory serves, we do have a few nude beaches in the US, but most people here view them as “sexy” places that you go to to gawk at each other, because of, again, how we’ve socially constructed the idea of nudity being shameful and/or sexual.

Regardless, sorry for off-topic-ness. Again, I support the option to hide boots, especially for Asura.

The underclothes will never be toggleable due to the game’s Teen rating.

I’m not saying they should be, just that I see no moral/ethical reason they shouldn’t be, but then I understand that view is not shared by all and many people do view nudity as inherently sexual, because that’s how it’s socially constructed to be viewed.

I know that will never happen, and I’m not advocating for it anyway, I was just using it as an example to illustrate a point.

I am on the NA server “Sanctum of Rall,” though considering the announcement on how guilds are going to change I imagine it doesn’t really matter which server I’m on as long as I join a NA-based guild? Or at least it won’t matter for much longer?

Anyway, I’m in a small guild with some irl friends and that’s not going to change, but I’d like to have the large guild experience as well. I’d like to join a casual guild without representation or activity requirements; the kind of guild that exists to connect players together when they want to play, but doesn’t pressure anyone to do more than they want to do. I am totally willing to represent the guild I join when I am actually questing/running dungeons, etc. with that guild, but I will be representing the guild I founded with a friend pretty much the rest of the time, or at the very least when I am doing activities with them.

Reply here or send me a message if:

  • Your guild is at least somewhat active
  • Your guild is fairly large (at least 10 members I’d say). The whole reason I’m looking to join another guild is because mine is so small.
  • You do guild missions. They look fun and I want to start saving up commendations, but it’s taking ages for my guild to get enough influence to start.

DO NOT bother trying to recruit me if:

  • You have a 100% representation Requirement. No way am I going to stop representing my own guild at least half the time.
  • You have any kind of activity requirements. Video games are for having fun, and I log in when I can/want to, and I do as many dungeons and such as I can/want to. I will quit your guild outright if you start telling me that I “need” to be more active in whatever area.

I agree.
Also, I daresay that they shouldn’t be obtainable for gold. There should be a way to earn them that’s more related to what they’re actually intended to be used for. I’m not sure how that would work exactly, but the current method for obtaining them is just silly.

Didn’t they already state that this was coming in the next update?

Did they? If so, I haven’t heard, but it’d be a welcome change.

After the fight s/he said s/he enjoyed it much more that way even if it seemed to take longer.

Totally irrelevant to the topic at hand, but I just wanted to commend you for your egalitarian choice of words. Most people I run into in the gaming world tend to assume all players are male until told otherwise, so it’s cool to see someone else who doesn’t make unwarranted assumptions.

Back on topic: I also prefer to run dungeons without stacking; it is indeed way more fun. I’m lucky enough to have a group of irl friends I play with who feel the same way. To the OP, I’d suggest maybe finding a group of people who like the non-stacking way, who you can group up with on a regular basis? Maybe even start/join a guild with that idea?

Being able to hide armor in battle is silly, yes. But its important in roleplay. I still think it should be everyone’s choice, its an MMO, not a nanny.

People already do it anyway they just accept the armor loss.

I actually agree; I see no reason why people shouldn’t be able to hide all their armor if they so choose.

In fact, I honestly see no reason why the underclothes shouldn’t be hide-able as well, nor do I see any reason why there shouldn’t be anatomically correct nude character models underneath the armor, because the un-covered human form isn’t inherently sexual or shameful, we’re just socialized to see it that way. However, I realize that most people, with the exception of naturists/nudists, probably wouldn’t agree with that sentiment, and such a move on ANet’s part would not go over well at all and be mis-interpreted all over the place (OMG, GW2 is like totally a porn game!), so I’m not actually suggesting that. Just thought I’d bring it up as a response to some people I see complaining about players running around in underclothes in the game (my point is I don’t see this as a problem).

Back on topic though: As far as RP is concerned, doesn’t it make sense to accept the armor loss in combat anyway? If you’re roleplaying a character who, I dunno, got attacked in his/her sleep before having a chance to get dressed, it makes perfect sense to be more vulnerable, even if still able to fight.

make warriors banners/ eles owners only

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure Moonfire.7493

Seems to me there’s a simple solution to these problems: toggle-able options. Warriors and Elementalists should be able to set up their abilities so that either anyone can pick up summoned objects, only party members can, or only they can.

Really, arguing for keeping it the way it is or changing it completely seems odd to me. Obviously, there are some problems with the system as it is now (Eles who want to use both summoned weapons in turn having one stolen, Warriors having their banners taken for no good reason), and obviously, the changes suggested by the OP would create entirely new problems (Eles who want allies to be able to use their weapons not being able to do so [the skill kinda was designed for that purpose], warriors who rely on party members to transport banners, etc.)

So Anet, please allow player control over who can use player-summoned items.

Anyway, I don’t expect something like this will be included anytime soon, but I would enjoy it if it was.

Also, not really a “solution,” but if you like the idea of hair streaks, you should make a Sylvari if you haven’t already. With glow intensity turned to maximum, most of their hairstyles have “streaks” or “highlights” in the form of glowy regions.

I agree with the OP. Un-bind ascended mats and, if I may be so bold, ascended gear.

If we are to play the game the way we want, we should be able to grind for gold and use said gold to purchase ascended gear rather than being forced—if we want ascended stuff—to grind for mats and spend way too much time in the crafting menu. I personally find crafting (with the singular exception of cooking) to be incredibly dull, and would much rather just play the game, slowly accumulating gold, and eventually buy ascended stuff on the TP. For a game that advertises as letting every player play the way (s)he wants, this should be an option.

Why isn't there Pact Armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure Moonfire.7493

Azure Moonfire.7493

I’d have mixed feelings on this.

The pact is founded on the idea of disparate groups (vigil, priory, whispers, others) coming together under a single banner but maintaining their individual identities.

I think it would be cooler if vigil, priory and whispers armor models had an option to include some kind of “badge” that showed their allegiance to the pact. Or maybe a back item? Point is that uniform armor models for everyone would homogenize the three distinct orders, which isn’t really the point of the pact IMO, so something that showed their unity while maintaining unique looks for each order would be cool.

Wall of text incoming: Apologies for my over-verbose-ness.

Thank you all for the comments! Many of you are reminding me of reasons I love the game that I had forgotten about, or demonstrating entirely new ones to me.

Another thing I haven’t mentioned is the class system. As a couple people have already brought up, I personally am glad that there is no trinity, because it makes everyone more versatile without totally sacrificing a given profession’s uniqueness. I’ve noticed when running dungeons that virtually any combination of professions can get it done (even five of the same profession, which is kind of hilarious), but the fun part is that each different combination requires a different strategy, because, again, professions are unique despite the lack of a “trinity.” The differentiation of classes keeps it fun and varied, while the removal of a need for extremely rigid roles mages LFG loads easier, and makes it so you and your friends don’t have to pick classes specifically to fit the trinity roles; you can just pick the ones that appeal to you most and it will work out—you will develop a unique strategy with your friends if you play often enough with them, in my experience.

The other thing is that a sort of quasi holy trinity does happen often, it’s just that many professions can fit more than one role depending on what’s needed. Guardians are very good a being tanks, but can also be supplementary healers. Elementalists with staff+water attunement are very good at party healing but can also switch to fire for heavy DPS, air for control or earth for DOT. Rangers with a bear pet can use their pet to tank, but the ranger him/herself is mostly DPS, and everyone is a secondary healer for themselves because of personal heal spells, just to give a few examples of what I mean.

And that’s only scratching the surface. The different roles each profession can fill and the way they fill them can be exciting to discover. I really enjoy running a dungeon with a mix of professions I haven’t done it with before and working out a strategy that makes it work. The fact that roles are dynamic, rather than static (in a trinity system, you’d have one defined role to play and that’s it, but in GW2 your role is flexible and can change) adds a very strategic challenge to GW2 that isn’t present in most MMOs.

Now, I realize that I stated very clearly that this wasn’t a thread to start arguments, so I do apologize if this seems antagonistic to those who like the trinity system. Bear in mind that I have nothing against you if you have fun in that system, and there are plenty of games (WoW, for instance) that you can enjoy the trinity system in, and you should do whatever is fun for you (video games are about having fun, after all). Personally, I find it like a breath of fresh air that there is no trinity in GW2.

Azure Moonfire.7493

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a thread to discuss problems with GW2. I am not against such discussion, and I myself participate in it, but there are other threads for that sort of thing (so many of them…).

I have recently been thinking about how the whole reason I started posting in the forums was because I was annoyed about something in the game and wanted to complain. Now, mind you, I am not retracting any previously made points I’ve made, because nothing is perfect and I think they are valid complaints, but it did get me thinking about how I should acknowledge all the things about this game that I love, since there are so many more of those than there are things I dislike.

So this is a thread to post the things about GW2 that you find awesome, whatever that means for you. Developers: I’d love to hear from you as well, not just with what you find fun from a player’s perspective, but also what you enjoyed about the design process.

I’ll start with a few of my favorites:

  • Leveling: It takes less time than other MMOs while still taking long enough for it to feel like an accomplishment to max out a character’s level. Quests—renown hearts, personal story quests and dynamic events alike (I consider all three to be different types of “quests”)—are fun and very rarely tedious.
  • Group play: Little things like boon skills automatically affecting nearby players—even if they’re not in your party, static resource nodes that can be mined by every player once, generous and equal exp. distribution to all players who sufficiently damaged an enemy, and a whole host of other features that make spontaneous cooperation possible, benificial and frequent, are fantastic. I still, to this day, remember the first time I participated in a dynamic event and found several other players just naturally gravitating to the area as we—complete strangers—almost effortlessly collaborated for mutual gain; I was amazed.
  • Transmutation: Yes, the fact that it is, and still will be after the april 15 update, pay-to-change rather than pay-to-unlock, is annoying, and I still hope ANet hears the player base and changes that (please do not start an arguement about that here—there are other threads for that). HOWEVER, the fact that it exists at all is honestly fantastic. Other MMOs would have you wearing the armor with your preferred stats and just having to deal with the appearance, whether you liked it or not. Such MMOs would also have you looking identical to anyone else who preferred the same stat combo you did. Even with it’s flaws, the existence of a transmutation system allows you to have both the stats you need for your build and the look you prefer for your character, and that is awesome.

There is a lot more I could say, but then there would be little left to talk about. Tell me what you love about the game! Let ANet know that, while nothing is perfect and we’d appreciate their continued improvement upon the game based on player feedback, they’ve made a pretty awesome and groundbreaking game here! I daresay they deserve some recognition for that.

tl;dr: This is a thread for posting reasons why you love GW2/things that make it awesome. Please do not use this thread for complaints about the game; there are other threads for that.

Having said that, it seems to me both in-game and here in the forums, the majority are enjoying ANet’s little side trip into Silly Land.

That’s honestly great, and I’m glad those people are enjoying it.

I myself enjoyed it for a bit, and had a good laugh, but I’d like an option to toggle it off now. Let those who like it leave it on and those who don’t turn it off….

When can we get real features?

Don’t you think it’s a little early to be complaining about this? The game is just nearing two years old. To compare, WoW didn’t get it’s first expansion pack (which is basically what you’re asking for: level cap extension, new explorable areas, new classes/races, etc.), the burning crusade, until WoW had been live for almost three years. Granted, they announced it before then, and it is weird that ANet hasn’t even mentioned ideas on an expansion yet, but I seriously doubt they would honestly make an MMO on this scale and then just never release anything analogous to a true expansion.

Patience is a virtue. I’m sure it’s coming at some point, so don’t freak out because it’s not here RIGHT NOW.

This joke is honestly great, and I laughed.

But It needs to be toggle-able…

Yeah, it’s a bit annoying.

Honestly, I think it’s a hilarious joke, and I lol’d when I saw it, but I wish it were toggle-able. I really don’t want to deal with this all day….

It’s like, “haha, good one Anet! Everyone’s a bobblehead! That’s great…”

1 hour later: “Okay…joke’s over…can I play the game like normal now please?”

I can’t take my personal story seriously.

Future plans for Hall of Monuments?

I’d like to see something cool there for non-GW one players, as an incentive for everyone to check the place out. Mind you, I’m not saying that unique rewards should be made available to all; that would upset a lot of the veterans. But I’ve been there (and I’ve never played GW 1) just to see what it was like, and I thought it was a really cool, intriguing place, but yes, it’s mostly empty space.

It would be cool if the place was made into a repository of information for those curious about the events of GW1. The ghosts in the front had some interesting info, but not very much of it. I’d like to see more of that. Maybe books/plaques/tablets scattered around that told of Tyrian history? Would be interesting.

Also, get rid of the need for an inventory space filling item to go there. Just allow people to travel there at will after talking to the vendor that sells them.

why do you suddenly find paying for transmutation abnormal?

Actually, this is a misunderstanding. I should have been more clear about what I meant; I apologize.

To clarify:
1. I don’t “suddenly” find it abnormal, I’ve thought for a long time that it should be different. The new “wardrobe” made a lot of people think it was going to be different until they read about transmutation charges and were disappointed.

2. The fact that transmutation exists at all is fantastic and is one of the reasons GW2
is so progressive and awesome. We’re just saying that, while it’s better than other MMOs, the transmutation system is still flawed and is not enough for a game that claims to be revolutionary.

3. All the changes that will be made in the wardrobe are things I’m honestly excited about. I will continue to advocate for a “pay to unlock” system rather than a continuation of the current “pay to change” system, but even if that does not happen I am excited about the way in which the wardrobe will make it easier to find gear skins you like. I am not bashing the April feature pack, just suggestion that, in addition to the other changes they’re making, ANet should take this opportunity to finally fix the annoying transmutation system that, in my opinion, has always been a bit broken.

Except that people were always using stones to change the look. Now you suddenly find paying to change your look abnormal?

What people? Most people used enough crystals to change their look once, into their desired look, and then left it alone because swapping all the time would be insanely expensive.

Also, please read previous posts:

I still haven’t seen anyone say they go through Transmutation Crystals to constantly swap looks. I’ve seen plenty of people say they would unlock skins though. Maybe you will, but you’ll certainly be in the minority.

As for this:

all your asking for is for transmutation to be made free.

Not free, pay to unlock. We’d just like to not have to pay every time we change. Changing back to previously used skins, like putting back on that t-shirt you wore last week, should not cost additional charges.

1. If you actually believe that Anet is going for a worse option to get less money because they are idiots, you should re-think it. If they chose this, it means, they have predicted they will get more profit and as mentioned, I believe in a company full of professional people than players giving economic lessons to the company, cause even if the company is trash, they probably know how to make most money.

2. No announcement there about the charges only being obtainable from the store. You are just assuming.

Fair enough. I don’t presume to know more about economics than the professional staff at ANet, but being in touch with what the players want and are willing to pay for is another matter entirely. People are unpredictable and unique, and I think the players themselves have a better idea of what they will or won’t pay for than ANet does. After all, these are our wallets we’re talking about, and WE are in control of whether we empty them into ANet’s pockets or not. So I don’t dispute that they’re making a well reasoned professional economic decision, I just dispute that they know exactly what their player base, who has free will and all, is willing to pay for.

And you’re right, I am assuming the charges will be obtainable only (with the exception of map completion and BL chests) through the gem store, just like the current stones and crystals. I see no reason or evidence to assume the charges will be different, but if they are that will be a welcome surprise.
