Here’s my mesmer, Gemini Man!

Maybe this is completely out there, but would it help to have sword 3’s projectiles pierce targets? While it wouldn’t add much damage-wise to a single target, it could allow for some interesting synergy with the Justice passive (more hits = more procs). Or maybe have the projectiles explode and hit adjacent targets on impact?

Just throwing ideas other than just “more damage” that might add some more depth to the weapon.

I definitely like the idea of it triggering a Block for projectiles instead of just destroying them outright.

I kinda did a healthy mix of both!

I’m wearing Power/Vitality/Toughness armor that I got from doing AC, and runes that let my shouts cleanse a condition (can’t remember the name, sorry). Then I went with Berserker weapons and trinkets so I would still do decent damage.

I generally picked traits that gave more cleanses and boons to allies since that tended to be an issue with my group in dungeons.

As far as weapon rotations go, I usually go with some sort of melee weapon and some sort of range so if I need to dodge away to heal or anything I can still be doing some form of damage or support. I actually carry one of each weapon type with me since each one has its uses, but for general play I usually go with GS/Staff.

Thanks for the input! My co-worker helped build my pc and he and I both agreed that Overclocking just wasn’t worth risking the longevity of the machine. Though I’ve read that the motherboard I have has a feature that can automatically do it. Reviews state that this feature is pretty stable, but I’ll have my co-worker take a good look at everything to make sure nothing is being over clocked.

I did see that post before making this topic (failed to mention that above. sorry! XD).

Disk check says everything is fine! And I ran the repair each time it crashed (the actual repair, not just verifying the archive), but the problem persists.

My co-worker knows quite a bit about computers, so I’m going to have him take a look at the error log and see what he makes of it too. I just wanted to post this to see if anyone could point us in the right direction before I took up too much of my co-worker’s time.

Hello! I’ve been having a lot of crashing issues lately involving corruption of the MainCli.cpp file. It was suggested to me to do a fresh re-install of the game, so after letting it install while I was at work, I come home to find that I can’t even load into the game without getting the game to crash with the same corruption error. (before I could maybe get 30 minutes of play time after running -repair)

I’m not sure if it’s a problem on the clients end or with my pc, but I’ve attached the error logs in hopes of getting some answers. I tried to submit a support ticket but when I tried to recover my username and password I would never receive the e-mail for the password reset. So here I am on the forums!

Any incite is much appreciated! Thanks for your time!

Hey all!

I’ve been playing GW2 since beta, and have recently gotten my wife in to it. Since this is my wife’s first venture into PC gaming, we’ll be sticking with PvE for now, but will likely branch out to WvW once she’s got a good grasp of the controls.

We usually play in the evenings EST and are looking for a casual guild to hang with while we go for map completion. I’d also love to start learning dungeons whenever I’m on without her. I’ve run AC quite a few times but have quickly learned that having a coordinated group makes it a much more enjoyable experience. XD

I focus mostly on PvE. I have to 100% every map I’m in and at the same time continue to perfect my skills and dominate every dungeon with my guildies.

At least that’s what I’d like to say. Most of the time I’m like Morrigan though and get easily distracted by everything happening around me at the time! XP

I also obsessively collect everything and have taken to using my guild’s bank to dump off extra crafting materials I don’t have space for. No one’s allowed to touch it, of course. This is just for viewing pleasure.

I also have tons of dyes and probably spend way more time than I should playing with different color combos. XD

I’ve got a Razer Naga too. I’ve pretty much kept all of the keys at default except for weapon swapping. I assigned that to one of the buttons below the mouse wheel. (can’t remember what number button that’s considered. lol).

I even stuck with double-tapping for dodges (I know, I’m weird).

I’m a sucker for blue, so I really like that. Are the arms and boots a different color though? That’s probably the only thing I’d change if that’s an option.

You can, but you won’t be able to always stay in the thick of things. Particularly in the first half of your leveling experience.

The starting zones are easy enough. MH sword does good damage, and Blurred Frenzy will keep you from getting hit while dishing out a bit of damage. But you’ll need to back out while that is on cool down. Staff is your best defense option. So you can swap to that, throw down a Chaos Storm, then Phase Retreat out of it for the bonus Chaos Armor.

From my experience, I’ve pretty much stuck with Sword/Focus ever since I got that Clone on Dodge trait (becomes available at lvl40). This allowed me to keep enough clones out that I could either shatter as soon as 3 are up, or keep them up to distract enemies. If the enemy manages to stay focused on me, I swap to staff and play keep away until Illusionary Leap and Blurred Frenzy are off cooldown.

You specifically mentioned traps, which are only dropped at your feet unless you’re traited to be able to throw them (assuming you are referring to a Ranger. Not sure if such a trait exists for Thief). Have you tried using Longbow skill 5?

I’ve never encountered a bug with the ground targeting. So I’m not sure what you could do to fix it if it really is bugged. Just trying to troubleshoot the issue for you while you wait to hear back from support.

Do you mean Ranger traps? This may sound silly, but you’re sure you have the trait that makes them ground targeting equipped?

Yeah. Hope it works out for ya! I personally don’t mind the pets, but I do find myself stowing them now and then when I’m not in combat. Especially if I’m using the bear.

This is gonna be a long one. Fair warning!

Mesmer is my main, but I’ve also played around with a Ranger quite a bit. Both are quite capable in the right hands. While I won’t say which you should definitely pick, I’ll just address your conflicting points and maybe that can help you decide. (Keep in mind that I mostly do PvE)

For the Ranger, if the pet is the biggest concern, you could try using a ranged pet. While they will still follow you around, it may help as far as not needing to manage it quite as much. Or perhaps try equipping the smaller, less distracting pets. You never know, after you use them for a bit you may become accustomed to them and start experimenting with all of the pets. Just keep in mind that even though you don’t have to build around it, pets can still offer some great utility and should not be taken for granted.

As far as being desirable in end-game goes, I can’t offer a ton of input. I’m working on going through all of the dungeons right now, and while I’ve never turned away a Ranger, I have seen both good and bad ones. But the same can be said for all professions, so I don’t think it’s really all that fair to single them out.

I seem to recall a lot of negativity towards Engineers too, but I ran through AC with 2 of them in my party recently and I only had to rez one of them, and only once.

For the Mesmer:

A lot of the issues you have can be addressed as you level your Mesmer. There is a major trait that produces a clone when you dodge, so managing clones is much less involved as you can easily have 3 up at any time.

A lot of the utilities are not extremely useful right off the bat, but as you encounter stronger enemies, they will use tactics that Memsers will have specific counters for. I personally swap utilities all the time depending on who I’m facing. I don’t use Mantras a lot, but I will occasionally equip them if it works best at the time.

You are right about the F1-F4 Skills. I use F1 constantly, sometimes F2 if the enemy attacks frequently, but rarely use F3 of F4. But it’s nice to have them there if you need’em.

As far as weapons go, (and this can be said for any profession) the important thing is to figure out what the purpose of that weapon is. For Mesmer, you can equip a close range sword. Which sounds weird since you’re in light armor. Why put yourself in harm’s way, right? But if you look at blurred frenzy, you can see that you can be invulnerable while laying out some heavy damage. Then if you look at you’re #3 skill, you can send a clone out to cripple you’re enemy if they try to get away. But wait! Once your clone has reached it’s target, press 3 again and you’ll swap places with him and immobilize anyone adjacent to you, possibly setting up multiple enemies for blurred frenzy.

I’m just working off of memory, but this is kinda close to how my Mesmer looks right now. My general approach is rather similar to Curunen, but instead of hanging back with the GS I get up close and personal with the Sword/Focus. The staff is mostly used to get some breathing room while still keeping pressure with conditions. Then I throw down a Chaos Storm and I-Leap/Swap for the combo.

I really like this set up because it allows a high amount of flexibility. I can easily swap major traits in the Chaos and Illusion lines if I want to focus a little more or less on conditions.

Asura Mesmer. My buddies don’t have the patience to level one, so I enjoy being able to bring something unique to our team dynamic. And I chose Asura because I love their animations!

I recently finished leveling a Warrior that focuses on bleeds, and that’s been a really fun change of pace, so I’ve been playing the two evenly lately.

eh… I have double tap to dodge on and can’t recall having problems with jump puzzles. I’m not going to say I’ve NEVER dodge rolled off an edge, but it’s very few and far between. Holding right and left click will let you move forward while controlling the camera and allow you to creep forward if you’re trying to position yourself. That’s helped me a lot.

I’m just so used to double-tapping to dodge that I don’t feel like retraining my reflexes.

Starting Saturday morning (EST), the Underground Clown Brigade [UclB] will be activating our guild’s PvE boosters. Any and all players are invited to join in and take advantage, whether you’re looking for a guild to join or just want to hang out and level for a bit. All we ask in return is that you party up with other guild members as much as you can to help us build influence to host more of these weekends!

Our guild is still growing, so we haven’t been able to upgrade the maximum roster size, but if we have a good turn out for this we’ll make upgrading that a priority for future events. Message or whisper me in-game for your guild invite!

When I first started playing I was really torn between Guardian and Mesmer. After playing them both equally for a while, I decided to stick with Guardian to level 80. Things went very well! I took my first steps into dungeons and didn’t feel like I was too horrible.

But then I just got an urge to continue my Mesmer and quickly forgot about my Guardian. I would eventually like to get all of the professions to 80, but if I team up with anybody be it for dungeons or WvW, it’s gotta be as my Mesmer.

A couple of my guildies have rolled power focused Warriors, so just for variety I decided to take a different approach with mine and build to maximize bleeds. I absolutely love it so far (almost level 60), but completing heart quests that involve destroying objects takes so long!! XD

I decided to use some Power focused trinkets just to give me that extra “umph” I need to make breaking objects bearable.

You get a little experience for each waypoint, poi, etc. Plus a little chunk when you 100%. I haven’t done math or anything, but I think you could at least level once or so just from running around a city. So if you do it for each one that’s potentially 6 levels?

Something like that.

Pretty much everything rozcinana said, with the addition of getting 100% completion in the big cities. There’s quite a bit of experience in those cities just for running around.

Yeah, it happened to a buddy of mine when were running through AC with a PUG. One of the guys started flirting with his female Elementalist. Not helping the situation at all, I proceeded to refer to him as a girl for the rest of the night! XD

I’ve been trying out all of the professions, but I mostly play with my adorable Asura Mesmer. Love those animations!

I third Mesmer. I’ve played a few other professions to 80 but none have felt as fun or as satisfying to me as my Mesmer.
Almost every utility skill we have will be useful to you and your party at one point or another, so it’s fun to switch things around in between fights to fit the situation.

I agree completely. I feel like before I’d drop money every couple of weeks for the next new game. Ever since this came out I haven’t really gotten anything else. And since there’s no subscription fee I really don’t have a problem with dropping the occasional $10 for whatever is on sale in the gem store or for just that bit of extra gold I needed for that T3 Cultural armor.

Some folks I talk to like to give me a hard time about it but then I put on my “hater blocker” aviators and suddenly I can’t see them! XD

I think if you open the list of servers from the log-in screen it should give you an option to guest to a server instead of paying to change home worlds. I think you are limited to only having 1 or 2 servers in total you can guest on per week (to prevent people from jumping around to each one back to back).

That doesn’t sound very fun.

Yeah, maybe guest over here with me and see if it’s to your liking? As I understand it, Tarnished Coast has a pretty large population (if not THE largest), so you could try there too.

I can’t speak for all servers, but I’m on Sorrow’s Furnace and it always feels pretty active when I play in the evenings (I’m on East Coast). Map chat isn’t always booming in any given area (with the exception of lower level areas and Lion’s Arch of course), but I don’t ever feel like I’m completely alone.

I really only played GW1 a bit to tie me over until the release of GW2. (had the game for a really long time, but just couldn’t get into it for some reason)

Anyway!

GW1 – Went with Necro/Mesmer. Didn’t get incredibly far but there seemed to be pretty good synergy with their skills.

GW2 – Decided to go with Mesmer. I love the illusion and trickery concept about them.

I’m always down for teaming up with folks! I’m on most evenings and live on the east coast.

I do have a couple of guys that I team with regularly from the guild I’m in, so I’d rather not guest servers, but I wouldn’t mind doing it if those guys aren’t on.

If you go to your home city there should be a portal that takes you to Lion’s Arch. From there, you can find a portal to Divinity’s Reach, which will lead you to Queensdale. Enemies should be much more manageable from there!

My main is an Asura Mesmer. The concept of one little guy becoming 4 and confusing everyone is just very entertaining to me! XD

I love Asura in general. They have the most detailed/adorable animations!

I’ve never played a D/D Elementalist (though I will eventually), but Mesmer might fit the bill too. A lot of the utility and control skills you listed made me think of them. The way I play my Mesmer is very calculating, waiting for those perfect moments to pull off a life-saving Blink or throwing up a Feedback bubble right when the enemy unleashes a rapid-firing ranged attack. Their combat mobility is amazing. There have been a lot of situations in dungeons (particularly AC) where my party members have relied on me to keep dozens of mobs distracted while they complete the objective.

The damage isn’t amazing (though there’s great burst potential), but good enough where it doesn’t go unnoticed when I run dungeons with my buddies.

I’ve seen D/D Ele’s in action though, and definitely wouldn’t disagree with the above posts. But just thought I’d throw in my two cents.
