Defensive Napkins [MoB] Guardian
Isle of Janthir
@Fishergrip
I’d rather have us nerfed in some areas, and have range buffed.
I’d like it to make sense. It’s a kittening rifle. It’s an explosion pushing a chunk of metal out of a rifled barrel at extreme speed, it should go farther than an arrow.
I could take a slight nerf to the rifle if they would increase the range. Doesn’t make sense for the bow to shoot farther than the rifle..
It’s gunpowder god kitten It should outrange the bow! I hate sitting on a castle wall with a frigging rifle and getting “Out of Range” when I shoot at rangers who are pegging me constantly.
Yeah I don’t get this kitten, I just spent the last few hours in Blackgate borderlands, and despite the fact that SBI is not only in the lead, but had the Bay, BG decided to focus all their efforts on taking the Hills from us. We’d been holding the hills and giving SBI a good push and pull fight between briar and lake, and then we ended up having to forfeit Lake to defend Hills from BG. Then as soon as BG took Hills, SBI took Hills from them.
Come on guys, we’re kind of at a point where this should be about banging up SBI. You don’t gain anything from pushing IoJ off the map with a sandwich attack. That just means it becomes a 2 way fight, and SBI will annihilate you, just like they would annihilate us in that situation.
It just pisses me off, 3 weeks in a row where the server in 3rd place starts playing for second, and all it does is make the player who is in first get a huge lead that cannot be caught up to. It’s obnoxious.
When I get sick of GS I go for dual axes instead. Rifle is my primary though.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too Pseudo. It almost seems like if it’s your home borderlands, you’re going to get doubleteamed no matter what because of the path of least resistance. It’s useless for, say, the bottom right spawning team to try and attack all the way through to bay and be harassed from the flanks by the other side the entire way, while dealing with strong home opposition.
It’s why I’m kind of sick of playing on IoJ borderlands. The fights get a little too big for me, and our guild feels small and insignificant in the big zerg of larger guilds like TEST/QQ/ET/FIST/FIST all working together. I like operating on a smaller scale, in borderlands that we don’t have much of a presence on. Or EB, where the map is large enough to work that angle.
Hey Jed, I’m with IoJ as part of MoB. We’re the guys who got bored of the big fight and went to SBI borderlands last night around 9 PM heh.. Took Bluelake and started trebbing southeast bay walls. Had some really good skirmishes with both SBI and BG.
I really like this matchup. Our last one was ET and CD, where CD pretty much folded and avoided fighting ET at all costs. We’re kind of kitten with some of BG right now. At times we see them playing smart(I.E. not playing purely for second) and putting pressure on SBI from one side while we’re fighting on the other. Then other times it’s absolutely inexplicable why organized guilds of Blackgate guys will avoid a juicy SBI target in favor of a rather fortified IoJ tower. Or Blackgate will be hitting our supply camp while SBI is hitting the tower.
I totally doubt that this is coordinated or premeditated, but it really sucks for us sometimes. Still, I look forward to playing this matchup. It’s been a lot of fun so far.
Any Blackgate guilds who are reading, lets try to even the score out and push SBI down a notch instead of fighting amongst eachother, please?

Heh, I was more making an observation on their behavior. Just hive mind the entire thing and they have farmed so much that they know exactly where enemies will appear/lose invulnerability, and just stand on those exact points autoattacking.
Really pisses me off. I have to really be on the bounce to get kill credit in Cursed Shore.
Honestly I can’t tell the difference in Cursed Shore. They might as well be bots until a group event boss aggro’s them.
I don’t think a box of fun and some fireworks would have people transferring to a winning server immediately for that one box.
Besides which, server transfers should have stopped being free a while ago. It’s Anet’s problem that they haven’t put some sort of substantial limitation on that stuff.
lol this happens everywhere…
I’m on Isle of Janthir, and my server went to a lake on a borderland and saw like 8 Eredon Terrace bots farming the lake. For a minute there we thought they were trying to get the quaggan event and were legit enemies, then we realized that when our 3 engineers nuked them with grenade kits and caused a huge bloody mess in the water with no resistance or effort to escape, that they were bots.
I don’t see anything wrong with killing the bots. It prevents them from farming, which is a public service. You got some badges for performing a public service, well deserved.
Yeah.. This is why I use stomp when a thief runs up and starts hitting me while stealthed. I desperately hope that by knocking him back that’s less time for him to spend smacking me before I can see him, but it would be a lot better if knocking him down brought him out of stealth.
Was discussing rifle warriors in a different thread, figured I’d talk about mine here.
I’m a rifle warrior, and at least for PvP it’s great. It’s also good for dungeons.
It isn’t very good for farming cursed shore and for regular PvE such as story missions, but it works pretty kitten well in WvW. I run a build where my armor is power/toughness/vitality with all runes of the infiltrator, my jewelery is all slated for power/precision/crit damage, and my slots are Endure Pain/Frenzy/Stomp/Signet of Rage.
It works pretty well. I can run around the map quickly with signet of rage, I rarely switch to melee in WvW because my rig just lags too much to be reliable with melee except in small skirmishes, and I have all sorts of control. For traits I can’t recall off the top of my head(I know for sure Crack Shot, the 1s Immobilize on cripple, and 12 percent damage/9 percent crit chance on full adrenaline, because I don’t use my burst skill, self-root = bad)
That way I have an immobilize with aimed shot, as well as throwing my axe in melee, then I have rifle butt and smash to keep people away from me. Runes of the infiltrator also make is so that if I’m about to die I stealth, which can buy you vital time to roll away or call for help from guildies.
Let me know what you guys think, it’s worked really well for me so far. Lots and lots of direct damage as well as survivability. All the control lets you do 1v1 out in the world pretty efficiently, and in a team at the skirmishing level it’s an excellent build for taking down enemies one by one and staying alive to dance on the bodies.
The thing is, I rarely see good rifle warriors. I get lots of kills, I die rarely, and contribute greatly in WvW fights. But for some reason I’ve never been in a situation where I’m getting tagged and aggressively owned and go “ kitten that guy has a better rifle warrior than me”
Aside from adaptations of the Run N’ Gun SPvP build, I haven’t really seen any popular WvW rifle builds floating around out there. Which I guess is good as it means less competition.
God kitten you people are absolute whiners.
I don’t think he’s saying “Give a free exotic to every person on the winning server!”
He said a chest with frigging party stuff. I see absolutely nothing wrong with giving things like fireworks and boxes of fun to a server that wins. It’s not going to screw up the game. Even then, I don’t see the harm in rewarding a chest to a server that wins on the basis of participation during the week(Say a bronze/silver/gold rating, like in an event?) don’t even make it a big deal. Just like a jump puzzle chest unlock. You can already get 4 jump puzzles if you decide to do them per round, what’s the harm of one more for a weeks worth of work?
So many whiny kittens here.
Spend enough time in your server environment and you learn which key commanders are worth following, and which ones aren’t.
If my guild doesn’t like a particular Commander because we’ve seen that they are poor at leadership and shouldn’t have the tag, we just don’t follow them. Easy fix.
I haven’t really had any issues with Golems yet. I mean in a ridiculous number they can be a problem, but if you focus fire on them they go down really easily, and they are slow and unwieldy. The answer to beating a golem is to kill them fast, and not get close to them.
Golems are a big investment in resources. I’ve watched a 10 golem rush melt under sustained fire, that’s a lot of gold being kitten away for no real gain. My guild has a million golem blueprints laying around because they take so much supply that we never feel the investment is worth it.
Just gotta play smart.
As for the catapult issue, we found a bug that works around that. If you dodge roll back and initiate control of the Ram at the same time, you’ll finish the roll and be in control. This effectively lets you keep using the ram from out of catapult knockback range. Honestly I also appreciate being able to use the catapult as a defender, and like things the way they are in that respect.

I agree. My guild is on IoJ now, but we migrated there from Devonas Rest. We were one of maybe 4 guilds that actually played in decent numbers on the server then. I’ve found that in coming to IoJ we are less useful on the battlegrounds where we have superior numbers and assets, but when we decide to go to a borderland where we don’t really have a presence, our experience from DR of being regularly outmanned comes into serious practice. I call it “Going Viet Cong” when we just run 15 people around a server hitting sentry points and camps, and occasionally silent ramming a tower.
We have fun doing this, and being outmanned has given us so much practice at fighting in such a manner that in even odds in a skirmishing situation, we don’t lose anymore. Any SBI or Blackgate who were around last night for our harassment can attest that MoB can do a whole lot with a little.
@Buzzkapow
So you were the guy I was protecting on the ballista at the top of the stairs? :P
I was the rifle warrior sitting on top of the supply hut roof. We were protecting you with me acting as fire control, Ctrl+T targeting anyone who came towards the stairs and tried to make a mad dash for you to take down the ballista. It was me, a necro, a ranger, and another warrior all focus firing anyone who tried to come up the stairs at you.
I’m in MoB on IoJ, and I’ve had some really great fights with ET this cycle. Definitely lessons to learn and our North American lineup is still learning to work together and grow in size, but we’ve gotten pretty formidable for an Oceanic server. MoB came here recently from Devonas Rest where it was us and maybe 3 other guilds actually doing much of anything and getting stomped when we were asleep, we just have to worry about holding our own until the Aussies wake up now.
Any ET here who were in that Klovan Gully take some days ago? Might have been on the weekend? We were in EB and ET had pretty much everything on the map, and Extreme Team ninja’d Klovan and we joined the defense. Held off an ET zerg for about 45 minutes with both walls and the gate down, while the rest of IOJ took a keep, a few towers, and was bashing the gate at Stonemist by the time we fell. That was the best defense I’ve taken part in yet, and I’ve done a lot of those.
Ruin perplexes me though. There seems to be a big quality difference in their players, possibly because of their size? They coordinate well enough, and manage to be just about everywhere, but if the odds are 1v1, we tend to wipe them. The individual combatants aren’t always the most skilled, but there’s a whole lot of coordination, and a whole lot of numbers involved.
