I’m not the Hero NA wants, I’m the hero NA needs.
Just for the record, that’s my line. A legendary line luciously lubricated in the language of the legends.

NA Hero,
OK, all the chest pounding aside, are you man enough to talk about how your build and your playstyle helps you carry weak teams in SoloQ?
I take it you are a guardian, leaning towards DPS, not a full mid-pt-bunker?
How exactly do you go about it?
Being a legend isn’t about builds or playstyle. Some people are just meant to be saviors of this world. Some are not.

Can’t tell if trolling….
@Sharp
Why so many buffs? There has been a massive power creep in the game over the last few patches which is evident in the paper/rock/scissors style of play that has resulted.
What is your vision for Ele? What do you want the ele to do?
Ele is fun b/c you get to watch everyone else play while you are downed. :-)
But seriously, BLINX, thanks for sharing your build/video. You really do just go ball-to-the-wall trying to burst someone. However, I don’t understand why someone wouldn’t just play a thief to get more damage/evades/survivability (mobility + stealth) for a similar build. You play ele very well, but even watching you it looks like an exercise in futility. To have any chance, you have to have top-notch awareness and only engage in situations where you have some advantage ahead of time. If you don’t put yourself in that type of situation, you can’t really out-play your opponents.
Thanks! I do agree with everything you said here. I mainly play ele because I love the complexity of the class and the high skill ceiling.
Good work Puma. I think it’s important for the community to communicate what’s important to us in an organized professional way. It will only help us get what we want.
Hey Jatacid! Eles are definitely in a tough spot right now but you can still be useful. It just seems to require a lot more effort than most other classes. My biggest tips on Ele are the following:
1. Play a good build. This is absolutely vital.
2. Know your limits. We have to stay disciplined and and respect the limits of the class.
3. learn the combos. It’s more important to know skill combos on Ele than any other class.

This is the build I’ve found the most success with recently. It’s not an easy build to play by any means and there is a lot of things you need to pay attention to but it’s a blast to play. I will be doing another guide on intothemists.com/guides in the near future for this build (or something very similar). If you would like to see me playing this spec check out twitch.tv/blinxpvp. Also this video – http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2pvptv/b/456982494 – is me playing the spec with commentary. It’s not perfect gameplay as I was commentating live and watching chat but it should still be helpful. If you would like more info feel free to message me in game. I love Ele and I would be very happy to spend time to help others be effective and have fun playing the class. Good luck!

I kittening love GW2.
I agree. We definitely need more players and however much I hate to say it balance is not the answer. There have been many games that were tremendously less balanced than GW2, yet they still maintained a healthy balance of players.
I like this guy ^^
The main issue seems to be with teleports, fast moving skills, and attunement swapping.
C-c-c-c-c-c-combobreaker?
Nice one fernlingKeep on chugging Jon; we all want this game to thrive.
lol too funny -_-
Thanks for the post Jon!
People should REALLY start to consider their actions. Complaining about the devs makes the problem worse….
Why did you make this thread? What good can come from this?
I made this thread to gather information. If you dont like this thread do not post in it.
I would contest you made this thread in hopes that throwing a temper tantrum would make you feel better with a complete disregard for the consequences. Have you considered that threads like these actually make the problem worse?

Why did you make this thread? What good can come from this?
The Box says world class pvp.
It should never have been built and hyped if they wouldn’t give enough resources to deliver on that promise.
Regardless, there is nothing that can be done about that now. It is what it is.
I’d like to preface this post by saying my experience with GW2 has been very satisfactory. I’ve been seriously gaming for over 15 years and I’ve had some of my best gaming experiences GW2. I don’t regret playing and this IS NOT an “I quit” thread. I would however like to give my thoughts on GW2 PvP from the beginning in hopes to clear up some of the bad mojo going around and hopefully subdue some of the blame the devs are getting.
GW2 as a competitive game has as much potential as I have seen from any other title but most would agree there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Right now, GW2 PvP is in a very tough spot because a significant portion of serious PvPers have quit the game and won’t look back unless there are significant changes while at the same time the game has proven very inaccessible to new players which make it difficult to fill the void left by the initial departure of so many players.
Comparing Diablo 3 and GW2 is rather interesting. Ironically a lot of people quit because it didn’t have PvP even though it was promised. We all know how that reflected upon Blizzard. They went from being the most highly acclaimed game development company in the world to arguably the most hated almost overnight. Many people still resent Blizzard for what happened with Diablo 3 and a lot of us played Diablo 3 right before GW2. I feel some of that resentment against Blizzard has manifested in GW2 and carried over to Anet.
GW2 has sold over 3.5 million copies. That is a HUGE number. We would expect there to be a many more people PvPing. It can be estimated (http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1liii8/less_than_17000_people_have_played_solo_queue_in/) that only .0048% of people that purchased GW2 have participated in soloq. Of the estimated peak concurrent players (450,000) about .038 have participated in soloq. These are staggering figures and its indicative of WHY Anet isn’t spending their resources on PvP. THIS IS NOT THE DEVS FAULT. Some may argue that the reason people aren’t PvPing is because the devs didn’t do what was needed to retain and attract new players. The devs have said many times it’s not a matter of what they need to do but in what priority they need to do it. These are VERY difficult decisions to make when there is hundreds of changes that need to be made but they can only choose a small fraction of them to work on. We cannot expect the devs to be perfect. The issue is made worse when they do make a mistake because they just don’t have the resources to fix it before the players became disenchanted.
The core issue of GW2 PvP is that the few dedicated PvP developers they have, are working with such limited resources they just aren’t able to fulfill the expectations, demand and potential of PvP. The root cause is that GW2 PvP was never able to monetized and with the significantly larger pool of GW2 players doing PvE, there is no incentive for Anet to fund it’s development.
I think the best way to increase the numbers of PvPers is to revamp the reward system. Cosmetic gear should not be given freely. Glory should be a valuable resource that is used to buy specific pieces of gear. Alternatively players should be able to purchase any piece of gear with gems. Right now 50% of the cosmetic items in PvP are not available to players and this is a tremendous opportunity to monetize those items. People will and DO buy cosmetic items and I think that is the only way PvP can be successfully monotized in GW2. I’m not an economist but I also feel that if PvEers could gain something from doing PvP it would make a huge difference. I don’t PvE so I’m not sure about the details but there should be SOME incentive for PvEers to PvP. It’s by far the majority of the population of people playing GW2 and if they monetized PvP gear this could be a huge financial opportunity and pursue development of PvP.
I am very thankful for the hard work of the GW2 development team especially since they have been blamed and hassled to no end. I love this game and I know many of you do too. At the end of the day GW2 is thier baby and I believe they have enough love and genuine interest to do their best.
All in all, I enjoy playing GW2 PvP. I still have hopes (I think we all do) but there is no reason to set ourselves up for disappointment when GW2 still has a lot to offer. Hopefully this thread will help players ease their expectations and enjoy GW2 PvP for what it is and not for what they want it to be, while at the same time helping them see that the Devs are NOT our enemies. The more we hate on the devs the more it disenchants them to help us and go the extra mile to meet our expectations.
The best thing we can do right now is RALLY BEHIND THE DEVS and show our support for a game we love in hopes that the people who can make the BIG decisions will see the light and make an effort to fulfill the potential of this great game.
Sincerely,
BLINX

Ya it was definitely abnormal.
I’ve noticed the issue seems to be much worse for ele and warrior. I multi-class quite a bit and I’ve noticed a lot of teleporting with warrior hammer skills and a lot of unresponsiveness with ele and switching attunements in particular.

When I play with a group of players and we lose a game, it almost impossible to identify why we lost. We start asking questions “Were you there? Why didn’t you come? Why was that point capped? What happened over there?” There is no transparency or communication of information about what happened after a game is over. The scores on the scoreboard communicate NOTHING to the players at the end about whether or not they were actually effective and responsible for that outcome. If I can’t identify what went wrong, how can I possibly fix it on the individual level and on the group level?
Now, it takes many games of practice and feedback from other players to learn these skills, so it is very tough for this type of information to come firsthand from Arenanet about how to play conquest. But, what Arenanet CAN do is the following.
Please release a proper post-game scoreboard that displays the following things:
A) How many seconds was each point held by Red, Blue, or neutral?
B) How many neutralizes or caps by each player
C) Total damage and received done by each player
D) Damage done to downstate players
E) Total healing done and received by each player
F) Conditions applied/removed/cleansed
G) Boons applied/removed
H) How many stomps, revives, and deaths by each player
I) Special map mechanics: Treb shots fired, orbs ran, npc kills, etc.
J) Whatever else you can think of or other players can
this
I really hope to see more montages such as these. Also, that “haters gonna hate” pic is ridiculously funny lol.
Looks like this is a duplicate thread. Please delete. Thanks!
I don’t think anet should buff ANYTHING until they nerf the clearly op specs. There has been a massive power creep over the last couple of months. It’s now almost a matter of paper rock scissors and matches that are determined by comp before the game even begins and it’s because most classes do what they too way too well.

I think there is a bug in the matchmaking where some players will always be on your team and other players will never be on your team. Others I have spoke with seem to have the same issue. I take screen shots of every soloq game I’ve played and I can verify some players I have played 20+ games with this happening.

I agree with this completely. I’ve wanted this for A LONG time. It’s pretty crazy to think this isn’t already in the game. Generally players will have a much better experience when they are playing with people of equal skill level. Teams of players on equal skill level tend to stick around longer as well.
Anet said on a early SOTG that they wanted to do this and it was “in the works”. I think this would greatly enhance the pvp experience of ALL players. Thanks for making this post Zzod.
I have also been experiencing this.
What about adding a “What’s your favorite map?” poll?
Player icons seem to randomly disappear on the minimap during spvp games.
Freeze grenade has MORE particle effects when Effect LOD is checked.
Awesome video! This is the best produced montage I have ever seen. You’re gonna give Reckful a run for his money -.-
Ya I noticed something funky so i started keeping track. This only applies to soloq and CLEARLY this is not random. Of 36 games,
19 temple
8 skyhammer
4 khlyo
3 forest
2 legacy
This is a fun discussion that I’ve had on TS a few times that I thought I would bring to the forums. Rank the top 10 most powerful (including its effect, casting time, and cooldown) utilities in the game for Team Arena across all classes. Keep in mind, I’m not referring to heals or elites, just the 7 8 and 9 skills. Also, they dont necessarily have to be “genericly” powerful, just powerful in a particular build, and thus may be traited to be better than it is by default. Lastly, everyone has their own opinions, so if you dont like my list, make your own and share! Here’s my list:
- “Stand Your Ground!” – Guardian
- Illusion of Life – Mesmer
- Portal – Mesmer
- Shadow Trap – Thief
- Epidemic – Necromancer
- Grenade Kit – Engineer
- Shadow Refuge – Thief
- Elixir R – Engineer
- Sun Spirit – Ranger
- Berserker’s Stance – Warrior
lol this is the exact list i would make.
Has anyone used this recently?
the streak was broken! After 96 games the team that had the most spirit rangers finally lost -_-
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k33;2B2-V0657N-Z0;9;59-TT;10;348A45A531;3V-m7Y3H75Bo
This is the most viable d/d ele build right now imo. It’s 90% perma chill thats reapplied frequently. It’s not an easy build to play by any means because u need to pay attention to a lot of things but its pretty brutal 1v1 which is ele’s biggest weakness right now.
If you swap out mist form for cleansing fire its pretty strong against spirit rangers and engis.
(edited by Batmang.5421)
-The team with the most combination of spirit ranger and necro won every single game.
Not gonna agree or disagree but I did win a game where my team had 4 necros and 1 bunker (me). We ended up winning. Still wondering if we won because my team had the better comp or had the better players.
GGs last night Charles ^^. I do remember the 4 nec 1 guard game. We lost by like 400 points rofl.
Great post. I would make a few changes though.
-spirit rangers over ele
-condi necro over evade thief
-burst ele even with evade thief
-shatter mesmer even with evade thief
-evade thief over bunker guard
-engi over bunker guard
Starting at 7pm on 8/9/11 to 7 pm 8/10/11, I played 24 hours straight of solo q without caffeine or any other drugs. Some things I noticed are:
-Engis are amazing.
-Eles are just as bad solo q as they are in team q and competitive play.
-Random map rotation is awesome.
-The classes mix consisted of about 25% necros, 15% warriors, 15% spirit rangers, 15% thieves, 15% engis, 5% guards, 5% mesmer, 5% ele.
-There seemed to be a pool of about 30 players that I kept playing with.
The longer I kept playing, the longer it seemed the queues took compared to the same time the previous day. The longest queue took 28 minutes which was in early morning.
-The team with the most combination of spirit ranger and necro won every single game. The team with the most ele and mesmer lost every single time. If a team had the most spirit ranger/necro AND ele/mesmer the results varied.
-There was 1 player who I didn’t sync with that I played with or against for about 20 games in a row.
-Out of the 52 games, 6 of them had unbalanced teams. 4 games we had 4 players, 1 game the other team had 4 players and 1 game they had 3 players.
-I had the best 10 hours of sleep I’ve ever had
(edited by Batmang.5421)
Syncing queues is DEFINITELY happening.
After fighting Readymade I think staff is 110% viable. Guess players still can’t learn to adapt.
Ya hes probably the best staff user I have seen. Definitely one of the more viable ele builds but I still don’t think it cuts it.
With Blinx’s Soldier’s build, Tornado is a surprisingly useful elite to use at times, especially on the temple’s gate.
Tornado has only one single use – knocking enemies back. It doesn’t deal dmg, it doesn’t make the elementalist tanky, it doesn’t make him a threat and it doesn’t inflict any dangerous conditions either. So you can use an elite skill once in 160 seconds to knock enemies back. That’s not useful, that’s just horribly bad for an elite. Other classes have the same thing as utility skill.
Actually tornado does do damage. o.O
Having a low population of pvpers creates a lot of issues that unfortunately cannot be solved without major inconveniences. I called the sync soloq problem 6 months ago.
There is significant difference between whats effective in hotjoin and in tournies. People should specify which game mode they are referring to.
