The main problem with LA is that the parts people spend most of their time are the theme park bits. If those had followed the character of the terraces it’d be fine.

I don’t see anything wrong with the matchup system as it is, on any of my accounts. We have a bit of movement between the tiers, lopsided matches aren’t lasting that long anymore, and most matches are nowhere near as lopsided as they were a few months ago.

I do see plenty wrong with 1U1D, in that it’s going to force too much movement between the tiers and cause lopsided matches because they’re inherent to the 1U1D system.

So, for me this solves two problems at once – voting against a bad idea, and in favour of a more reasonable one.

I’d like to see the GvG community become a relevant part of WvW for sure – it should be a part of the system that provides a greater level of competition to those who want it, with even numbers and where you can choose your teammates.

Because of those two factors, tournaments between servers don’t work so well, but GvG tournaments sure could. I’m not a GvG player myself but I’d cheer them on, particularly if their victory benefits the whole server.

btw, why do female human and norn have sexy undies while males have boxers… I want sexy underwear for my male characters, like a speedo or a boxer briefs.

Also chars look silly with underwear, they are hairy, let them naked, all their privates will be covered with hair… this way we can do cosplays of Red XIII from FF7.

How do you know their private areas are hairy? They could be hairless in that area you know.

The Tier 1 Weapons will be made available in an upcoming Reward Track, much like the armor already is.

We haven’t fully decided how to distribute the T2 Weapons and Armor yet. Though, we are currently leaning towards players purchasing them with a currency that they’d earn as a match reward. We may also set rank requirements for the various pieces, so you’d need to be a relatively high rank(1-2k) to purchase a full set.

I think you could use the tournament tokens, and just hand those out for winning Skirmishes. Much rather see that happen than another tournament, at least until we’ve got a scoring system that’s widely considered to be fair and robust enough that people don’t stack servers to game it.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

in WvW

Ben K.7329

Missed the poll, but it looks like the most popular option was the most needed one.

Even if they use the same scores for all time zones, it will under-reward large disparities and over-reward close matches. I’m not sure that this will be enough to close the gap in a meaningful way.

I guess we are going to find out.

I see where you’re coming from – there are some issues with the skirmish system in that close doesn’t count. One server wins by a lot during some time zones, another wins by a little during others… and they come out with the same number of points.

But that could help this system too. You wouldn’t buy in more guilds to overstack SEA if you’re already winning the skirmishes during that time zone. And putting in more effort to take a small lead during NA would mean more than it has during the last four years.

I agree that we’ll have to try it to find out. This could have weird effects that I don’t foresee.

I’d agree that DBL is harder to defend with less numbers, because towers and keeps are bigger and require more siege to defend. So it makes sense to make that the Green BL, which is usually the strongest server with the best ability to cover multiple avenues of attack.

So poll players on that – I think changing one BL to Desert will be way more popular than switching all of them every three months.

Then look at making a 3rd borderland map. Perhaps gather some thoughts from players on what they’d like to see that Alpine or Desert doesn’t cater for.

Ben K.7329

It’s been discussed over and over again, there isn’t a 3rd map option for homebl right now, and it would take them at least another year to make one.

I’ve heard that, but I don’t believe it. There is a lot of testing required but most of DBL used existing art assets from HoT, with a few exceptions particularly in structure walls.
Similarly it would be possible to do the majority of layout work for an Ascalon / woodland themed map pretty quickly, giving a third BL with a very distinct theme, but for which art assets already exist.

Could even use existing camp, tower and keep assets from Alpine and leave bespoke versions for a later release. WvW players aren’t going to be offended.

Let’s Talk Scoring…

in WvW

Posted by: Ben K.7329

Ben K.7329

Run some weeks with and without the score multipliers, see what happens. I think capping the number of points for winning a 2-hour slice will be effective enough in limiting the damage caused by population imbalance.

Also, if we’re doing score multipliers, keeping the multiplier high for time periods when all servers have high participation, including what would normally be “off-hours”, is crucial.

The bottom line is it doesn’t matter if you like the map individually. To you, it might be the best map ever. The problem is that the majority of the WvW did not play it. It was annoying seeing a 100 queue for EB and then no queues anywhere else.

Since the return of alpine, the queues have been spread between the maps again.

That’s the only stat that matters.

Since the return of Alpine I’m seeing the same thing as before – huge queue for EB and everything else empty.

It’s not perfect, but it’s close enough for me. I’d like to see incentives for holding assets over time and winning matches, but I think those are going to favour population imbalance too much to look at just yet. So my vote is onto the next system.

Offensive Small-Team Play: Alpine vs. Desert

in WvW

Posted by: Ben K.7329

Ben K.7329

For a group of 4-5 I find -

Desert BL is better for attacking upgraded structures, as the towers and keeps are a lot bigger and harder for one lone siege monkey to stall. Hills keep can not be defended against all attack without leaving the walls.
Conversely, if you’re looking to hold against attackers, Alpine is a lot easier and requires an enemy server to bring a much bigger zerg to deal with 4-5

Desert BL gives more options to hide from a zerg, but if you’ve already been spotted Alpine allows considerably more freedom to escape

Desert also has sentries better placed to keep tabs on zerg locations because you can’t walk around them so easily, but Alpine wouldn’t need huge changes to address that – in fact it’s as simple as moving the sentries

If you have to regroup, it’s a lot faster to cross the map on Alpine. I’d say something about waypoints but my server never had them anyway so DBL has at least given us one to work with

If you’re looking to fight other groups, they’re much the same – with DBL there are more chokes so in theory it should be easier to lie in wait at one, but in practice people followed the roads a lot on Alpine as well, so you’d find them unless they were deliberately trying to stay out of sight.

Inappropriate analogy. The point of a puzzle is to figure it out, not to have others figure it out for you and just follow their instructions.

But we’re long past the point where you can design puzzles on the assumption that people haven’t been told how to do it, so that’s why Tribulation mode is technically difficult, not intellectually difficult.

Ironically, exams are one of the best techniques for weeding out those who can’t solve problems they haven’t encountered before.

Depends on how often you’re looking to break it, I suppose. Scrapper should be able to keep the stun rate high. Chronomancer probably has the fastest CC burst because it can dual-cast Signet of Humility + Domination + other stuns for a combined 30-40s worth of hard CC, but they’re on 90-180 second cooldowns.

Ok – I like what you’re trying to get at with this idea, and it does a good job at preventing 2v1s, but there’s a few hitches.

First, what happens to the people on an enemy BL when they lose SM?

Second, what about the WvW guild missions that become complicated without enemy assets to cap? The 10 sentries in 15 minutes one is going to be almost impossible if you can only go to EB.

Third, there are still a few servers where two maps is not enough at reset or primetime. What are all the other players supposed to do?

I’m a female player and it’s not my ideal cute either. No offense to you, I just have different tastes—but I’m glad you found a look you love. I like my female charr to look a little more “manly” as you call it.
Honestly, I can see what Voodoo means. While I purchased one of the new female faces and got its features to be something I really liked—he has a point. All the new female faces are cutesy and “sweet-baby-cat” like. Which is a step away from the fierce charr we’ve come to know.

Someone who gets the point.

The proliferation of those faces plus a handful of… unlikely hairstyles is making most of the female charr I’m seeing with makeover kit faces look like weird anthro things that, compared to the original female charr, look not cute but ridiculous.

I’d fully expect it to be harder to get these henchmen to do what players can, but if GW1 is any guide they can lead to sort of… super-builds that make other players irrelevant.

For me personally, they’d lead me to try out dungeons and fractals where before I just didn’t bother. I’ve yet to set foot in Sorrow’s Embrace even in story mode. Plus it’s a way to get Euryale out of the house once in a while. Don’t really see much of the storyline characters after the first story arc.

— Sociopolitical Diversification: Player housing, Guild Halls, and Faction Alliances leading to new game play opportunities, rewards and content.

Hard to go past this one really. The main thing GW2 lacks at the moment is opportunities to explore the world’s characters, lore, communities, stories, and so on beyond the main storyline, and this is the obvious way to do it.

If I might make the suggestion, player housing and guild halls could be tied into the story as well – characters that players have met through their personal stories will no doubt have something to offer to their house/estate/barracks/etc., and guild halls may attract certain NPCs drawn by that guild’s exploits in Tyria and the Mists, plus the acknowledgement and services of Pact leaders for PvE content and … potentially heroes of the Mists to help defend structures in WvW?

There’s a lot of ways to link the whole concept of sociopolitical diversification into WvW, actually, that would help make guilds more relevant to the format, and make achievements there feel a little less ephemeral.

Remember all those henchmen made for GW1 GvG matches, where the community was involved in setting up builds for them? I’m not going to suggest the same thing be done in GW2, but having certain characters be associated with WvW, with stories and interactions of their own, could certainly help bring it to life, and the ability to place such heroes on defense or patrol could also help with the difficulty of getting human players to do thankless tasks at odd hours. Just a thought.

I’d love to have a reef drake or a black widow spider, but because I never played GW 1, those are forever locked away from me unless I go and grind up Hall of Monuments points from GW 1.

The abilities of the HoM pets are duplicates of standard GW2 pets (e.g. the black widow is a copy of the jungle spider with a different skin), and the reef drake is a Southsun Cove pet.
