Wow! Thanks for the great responses.
1. I do have Exotic Weapons. I have a Staff (daredevil) and Short Bow w/ Superior Sigils
2. I managed to make it to the Cathedral of Silence in Cursed Shore and found the Rubicon Berserkers gear for my Daredevil.
a. I haven’t bought it yet because I feel a little too “squishy” at the moment. I even died a couple times getting through the Straits of Devastation and Malchor’s Leap.
3. I’ll check out the Laurel vendor in LA for Amulet and Rings.
Thanks again for all the help!
Ok, I now have three level 80 characters, but they are still pretty raw. A couple of them don’t even have all Level 80 gear, let alone anything like exotic level 80 gear.
Anyway, I’m looking for the best way to get Level 80 exotic gear with the resources I have.
I’ve got 800,000 Karma, 65 gold, 120 laurels, and all three characters have various crafting skills in the 200 skill range. I also own the Heart of Thorns expansion.
Someone suggested karma vendors in Orr. Is there are particular map in Orr I should focus first?
Should I just skip Orr and start doing Fractals? Should I skip all that and start doing HoT stuff?
Just a nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I struggled with the balance between completeness and length for this review, but I was trying to create the most complete review for Guild Wars 2 (non-HoT) available on YouTube.
I hope I hit the mark.
Thanks, doing the final edit of my in-depth review, and your information was a big help.
No they cant create guilds.
Actually they can, unless the feature was removed recently (within the last month).
I created my guild using a free account, a little more than a month ago. Had no access to the gbank though.
The official chart also says free accounts can’t post to the forums. Did you upgrade your account?
First, is it still true that it only costs 1 gold to create a guild? Also, can free accounts create guilds?
I read that free accounts have no access to guild banks (for obvious reasons), but surely they could access a guild bank owned by their account?
I am trying to play through Season 2, at least as far I can; and it appears Trouble at Fort Salma is “as far as I can”.
I have to use the arrow cart to clear the attackers from the east gate, but the arrow cart does not have line of sight to anything near the east gate (or anywhere else for that matter). As a result, I have never been able to fire a single shot/volley/attack from the arrow cart. Unfortunately, this is required to progress the storyline.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a workaround? I have tried exiting the game and restarting the story a number of times. It is always the same.
For everyone still experiencing a connection issue:
- Try closing your game completely and then loading it back up and giving it another try.
A character load attempt > close game > load again seems to be what fixes the problem for others still experiencing the issue.
It seems that a client restart is needed after patching for it to function normally again.
I tried again this morning and had the same problem as last night, then I followed the advice above and quit the game completely.
I tried again and it worked. I’m back up and running normally now.

Don’t know if it’s related or a complete fluke, I was about to post “me too” on this problem- all my characters never got past loading screen but a friend suggested I do a repair from this guide:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-ClientTook about 10 minutes and then I logged in and everything’s great – hopped multiple characters, doing things, changing zones
I performed this repair, but it did not solve my problem.
Also, I seriously doubt this has anything to do with backbone issues. We didn’t all lose connectivity at the same exact time; it was only when we tried to change zones.
If this were back bone issues, some of us would’ve been disconnected in the middle of an event or doing something other than trying to change zones. Also, if the backbone issues in NJ and PA were the problem, I would’ve lost connection to the login servers and patch servers as well as the world servers.
I think it is definitely related to the patch.

This is my “me too” post. Ever since the latest patch, I can access character select screen, but can’t get past loading screen for maps.
I think some people watched this video expecting either a rant against the free account restrictions or a complete dismissal of some of the complaints about those restrictions, but I rarely do rants on my channel.
I’d call it an even-handed presentation of both the restrictions and the reasons for those restrictions.

I hope you enjoy it.
Now, it looks like we’re done. It seems there is no way to progress our guild, no matter how slowly.
Make some friends? There are tens of thousands of other players out there willing to help you. The only reason why you don’t have a way to progress is because you don’t want to (invite other people, make friends, etcs). It’s called an MMO for a reason.
Yes, and in some games, we join other guilds for that reason. However, we liked our little two-person guild, and while it wasn’t a huge part of the reason we loved the game; it feels like something has been “taken away”, so-to-speak, because we enjoyed earning our little influence points and unlocking the next research rank in something.
It was slow, and there were certainly some research we would never have, but it still added to the fun.
Well, let me throw my hat in the ring. My daughter and I formed a two-person guild shortly after getting the game in 2012.
We understood that we would probably never get to research some of the greatest stuff, but we were able to get a guild vault and some of the other lower hanging fruit in the research trees.
Now, it looks like we’re done. It seems there is no way to progress our guild, no matter how slowly.
I decided to put a little video together on the subject, including a hat tip to No One for his contribution.
Now all need is some help from a couple of guys named Hoo and Watt, and we could make comedy gold!
I’ve played on and off since I bought the game in 2012, but I have noticed that my gold seems to be just as valuable when it comes to purchasing power on the trading post no matter how long I step away from the game.
I’d be interested in hearing from players who are a little more active on the Trading Post. Has their been a lot of inflation (for gold) or deflation (for goods) on the Trading Post over the last 3 years?
I think Guild Wars 2 has one of the best player communities of all time, at least in terms of being the least toxic, most helpful, and most welcoming. Sure, there are bad apples in every bushel; but it is a great community overall.
Are there reasons for that?
I know ArenaNet cracks down on gold spammers, but have they ever cracked down on toxic chat or other anti-social in-game behavior? It’d be interested to hear from folks who have been around from the beginning.
Don’t chase content, let the content “come to you” so to speak. For example, enjoy the fact that there are no “quests” in the game, but don’t burn yourself out trying to fill-in all the hearts as a leveling and progression mechanism. Also, don’t strive for map completions right away unless it’s something you really enjoy a lot.
Instead, adopt an “event-driven” play style. You’ll fill in a lot of hearts, gain a lot of loot, and make a lot of coin by just allowing yourself to get caught up in nearby events. Watch the list of dailies and choose the ones that will take you to new maps (if level appropriate) to harvest materials or view a vista.
I think you’ll find an “event-driven” play style will result in a much more rewarding gameplay experience.
Wow, that is quite a restriction! Thanks for doing the homework No One. I’ll be sure and give you credit in the review!
Thanks for the link. While it doesn’t clear up the “common” items issue; it is very helpful.
I’m a buy-to-play user, but I want to make sure my information on some of the free-to-play restrictions is correct.
1. Local and Whisper Chat Only: That’s for as long as the account is free-to-play, correct? It doesn’t open up after a certain level or anything like that?
2. Trade “Common” Items: Does this mean free players can only trade “common” items in the Trading House (no blue, green, yellow items, etc.)? I just want to confirm that the word “common” is being used literally.
Any help clarifying these restrictions would be greatly appreciated.

Heart of Thorns Impact to GW2 Base Players?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I have a couple of questions about the impact of HoT on the GW2 base game.
1. Will owners of the GW2 base game (as well as free players) be able to continue playing for free without the HoT Expansion?
2. Will the HoT expansion change the level 1-79 experience from the GW2 base game (as it exists today)?
I know a lot of changes are taking place for Level 80 characters. I also know that there have been changes to skills and such for characters Level 1-79, but the general gameplay remains largely unchanged for Level 1-79. I’m just wondering if that will remain true through the HoT expansion.
Any answers are greatly appreciated.
I’ve had the game for about a year, but I finally hit Level 80 with my first character last night. I know next to nothing about the game, so I figured I’d ask for a little advice/guidance.
1. Money: I only have 19 gold. I really like the looks of the cultural armor, but it is very expensive and I’ve never seen anyone else actually wearing the cultural armor. Whether or not I eventually buy the Level 80 cultural armor, what is the best way to make money?
2. Dungeons: I’ve never been in a dungeon, not for my story, not for anything. What would be a good “n00b” dungeon to start with?
3. Builds: This character is a Sword/Axe & Rifle warrior with 30 Strength, 20 Arms, and 20 Discipline. Again, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve googled builds, but some of them seem like they could be outdated. What is a good source of information for Warrior Builds AND Slot Skills?
4. More: Any other advice or anything you can’t believe I didn’t mention (or don’t know about)?
It’s an awesome game, my daughter and I play together and we are really enjoying it. Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Gaile, that worked.
I’m trying to buy gems in-game, and everything works right up to the point where I confirm the order. The confirm button is always grayed out, no matter what I do.
