Its not that there won’t be good builds, its a simple case of completely changing the play style of every guard/dh. After playing for admittedly a very short time, I started wondering what was the point of weapon skills altogether. I can see gs becoming obsolete with fb as well as shouts/ meditations and certain traits. So basicaly you are being forced to play a certain way. None of this really matters all that much as long as other builds DON’T become obsolete, if the only call you hear in tier4/raids is for fb like we already saw with the last specializations due to op fire dmg / support niche. If that does happen it could very well be game over for me because I already know I don’t like the play style.
Totally disagree with the OP.
I would like to see the opposite, with more balanced approach to healing and dps throughout the classes. This is what makes gw2 so unique in the first place, only raids have changed this a little and maybe 1 or 2 high lvl fracts. The problem was people just focusing on dps with other builds being a little unneeded so they attempted to add more diversity, I think they overshot it a bit. What would be better imo would be a little more party focus based on what boons you can share and bring to the table, if each class had there own, all of which are equally as desirable, bang goes any class feeling obsolete.
I didn’t even realise people still played with the staff, Learn something new everyday. Handy for tagging in WvW eh, I’ll dust it off and get it ready, oh wait, it WAS good for tagging in WvW, back it goes into the loft.
That’s terrible… LOL… would really annoy me… ROFL… how absolutely irritating… IMAO… hope it gets sorted soon
DDDD
seriously devs, this guy needs advice.
Never understand why people complain about items being sold for gems, nothing in the gem store is pay to win and gems can be brought for gold. Besides that a lot of folks like give a little support towards the kick kitten game that asks for no monthly subscription. Give it a rest.
Yea, I’ve never really had problems with lag in this game until recently. I got dc 4 times during a jormag battle ! and the lag reminds me of what it use to be like playing on a 56 k modem, i now use 1 with speeds of 38912 k.
I’ve personally always disliked sword, the sec skill does no dmg and as well as the points you bring up, zd has a tendancy to miss targets right in front of you, give me scepter over sword any day of the week.
lol it does look odd but I don’t think it looks bad somehow, I would def take a point out of zeal and put it into honor.
Yea, what he said.
Build looks good but not 2 stacking sigils and a different rune set. Trooper, lyssa, pack.. think there are quite a few I’d prefer to divinity.
I have to agree, aegis effect is ok until you get a shield skin to go with whatever look your after and it can really impair your overall look. In combat only would be great although I really can’t see why the option of turning it of would be an issue.
The changes that effected guards the most where rune boon nerf and vigourous precision nerf, both really quite big. Depending on how you was set up it shouldnt make much difference though. Full clerics just sounds bad to me anyway tbh, but if your only using exo’s if doesn’t take long to replace those stats if you wanted. The big costs come from cool skins and ascended stats.
Sorry havn’t looked at your build much as seeing retaliation on a blocking skill puzzled me.
OK there were quite a few differences and using 2 condition removal sigils wasn’t even an option then. I did use PoV, sigil of purity and absolute res. I didnt use lemongrass or the second sigil.
I now have better removal from my sigils, and 1 on a 16sec cd as well as a full clean, there’s not a lot in it tbh. Do think your build is maybe a touch overkill, if thats possible. It does look good !
> Fireize.. that looks a lot like the build i used prior to this 1, although my traits where 0/5/10/30/25 and my runes where a mix to give me 45% boon duration. And yea its good for 1 v1 but really shines in small groups.
>oZii.. Easy to achieve that is you wanted, switch out clerics for zealot if you wanted to keep some healing power or just change some rings / trinkets for zerkers.
The lack of stability is a sore sacrifice, it does go on from time to time, although I’m starting to miss it less.
lol Stars
> Fireize. I went for meds because a 100% shout build wasn’t doing it for me anymore. If offers much better healing and a small dps gain as well as slightly better condition removal. I use the toughness to prec trait over fury because I have so much toughness, it gives me7% overall crit chance, the build page shows only 6%, not sure why that is. Anyway overall sec for sec the prec gain is the victor, and thats before I counter in SY which pairs up very nicely with CoP.
JI quite tricky to use if your trying to run away, something I rarely do, I can be lying downed on the floor with 10% health, still shouting “TIS BUT A SCATCH”
It is a good skill though and I by no means stick to the one’s in the link 100% of the time, having a 20% cd reduction on both shouts and meds is useful for quick skill changes.
And I think I need to add that if I’m running in a zerg I do pop shelter on, its amazing in those head on zerg vs zerg collisions.
wow, good timing, 5 minutes since you posted
I use to run a mix of nothing but soldier / clerics and trust me the mix of good toughness and healing can really help you bunker up. I know where your coming from though thats why I only use it on one weapon switch now. This actually helps you in tight corners, a switch to my scepter / shield boosts armour and healing. Even regen thats already been caste starts to tick higher numbers. The garenteed dodge roll is stronger as is my main heal. I tend to switch weapons a lot during fights so maybe not as good for some playstyles though. I consider scepter as a hard hitting melee weapon that can be used as ranged.
Yea I know shelter is good, really I’ve used it a lot and it tends to be my heal skill of choice in spvp. However for me the pro’s of signet outway the pro’s of shelter.
1. larger heal
2. condition removal
3. doesn’t go into full cd if unblockable cc is given (this has ensured my death with shelter many times) instead its a quick 3 seconds.
there are many ways to ensure signet comes of, blind, aegis or blocks, a shield knockback also works. Although these days i do hit it before it becomes totally needed, as in if it doesn’t come straight away, its won’t mean certain death. Again a switch to my scepter / shield will give me that knockback and make it even stronger.
Done a lot, and I do mean a LOT of testing etc on the pro’s and con’s of everything before I settled on this build. You may have seen my previous threads
My aim is simple, to kill the enemy quicker than they can kill you: You would be hard pushed to find a better 1 v 1 build, feel free to quote me !
weaps are my own personnel preference as is signet of resolve !!!
please comment, any tricks you think I’m missed? I do use bloodlust on my water weapon.
The 2 condition removal sigils work very well together on weapon switch as the 10 sec weapon switch timer unsures they are ready for a proc.
what would you change? please say, always looking for different approaches.
website IS acting up, very oddly !
I think the real thing that would benefit guards the most would be changes to the game itself. There is to much emphasis on zergs rather than real team play, something the guardian would excel at given half a chance.
I actually thought i had kept 3 of your rings/trinkets on healing to give you more like 1k worth.
I havn’t done much fractals but have a run a build somewhat like it in dungeons, not every group wants just zerkers, in fact unless your running with dedicated dungeon players I wouldn’t recommend it. It would be a good help for the party. I have run many times where others where mainly just zerkers and I def helped a lot and saved many wipes.
Its not a bad idea ofc to get some dps gear for when you want it but I wouldnt recommend any guardian starting of with it and it kinda sucks for wvw.
No offense but the build doesnt look good to me, do you really need that much in healing? It proves how dodgy that site is, shows your roll as healing for less than 1.2k and yet its 1heal point for 1 heal, pretty much the only reason healing is worth bothering with at all.
If you really want to run with that much healing try to make better use of it, 5 points in valor, aegis / symbuls heal etc. Battle presence is a nice thought but i doublt that many people will thank you for it. rly pure of voice with this build all the way.
I was going to link you back your build with a few changes I felt would improve it but by the time I had finished it looks completely different. Strength in numbers, removing conditions, throwing out fury and aegis healing will be better for a party setting than just focusing on 1 passive heal.
Its good for bunker builds. Most guards go bunker or a mix of bunker / dps has its usually the best option for wvw. In truth its not bad for pve either, especially if your soloing around a map. As for dungeons, most groups wont care how you play as long as you play well and have fun.
I wish shield could block melee attacks, still seems odd to be that it can’t. I’d like a larger aoe range on scepter 2 and I’d like to see couragous return replaced with anything that doesnt completey suck, really hate it. At least so it worked from a dead state and not just downed.
I use the smallest body size available to charr, it helps steady the camera in tight spots.
Traveller… now move away from the shouts.. do it slowly..
I to used boon duration which gave the the constant swiftness but shout build seems meh since the nerf. Lets be honest, 90% of the shout builds out there suddenly lost 30%, 30% !!! usefulness from any boon, and shouts are all about boons. Even stand your ground seems a bit naff, still good for stomping or a quick run though a zerg, but forgive me if i don’t cheer due to total utopia. Its hard to beat that 25% faster run now and coupled with meds you get a nice teleport thrown in should fancy it. Sorry I went a bit of topic there, but it kinda part n parcel, yea you boon duration sucks now so yea so do boon duration shout builds.
thats the most intersting build I’ve seen for a very long time
The idea of having 3 skills i never want to press angers my blood…. Seems like your wishing for some kind of passive build where all you do is press number 1. angers me i tell you, ggggggrrrrrrrrr
LOL guys, 100 healing per hit WITHOUT healing power sounds so OP. I love it, lets hassle a-net until they succumb to our demands. Only healing we would need is whirling wrath.
Not convinced bane signet is the best option.
As for which heal to use I think it really just a case of no healing power + AH use shelter.
High healing + no AH use signet.
Receving stacks of might from shelter are to unreliable, compared to 4.5k extra heal and a condition removal (as weak as it is).
After saying all this in a DPS build shelter would win every time, but in a tanky build with high toughness and condition removal the extra hp is more important.
just IMO, whatever, enjoy the game !
Healing power increases every skill that heals ! these can be weap skills, utility skills, regen, passive heals, runes, sigils or traits.
Most people choose not to use healing power as the gains are so marginal, for instant 0.125 * HP per sec on regen or 0.4 * HP on monk focus, however I feel they add up and some is a worth while stat investment.
If your set on using a mace, use mace of justice, the only thing that makes mace slightly tempting. I love shield but with mace I’d use focus, loose honourable shield for strength in numbers. Your not giving of enough retal to justify vengful, but the 5 points into radiance for justice is blind. Change force of will for pure of voice… Yea thats starting to look much better imo. Not what I would use but pretty good.
I’ve been testing a lot of rune sets since the patch removed the 15% boon stacking and I can honestly say nothing seems to work better than travelers. I find the 25% speed increase invaluable, the all stat increase nice enough and at least you keep 15% boon. Mybe I’m not delving far enough away from my pre-patch build and will change my mind, certaintly soldiers in always an option. Using feathers means a dps decrease and a crap load of gold in the long run, dont fancy that option much.
Thanks for the info guys, saved me needing to experiment.
i notice that 1400 gives 77 ish and 1700 gives 89 ish so im guess the extra healing tick is something like 25 healing = 1 health per tick.
We Know. Makes it worse that a-net said guards in good place before they nerfed us, gave us crap traits and destroyed the mixing of boon runes. I for I had a good old complain about it. However the patch itself was excellent and I know most people are enjoying it. One thing I really don’t get is why they changed town clothes, really seems like a case of why did you change something that didn’t need fixing.
hehehe comon people, you could have fun with them just like the racial traits but you can never take them seriously. I seem to remember them lagging way behind me like mini pets do, do they still do that ??? i will have to check now.
yea, the boon itself will get the increase.
I know this is is unlikely but please is there any chance of the 15% endurance trait being binned and a 15% boon duration put in its place.
I really can’t see any guardian taking the extra endurance even in a party orientated build, seriously what would people prefer guards do, give of 15% endurance gain(when its up) or turn conditions into boons, apply a aoe blind etc.
Honor’s new trait gives 300 vit, the same as every stat point put into the line so really there should be no reason why virtues couldnt have a 30% boon duration, the same as every stat point put into the line, and this would bring our boon duration back to where it was pre-patch. TBH even if it was just 15% i would be more than tempted.
I’ve changed mine to traveler, Never going to make up for loosing 30% boon dura but I am enjoying them. Expensive though.
I’d sooner it was something more neutral that worked whether running into battle or retreating. Just something simple like “Greasy Fast Speed muhahahaha”
thanks for such a quick response.
Its a simple one really, could anyone please tell me if I can now use Sigil of Accuracy and Sigil of Force together on same 2 handed weapon? (7% crit + 5% pwr) Thanks in advance.
Been telling people of the benifits of scepter for a long time, not that anyone listerns
Just being able to leave melee and go ranged / kiting about is most useful than any weapon combination.
The scepter misslies may be slow and easy to dodge but good, thats the other player wasting a dodge on a crappy scepter 1 skill and its the caste rate that matters most and the scepter is quick in this regard.
It is also one of out most powerful dps weapons and works brilliantly with shield. Wiki claims 2 skill is, im quoting:- Relative to the channel and recharge time, this is the most powerful single skill in the game if all hits connect.
Throw the chains out first to bump it even higher.
YES !! Immolator, EXACTLY.
why say guardians are in a good place (barely) and then hit us with the biggest nerf since the retaliation one, which they have now improved marginally again (nothing like before) if you trait yet more points for it. Why would retaliation scale with condition dmg anyway? My thoughts are that maybe there is a half decent burn / retaliation build in there somewhere but seriously its going to be meh at best and who can be bothered when it means v weak survivability. To confound such a build further many of our traits proc when boons are applied not when conditions are given.
And please people stop it with the extra sigil meaning super guardian nonsense, every class has access to.
On another note, without boon duration many of us are loosing much swiftness, so we either have to break out the staffs or change our runes. This pigeon hole is getting tight, can I have another air hole please.
Yea they have, getting use to it but it’s just getting boring now. Always small nerfs but this time it feels a bit more than usual, at least to my playstyle and build.
Take away 50% of our vigor for a lot of builds (vigor = 100% endurance gain) and given us a 15% endurance gain on a grand-master skill ON a passive effect so I’m guessing it goes into CD and in case your wondering the 15% doesnt stack with vigor when it is up. Thats not just weak, its insulting.
300 vit is the most pointless trait ever because of the line it is in, there are much better options.
Do Anet rly think a burn build is a viable or something ??? just maybe if torch skills BURNT otherwise plz don’t.
Boon duration nerf effects guardians more than any other class so thats another kick.
I thought we was going to get a dmg buff, i guess they mean the 33% fire duraction or maybe I am missing something.
I’ve weathered many a nerf since game was released but this might be final straw for guardian.
As a starting area I did find it a bit confusing but now I tend to head there because I just know exactly where everything is.
