No they didn’t, I got my HoT from amazon and it came with the disk. (that doesn’t help for looking for a cash purchase though).PoF is a code while in pre-purchase, but who really knows after the 22nd, but I suspect your are right for PoF, but not HoT.
(BTW an online search of the 3 EB games stores in my area still have HoT in store—disk or not, don’t know, but one could make a cash purchase there. Maybe that could happen for for PoF after release)

PoF— seems to be nothing but a gold sink to me and most likely the last nail in the coffin. Major mistake in the direction of the game and it will cost them (imho and I entitled to it).

I got the HoT boxed version with disk in Canada. But no big deal. What really bugs me that I can no longer get retail gem cards in Canada (you can from secondary rip off sellers on amazon.ca for 4x their actual value, but that is another story).

can you buy them right off the trading post ?? with out a tax ? here in the us where I live at If I remember right if I bought gems off the trading post I had no tax but if I had a gem card I got taxed for it .

but will say I am not sure if this has changed as of late far as tax goes in my county as I not bought gems at all in a year or so . as I been using gold to gems .

Haven’t bought them with real money for a long time. US-CND conversion is expensive as well as CC charges for buying in american funds. Ditto why I hope I can find a Canadian seller for PoF. I believe digital river is what is used for real money purchases from Anet (please correct me if I am wrong). I have made various purchases from other companies (software etc) through digital river and I always had Canadian prices/currency offered. Even though more than US retail, there was no bank rate conversion or extra CC charges so in the long run it was fair. As for retail taxes applied for digital purchases, that would be a no. So I see absolutely no reason why Anet couldn’t ensure that purchase(s) with real money be in the buyers currency (adjusted for the differences). Steam does it easy. If the gem cards are considered ‘gift cards’ there is no tax.

You’re going to get the same responses since the game came out. The PvE players are frightened and literally shake at the thought of having someone send them a duel request.

Every major MMO that features dueling has an option to ignore duel requests so this is not an excuse.

Their other excuse is “I don’t want duels to clutter my precious Lions Arch!” but they’re the FIRST ONES to fill LA with dumb halloween costume fights.

There’s zero reason not to have dueling in the game. It’s a fun way for friends to test builds against each other while you wait to start a dungeon.

Stop taking the game so seriously Who cares if people duel near you.

This is a good example of what i mean with ‘some people don’t accept no for an answer’.

Instead of advocating your case by sticking to the pro’s of dueling and even come up with solutions that could contribute to it, you resort to kitten on the motives of people who are against it.

This is the very example of why I don’t want to see it in the game tbh. This need to insult, or atack personally someone with a different opinion

I was never scared of duel requests or dueling, though I thought they were a waste of time.

However in the past, the people who I knew who were into dueling, by and large, were people I had no interest in playing with. They don’t share my interests. They don’t build my community.

However many of those same people from my past are good at trolling and insulting. Now I’m not saying that people that what it in this game or this thread are like that. I am saying that it will have an affect on the direction of the community whether those who are pro believe it or not.

The more features you put in PvE that are competitive, the more likely more competitive people will spend time in PvE, and this game was designed with cooperative not competitive PvE

Every time a competitive element goes into PvE, like competing for things to pick up at certain dynamic events, the community has something to say about it.

This isn’t just some blind fear of someone asking me to duel. This is an active solution to keeping the game moving in the direction that most appeals to me, just as those pro dueling are trying to keep the game moving in the direction that appeals to them.

We all have that right.

But when you start taking personal pot shots at people, or say they’re scared, just because they disagree with you, you’re treading pretty close to breaking forum rules.

100% agree. This is exactly why most don’t want dueling in PvE. Some advocates exemplify the most negative aspects of MMO simply because they can’t have their way. (besides completely ignoring past posts why the dev won’t do it).

Unidentified gear need some work to make it good
- Do not charge us for opening it. Please, I have my finger cramping from opening 250 champion bags, now I have to pay for it too?

PoF definitely need some tweak, maybe that’s why they give us beta test on the map and character

Other than that, I think this PoF will be a success

I can live with most of what is being introduced except for that. And the salvage kits (salvage all) shouldn’t touch the UI gear drops. Additionally forcing one to do Hearts so one can pay (too much)to RNG id gear needs to be reconsidered and redesigned.

If they leave this as is, I don’t share your feeling of success.

It would be awesome if you could challenge a random person to a duel.

For those scared of being spammed: By default everyone should have “Allow duel invites” on decline. Nothing will change for those that don’t want to duel. Everything will be the same for them.

For those scared of toxic players: There are always toxic players no matter what game content you are playing.

People have been asking for this little system for years.

this is my feedback on path of fire . at least they got that much right about it . after I told some one I was going to buy the game . I made the choice to wait till this beta weekend to go over the demo its self and make my mind up on it that way . instead of going right out and pre buying the new pack .

that said I had to change my mind now and not buy the new pack . till I see changes and if I do not see some of the need changes when the game comes out then I will not be buying it .

here is some of my reasons for not buying path of fire . instanced content right out of the gate. the story its self is hap hashed together tossed in with a boss fight .

next Unidentified gear had that in the first guild wars it was ok for that game . but it is not ok for this game guild wars2 even tho its a nice flash back to guild wars its self .honestly truth be told in guild wars 2 its a major turn off for me .

Dang, it’s a darned timed annoying mini game similar to HoT adventures. Really? Hated mini games with a passion. They are fine on their own for fun or rewards but should never be tied to a mastery. So sad to hear this. I may try the demo when I get some time, but this really killed my enthusiasm for the EXP.

Did you mean the Gems??? If so you missed the notice on purchase page of up to 72 hrs. There have been multiple and redundant threads on the same issue. As well if you look at some the other threads you would see that it may take even longer due to demand and people creating multiple tickets. If you create a second ticket, your request even takes longer—like to the end of the line. Impatience, lack of research and not understanding how Anet supports works is not Anets’ fault at all.

nope. my physical copy ( HoT, Amazon.ca ) came with a dvd, as did the core game
(EB Games).
Not saying you are wrong, but both models may be available depending on the retailer.

In Canada we have to pay in US dollars, not Canadian dollars. Then the CC company charges an exorbitant exchange fee plus an administration charge making the game far more expensive. (ditto for gem btw). Still hoping for a Canadian retailer. At least Eur and GB can use their own currency but ya the conversion should be done correctly.

You have no idea and you cannot ‘guarantee" Anet will not make people wait. You are entitled to you guesstimate, but based on on Anets’ record, there isn’t much you can trust that they say now.

Apparently it has become a “thing” to intentionally place a merchant directly on top of a meta event chests so when you try to open the chest you end up talking to a merch instead. Now I can take a joke, but the last AB event had 4 merch set on top of the major chests. Yes, if I click four or five or seven times I will eventually be able to latch onto the chest w/my mouse. Yeah, I know this is “how” to get around it.

The point I’m making is there are jokes and there are jerks. This new thing carried to extremes is the act of the latter. I wonder how many people thought they opened the chest and ran on to the next one without realizing what happened. It wouldn’t be so bad but the frequency of this is aggravating.

Always jerks in any game, and this game has more than its fair share at times. However there are far more players that are willing to assist, help, guide, port, donate, etc. It’s just a few immature players actions stand out more than those of the helpful majority.

I haven’t been able to find cards in Canada for years now. As for Target, they have failed in Canada and closed up shop.

Who exactly is in favor of having XP gain locked behind raids? Not everyone agrees that it’s a problem and even many that do agree feel it’s not urgent or perhaps not even important enough for ANet to divert resources to address.

That said, I otherwise agree that encouraging people to spend 50-100g for a raid run is counter to the idea that “anyone can do escort”.

There is no resources to divert, gaming 101 student could change it during an unpaid internship.
The 1%‘r elite would agree it isn’t an issue and most would agree it isn’t urgent but . But it is a nothing more than a restriction.

No, there are all sorts of reasons why that’s not a realistic option for a huge group of players. (Plus, it’s not as easy for some players — those who have completed raids are going to have trouble seeing why, just as those who haven’t completed any encounters have trouble understanding why raiders keep saying it’s not hard.)

Well, one can change perspective on that. There are guilds that sell raid boss kills. I googled a bit but couldn’t find what the price is these days. Maybe 50 gold, 100? I’m sure one of the raid guilds who do Escort with 8 or 9 people anyway will carry a person for 10 gold each. It’s not much money for them, but it’s basically free. They’ll probably put it into the guild bank.

That is much better than sneaking into a group to get carried, which will make nobody happy. So my perspective then is that unlocking the raid mastery line costs XXg and 15 to 20 minutes of your time. That’s the price, simple. The other mastery lines also have prices, you need to spend time on doing the story to get to the maps. And getting gold to buy a raid kill also takes time, maybe even less than doing the story. You always pay with time, and most people probably already have 100+ gold in form of crafting materials in their storage that they can sell.

And that statement does more to promote the ops’ stance and those that are against having xp locked behind raids better than anything I could have said. Pay us somebody money and you can unlock. That is a path anet should have put an end to immediately. Time is one thing but money and being kicked because one is not elite enough is something else altogther.

Legendary GS Eternity clearly lets me know day or night. But I agree with you if you don’t have Eternity

Bottom line, I really don’t care about all the arguments that are for the EXP bars being locked behind doing a a part of the game designed for the 1%rs. I d not want any anything to do with raids that were made for the elite minority. All I see is EXP points being awarded and my EXP bar locked and not moving and as a daily player it just urinates me off!!!! Anet, WTG!!!!!! You have succeeded in alienating me and many other players (imho) because you are making the the game for the few instead of all.
