Why are Raids 3 hours?

Every organized group I have ever been in, subbed in, or tried to join had a strict 3 hour schedule. PUGs are a different matter; that’s more about how long until people leave than any type of scheduling.

Why are Raids 3 hours?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

I’m wondering how the standard of the 3 how raid session came to be. The reason I ask is that, based on my experience, it seems that the last hour of a 3 hour session is generally characterized by exhaustion, missed mechanics, decreased dps, and general increased annoyance.

If we were to view raid performance be time, I would think it would look like a poisson distribution: ramp up sharply in the first half hour as you get back into the swing of things, about an hour of peak quality performance, some falling performance as you get tired but still enough to be worthwhile for the next half hour, before basically bottoming out and plowing ahead on determination and willpower to go on at the end.

Wouldn’t 2 hours be a more logical length?

What is going on with the Jotun vendor in Bitterfrost? A big deal was made out of putting him in the game, but the only way to acquire them is by 3 story achievements, giving exactly 6 fragments or 2 uses of the vendor. Has he been abandoned? Will we ever see another way to get fragments?

Repair Mirkwise Waypoint (Brisban)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

The Mirkwise waypoint in Brisban Wildlands needs to be fixed. It is the best point for the entire southwest area of the map, and having it offline makes access to the tangle root and mirkwood areas of the map more practically achieved by walking in from drytop than any active point on Brisban. Out of all the waypoints taken offline during the S1-S2 story, it is the only one that is not reasonably covered by other waypoints.

Boogiepop Void.6473

Lack of Waypoints has been a issue since season 2 and Silverwastes. Having really only 1 usable waypoint on the map, located at the far ed from most of the meta, is a massive annoyance. I do agree that the base maps were a bit much (although ironically they picked the one Waypoint on Brisban to take offline that we actually need), but the current amount is too much in the other direction.

Alternate method to get Ornate Guild Armor

The guild commendation cost wouldn’t seem so bad if they would do ANYTHING to update or at least add more variety to guild missions and content. The Ore that takes tons of runs at DS is the icing on the cake of doing the same thing over and over and over again.

Boogiepop Void.6473

I don’t have a problem with there being an extra cost beyond 10 guild commendations. But that cost should absolutely NOT be Crystalline Ore in any quantity. At least not unless they put in way more ways to get Ore, and make that group content you can do with guildies.

The way DS reset works (throwing people into random maps) actually DISCOURAGES running it with your guild, and as mentioned once PoF drops the populations are going to drop through the floor, making completion in general harder.

the way of aqcuireing this armor is in the name itself…

Ornate “Guild” Armor, now where do you think one can get guild armor from?

it’s obvious is it not?

And you get it from the guild hall. The guild commendations make sense. The Crystalline Ore does not. What does running Dragon Stand 50 times have to do with the guild?

Boogiepop Void.6473

I hope a new acquisition method for the recipes for Ornate Guild Armor is added in PoF. 40 Ore per armor piece require a ton of running Dragon Stand, which is the only source (and probably the other HoT maps to get the funds to buy machetes).

It would be really annoying to have a whole new expansion to play, but continuing to need to constantly run DS. Especially considering DS will in all likelihood rapidly become uncompleteable as people move on to the new content and map population drops through the floor.

Quite frankly, we need more ways to get ore anyway, but at least unbind Guild-related content from Dragon Stand. It never made sense linking guild content to DS in the first place.

Why are outfits easier than armors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

They have all the same components, and have to fit all the same character models. Why are armors so much harder to make than outfits? If it’s just a matter of outfits not always having enough discreet bits to fill out a full armor set, I doubt anyone would mind if some armors didn’t have some pieces (especially since the missing bits are probably shoulders, which can be hidden anyway). It’s not like we don’t have lots of isolated armor pieces in the game already, so it’s not a technical limitation requiring that all sets be complete.

It just doesn’t make sense. From a graphical standpoint, armors and outfits are identical. It should take no more work to do one than the other. On the technical/database side, making 1 item vs 6 items should not be 6 times as hard. Yes, you have to assign dye channels to each part and maybe put them in drop tables, but that should barely register vs all the modeling work, which has to be done for outfits anyway.

Let’s take the Daydreamer’s Finery outfit. It doesn’t have gloves or shoulders, but it already basically has got a head, torso, legging, and boot pieces (the male boots and leggings run into each other a bit, but that would have been a relatively minor thing to look at at the time it was made, and there is a pretty clear seem where it could be broken now). Why couldn’t it have been an armor instead of an outfit, to allow people more variety? or perhaps an outfit AND discrete pieces, so people could use it together (without cost of transmutes) or separately (but with transmute cost).

Still Can't Get Into Challenge Modes

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

I can’t get into challenge modes. I don’t have any friends who do fractals, and LFG won’t allow new people, only experienced. I tried making my own group for new people but people would literally join and then leave when they saw no one experienced was in the group already.

Basically in order to do it I either:

A) have to suddenly find 4 friends who like fractals, have 150 AR already, and are interested in doing the challenge mode.
B) Find a random experienced person to lead the group, because no one is interested in going in as an all new group.
C) Go back in time and do the challenge mode within the first 12-24 hours of release, which is the only time it’s OK to not already have done it, apparently.

Equalize Dragon Stand Lane Times

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

The time to complete lanes in Dragon Stand needs to be more even. There is a large variation in how long lanes takes to complete, which is unfair to all parties. Those in the short lanes are sitting around doing the gate defense over and over, while those in the slow lanes are getting yelled at to hurry up. The three lanes should each take bout the same time to complete, so everyone is working together instead of wasting time.

Kicked from complete DS to incomplete

Boogiepop Void.6473

Completed Dragon Stand and ~5 min later the map just closed, kicking everyone out to random incomplete maps. Couldn’t map complete or get many pods. Couldn’t join people on completed map either (via LFG).

If we have completed we should NEVER be kicked out, and certainly not to an incomplete map. All DS instances are NOT created equal. At the very least, we should be able to LFG back into a finished map.

We spent over an hour EARNING those rewards. If you are going to make such a timegated event map, we shouldn’t be able to arbitrarily lose everything we worked hard for.

Season 1 Boxes - Duplication Needs To Go

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Boogiepop Void.6473

The duplication of account bound items in these boxes is a major issue. Minis, skins, passes, and items that you have LITERALLY 0 ability to use and can’t sell are a huge letdown and, since these are bought with gems, a waste of money. If you are going to put in tons of account bound on acquire items, give us sprockets on duplication or outright reroll anything that we already have.

HoT Elite Spec Unlock Reorder

I’m happy to see you have reworded the unlock order for the PoF Elite Specs. Could you go back and do the same for the HoT specs? I know it wouldn’t affect a lot of us who already did them but it would greatly improve the experience for new people coming in, like those who got both expansions and are trying to do HoT before PoF drops.

Dear ANet, re: PoF Spec Unlocks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

I honestly think the bigger problem is that there’s no real progression with elite specs. If you slot them in before you master them, you’re just gimping yourself, so it “forces” you to keep it on the backburner until you have it fully unlocked.

I don’t know what the best solution is, but I definitely see that as a design problem they should try to iron out.

They specifically addressed this by making so the first 5 unlocks get you all the way down the middle of the tree this time, instead of doing all the minors, then all the majors, etc. as in HoT. This is specifically in response to exactly the complaint you are making about how HoT did it. I wish they would go back and reorder the HoT specs this way too for new players.

Scourge Shades need allegiance coloring

Warrior Vengence (Down 3) should be replaced

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

Vengeance is not a good skill. It tends to result in you dying, rather than recovering, because it almost NEVER proc the full rez on kill part. This is by far inferior compared to any other class, where the skills in general help give you a chance to live. It should really be replaced with something more usable or at least rebalanced to actually help you stay alive instead of guaranteeing death.

Elite Spec Beta Feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

Experience more limited that I would have liked being restricted to PVP and WVW.

Renegade – Shortbow and F abilities are excellent but legend feels weak. I can see the spec being taken for shortbow and F abilities but not using the legend.

Weaver – Very hard to get a handle on. Interface issues with the element tabs not properly highlighting/enlarging is still an issue. Would be nice to have something more prominent than the tiny bar over the skills as an indicator, as that bar is hard to see. Maybe is it were at least over the dodge bar and thicker, rather than tiny and smushed in between skills and element bar. An F5 skill that swaps the current element pair would be helpful.

Soulbeast – Very underwhelming. The beast mode doesn’t feel that good and the extra powers don’t feel very strong.

Holosmith – Seems very OP right now, especially at close range. Well designed, but the lack of heat mechanics on older skills discourages using the non-holosmith skills, which removes kit play from the engi, or discourages paying attention to heat other than the explosion.

Scourge – Hard to maneuver the shades. Seems very weak against high mobility targets.

Deadeye – Good, but seems like it will have trouble with mobile targets or at close range. Awkward coming into and out of crouch; might want to make the move keys pull you out as well. Some of the rifle skills seem like slight variations on each other (2 is single shot, 3 is identical multi-shot).

Mirage – Very mobile and hard to pin down. The odd dichotomy between how some illusions react and others don’t to some skills is an issue.

Firebrand – Good, but not sure how much use the F3 condition book will see vs F1 and F2. Mantras will have to prove their usefullness vs other skills that don’t have an inactive cast in the middle.

SpellBreaker – Seems very basic. Killing your own boons may be thematic but feels horrible. No one is going to want to be around a spellbreaker if this goes on. I’m sorry, but this needs to be changed to rip only enemy boons and allied conditions, or you have made the most anti-teamplay class in the game.

General – Mantras don’t show the right cooldown for the final cast.

It might be a mess but it is still active, the devs purposely consolidated other QoL threads to that in favor of having one single thread, and eventually, this is going to move off the front page to get lost with all the older threads that would have to be found by manual digging as the search function on this forum doesn’t work.

Mystic Forge:

  • Let us queue up repeated mystic forge transmutations instead of having to re-add the items over and over.
  • Remember forged items (MF recipes) so we don’t constantly have to jump in and out of the game to look things up on the wiki. The discovery aspect is only fun the first time. Also let us just find recipes for high-level stuff like legendaries that we just look up on the wiki. We shouldn’t have to leave the game to play it.
  • Let us access the bank from the mystic forge panel. Ideally this would function as it does in the crafting panel (and in conjunction with MF recipes), but at least add an access tab so we can move relevant items to inventory without running back and forth to the bank.\
  • Expand the left panel. We need more space for manipulating the panels, rather than a giant, mostly empty art panel that has no function.

Crafting:

  • Let us auto-craft sub-items in a recipe instead of having to dig down and do every item one by one. This also avoids overcrafting since you can’t accidentally craft 3 of something when the final item needs only 2, etc.
  • Remember selected sorting/categories in the crafting panel (so we don’t have to turn off crafting levels every time we log in).
  • Expand the left panel. We need more space for manipulating the panels, rather than a giant, mostly empty art panel that has no function.

Inventory:

  • Put a button for Deposit All right on the interface, instead of in a sub menu.
  • Have an option to put such a button for sort as well.
  • Have an option to outline or otherwise mark non-sorting and invisible slots when bag view is off.
  • Ensure that, if possible, when two one-handed weapons are replaced by a two-handed weapon, both weapons end up in the same bag as the two-handed weapon came from. Currently, the off-hand weapon can end up at the first available slot, which can cause issues with organization and can make it visible when it shouldn’t be if an invisible bag was being used for spare weapons.
  • Allow for the behavior of bags or slots (invisible, autogather X, etc.) to be set, rather than being based on buying a special bag type.
  • Auto-stack shared inventory slots.
  • Key/map item wallet. For example the 9 map event items from Bitterfrost should at not be taking up inventory space on every character. This discourages going back to the map because you would rather just not have this junk in your inventory.
  • Account bind map items instead of soulbinding them. For example the 9 map event items from Bitterfrost should at least be able to be swapped to other characters.
  • Options for displaying multiple currencies (and key levels, if in wallet) at the bottom of the inventor, ie show Gold, Karma, Gears, and Crowbars when in Verdant Brink, as these are the relevant things to know in VB. Also an option to display on the UI somewhere so they can be tracked without opening inventory.

Fractals:

  • Make ascended ring, trinket, etc. drops stat-selectable as armor and weapons are, and add HoT and PoF stats to the selection pool for all ascended drops. Right now most non-armor/weapon ascended drops are so low value due to useless stat combos that they aren’t even salvaged (not worth the very expensive ascended tools), they are just deleted. This would also remove the multiple tabs from the vendors for separate core and HoT stat selection, although this may run into issues with there being multiple classes of account. At least improved the labeling to make it easier to tell which stats you are looking at.
  • Allow consume all on encrypted fractal boxes (decrypt as many as you have keys).
  • Show fractal levels available on daily pane for daily fractals, instead of making us go into the achieve panel to figure out the numbers.
  • Show fractal identity on recommended fractals.

Action Camera:

  • Fix areas where action camera breaks interaction (for example, during the cannon sections of the final core story instance).
  • Fix cases where even though you are attacking something it is not targeted.
  • Fix cases where the target will shift back to the main boss even though you have targeted on minions (for example during intermediate phases of the Gerent fight) or will shift to minions even though you have targeted the main boss (for example the bandits during Sabetha).
  • Fix cases where camera interacts badly with terrain, rendering players blind due to the camera being behind them (ie when walls are too tight and you have to look in a certain direction).

Boogiepop Void.6473

Updated based on feedback and with suggestions from redditors.

Emergency Priority:

  • Color Blind Mode! There are people who can’t play or can’t play all modes because they literally can’t see things like ability marker circles.

General:

  • Build templates – let us save armor/weapon/equipment/trait builds and restore them with a single click. Current setup discourages experimentation.
  • Clothing templates – let us save skin setups and restore them at will (just charge the transmutation charges as a group).
  • Dye templates – Save dye configurations and apply at will to any armor or outfit we want (go by order for dealing with lower numbers of channels).
  • Let us consume multiple food/utility items at once and stack the duration, instead of having to constantly mouse over and check our skill bar (very useful for raids). Note this is different from the metabolic and utility primers as they extend the normal duration to match their own, whereas this is just stacking the normal durations.
  • Give us a library in our home instance to store book items so they aren’t clogging inventory. Otherwise we just delete them and read the wiki if we want to go back.
  • Tonic wardrobe, housing all infinite and finite tonics and accessible by any character whenever they want to use a tonic transform. (Suggested by Grey Winters)
  • Show actual amounts for the character you are on for percentage food on mouseover (ie show what 3% or ferocity into power will actually mean for the character you are logged in as).
  • Equip second ring and accessory with menu (ie “equip offhand”) as can be done with weapons, instead of always replacing the first ring or accessory unless manually dragging in the equipment menu. (Suggested by Gnobold)
  • Icon in LFG for groups that shows they are in full maps (but doesn’t show if you are in the map in question). Would save a lot of trying to change maps and getting an error message.
  • Ability to lock or queue reward tracks for PVP and WVW rather than defaulting back to a random track (usually CoF) when your current one is completed. (Suggested by Bunter)
  • Option to switch guide between story and event/map completion mode, without having to finish the story. (Suggested by Mea)
  • Option to have chat display region next to all messages. Saves a lot of “are you NA or EU?” when trying to gather groups or set up events.
  • Option to display account name or selected nickname next to all messages. Helps identify people, as most people are known by account, not character, of which they have many differently named.

Classes & abilities:

  • Animation Lock – Abilities with animation locks (ie Hundred Blades) should immediately unlock on hitting the dodge key. The need to manually unlock by moving a little before dodge will respond makes these abilities unwieldy and leads to TONS of missed dodges.
  • Classes with alternate forms – Have a way to look at the alternate form abilities without actually transforming. Especially pertinent for Druid and Necro, since their transforms are on a timer and have to be built up by combat, so it is hard to transform just to be able to read the abilities.
  • Stealth abilities – An actual countdown would make stealth much more usable, instead of the simple status icon we have now. Given how stealth works, something near the center of the screen would be more appropriate than a tiny icon in the status bar.
  • Engineer – Return from down/dead state in the same kit you were using when you went down, instead of resetting to default weapon.
  • Revenant Herald – The Channel wheel beneath the feet of a Rev in Glint makes it hard to see the terrain. An alternate tracking method would be of great help (perhaps next to the change legend icon or above the dodge bar).
  • Ranger – Sword 2 and 3 require so much room and are so hard to control that they make sword almost unusable in areas with complex terrain and/or lethal drops. A slight rework to how they function to make them more controllable and less subject to terrain vagaries would bring the weapon back to usability.

TP

  • Let us queue up items to buy and sell on the TP and buy or sell them all at once.
  • Search for skin instead of specific weapons. Getting hundreds of duplicates due to stat variations when you are just looking to unlock and salvage is not useful.
  • Search for locked skins.

Too Much Dismounting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Boogiepop Void.6473

Too many things make you dismount. There are a ton of things that cause dismounting that really shouldn’t. Harvesting, looking at the bounty board, talking to NPCs (Even NPCs that immediately start mounted events), using the bank, Etc. This turns the X key into the most pushed thing in the whole desert.

The default behavior right now seems to be IF doing anything THEN dismount. This behavior rapidly turns mounting into the most annoying thing ever as you have to do it CONSTANTLY. Interacting is too frequent and too much a core part of the game to trigger a dismount in all circumstance. There should be things that trigger dismounts AND things that don’t. Things that you do continuously should be in the latter category.

Random NPCs near important stuff

OK ANet. We already have the annoying violets NPC next to the bank in LA. Now you have random NPC standing RIGHT NEXT TO THE BOUNTY BOARDS in Ammun. They are constantly being interacted with instead of the boards. These are even worse than the violets NPC because they bring up a dialogue that has to be actively dismissed, instead of just an annoying text line.

Please establish a “safe radius” around important things, like the banks, the tradings posts, and now the bounty boards, where there won’t be other intractable NPCs. If I go up to these and hit F, I should NEVER get a random NPC instead.

Shattered Observatory Riddled With Issues

Boogiepop Void.6473

The Observatory has a ton of issues.

  • The eye mechanic only works part of the time (note: I use action cam, so this could be partly an interaction issue with that). You can look away and still take the fear or conditions.
  • Jumping over the black rings only sometimes works. Even if it does not apparently hit you it can still sometimes apply agony and other statuses.
  • Solar blooms do not move logically if close to you. You can hit them one way and they will go a completely different way.
  • Gladiator and golem attacks apply damage and conditions even if not apparently hitting or dodged.
  • Instant kill radius for the beam does not match visuals.
  • Possible to fall out of the vortexes during the shaman fight and die.
  • Containment skull will attach/stay attached to downed or dead characters.
  • Timing to avoid full aoes after the CC fazes of Virrastra fight is too particular.
  • Arrk’s defiance bar is too big for most parties.
  • During gladiator, the timing of the mesmer blades with the black rings is such that it is nearly impossible to doge both, since you are still in the animation from dodging the mesmer blades when the ring arrives.
  • Virrastra fight is too much about covering everything with AOEs and tanking it for lower-defense classes to avoid going down repeatedly.

Expertise & Concentration are pointless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boogiepop Void.6473

Boogiepop Void.6473

Expertise and concentration should have been removed, rather than emphasized. All that expertise and concentration do is obscure what you are actually getting behind a division by 15; they have no real function not already served by %duration. Instead of making it easy for players to see what is happening, it adds a layer of math to obfuscate the effect of upgrades. It’s not a highly difficult layer (just set up a slide rule next to your monitor set to *1/15), but it’s a needless layer. If everything were simply in %duration to start with, there would be no confusion.

Not arguing about if there needed to be nerfs or not, just saying it would have been simpler to just apply the nerfs directly to %duration and change everything to remove concentration and expertise altogether.

While it’s true not everyone has the provisioner, you aren’t giving up the provisioner to get the cat. Using something that is persistent but required work to unlock is different from giving up an item that you world then have to reacquire with days of work.

I said you were an OUTLIER, as in you are statistically at the short end of GoB attainment speed.

Claws and such drop all over the game, not only as the final reward for a track. Most people don’t have tons of GoB laying around that they can just throw one at a cat.

Also as a pint of comparison the yellow car only wants a cheap food item.

First of all I think you are an outlier as far as how fast you can get GoB. But regardless, you are still talking a component of a legendary weapon for a home instance cat. That’s way too much. Think of the gold value of that gift of battle.

The Yellow Catmander takes a little food to get for your home instance, but the Blue one wants a Gift of Battle. That’s a bit much. A Gift of Battle takes a while to get, whereas the food you just get from a provisioner. Please have the Blue Catmander take some kind of food too. A legendary weapon ingredient is too much.

It’s not about “can’t get in”. The megaservers ensure that can’t happen. But if large numbers of people on the map are just running node to node (and some dedicated farmers do that because they consider the event rewards on lower tier maps not with the time), it becomes hard for those who are trying to do events to gather large numbers of people.

In essence, the argument that lower tier mats bring people back to maps can be self-defeating if they come back to the maps but refuse to participate in an effort to gather fast and get out.

Is it worth getting the Mistlock pass now that I have the Elon pass? Sure I have to wait for the Elon pass to activate, but otherwise what point is there in buying the Mistlock?

People who go to maps to gather don’t participate in the maps. You end up with lots of bodies but no more event participation; possibly less since the maps fills and people actually interested in doing things on the map can’t get in.

Have sigils and insignias be freely swappable. Current setup GREATLY discourages experimentation (possible 50+ gold costs to try something new).

This one is a feature of legendary gear !

You shouldn’t need legendary gear to be allowed to actually experiment with the build system. A small percentage of the community has legendaries. Should the vast majority of the community be restricted to using metabattle to set a build and forget it just so the few with legendaries can have this feature to themselves?

Also you can’t change sigils on weapons even if they are legendary.

Synthesizers are random. They fill the same niche as the small amount of random drops we get now. The biggest issue is you can’t TARGET your gathering. If you need something specific, say iron, you can’t use synthesizers or random drops to work on getting what you need, you just have to hope it happens to show up.

If there was no titles in cms then the groups for said cms would be a clusterkitten. No thank you.

But because of titles no one can get into challenge motes. I tried both to join groups and to gather a group. Experienced groups won’t let new players join. Trying to make your own group fails because no one wants to join a group without experienced people. This chicken and the egg results in no one who hasn’t done it already being able to do it.

And to give an idea of how fast this happens, this was already occurring within 1 DAY of the release of the new fractal, so literally only the people who did it in the first 12 or so hours of the fractal being available are being allowed to participate.
