Which is my point: I don’t need to replay the whole EPISODE, just a couple CHAPTERS. Especially pertinent since I don’t really want to do the mostly dialogue funeral chapter again. Is there some way to just replay the parts I actually need to for the achievements, or am I stuck doing the entire thing over.

Southsun Cove Abandonment

I am not often an advocate for removing content; in fact, I am usually for putting content back in. However, Southsun has many structural issues that may not be solvable and are getting worse, and the game may be better off without it.

  • The entire map is HIGHLY dependent on large group content. From the camp capture to the karka queen, there is very little you can do on your own or even with smaller groups. Unfortunately, there is also little incentive to do anything on Southsun, leading to a downward spiral where these days none of the events get done.
  • Even moving around the map in general needs groups. The enemies and enemy distributions are tuned for large groups, meaning that single players, if they can survive at all, can’t actually engage or farm, but just have to run past everything.
  • Karka in particular are enemies that are designed for group engagements; a single person cannot in general reasonably engage a full-size Karka in a reasonable amount of time, and the density of them easily leads to inadvertently aggroing multiples. We even see this on Ember Bay, where the Karka beach is avoided completely except for events.
  • The map is perpetually contested, because no one is doing the events, meaning you can only reliably access 1 or 2 of the waypoints.
  • The guild content on the map, particularly the race, is considered so onerous (again, due to the lack of the map being populated and cleared) that most guilds won’t bother doing it, instead opting to forego the guild credit for that week. Not helped by all transportation being rerouted to the main encampment due, again, to the constant state of contestation of most of the waypoints.
  • The jumping puzzle is generally considered the worst in the game, and is often intentionally avoided, even when it is a daily.
  • There is absolutely no story connection to any other part of the game. No active story content has anything to do with it, nor will any likely have anything to do with it in the future, and none of the content on the island creates any compelling reason to visit or return.
  • The map has insufficient rewards for the level of effort it demands. Even karka trains, once a thing, have mostly fallen apart as the one reward that could attract people, Karka Shells, is just not sufficient.
  • Southsun is not needed for world completion or Legendaries, and doesn’t even provide the possibility of a Black Lion Key, since it is the only map, other than cities, guaranteed to give a Transmutation Charge, and unlike cities you don’t need it for something else.

The only reason to go at this point is that a few of the collections need items, primarily from the Karka Queen event, but even that is only just barely managing to get people onto the map for one or two runs at that event IN A WEEK. At most other times the map is just abandoned in favor of any other map in the game.

Given all these issues, and the low chance that anything will or can be done to revitalize the population of the map, it may be in the interest of the game to just remove it and redirect attention elsewhere, both to avoid annoying players who are forced to go there and unable to finish events and to allow for a more meaningful redirection of resources elsewhere. As it stands, Southsun is and will likely continue to be the least visited, least completed, most underpopulated, most uninteresting, and most unfun map in the game.

I’ve done the event in every way I can think of. I’m limited by how fast other people can get to the even when it starts. If the achievement is so limited that you can only get it if you have people there before it even begins, then there is a real problem here. Nonetheless, I am pretty sure that I have completed the event in all the different stages, unless there is one that is so unannounced and short that I have never managed to be there for it.

It’s not that I can’t tell when I am there, it’s that I can’t tell ahead of time., so short of memorizing ever vent on the island, I cannot pre-plan a route.

Also my map has always rotated. I thought that was just how it always worked. I wasn’t aware there was an option for it to not rotate.

When I am on Ember Bay, the thermal vent arrows are rotating at a different rate than the map. This means that they NEVER point the way they shoot you, rendering them useless.

Why not just put it back in and adjust the rewards accordingly for the difficulty? Add a small warning to the choice dialogue that it is harder, maybe rate it at level 70 instead of 55. Let us have the complete story for those who want it, and if you don’t you can skip it.

Depending on people to remember EVERY TIME is clearly not a reliable method. This happens to people all the time. Maybe you have never done it, Silv, but I have been both the one who has and in matches with plenty of others who have done it. Whichever side has someone doing it typically loses, so it IS an unbalancing factor. There is no technical reason that you should have to do this manually; if they can change everything else they can change this too.

We set up weapons, sigils, runes, amulets, and traits desperately for PVP. Yet we don’t store those weapons and switch to them, unlike everything else, when we go to PVP. As a result, every day you see matches ruined because someone forgot to change from their PVE to their PVP weapon set. I myself have been the one committing this sin, going into matches only to try to fight and realize I am wielding a useless set of weapons. We shouldn’t have to remember this, just as we don’t have to remember to change our traits every time we change game type. It’s not like the fact that you changed to a new sword in your inventory matters in PVP, but it sure matter is you have a sword instead of a staff. Change the equipment when we go to and from PVP.

Anything that drops is in place of other things that didn’t. Since you can get the ascended mats elsewhere, take them out so we can get more stuff that only happens here.

For those wondering why I mention the duplication issue for ToT bags, I got 27! Onus, 14 Jailbroken and 12 Grim Pact, but almost nothing else from the rare tab (one each of endless batwing, Vssago, Nightwing, and Karka Helm), and I was running ATM as fast as it would reset the entire event. There is pretty clearly an issue with the distribution if things are skewed that badly.

General:

  • Bring back Lunatic Inquisition
  • Bring back Blood and Madness (if we aren’t getting new stuff, at least let’s not lose anything)
  • New stuff, not just a rehash
  • More doors, nodes, activities outside Lion’s Arch
  • More items for Candy Corn Cobs for those who don’t want minis or tonics
  • Adjust price of Halloween Pail to reflect market (it should not be cheaper to sell cobs and buy regular bags)
  • Provide recipe for crafting Endless Batwing Brew from Batwing Brew (Night Fury Skin should not be so RNG dependent; you already have to farm the Tattered Bat Wings)

Trick or Treat Bags:

  • Adjust drop tables of Trick-or-Treat bags to avoid massive duplication (people should not be getting the same rare item in 25+ quantities, while never seeing large portions of the drop table at all)
  • If Finishers are going to be such common drops, have a greater variety (most have so many of the two available that they won’t run out before NEXT Halloween)
  • Remove commonly available items (Bloodstone Dust, Empyreal Shards, Dragonite Ore, Charged Quartz Crystal, Essences of Luck, T6 Mats)
  • Remove Pillowcase from drop table once acquired (multiples are worthless)
  • Add Open all option for ToT bags.
  • Add consume all option for finishers
  • Give tonics vendor price so they can be easily disposed of

Mad King Says:

  • Correct Mad King Says area of activity to match the map graphic
  • Properly randomize him so he doesn’t do the same thing 15 times (yes, that does happen)
  • Fix his appearance so he isn’t invisible part of the time
  • Fix key awards so you don’t get shortchanged or counted as participating in one you didn’t participate in, but were in LA at the time it occurred.

Ascent to Madness:

  • Shorten the Mad Kings speech at the start of Ascent to Madness (AtM) and/or get rid of “mini Mad King Says” segment
  • “Mini Mad King Says” should not insta-kill all Necromancer minions
  • Make the DR on AtM clear (should not be able to return 8 hours later and still be under DR)
  • Have mobs in AtM drop loot
  • Correct platform distances to prevent some professions from suffering guaranteed falling death based on Vitality and/or lack of fall-mitigation trait.
  • Correct bug where Mad King returns to middle platform after going to the bottom
  • Provide mitigation measure for being feared off the platforms (rather than being stuck as dead for the rest of the run; no fun for anyone)

Mad King’s Labyrinth:

  • Give Viscount rewards commensurate with the length of his fight, to discourage skipping
  • Compensate for Zerg behavior in drop rates (large tendency for those not at the very front of the zerg to not get credit and loot for most of the mob kills)
  • Fix autoloot to work with chests from Lich and Viscount
  • Generally make more interesting and less grindy
  • Enable gliding in Labyrinth

Mad King Clock Tower:

  • Put in Normal instance (remove timers, remove pseudo-PVP)
  • Better Rewards (allow time to take chests, better chest at top for completions after first ever)

The Ranger is screwed for Melee. Sword basically involves throwing yourself all over the place, making it worthless in PVP where you need to stay in the cap zones, and Greatsword is too slow and telegraphed, making it too easy to dodge (and if you miss with the charge, you uncontrollably travel a large distance). And that’s it. There are no other melee options (offhand dagger doesn’t count; it’s only 1 skill). Your only choice is to run completely ranged and hope no one can completely negate ranged attacks… which of course a good number of classes can.

Extreme loading times

The loading times are getting to be very very bad. During this Halloween, loading into Lion’s Arch become a 10 min process. Now obviously this is a somewhat special case, but many of the other crowded maps like silverwastes, or Ember Bay have similar issues. The loading times need to be addressed. At the very least, a status indicator so we know we aren’t frozen would be nice.

The viscount is too long for his rewards. You can get more stuff by skipping him and killing regular mobs for the time you would have been fighting him. So efficiency causes people to skip him.

Autoloot fails to completely function in the labyrinth. The chests left by the greater door bosses are not being autoloot, causing a lot of people to miss the full loot drop from these events.

  • Extend selection bar to show 10 characters at once (1 for each class, plus another slot for key farming is the most common amount of characters)
  • Allow for custom ordering of characters, instead of forcing sorting by last access
  • Show/give way to check equipment (so you can tell who is ready to do fractals, raids, etc. and who is not)
  • Display Crafting level and active crafting types
  • Move character model up over selection bar (currently with asura in particular you can have trouble seeing models, and on others you can be completely unable to see boots)
  • Show achievements, particularly dailies, in selection (so you can pick the right character for it ahead of time and plan what you want to do)
  • Show map completion by area (so you don’t have to log in to figure out if you have finished a certain map or not
  • Change map completion listing so HoT and LW areas are also indicated, not just core Teria.
  • Show actual map location of character and not just map name
  • Indicate if character is dead or alive
  • Show PVP Rank and Track progress
  • Allow LFG from selection (so you can check before picking a character if you are going to be able to do content or not – Needs map info and equipment visible so you can tell if a char can get to and do the content)
  • Allow Guild chat from selection (for organizing, so events and activities are not slowed down by people having to switch characters)

I think that there could be hidden checkpoints that are required for progress but you can’t actually port to when you die. I can log out right before you normally would activate the first checkpoint. I log back in after the daily, go to the checkpoint, and no credit. I’m thinking that there’s another checkpoint somewhere in that lava tunnel you enter. If that’s true then perhaps there are others.

There is one on the skull on the left right before the lava fall that leads to the plane of the main caldera.

I spent over 3 hours trying and failing to get to even the second checkpoint in the Chalice, along with over 50 other players in my map instance. Frankly, if I keep trying to do that puzzle, I am going to get so kittening kittened at the game I will stop playing. I could live without doing it, except you put 4 Mursatt tokens inside the JP, and I need an Empyreal Eater since the only other one is bound to a seasonal event I wasn’t here for, something that should be separately addressed.

Move the tokens out of the jumping puzzle so you can finish the achievement without punching in your computer monitor. You shouldn’t have 2 achievements linked together like this in the first place, especially since several of the tokens are apparently in places you can’t get back from, and they certainly shouldn’t be combined when the JP is so hard that many players can’t do it. If people can and want to go through the JP for a mastery point, that is their choice, but the map collection should not also be involved with it.

The entire mess is nothing but finding the glitch path, blind gliding to spots that are indistinguishable from instant fall spots, and praying you don’t run into any instant slide locations while you try to land on 5 pixel wide landing locations. Half the time the only way to know where to go is to be psychic, because not only are the locations small and hard to find, but you can’t even see many of them before you start gliding toward them.

This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had in any game, and if there hadn’t been helpful and friendly players around, it probably would have driven me to stop playing the game in frustration, if this is ANets idea of good design. I did quit the puzzle in frustration, after 3 hours of no one on the entire map even being able to make it to the second checkpoint. Again, after 3 hours of trying, no one on the entire map, with over 50 payers trying, could get to the second checkpoint.

1-2 hours is indeed reasonable for a title. But one to 2 hours of running the same path back and forth over and over is not in any way fun. They could have come up with something INTERESTING for us to do for 1-2 hours, instead of this junk.

This fight is a missive zerg. There are so many enemies that any melee class can’t hope to keep up with the spawns and survive. You end up going down constantly if you need to melee. I use a Thief/DD as my “story” character, and by the time this fight was over, I was naked. Please stop designing content where melee-focused characters and classes are inherently disadvantaged.

The issue I have with this is how hard it is to tell how where to go. At most points in the puzzle, there are 4 or 5 obvious places, and if you go to the wrong one you have to start over, but usually the place to actually go is the visually-indistinguishable-from-a-wall-you-can’t-land-on rock that you don’t even give a second look. It’s almost impossible to make any progress without getting lucky.

I find opening bags on lower lvl alts can help a great deal here. It keeps you with a nice balance of Tier 5/6 and below if you open on the correct lvl alt for what you need.

Having said that I wish they would add Seaweed to more of the level 80 maps! Why is it only on 2-3 maps? There could have been some added to Ember Bay!

I shouldn’t need to play on alts to get mats. That’s a bodge to get around a broken system, not a feature.

How about any light armor that goes with the Chronomancer shoulders? Nothing available to light classes matches these things, because they look like armor and nothing else in the light class does. The majority of classes have this issue; Scrapper, Tempest, and Reaper are the only ones with specialization armor that really goes with anything.

Make Tags Accessible for PvE Players

I would really like to have tags. I want to have them so I can organize events, like Boss and HP trains. Doing with the default 10-person squads sucks, and even worse is that, while I can use the mentor tag, I cannot use it and have the squad running, which means I have to list the (tiny) squad, gather a few people, then delist the squad and start mentor, running the event without everyone grouped up.

This would all be much better if I could get a tag, but I have never, even once, been anywhere near having 300 gold (my record gold at one time is around 140), and then there is the issue of the Badges. I am trying to help the community, but because I am not rich and because I want to help PvE but don’t want to play WvW, I am locked out. Please lower the price and/or offer alternative acquisition methods. I understand why this was initially linked to WvW, but this no longer makes any sense, as it is used extensively in PvE, and I don’t think 300G was ever a particularly reasonable pricetag. You can make the system as awesome as you want, but if it’s inaccessible to those who want to use it, it’s worthless.

Tier 1 materials are worthless. They are needed for almost nothing once you have passed the first levels of crafting. You needs tons of T2 Iron, and Soft Wood and Thin Leather for late game stuff (Gifts, Ascended Mats, etc.), but you never need Copper or Jute or Greenwood. Please give us a purpose for them in the later game (aka the majority of time we will be playing).

We spend most of our time on late-game maps. Instead of gradually building up a repertoire of nodes and drops, you made them level specific. This is fine when you are leveling, but once you hit cap you want to play the maps that are actually challenging. Having only Mithril+, Elder Wood+, Silk+ and Thick Leather+ on high level maps creates a glut of what should be rare and valuable materials and pulls people out of the game in order to go farm on maps they have no interest in playing on because they can 2-shot everything.

This is compounded by the fact that all new maps, forevermore, will be high level. There are more maps with these resources on them than there are for every other resource COMBINED. The unstable materials introduced in LW3 are helpful, but by no means a replacement for a more balanced material distribution. Please change the way resource nodes and drops are distributed.

Thermal vent arrows rotate when I move on the map, but not such that they actually point the right way. Only when I first load into the map are they pointing to actually indicate the way they go. At any other time, they can be pointing in any direction, even completely opposite of how they actually shoot you.
