And once again they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Just once I would like them to release a big patch that doesn’t disappoint at the last minute. Can you image what being married to Anet would be like. “Next week I am going to make you your favourite, an extra hot Chilli!”… and when the day arrives, “oh, by they way it’s vegetarian”

Ah well, maybe they just like writing the “we are sorry, in retrospect it was a mistake” blog posts.

philosophy on raids?

“So, Guilds will start these missions with 10-15 people around, organize to defeat them, and a random someone that just spams 1, will get some contribution, while the Guild actually defeats the content with strategy/tactics (unless they are like the events we have now, brainless) and has his own share of the same loot… And with how RNG the game is, that random might well end up with a precursor or something, while the 15 guild members end with porous bones.
Why is this “fair” to guilds and organized players? "

We don’t even have raids just a discussion and it already comes down to wanting to exclude players and just live in little boxes with people that they can control.

Why does a random getting loot bother you? I thought it was all about the challenge / coordination and loot didn’t matter?

Booning.5476

I don’t buy this idea that adding raids will have no impact on other areas of the game. Building raids is a huge time commitment for the developers. It is also content that will be excluding a large proportion of their customer base and have a limited shelf life as it will be be burnt through very quickly leading to more calls from the raiders to deliver more.

So unless Anet hire more people dedicated to designing raids (who is going to fund that?) then other areas of the game such as WWW, PVP, open world etc will receive much less attention. Limited resources to go around – Not sure it’s a good model to dedicate most of them to a vocal minority (and yes, you are a minority – you were even a minority in the other game that revolved around raids that had to introduce a LFR tool to convince people to try the content)

You have to realize, Scar, that the raiding set around the forums is going to be catching a lot of the remnant heat from the whole Ascended gear debacle, since it was the “WE WANT RAIDZ!!11!oneeleven” sorts who managed to get ArenaNet to ball up seven years of integrity and player trust and huck it in our faces. Even those few remaining players who are willing to still extend them a chance (i.e. me and maybe three other guys on the forum) are still quite kittened off about that, and we pretty much blame you folks for it. So your arguments are going to be falling on…well, maybe three or four sets of deaf ears. As well as a lot of ears who are going to be thanking you for dealing a devastating blow to our game already.

You guys who want challenge and raid-style gear grind kind of already got your thing. Can the rest of us not have to deal with it anymore?

Nail on the head. They can’t seem to even tolerate the idea that one game on the market does not cater to them – not one single game.

This game has no fee – why not play this for what it is and play the other game that has a lot of experience at delivering high quality raid content that gives you shiny purples to strut around in? I don’t expect this game to satisfy all my gaming needs in one package. Why do the pro raid crowd?

It does seem to be part of the ongoing campaign to change this game into another bog standard clone…of course, they will then flood the forums with “it’s just a poor wow clone” posts.

Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

Booning.5476

Great post.

Anet should have realized that the vertical progression complainers had already gone back to WoW. There is no pleasing them with anything else than destroying all hopes for a fixed stat cap.

This is very true. It doesn’t take long to find posts on that games forum where they list the games they tried (inc gw2) and how they always come back. This change will not win them over as they never liked the premise of his game anyway.

Fractals are going to be the be all and end all of endgame content, adding another stat increase is helping that a long nicely, but from where I’m sitting it’s to the detriment of the rest of the game.

Yeah, I think there is an argument to rid all the dungeons in the game and build heavily into open world. Face it, it’s open world is the games PvE strength and it’s uniqueness. By putting high-end in the dungeon you make the open world more and more a ghost town. That is the big argument against LFG system, people know that makes it easier to get in dungeons, aka open world becomes the old wild west, tumble weeds and all.

Make the open world even more awesome sauce, get everyone moving around out there in all the contents. Make all areas needed or wanted for max level players.

I also say invest in 100’s of new cosmetic outfits, make that the part people chase for, not stats. A little game known as City of Heroes is still legend over their get’ups. Since you can’t mess with stats, be the end all in loot look variation, not the leader in the least amount of looks. You got to have something.

I hope this isn’t considered bickering. I label it as forum talk and feedback.

ah now that would be beautiful. Get people out of the tiny boxes and into the fantastic world they created. Make parts of the world truly nasty where if you get caught with your pants down you are done for. Parts outside of the law where free for all pvp can happen…but make them a places you go to test yourself not because you have to e.g flaming jumping puzzles.

There are times you get a glimpse of what this game could have been but people trained to think mmo = dungeon and that’s it.

Not everyone plays like everyone else, Id like to see some options in that list.

Like 5 dungeons and 7 Fractals “OR” 100 Dynamic Events …. things like that keep more people happy.

They have to start looking for ways to give players incentive to participate in the open world or there group Dynamic events just fail.

agree. This funnelling people out of the world and into little boxes is getting out of hand. Dungeons were supposed to one part of the game and now we have LA as a lobby with constant lfg chat spam while the rest of the world dies on its backside.

The other lovely addition since this update is an increase in the hardcore v casual chatter. I swear that only in mmos do you find the feckless lecturing hard working people about putting more effort in. Boggles the mind.

The elite players of this game, the people who spend all their time playing this game, want to be rewarded with an advantage. The rest of us with less time don’t spend nearly as long playing the game, so I’m not sure how I can justify someone else being forced to be equal with me. Not every kid gets an A. The whole point is there’s stuff we can get if we work hard and make good choices. Both in the game and in real life there will and should always be outliers. .

People already farmed these or are in the course of getting them. Everyone ingame is spamming LFG fotm lvl 1,2,3,4 that means that people enjoy them , it’s not like your getting left behind everyday you see lfg lvl 1 and 2 , they are short even if you grind one level a day you can get up to lvl 10+ and get the ring you wanted. It’s sad that people are so casual nowdays that want one tier gear for 10 years. Life issues and kids aside no one is forcing you to play them.

Does anyone need to point out to you why this argument is so poor? Put it this way: Lots of people spent a lot of time doing the Orr chains. Why?
Was it because they were the best source of income in the game or was it because running the same de again and again was fun fun fun?

You are just doing the same thing but now in a box with less people.

Hell, at least we could walk away from the de chain when we wanted to and you weren’t stuck in a small space with a screaming teenager that never developed basic social skills.

Now you’ve torn it. The dungeon rats will be out for your blood because you have had the temerity to suggest that having all post 80 PVE in one little box might not be the best idea.

I get the impression they would be happy with a simple lobby, an LFG that puts them straight into the box so they can scream at other players for being noobs for 1/2 an hour. Collect their “earned” loot. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam.

God forbid anyone wants to play any other way – it’s an MMORPG dontcha know!

p.s. The argument that casuals dont need best in slot only holds water if the dam gear lost its extra stats the second you left the dungeon.

I just hope Anet has more sense than some of the content locusts posting in these forums.

I do need any of that. Just clear indication of what the direction of the game is. Not the PR fluff we have had but a definitive answer on if dungeons are now the be all and end all of this game. If they say that is the focus for post pve 80 then I can walk away without a backward glance. It will be a shame for me as this game was up there with grim fandango as one of my all time favourites.

I have no idea why people are so keen to play in little boxes and exclude people but I suppose it takes all sorts. I do tend to look at them the same way as i do Morris dancers though.

From the article: “It’s much more profitable to keep an existing customer than go looking for a new one.” This remains wise advice, but is often widely ignored in practice. Companies that fail to respond to complaints in a timely manner risk losing the same customers they spent large sums acquiring in the first place. The data shows that even when a problem is no longer fixable, a simple apology can still turn a negative attitude into a positive one.

I suppose if you spend all your time reading fantasy fiction and dungeon guides things like this pass you by.

What will kill GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Booning.5476

Booning.5476

I am not trying to be funny for suggesting this thread but the threat may be real and probably imminent.

For me, what will kill GW2 eventually will be the day when WoW adopts free-to-pay model like GW2. Atm, WoW still has ‘healthy’ revenue but it is likely a diminishing one as time passes. There will be a revenue floor threshold where once crossed, it will benefit WoW more to go free-to-pay.

While new content may provide a temporary spike in revenue for GW2, unpolished new content will add more frustration to players on top of existing bugs which remains unsolved. Players’ loyalty vs new content, and in the light of the above imminent threat scenario, I hope Anet makes its wise choice. Good luck.

The problem is, this isn’t just a betrayal of trust and a black mark for Anet – it really poisons the well for any future developer trying to create an unconventional MMOG without vertical progression or a standard end-game.

I go into more depth here at my blog on MMORPG.com.

Legendary Weapons Boosted to Ascended Stats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Booning.5476

Booning.5476

I am seriously disappointed in this community of minority naysayers. There’s hardly anything to do at 80 more than a few times before the boredom kicks in. Yet, when Anet tries to address this issue people freak. The game will have no depth and no longevity outside of log in here or there for special events. The majority that doesn’t post wants MORE depth.

The few thousand posters claiming to be the majority are what is going to make the game stale, boring and too easy. Legendary weapons are already easier to get with obsidians becoming easier to get along with other requirements. Go ahead and pound the table for a GW1 clone. It wasn’t that good. Otherwise, how did Wow get so big during that time? GW2 can be MORE than a niche game and I hope Anet wants someting more from GW2 then a GW1 clone.

See anet – the people you are chasing don’t even like the game you made before this.
They will consume the content, annoy the remaining players and move on.
They have done this in every mmo.

You need to break out of the group think and get back on track.

On another note, the people I feel most sorry for a your art dept – they created one of the most beautiful worlds I have seen in a game (no joke – I would stop and pan the camera around just to enjoy the view) and now you are making people play in little boxes and spam chat in LA about needing a dungeon group.

Why aren’t ascended items just like exotics in stats?

I would really like to know the reason for this.

This is the real question that most people are missing. Everything is superfluous except this question.

All they need to do to fix this kerfuffle is change the plan and make ascended and legendary items exactly the same stat-wise as exotics.

Stick infusions on ascended items and keep legendaries just for looks.

Boom. Problem solved!

This is assuming that they believe they have a problem. I don’t think they believe this will impact them in a meaningful way.

And I think that ignoring an enormous player outcry and going back on years of design principal is a pretty big deal. Many other players do to.

It’s a very big deal to go back on 7 years of ArenaNet design principles a scant few months into the release of this game.

Guild Wars games have never been and were advertised as being not about gear or levels, but player skill and builds.

Moving in this direction is a huge change of course and betrays the very aspects of design that led many of us to the company and the game.

I think he has a point. They don’t believe they have a problem. I expect they are very angry at us for not appreciating the cleverness and beauty of their solution.

There is no real way they are going to see the problem until it is way way too late. They could ring the bioware devs and ask how the “our customers are whiny idiots” attitude worked out for them though – well the ones still with jobs anyway.

Doesn’t really matter. You will either stop playing or keep playing. They have already made the decision that it will not impact them negatively finacially. Thier hope is that it will bring in more people, keep some people who would have left from leaving, and that will offset those that leave.

I am sure they knew that there would be a level of dissent. I am sure they surmised that they would lose players. I am sure they took all this into account and decided that the ones they throw under the bus would not impact thier bottomline as much as sticking to thier original plan.

If you are disappointed and quit, they don’t really care, you have already been factored in and accounted for.

Not sure they have factored in the time rich/cash poor V time poor/cash rich and the preferred style of play and tendency to spend money in cash shop.

I do remember the raider kiddies giving out a lot of grief to people who bought the flying mount from the cash shop instead of "earning"it (haha) by doing dungeons.

I am starting to feel a bit sorry for the devs. I think they have been the victim of group think and have ended up in Alberkerky.

To the people who are saying “I didn’t buy this game to grind dungeons I just wanted to stroll about in the world and do my thing and enjoy dynamic events la la la”…

Are you actually doing that? Are you actually going back to zones and re-experiencing the events and the world? Or is this just an ideal that you wish you could do, but never actually could get yourself to do?

Maybe this is why Anet is being flexible now with their original philosophy, because they see that despite their own ideals of having players go out into the world and just “having fun” people simply don’t do that anymore.

People never Did. i mean hell look at the RPG’s of yeaster year they were FAR more “grindy” than this game.

even game’s like mario yes you never had gear you needed to progress but you still needed to gather your little extra live’s and beet each level one by one and if you died OMG you had to start all the way over from the begaining.

most gamer’s look for some form of progression in there game’s whether it be level to level ((to see the end)). Gear/stat upgrade’s.

I have no problem with Gear progression as long as it never becomes as steep as what we see in WOW

I just potter about having fun with the content. Never set foot in a dungeon ( instance with single group of players is not epic to me – it just feels small)

Looks like my money is no longer required by anet. No worries – will find something else to spend my spare cash on… Gin maybe?

I needed to tripple-post, I am sorry, but there seems to be a new limit of 5001 characters.
Anyway, I believe everyone should and understand what Wintyre Fraust points to:
it is not very probable that – given how ANet claims their development looks like – this change was motivated by meaningful player feedback AND designed AND developed AND passed ANets extensive Q&A in 3 months.
This all points to a very grim possibility: that it was planned before release, completely against the Manifesto, completely against the marketing claims. It;s a sad thought indeed!

Please do realize that a fix for the Hatchery was postponed for 3 weeks before it made it to live (actually, it still hasn’t).

Unfortunately, it also means that Linsey Murdock and ANET are flat-out lying to us by claiming that this update was engineered due to live game player feedback. What a crock.

So it looks like ArenaNet is catering for the hardcore player base, and leaving the casuals as an “under geared” group of players.

What happened to None-Gated content ? What happened to being able to just play with my friends in ANY content. Is it true there will now be zones I can not play, because I haven’t farmed the right gear?

Gear checks???

ArenaNet, this is not what you said we would be playing.

Everything in this game caters to casuals, even obtaining legendaries. We hardcore PvE’ers can’t just have this one thing? Every single aspect has to be lovey-dovey and equal?

Am I to assume that all of the people that hate getting new gear so much are still in the gear they hit 80 in? Because if you complain about “being forced” to get new gear in order to stay on par, then you must have hated it then too. Right?

And we can’t have one game that doesn’t bend over to the “hardcore”?
You have options – we don’t..not anymore.
