Has anyone else noticed that the map completion compass will now usher you to a new area even if you haven’t gotten everything on the map?

Baked Weaponry

Boreas The North.1892

Dear Anet,

Please make weapons that are made out of baking supplies. The Chef profession does not get enough attention short of a few key recipes that are useful beyond all belief, but I feel it falls to the side sometimes when it could really shine.

A two-handed baguette greatsword or a cinnamon roll shield would be amazing. A lot of people these days do not appreciate the sheer deadliness of baked goods, as many a person’s mouth has been obliterated by the sharp crust on a freshly baked baguette. I believe should this principle be weaponised, it would be a huge boost to the war effort against the Dragons.

Sous-Chef Seimur Oxbone wants to make food with bloodstone dust and I think that if you combined the inedibility of bloodstone dust with the deadliness of baked goods, you would be able to club an ettin to death with it.

Thank you

Cool find. I just finally came back to the game now that Scarlet is naturally presumed dead. If they brought her back again I would uninstall and never look back.

Hey, thanks for insulting me, Boreas. I guess you’d prefer a stilted “this is my new apparentice, Taimi.” “Hi there” Introduction, over someone just showing up. Do you get introduced to everyone who’s come into your life by someone you already knew, or do people just show up from time to time?

There was nothing in my post that was meant to insult you, if that is the case then I apologize for that. Given that you haven’t contributed to this post in any other way than criticizing my posts and being argumentative, I thought you might be up for a bit of debate. If you don’t care to discuss what my original post was then perhaps you should find another thread.

@Delvoire, that’s a possibility, but I am still failing to see where she actually says she is an apprentice of Zojja. All I have seen is the wiki being updated, but there doesn’t seem to be any other connection.

Exactly how do you introduce someone, except for writing them into the story? Everyone has to show up at some point.

Traditionally, (and I know this is difficult for some to understand) characters are given an introduction, a bit of background story, maybe even another NPC making some kind of reference to them, and then they are given lines and a part to play in the story. With Scarlet and Taimi they just…appear. If Zojja had an apprentice, do you not think it odd that this is the very first time she has ever been mentioned in over a year of gameplay?

Well might as well scrap my theories, apparently she has been retconned into the wiki as Zojja’s apprentice (wtf?!) So yeah, she is just being written into the story like Scarlet, no longer that excited about her.

Intelligent design has much better supporting arguments than I could ever pull from two encounters with an NPC…I fail to see the correlation.

post 2.0 since it didn’t want to let me to post.

My reasons were as follow:

1. Taimi’s golem (Scruffy, I believe?) is by far the most advanced piece of technology on the planet, rivaling and surpassing even Mr. Sparkles who is the pride of the world’s foremost Golemancer, Zojja. I mean just look at the kitten thing.

2. Taimi clearly states that she is Braham’s friend or at least will be soon. Either she is beyond creepy and has this sick obsession with Braham, or she literally does know they will be friends.

3. Taimi very succinctly and promptly tells everyone around that Scarlet is testing her Aethercannon and bringing troops in to power it. Testing her what? Her troops can DO that? First I have ever heard of it…Wonder how Taimi knew…

4. Taimi is incredibly eager to be “taken home” to Rata Sum. It shouldn’t be any kind of trouble to just walk up to a gate and pzzzapt wind up there. She insists though on a kind of escort, perhaps because the gates are not operational when she is from.

5. Her obsession with Scarlet is purely academic. She talks about her as if she were some kind of celebrity or famous person, going so far as False River to go and MEET her. Taimi is so detached from the current events one could even assume that she may know how it all turns out, or that it is ancient history for her. Regardless, she treats everything going on with a degree of aloofness one would show if what was going on around them really didn’t effect them at all, as if this were all some sort of vacation.

6. Taimi is called a progeny, the term for asuran youths, and treated as a child by Thackeray. While her screams for help and pleas to Braham were obviously meant to mock Logan and get Braham’s attention, she was obviously far from serious in her distress. If she is not in classes or apprenticing for a krewe then she is a huge anomaly and something quite out of the ordinary.

7. Anyone familiar with GW1 will remember the incredible number of in game references to current events and real world things. (Enadiz the Hardheaded, for example) I would place all my bets on the fact that Taimi is a direct reference to the Doctor Who phrase, “Timey-wimey stuff”.

That’s about all I got, I know some of its guessing an assumptions, but I hope against hope that I am right

I am the only one who gets some insanely obvious “I come from the future!” vibes from Taimi? I have tried to prove my point in my guild and on my server, but all I get are half-hearted “Heh yeah maybe”s. Was just wondering if anyone else had made the same connections I had.

Boreas The North.1892

Absolutely loathe Scarlet, I am beyond thrilled that this Living Story Chapter will be over soon. I am basically sticking around because it was promised that “whatever happens will rock Tyria to its core”. If that is just a smoke and mirrors bluff, I will pretty much be done. I know this is all new territory, and people deserve time to “get things right”, but I am stretching my faith in ArenaNet to its breaking point, hoping against hope they can finish this right.

If Anet wants to have raids so bad, just follow WoW’s example and make parties of ~40 some odd people who CAN be organized enough to complete something this hard. There are overflows for these events because a server fills up, and a lot of those people have no idea what they are doing at all and it completely ruins it for anyone seriously trying.

I tried out the wurm. Turned out to be a really fun looking event, then saw the timer and just lol’d and ported out. I would put the necessary time and effort into both Teq and Wurm if it weren’t for that kitten timer. Time limit removed I would give both fights probably a 10/10, with it in place though, will never waste a second of my time on something that stressful.

What do we want from the Living Story

in Living World

Boreas The North.1892

I personally believe that “Living Story” is the wrong term for the kin of thing that ANET is shooting for. What I believe they are attempting to cultivate is a “Growing World”. Something that is not necessarily crammed chock full of events and dungeons and Gods know what else. A place where the people visiting it can put a bit of themselves into it is all we need.

I never needed anything more from GW1. An occasional skill balance, a new update here or there were nice, but it wasn’t what kept me there. It was the permanence of it. The dungeons, the quests, the missions. Everything was repeatable ad nauseum and I never even finished it all on all my characters over 7 years.

What we need from the Living story is growth. The things that I hear GW2ians commenting on most are the events that have a lasting effect on the world. The opening of Southsun, Twilight Arbor, Kessex Hills. Even the Zephyr Sanctum was an enormous hit because of its hinted return.

Random and passing do not satisfy the need to put yourself into a game, to form memories of the places you visit. I will sound incredibly infantile and lame but I will admit that when GW2 hit beta, I spent a large portion of time with a proverbial tear in my eye, rediscovering places that had changed so much in what for me was a little time (was playing GW1 until final release) but for the world that I had put so much time an thought into, it was 250 years in the future.

I can find no fault in the OP’s list, I can only stress that if GW2 is going to become a sequel worthy of its precursor (and I am positive it will), the team is going to have to step out of the “safe content” bubble, make things matter, change the world. Break it to pieces and make the players put it back together, make them grow more attached to it. The updates don’t need to be frequent to keep people coming back, they need to have heart.

What happened to Kessex Hills?

I’m really curious about this, I just hope that Scarlet isn’t randomly behind it again. She just isn’t my kind of villain and having her steal the stage whenever something interesting happens is….well disappointing.

Blocking and World vs World

in WvW

Posted by: Boreas The North.1892

Boreas The North.1892

This kind of change will not entirely eliminate the use of spies. Short of a “kick from server” button, you’ll never be rid of someone who REEEEEEEEALLY wants to spy on you. It is perfectly possible that someone could follow the zerg around and communicate their movements back to whomever they report to. If someone is going to go to that kind of effort, well, hard to do anything about it. Guess the most you can do is make them work for it.

As for blocking individuals, a lot of people play this game, and there are going to be more than a few cases where two people never having any kind of contact with each other would be a boon to the community.

Making it harder to exploit certain programs and never having to deal with a bothersome individual again, these adjustments should be implemented ASAP.

Blocking and World vs World

Boreas The North.1892

After reading the replies I think that people might be misunderstanding what the problem is. The individual in question is most likely using another world’s TS or Vent to communicate back the positions of our commanders. Livestreaming wouldn’t be an issue at all because he just sits at our spawn and works on the world record for most consecutive healing skills used in a row. The issue is that with the introduction of “out of game” communication systems to the gaming world, it opens up a giant weakness in the fairness of player vs player matches. The blocking system in GW2 is lacking in the sense that people can still interact with you in certain ways, it would be nice to see these changes implemented across the whole game, not just w3.

Everything started out so wonderful. You runs dungeons, you get tokens. Trade said tokens in. Achieve Happiness. I thought we were going to get away from the horror of Lunar Fortunes and having to open 750+ for a chance of a mini. I’m not going to give a reason to avoid RNG boxes (regardless of how you acquire them) other than I have always fond them painful and regretful. Being able to put time in and know that you are going to get what you set out for is rewarding. Putting in time and/or REAL money and still having an almost zero percent certainty that you will get the item you want… well noone likes to be forced to hate a game they love.

Well this seems like nothing but a whine post, so I guess I will throw in my two cents.
Thank you ALL Anet employees! I can’t even begin to imagine how tough it must be to activate and event right in the middle of LA and simultaneously trigger npcs/events appearing all over the world. I think its really cool and brings a new level of immersion to Tyria. I LOVE the “catch you offguard” cinematics, please keep them coming for all the holidays and new content! I’d also like to thank you for trying your best to do damage control while working under such a tight deadline. I can’t honestly say I ENJOY the idea of “one time events”, puts a lot of pressure on folks to show up or miss out on something REALLY cool like the Karka invasion. I know that my buddy is gonna be heartbroken when I tell him what he missed, but he had work at that time. Just keep up the really good work, you guys are doing and incredible job of making us a part of how the world we love to play in grows and evolves.
