Differences between the Guardian and Warrior?

in Players Helping Players

Aside from the obvious class mechanics. I’m trying to get a feel for each class and pick one to relearn the game on. I’ve looked on MetaBattke, but having never been mostly a living world PvE player way back when I don’t really know much about raiding and fractals.
I mainly just went questing on a warrior way back when, but with all the changes, I feel like I have to relearn the game.

I’ve watched some videos on professions by Mike the Fish, and why it was nice to watch, didn’t really help me differentiate the two. It did lead me to believe that both are easy to play. Didn’t seem that hard to do either the Berserker or the Dragon Hunter.

I just really can’t tell the difference between the two, as silly as it sounds. I’m trying to pick apart the differences and choose one. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, and I don’t think I’ll roll an alt for sometime. The more I can do with this one before and during PoF the better.

Beginner trying to PvP

I’ve recently finished up the living world content, and I did polish off my world completion. I was wondering what to do now the other day, and while Dungeons are great, I’ve done that, so Fractals didn’t really appeal to me. I saw the reward tracks for PvP and thought I’d give it a go. I’m trying to gear a new guardian, so I’m planning on grinding the AC track for PVT gear.

With that said, I’ve tried custom arenas and unranked as a Hambow and a Bunker Guardian and while I can’t tell how terrible I am doing,, the scoreboard has me on the lower end of the team more often then not, as much kitten-80 points behind my next closest teammate. This is going of of my unranked scores, customs are just a mess, but I feel that it’s harder for me to ruin someone’s day in there. The downside is, they cap rewards.

With it being separate from PvE and WvW, I am open to trying new classes if there is an easier learning curve there. I’m also interested in going out into WvW, but I only have an 80 Warrior, so mu choices are more limited. Once I get my weapons from BFC I may go out with the militia and try shouts.

What should I focus on in the beginning. My profession and build? Can it make things more forgiving? I’m not playing on a competitive level and only aspire to do unranked for glory and loot, so I’m probably never going to be min-max OMG awesome. I just want to get in there, hit people and capture/defend points.

It may not be required for map completion, but I’m curious to know what’s there. I can’t seem to get there no matter what I do. Anyone know how to get here?

Looking For Active WvW Militia

Going to make a move from tier 1 and I’m trying to decide what server I want to spend my gems on. My cousin has left this decision up to me, and we both plan to transfer together to a new server.

I currently reside on Tarnished Coast, and he is on Northern Shiverpeaks.

We both tend to dabble in all things available in game. We took to the unranked arenas last night together for the first time, and it was… as good as expected.

We do sink a reasonable amount of time into this game, but aren’t typically serious enough to get organized. We both got burned out on scheduled play times thanks to WoW raiding.

We are just two misfits trying to find a place to fit into this world, but I’m going to miss the TC militia groups, so I want to find a new one to transfer to, and he will be following me into WvW so I feel the militia is a good place for us.

I’m also in the market for a casual PvX guild as well on the new server.

Being that the only factor server has is on wvw I wanted to get some input on what’s out there.

The hiccup came when me and my cousin wanted to play together, but we are both on differeny servers. We’ve got some gems and are looking for a new home.

In wvw I generally try and run with the militia as I’m not that hardcore in wvw and have a nice pvx guild that does the same, but on my server militia can be rough and commanders are sometimes sparse, and it’s also a T1 server if that matters.

Are there any servers that run a decent militia. I play wvw but can commit to times. I kind of come and go, so militia suits me.

If you also want to endorse a guild on that server, feel free. Going to need a new one after the transfer as well. Glad I can have more than one so I can keep my old friends too!

I don’t know how transferring works, but he states that TC is always full and he cannot transfer here. I would really like for him to come to TC, but that may not be possible.

I’ve been playing this game for quite some time now, and it’s had it’s ups and downs. It may not be perfect, but I still enjoy it immensely. Most of my WvW experience comes from either map roaming with a zerg with VOIP, or going crazy and dying while trying for map completion.

I’ve kind of figured out how some of this works, and being on TC, is seems to come down to whoever has the biggest blob. Playing a frontliner I frequently die and it can be hard to link up with friends. I spend more time walking instead of fighting.

Is this all there is to WvW? Everybody talks about how it is more casual friendly, but it’s downright boring to play when I get on. All I do is die and walk.

Recently my cousin has linked up with me, but we are on different servers, and I’m considering a transfer to his server, Northern Shiverpeaks is all I can remember right now.

I do have some concerns about the population and “meta” there. I’m just out to have some fun on a warrior, and I want to know if this will get me a little bit closer.

What is a beginner friendly ranged class?

Right now, I only have one character, and he works quite well for me. My 80 Warrior has served me well and I really enjoy playing him now that I have things figured out.

Of course, he is all about melee and being all burly and tough. Recently wanting to roll a second character before Heart of Thorns, I wanted a change of pace.

I was curious as to what ranged options are out there for PvE and WvW Zerging, all on one character of course, if possible. I was hoping to find something easy to play, as my warrior has been, but am not sire where to go from here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Whelp, I’m offically giving up on LS content, it’s just not enjoyable. They’ve replaced all of the nicce dialogue sequencces with text cchats and turned gathering NPC into a crappy novel. Go talk to Tiami. Now go get Eir. Oh, Ritlock too.

While your at it can you go cleanse the foefire. Oh, you wanted to DPS that statue and finish the quest, allow me to spawn 100 menders so you have to DPS them instead. This just reeks of poor design choices all around. Sometimes it’s not engaging or hard, it’s just down right stupid.

I want to know what piece of the puzzle I am missing here. So far, I am very disappointed in the LS Content. My personal story was great, very fun to complete. and had a nice ending in Arah. I was looking forward to doing LS content on my Warrior after the epic ending.

Started the story, payed for the missed episodes, and thought I was ready to go, but oh boy… Where do I even start.

1. Thrown into a story where I have no idea what is going on. Season 1 is no available and my only outlet is Youtube and Wikis. It lacks the polish of the original game. I have suddenly become the silent protagonist.

2. Sharp difficulty increase. I’ll admit, leveling did seem a little easy, but the spike in difficulty I am experiencing is ridiculous. Every time I turn around there are more veteran mobs, conditions and crowd control everywhere. Melee combat against some mobs is downright impossible. Even after trying multiple builds and doing research.

3. Frustrating mechanics. I don’t know about anyone else here, but I find Dry Top very frustrating. Crystals don’t seem to work as intended sometimes. Sandstorms makes some areas downright annoying to get through, and if the quest NPC is currently in an event, you have to finish the event or wait to continue the storyline.

4. Bugs, lots of them, and from what I can tell, they’ve been around for a long time. The one incident that really bugged me was “Trouble at Fort Salma.” Reviving the squad frequently broke the quest, and since the game lacks an “exit instance button” in the LS it was very irritating to start over. The final boss fight of this quest also presented frustration as the friendly NPCs would frequently reset and don’t get me started on defending the minions.

I’ve pretty much given up on progression at this point. Dungeons were fun, WvW was okay, but if I can’t really enjoy the “new” content, what’s the point. I really expected more from ANet. Now I’m sorry I spent the gems to unlock the useless broken story.

Phalanx Strength Build- What I'm Looking For?

in Warrior

Posted by: Breidr.9830

Breidr.9830

Playing an almost fresh level 80 Warrior, this is also my first character, so bear that in mind here.

I’ve recently gotten to 80 and am working on the Living World, PUGing dungeons and sometimes joining the militia in WvW. I’ve been using the “standard” camp Greatsword build for the most part, with a ranged weapon on switch when I need to back off and heal for a moment. I have Knight’s Gear and Berserker’s Trinkets, working towards getting Exotics.

I’ve been doing some digging around and came across some other builds and I was curious about Phalanx Strength. The guide I was looking at Advocated am Axe/Mace approach, and there was also a Greatsword variant, both with ranged on switch, or a sword/warhorn possibly.

It seemed like something I might want to try. A supportish warrior that makes the party better, while still doing warrior things. I want to know mire about how all this works to see if it might be viable for me to make the switch. My main two questions are:

1. Is it beginner friendly? Especially in a PUG environment?

2, Is it WvW Viable? Phalanx Strength sounds like something cool I might try carrying over to the militia zerg. Is this a good idea?
I have a hard time as a shout frontliner in these chaotic fights and want to try and bring more support so I’m not totally useless. I know I’ll never be that ranged warrior I wanted, but this could be a possible change of pace.

Leveling was fun. Frustrated by Endgame.

I will give the game credit, my personal story was fun, and I enjoyed the ride, especially the epic battle in the last dungeon. Now that I’m finished with that, however, the game has become increasingly more frustrating,

Platforming in this game frustrates me to no end, and I’m short for a Norn. Was going to try and complete the map, but it’s more trouble than fun, so I’ve shelved that.

I started on the Living World, after buying the other episodes that is, and can’t even get past the first part. The game just wipes the floor with me. I have decent gear, decent traits, but the difficulty just ramped up and it doesn’t add up to me. Dry Top is also a pretty irritating area to me, but that’s beside the point.

I also tried some WvW recently, and I even had some friends tonight for the reset. I was expecting to get wrecked, but figured it would be fun. It was the farthest thing from fun in this game. They have a bigger blob than us, time to get wrecked or run away. We have a bigger blob, good luck actually “fighting.” It was very unsatisfying. I got XP, great, but why, because I hit someone once? We spent 5 minutes bashing a wall down so we could go kill one mob and stand in a circle, fun…

Am I missing something here? I know people still play this game at level cap, so what am I missing? Where is the activity and why is it so frustrating to be a new 80?

Help Me - Builds and Gear for a fresh 80

Leveling went way faster than I thought it would. It seems like just yesterday I was in my mid twenties. Now I’m 74 and coming up fast. Personal Story just got real and once I get through it, I should be 80 on the other side, with some exploring in there to help.

With that said, I feel like I still don’t know how to play my warrior. It’s really awkward since I’ve made it through all this PvE, but still have no idea what I’m doing. I just picked up a leveling build from a site, changed the runes[?] to match the weapons I could find, and ran with it. It worked well enough, barring the little incident at the Cathedral of Silence.

Now I am full of aspirations. I want to do all the PvX things! Dungeons, PvP, WvW, and I want to finish my map completion, but I have no idea where to start. Gearing so far has just been what I’ve found. I have no idea what to look for end game. I’ll admit this is the first MMO I’ve made it to end game in, if I’m even there yet.

PvP seemed simple enough, I’m looking into Hambow, feel free to chime in here if you have some words of wisdom.

For the rest of the game, I have no idea. What should I bring to dungeons? opne world content seems like it would take the same stuff I’m already using, but dungeons are a whole other animal.

WvW, mostly Zerging, is something I haven’t even thought about, so I have no idea what it takes.

So, what should a new warrior bring to the party?

What can I expect when Playing a Guardian?

A week into my return to Tyria and I’m still feeling weird about the game and how things work. I’ve tried to get back into the swing of things on my 30 warrior, but it’s been giving me a headache. My rifle seems to be only good for the initial pulling and everything is in my face. Dodging, timing attacks, it’s all a bit fast, especially in PvP, which I dabbled in, but realize may be too advanced for me, who the heck knows.

I’ve been taking some advice from others to try different professions and I’ve found out some things. For one, I dislike the deathshroud mechanic. I didn’t do too bad on my pistol/pistol thief, but initiative can require finesse that doesn’t seem to be for me.

So it’s come down to this. I would like to know more about the Guardian because I’m pretty sure I’ll be heading into one soon, and I hope it has some of what I’m looking for. I get to look cool in heavy armor and be that Norn Soldier I wanted, but I hope it has a more passive supportive side to it, and it’s not so up front like my warrior was.For lack of a better word, I’m looking for a more “relaxed” profession that will let me breathe.

I don’t seem to be getting that from the Warrior, and adrenaline is all but useless to me, I’ve heard they also changed it, and I don’t understand the new way it works quite yet, mind you, I’m not even half way to level cap.

I’d hope certain mechanics like Virtues and supportive skills would give me a way to contribute to the team without being so fast. I guess what I’m really asking is: what can I expect when playing a Guardian?

How can a slower player contribute?

I started this game on a warrior, and recently came back to the game and played into my 30’s. The game is easy enough that I can much my way through most solo content by general “mashing” of buttons, but the more I get into it, I’m starting to feel as if there may be a better choice than a warrior for what I want from the game.

My main interest in the game lies in WvW and sPvP currently, and the warrior is a bit too “in your opponents face” for me to manage. I was curious if there was a way for those of us with slower wits to contribute in this fast paced game.

I haven’t gotten into much WvW or group PvE content, but I have experimented with sPvP and it is brutal, as expected. I really wish the team sizes were a bit larger, but that’s okay.

I’m not concerned with being the best, or anything close to that. I merely want to pull my weight and help the team, in whatever fashion I am capable of. The combat in this game is still something I’m getting used to, and even with the few buttons on my action bar things can get clunky sometimes.

I may keep on the warrior, but i was also thinking of starting a character from scratch so I can relearn some things from a “newbie” perspective. I want to be as hardened as possible when I take to the battlegrounds for Tarnished Coast. I’m just not sure how to do that. I was hoping to make a ranged character out of my warrior, thinking the range would give me more time to think and react, without the micromanagging of a ranger pet, but I’m not sure.

I’m open to suggestions from veterans as to what I can do to help. Right now I’m just happy I have my keybinds the way I like.

Coming Back, Still Feel Lost

Started this game on during last years holiday season. Great price for a great game, then life got in the way. Graduated college, and now I have a job working 45 hours a week at a call center. Glamorous.

I do still have some time off, but not much to commit to anything too serious. I remembered GW2 being one of my favorite MMOs. No silly action bar stacks, 16? buttons or so maximum, and it had a great feel to it. I would be more than happy with this game even if it did require a fee, so good on ya guys.

With that said, I’m out of school now, so my time off is actually time off. I don’t take my work home, so I have some free time, and given it comes at odd hours sometimes, gaming is my only outlet on certain days, so I wanted to get back into Tyria.

I’ve made contact with my fellow TC players on the other webpage and it’s been great reading up on the community, but that’s not why I’m here. I feel like a newbie again, and I don’t even think I played long enough the first time around to leave the newbie stage anyway.

I’ve been goofing off and wandering around the world, doing random events and such, trying to get a feel for things again, as well as some fail PvP hotjoins the other night, still fun though.

I started as a Warrior because I felt it would make a good beginner class, I thought I wanted something that was tough and versatile, but that may have changed. I tried picking up my 20 something warrior again and I felt lost. I’m debating on rolling another class and starting from scratch and coming back to the warrior later. I’ve got extra slots right? May as well use some of them.

I mainly wanted to try and get back into this game and have some fun with it. I do not concern myself with being the “best,” I just want to have fun. I was used to mop the floor in sPvP, but I had fun, so it doesn’t really matter, unless it made my teammates upset, but that’s why I stay out of arenas.

I have an interest in World Completion, that whole living world thing and personal story, as well as WvW [mostly just zerging if you will, not serious] and I may dabble in hotjoins. I do not plan to take a competitive attitude towards the game, and would like to know how I can best achieve that without affecting other ability to enjoy the game the way they wish to.

I’m also considering a class change, or at least a re-evaluation of my warrior playstyle. Less buttons is better for me, and this game seems to have that part down. I’m not a fan of the frontline role, however. It is a bit fast for me. I’d prefer a “slower” backline role, I was leaning towards a more ranged oriented character, so I have a small time to think about what I need to do, as opposed to pausing for one moment and getting wailed on. I’m not sure if the warrior seems to be the ranged I was looking for. A support role may also work for what I’m wanting to achieve, as I help the team by making others better, and I’d like to think people would like having me around.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some help to get my feet off the ground it would be much appreciated.

For advanced users [not me] I’m also struggling with how to do my keybinds. I use two peripherals for gaming and I’m struggling to figure out how to utilize them properly.

How should a beginner build his warrior?

in Warrior

Breidr.9830

Started Guild Wars 2 at the beginning of the month, and now that I’ve gotten the hang of a few things I’m having a blast. I will admit that I still die sometimes on story missions, but PvE for the most part is okay. I’m not really a fan of the downscaling as I can’t really make content “easier,” but I guess I just need to learn to dodge better. Currently working on map completion and Story at level 30.

With level 30 comes traits and my first opportunity to actually start a “build.” The thing is, even with all the guide reading, I’m still kind of lost. Up until now I’ve pretty much been running with a rifle and dual axes, it’s just what worked. Bought some signets and let the passives plow me through content.

I have noticed, however, that most people seem to dislike running full signets, and wanted t o get a better handle on things. I eventually plan to play PvP (hotjoins, even though they’re horrible) and WvW (pubbing/zerging) but nothing to serious, in addition to finishing my PvE stuff.

I was curious as to how a Warrior could adapt to these things, as I still don’t know much in the way of character development. Heck, I just learned how to play the game! I’d favor a ranged build over a melee build, but don’t know how feasible a ranged warrior is. I like rifle more than longbow, but everyone else seems to think Longbow is better, so what do I know.

Any guidance would be appreciated. I’m still feeling a little overwhelmed by this game. At least I know I won’t end up with 30 buttons. I like having only one action bar. God Bless this game.

Am I mising something?

I want to start by saying that I haven’t been playing very long, so that may factor into things a little bit, but I feel like I’m hitting a wall rather fast. I don’t really know the best way to describe it.

I started off doing my story missions and renown NPCs, as well as random zone events. My story missions seemed to scale in difficulty rather fast. I found myself just roaming around the first zone grinding to 10 so I could continue my story. It seemed kind of odd, which is why I came here to ask what’s up.

I don’t spend large sessions playing this game, and try to ration it so I don’t get bored like other MMOs, but I still seem to be hitting the grind wall. Maybe this game isn’t as casual as I thought :P.

I took a stint with my newly joined guild into WvW, but didn’t fair much better. to put things in perspective, it felt like playing DayZ. Run around for a long time, find a fight, die, repeat.

I feel like I’m not gasping something here, and it’s the root of my problems. It seems odd that I should be experiencing this from what I believe is a great game.

Building My Legend (New to the game)

Breidr.9830

Hi there! Just bought this game and wanted to pop in and say hello. Was looking for a casual MMO and this is where I ended up, hopefully I’m in the right place. Having a bit of a time wrapping my head around how thing work, but I guess I’ll get there in time.

I’v experimented with a couple of classes in the every early stages (warrior and guardian) but haven’t gotten serious because I want to make sure things suit me, as I will most likely only have time for one character currently.

I was intrigued by this games concept of WvW and am over eager to get involved in that. I really like the way this game builds a story and am looking forward to PvE fun on my way to WvW (when I’m ready, of course).

I’ve done some reading and some playing, but this game has thrown me a bit of a monkey wrench. Not to go into specifics, but for my own reasons I use gaming peripherals to simplify the use of actionbars and such in MMOs. These are what I currently use:

Razer Tartarus
Razer Deathadder

I have enough room for WASD and 1-9 on the pad, as well as tab. The mouse has 2 buttons which I use to use focus targets. Right now I’m using them for F and Esc, but that may change. Haven’t yet figured out where to put the F keys. Didn’t really expect on MMO to use them :P.

With that said, is there anyone with more knowledge that can help guide me through professions. I’d like to say I’m not looking for “easy” or “least buttons” but I kind of am. This game threw a lot at me in the beginning. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the “Holy Trinity” of MMOs has gone away somewhat.

My main goal is to just play a character, be effective and help my groups, and have fun. Not dead set on any specific way to do that. Not sure where I’ll end up, but that’s half the fun I guess.

New to the Tarnished Coast

So, I like others you probably have seen around, bought this game on sale. Played the original Guild Wars very casually with my cousin and can’t remember a lick of it now, funny enough.

I came here to introduce myself and build some contact with the community. I’m excited about this game and can’t wait to dive in, when I have the time that is. I decided to give Guild Wars 2 a try because I was looking for a casual MMO without a fee and the current F2P market didn’t do it for me. I always feel like I never quite get my money out of sub fees between work, other games, and sleep.

I was hoping to get in touch with some casual adventures to chat with and have some laughs. In the past most of the guilds I’ve been a member of seemed like a different chat channel to me. We were never “hardcore” raiding, and you did what you pleased, it was a game, not a job. You could chat and have a laugh while questing or grinding. It became a stop for LFG before pubbing. All of them full of nice people that just did spontaneous things together, but never got too serious.

I was hoping to bring that back a little bit. This being my first MMO since WoW (slight foray into SWTOR, nothing serious). I decided on Tarnished Coast because I heard some nice things about the server. “Unofficial RP” and “Good communication between players” comes to mind. It seemed like a nice place to settle in. Never done anything besides grind my butt off in an MMO, time for a change. I just want to have some fun this time around. I’m out of college and have a job now, no sense in making this more work.
