Some of the player base have physical disabilities which make doing things of this nature very difficult it not impossible. I myself can’t do sPvP because of Osteoarthritis in my joints (most specifically my hands). I’d rather not take the chance of overdosing on my pain medication just for a few Mastery Points.
Perhaps an alternative way of gaining the Master Points is available?
Also some might suggest doing the Metas . The Grent Meta so far has a 99% fail rate, the Dragon’s Stand Meta I have done multiple times and the Auric Basin Meta doesn’t appear to reward them anymore.
I’m at a loss as to what to do. I’ve collected all the Masteries in Magus Falls, including the strong boxes and am 32 points shy of completion. I also have full map completion and have finished my Hearts and Minds Personal story.
Same issue, but with Nuhoch Vendors, /sad face. Posted in the Bug forums.
My Nuhoch Mastery is leveled all the way through Nuhoch Alchemy but none of my characters can purchase Tier 2 items from the Nuhoch vendors, which includes weapon recipes and the items for crafting Legendaries.
The Clone even whispers to you that this isn’t the real Anise and to seek her elsewhere (behind the stairs) away from the guests. where you first enter
Twice I’ve killed the Treasure Mushroom and twice I have received the Invisible Mushroom Spore, yet it won’t “collect” on the character that got it. Instead it collects on characters which I have never killed the Treasure Mushroom on.
I want it for my Necromancer. I don’t care about the others right now.
Here is the recipe
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Gift_of_Insights&redirect=no
It’s not you. I have the exact same issue and so does my entire Guild (1500 people all across the world).
I’m currently in a 450+ member guild and a few nights ago we tried to do the Meta in TD. We were close to beating the Grent Chak, when the other two lanes failed and so the entire event failed.
Personally I think the lanes should be independent of one another. If one fails, the others can still be completed.
I think Anet build the Meta this way to encourage players to work together to accomplish a task, but it’s simply not working.
Perhaps a restructuring is in order?
People can pick which lane they want to do, do it enough times successfully and then once they have gotten it down, all three can be completed for an even bigger reward.
As it sits though players get kitten if one lane can’t make it work.
So people simply don’t bother anymore.
It was a good idea but it fails to take into account peoples sense of cost vs benefit when it comes to doing anything in life.
I like playing the game for the adventure portion and playing with my friends but I would also like upgrades.
The issue I have is that the rewards don’t justify the effort.
For example I’ve finished the Personal Story, Heart and Minds on my Necromancer. I soloed it because getting groups for it is rather difficult and even several guild friends who tried it with me gave up on it because of the visual noise and not being sure what it was they needed to do exactly.
When I completed it successfully I received as a reward a piece of exotic armor which was no good for my profession, a 1handed broken Caladbolg (it’s always been a 2handed sword throughout the previous PS tracks, so it’s worthless to my Necro and an exotic rifle (also useless).
To say I was disappointed is an understatement.
After that experience I don’t log in much any more except to gather flax and try to justify my time spent in game.
I’ve raided a few times but the sheer expense of crafting the newer armor (Ministrel’s in this case for my Druid and Ele) is ridiculous. Freshwater Pearls are required for the insignia and the rings and unfortunately they have such a low drop rate that the price on the TP is anywhere from 4g 55s to 7g 55s EACH.
You need 3 Freshwater pearls to craft an insignia, so using the lowest price, that’s 15g (give or take) then the rings, trinkets and amulet require 5 Freshwater Pearls EACH, so that adds up to 125g for just those. Couple that with the armor and you have a total of 215g to craft one set.
Of course the Druid profession is broken atm since in order to heal at all, you have to do a decent amount of dps to activate Celestial Avatar, so I just keep my Druid in Berserker gear and off heal when needed.
Magi is a better alternative or even Nomad’s for my Aura Elementalist. In full Magi gear I kept an entire raid topped off and not dead (once we learned the mechanics).
Since Healing Power seems to have some issues currently (not scaling with gear) then it’s unlikely I’ll craft a Minstrel’s set anytime soon. Anet can either fix the Healing Power scaling and increase the drop rate for Freshwater Pearls or forget about it.
I simply don’t have the money (in game or otherwise) to spend all my in game time farming items to sell so that I can buy these overpriced items. I know it’s other players who are setting the prices, but why introduce a new armor set but give absurdly low drop rates on the items required to craft a set?
Oh I know why. Anet wants me to buy gems and convert it to gold. That won’t happen anytime soon because I’ve spent well over $500 these past few months and with the way things are currently in game, I can’t see the justification for spending anymore until the issues are addressed.
I’ve said my peace on this issue and if it’s ignored, well that’s fine. There are other MMO’s out there and thankfully my Guild plays those as well.
Frankly I’m rather burnt out on HoT already with the frustration I feel daily over the lack of decent drops.
I can understand not handing exotics out like candy, but how about something that won’t affect the economy at all but still give the player something to work towards?
How about account bound Outfits, miniatures or weapon skins?
They would only have value to the player who received them and since they cannot be sold they wouldn’t impact the economy in the least.
I managed to solo this on my Necro Minion Master and the only issue I had was being unable to see the updrafts due to the visual noise. Oh and the rewards were stupid.
I received a one handed exotic sword and a rifle. The particular sword that is given is actually a 2handed, not a 1 handed variety. It’s seen being welded this way through the Personal Story so why change it at the end?
Shouldn’t rewards be something your profession could actually use?
Not everyone has alts.
I would figure that the conclusion of a long Personal Story should have epic rewards and not vendor trash. I wonder what person comes up with this. Perhaps the next time they’re due for a raise they get something similar? Instead of a cash raise, they get a gift card to somewhere they would never shop. It would be about the same thing.
Maybe then they would get the hint?

I was unhappy at first about the amount of XP required to level Masteries. However when you stop to think about it, it makes sense.
If everyone was able to level their masteries quickly, complete all the armor sets in a short time what would there be left to do?
Creating new content takes a lot of time. Besides the graphics, textures, storylines and voice overs there is still the bugs to work out.
The Time Gating seems to exist for two reasons.
Time Gating keeps people playing. If it didn’t exist, people would quickly become bored and stop playing. Sure some might take a break but they will eventually return.
The second reason seems to be obvious.
Arenanet doesn’t have any new content available for release any time soon.
The Time Gating and large XP requirement for Masteries is to give themselves breathing room while they work on new content, hoping that it’s enough to keep players interested.
Hence the nerfs to the Spider farming areas below the village of Jaka Itzel.
CoF wasn’t nerfed because it has no relevancy to HoT zones, but the Spiders do since the farming takes place in those zones.
After watching this I need a nap.
Oh and Revenant axe skill 2 is a teleport to target. As is Leap Through the Mists (or whatever it’s called) on Shiro which nullifies the teleporting frogs.
Frog legs is back on the menu, just don’t tell the Itzel.
The only thing that should be removed is the RNG. Anet said the Legendary is obtainable by any player as long as they are willing to put the effort into it. I myself would rather grind the materials than buy them. It feels more like a real accomplishment than something I viewed as an annoyance and decided to throw money at.
I also understand why we must visit certain world bosses and hope for certain things to happen. This is to keep players in Old World Tyria and playing together as a team. Otherwise old content would become empty.
Has anyone been in the Silver wastes lately? I went there a few days ago (albeit on a weekday) and there were a total of 5 people on the entire map. It’s happening already.
So Anet has done a good thing, we the players who live in this “I want it now generation” just don’t realize it yet.
I like how hard the mobs are. For too long mobs in GW2 have been face roll easy and now the developers have made content challenging again.
Smokescales. The Revenant has a skill on the offhand sword that stabs the foe, then teleports back and pulls the target with them. I use this skill to pull Smokescales out of their smokescreen and kill them pretty quick after that. On my Reaper I simply use the Elite skill “Chilled to the Bone” which freezes the mob in place then it’s simply a matter of shroud, skill 5, 4 and 2 (in that order). Dead Smokescale. On my Ranger I use the knockback skill to punt the mob out of his smoke field.
Every mob has a weakness, something that can be exploited. We as the players must learn what that weakness is and implement it.
This is clearly a l2p issue.
I run full Marauder (the new Zerker gear) on my Revenant (with the exception of Celestial Agate exotic trinkets and rings), a Celestial mace, Cleric’s shield and Zerker 1 handed swords.
All in all using Herald I’ve successfully soloed every Champion (with the exception of the Axe and Blade Master) with very little issue, except lacking a condi cleanse that I have encountered. Sure I died a few times, but after learning the mobs weakness, I exploited it with proper time/reactionary skill use and overcame them.
I’m not an elitist player, I don’t run fractals, nor do I have a single toon with Ascended Armor or Weapons. I simply learn from my mistakes and love the challenge of hard content.
If the mobs were easy, the game would quickly become boring and I would likely stop playing. This also explains time gating on crafting, level gating on being able to use Mastery Points (I have unlocked more than 40) and the high cost of the new Legendaries.
Creating new content takes time and if everything in the game was face roll easy then we the player base would run out of things to do before new content was ready.
Arenanet has taken a real world business model of time and effort and placed it into the game. They have also introduced the concept of RNG, or in the business world what is known as Luck. There are ways to overcome this in the game. So how badly do you want those shinies? You don’t actually need the shinies to play the game, but it’s not Arena Net’s job to just hand them to you.
You paid for the experience when you bought the expansion but you haven’t yet earned the rewards. That comes through improving your skill set and actually putting in the effort. Much like how life is in the real world.
I for one would like to say Thank You Arena Net for keeping it real.
Ye, well it never hurts to be safe now than sorry later. I PMed Gaile so I’ll await for an official response. If it is legitimate then they really need to coordinate their advertising for such things between the official forums, Twitter and Facebook.
There is a post on the GW2 Facebook page about a supposed Sweepstakes that is being offered. I asked around and found that Arena Net doesn’t actually run said page and I then asked a dev about it and they had no knowledge of it.
Is this legit or a possible scam.
No link provided, search at your own risk.
You can buy the Viper recipes from the TP.
Check out the Youtube channel Brazil. he has complete Revenant builds with explanations of the traits, weapons, runes etc.
I’ve repeatedly completed the Hero Point fights near Treacherous Paths Waypoint in Verdant Brink and received no credit. I did manage to get credit for it during the first week of launch on one character but not on any of the others since.
Also on my Druid, I received no credit for the Golem Hero Point fight in Auric Basin, possibly because I was healing and not fighting the Champion Golems?
This should be addressed or at least make it clear that a player must dps the Champion.
Thank you.
So when today will this take place?
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Cathbadb.6079
Anet is guilty of the classic Bait and Switch.
Lure people into buying the expansion with these new Elite Specializations and then tell them they must earn X amount of points before they can actually be played. Essentially we have to play through all four maps to unlock enough points for the ES and then go back and play through the content again to experience them.
This wasn’t stated up front though people have asked over and over again. Arena Net enticed people to buy the expansion, with the implication that upon reaching level 80, the ES would be just another trait line….unlockable with Hero Points we already have….but that’s not what they’re telling us just a few days from launch.
I feel like I have been intentionally misled.
I currently spend $200 per month on this game in the Gem Store.
I understand this is likely not Colin’s fault, he just an employee doing what he’s told.
Still the feelings of disgust I have towards this company will keep me from spending any more real world currency on this game until we (the playerbase) get a detailed explanation as to WHY this information was with held until just a few days from release.
New players or those coming back after a long hiatus don’t have those. But thanks for the reminder.
If it weren’t for the Wedding Dress, Asura would have no dresses at all.
I played my Revenant as a Guardian heal bot (on boss encounters). I specced into Cleric’s gear with Dolyak runes but left the trinkets, rings and amulet as Celestial. I used a 1h mace and shield. I also used the Ventari Legendary stance and it proved quite survivable. I would tank bosses and have the Tablet right next to me. There were times when the Champion Hylek would do his stomp and my hp would go from 20k instantly down to 1200 hp at which time I would use the “bubble”/Refuge skill on the tablet and heal myself up while reflecting projectiles from Snipers. A couple of things about the Tablet. While the bubble is up, it can be moved, which means if targeted by a Sniper you can run up to them (moving the bubble along with you) and get in his face with no damage taken. I noticed that when their arrows hit the bubble, I was healed for the amount of damage I would have otherwise taken. It was a way to cheese Snipers that I discovered quite by accident. If someone else is running Legendary Dwarf stance and you’re running Ventari, you can pretty much tank and spank most Chmps as the brick road gives stability and the Refuge bubble gives heals, condi cleanses and burst heals. You can also give aoe heals by blowing it up, although I preferred not to do this as the combat animations make it difficult to see the tablet chunks on the ground.
The Revenant reminds me a lot of my Engineer who can do the same as any other class, though not quite as good, with the exception of heals. I played a Guardian in full Nomad gear (including trinkets, rings, etc) and the Ventari Revenant rarely ever went down but also did decent dps, whereas the Nomad Guardian did almost none.
The different Legendary stances allow you to switch between heals and dps with a simple weapon/stance swap or out of combat you can switch to a different stance altogether and control conditions on yourself and others (Demon stance). The class takes the best of Warriors, Guardians, Mesmers Thieves and Elementalists and rolls them into one profession, depending upon stances and weapon/armor sets.
I foresee Revenants in their current state as being the go to profession for Raids. Since raids allow up to 10 people, Revenants would likely compromise at least three spots if not more simply because of the variety of stances. Step out of combat, switch stances (from the two available in combat), change gear and weapons, step back in and fill another role. Other professions cannot do that.
This was my first time playing the HoT Beta and I made a Revenant, Reaper, and a Tempest. Out of the three I would say Revenant was the most played.
When I first created the character, I specced it like a Guardian for heals and toughness, Cleric’s armor with Dolyak runes, 1 handed mace with shield but I added 1 handed Berserker swords for the Shiro Legendary Assassin stance. I used the 1 handed mace/shield for Ventari or Dwarf stance. I found the Dwarf stance to be okay, the yellow brick road saved my comrades quite a few times (don’t know the names of the new abilities yet, so that’s what I call it), however I found myself switching between Ventari and Shiro most often.
People around me were impressed with the Tablet and said so many times. The combination of burst heals, refuge, condi cleanse made it a joy to play. Playing Shiro with the Shadowstep abilities was comparable to playing a Thief in heavy armor. After I learned the mechanics of the Profession, there wasn’t an NPC I couldn’t take down solo (except for Champions). The teleporting Hyleks were a pain at first but coupled with Shiro’s Shadowstepping abilities made short work of them very quickly.
Our Guild ran together on Saturday, and the Revenant was quite useful. I did discover much to my dismay that Reaper was lacking if you went full Berserker as the 2 Handed Sword is for that build (no condi damage). Rather disappointed there. A friend who plays Necro often went repeatedly down as his Reaper simply didn’t have the defense to keep himself up for very long.
Later on I made my own Reaper and specced full Rabid gear, armor, trinkets, weapons but use a Greatsword just to see what it was all about. It was rather subpar and my combat log showed damage tics of under 100 pts or less, whereas Scepter/dagger were much higher per tic. Shroud is where it’s at. Skill number four and five is awesome and I found myself in the Silverwastes fighting a fort full of Mordrems with very little danger to myself as long as stayed in Shroud which was easy if I used Spectral Armor. I did discover that Foor in Grave doesn’t seem to work as intended as the mobs could run me over in shroud. Sometimes I would have stability and sometimes not.
I do think that while in the downed state there should be some way to gain stability to prevent rollover from mobs as you’re trying to heal. The mounted mobs in Verdant Brink and the SW made going into the downed state most annoying. I would of course try to target the NPC with the least amount of health and Life Siphon/Rally off them, but the constant multiple run overs made this nigh impossible.
I found the Reaper most enjoyable in a condi build but as stated before was disappointed that the Great sword is a Power build weapon.
I joined my guild in some WvW later on and the Reaper was quite enjoyable. Occasionally I would get jumped by a lone Thief or Guardian and have a nice quick battle on my hands. A Thief vs a Reaper in Shroud is a losing battle for the Thief every time and they die very quickly. I thought he had stealthed, only to see him several yards away in a downed state. I think what surprised me most about the encounter was the Legendary champion title below the toon’s name. Maybe the payer was sick that day, or his cat jumped on the keyboard , spoiling his timing. Whatever it was, it seemed like blind luck on my part as I rarely SPvP.
The Guardian put up more of a fight and I made the mistake of chasing after him and he led me into a mob of his friends. Shroud (with it’s distorting effects around the screen) can make it difficult to see enemy NPC’s at range. Yeah he killed me and came at me later again and got whipped.
I tried the Tempest all of 5 minutes, hated the Elite skills and didn’t even bother. For a light armor class it seems really weird to have to be in melee range to pull off most of the effects. Also since I usually run a D/D Sinister/ Runes of Balthazar build I was very disappointed to not see those runes included in the Beta armor sets, so I had to pull some out of my bank.
Still, it wasn’t really impressive. My regular non Beta Ele has better survival and dps than the Tempest, so um yeah……
All in all a very fun experience and offhand I can’t think of anything I would change, except maybe the Revenant Shiro issues of sometimes Shadow stepping into terrain and being unable to get out (unless I way point).
(edited by Cathbadb.6079)
After watching some of the Beta footage and character models for the Revenant class, particularly the human race I thought the profession looked somewhat familiar. The armor, fighting style (in some cases) and even the addition of a blindfold are very similar to the character of Takahasi Kenshi from the Mortal Kombat series.
Here’ a link: http://mortalkombat.wikia.com/wiki/Kenshi_Takahashi
Thank you.
Kindest regards.
As to the creating of a Revenant placeholder, I suspect I will have to wait for an actual Beta Weekend to do so as I still get the message “Upgrade to Heart of Thorns to unlock the Revenant profession” or simply that somehow the upgrade is linked to the receipt of the gems I also get with my purchase. Seems odd. I even checked my account via the link on the upper right side of this page and it shows I have the HoT upgrade already, so why do I get the message to upgrade when I already have done so and it’s been confirmed via e-mail and the information on my account page?
Perhaps after upgrade a new message could be placed that says, “Revenant Profession only unlockable during Beta Weekends and after game release.”
I mention this topic because several of my friends and people in Map chat have stated they already have their placeholder Revenant characters. Part of pre-purchasing would be the chance to actually reserve a particular name as I did with the original release of GW2. Doesn’t seem like a big deal and of course others have already been able to do so.
So is this some sort of bug?
I was reading another thread and came across that comment about the Veteran free character slot being released later on.
Thanks you for your reply.
Much appreciated.
So I’m a Veteran payer, having played the GW2 Beta Events (Not HoT as of yet) and today I bought the Ultimate Edition of Heart of Thorns through the game, via the Gem Store.
So upon logging to my character screen I notice I have 5 extra slots, 4 of which are marked Beta, which I figure will likely be deleted after the game launches on October 23rd, 2015 as they are only for testing purposes.
According to this FAQ
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Veteran players who registered their game before January 2013 (which I have) will receive a free character slot. The Ultimate Edition has an extra character slot, but you pay extra for that slot, vs the other editions.
So my question is. Since I’m a Veteran player (guaranteed a “free” slot) and I also purchased the Ultimate Edition of Heart of Thorns, shouldn’t I therefore have 2 extra permanent slots instead of just 1?
A second question concerning Revenant character creation. While I understand Revenant aren’t playable until the game releases, could I not just at least go ahead and choose the race, gender and name for my Revenant prior to October 23, 2015? I tried to do so and received a mouse over message on the Revenant icon that I need to upgrade to HoT (I have already received an e-mail confirmation from Arena Net of my purchase, complete with serial code) in order to proceed. I have also received the various account bound items, but no gems yet (it hasn’t been 72 hours yet).
So why can I not unlock and make a Revenant placeholder even though I have upgraded already?
Whilst talking to a Guild member who is an IT specialist, it seems to be a login server issue. I am unsure it this helps but those of us who are on the East Coast cannot get in to WvWvW or SPvP, but anyone on the West Coast can login with no issue. Unsure at present about people from Europe or Australia.
Same for me and other Guild members on Sanctum of Rall server.
I’m rather annoyed because I just bought gems to transfer my characters from Tarnished Coast and now I can’t play with my Guild in WVW. It’s odd because some Guild members can get into WvW and EotM and others cannot. It seems odd because of the megaservers.
Ah well, Anet will get it fixed eventually.
Posted this under Wallet or PvP bug:
Confirmed bug. Silky Sand rarely dropping loot if at all.
Just finished Silver Wastes on my Engineer and received 170 Piles of Silky Sand and received 1 Dry Top key. That’s it. No Geodes or anything else. I kinda need the Geodes to buy the Hymonoptera recipe in DT.
Hello:
I just completed a few rounds of SPvP on my Necro and completed the Maguuma Wastes track. Upon exiting the map and going back to the lobby I proceeded to open my loot bags and besides the other things, I received 270 piles of Silky Sand which I double clicked to open and received 10 piles of Silky Sand. Nothing else. I tried to open my Wallet to see if perhaps there were some Geodes deposited there since they are a form of currency and the Wallet won’t open when I click the amount of gold I have on the lower right hand side of my inventory tab.
So my issue is two fold.
1) Wallet won’t open
2) No loot from Piles of Silky Sand.
Thanks you for your time.
Did you trait fall damage yet? Also go with a team, include at least one Mesmer. On Sharkmaw, stand between the two middle teeth and slide down. There are walkthru vids on Youtube for SharkMaw Caverns JP and Lion’s Arch Exterminator.
Confirmed. Before the patch I was able to give the “password” and enter the Inn and terminate with extreme prejudice all non-residents karka.
Now no one can talk to the NPC to give the password.
However I did get my Princess.
The recent patch seems to have bugged the event where you have to give a password. People cannot talk to the NPC now. Door doesn’t open.
But besides that, there’s a walkthru video on Youtube.
Be sure to read the comments as number 11 was edited out by mistake.

I’ve been reading through all these forums posts for the last few days and while there are some good points, there are also some very bad ones.
As a Veteran player I felt at first that Arena Net owed me something. They don’t. I bought the game 3 years ago and have enjoyed it on and off again. I’m no software developer and for the most part I have no idea what goes into making a video game, much less one with the beautiful landscapes and variety of content this one has.
Take a look at the Arena Net website, just the front page ( https://www.arena.net/ ) and tell me does that not look like a happy place? Just from looks alone I would rather work there than where I do now. It looks so inviting. These people have a passion for this game and here we are slinging mud at their “baby” all because of our sense of entitlement. For shame!
I pity the people whose job it is to moderate these forums. It’s like walking into a war zone every day. No wonder we don’t get many responses.
As for Heart of Thorns it’s reasonable to me for Arena Net to ask what they want for all their hard work, after all they will need the money for server upgrades to be able to handle the new Condition specializations and the influx of new players with the release of HoT. Plus they have to pay their employees.
As a veteran player myself who was in the GW2 Beta and for some time afterwards I think many current players are suffering from a sense of entitlement.
Let me put it another way and use an example someone else already used in their post.
You go into a Department Store and buy a shirt and pants for $50 and are quite happy. Three years later that same shirt and pants are on sale and as an extra incentive the store throws in a pair of shoes for free.
Now how likely is it that if you went back to this store, showed them your receipt from three years ago that they would give you a pair of shoes for free?
Not gonna happen and you know this but many people cry, pout and stomp their feet anyway.
I’ll tell you exactly what will happen with the majority of the player base on this issue. They will continue to make post after post, they’ll call the Developers and Moderators all sorts of names, threaten litigation or to quit the game.
When Heart of Thorns does get released people will be overwhelmed with all the sugar coated goodies in the game. They will show off their loot to people who said on these forums (myself included) that they weren’t going to buy HoT unless there was a character slot included in the $50 version and you know what will happen?
Those who previously whined, pouted and name called will buy the expansion and buy the slot with gold or gems.
All this nonsense on the forums will have been for nothing.
You know this and Arena Net knows this.
There is a very simple way to solve this issue. You don’t like the current offer? Don’t buy Heart of Thorns. Keep playing regular old GW2 and I’ll see you in LA with my fancy schmancy Glider Skin and you can read on map chat how much fun I have jumping off high cliffs and gliding to areas that you can’t get to. I’ll talk about epic battles and interesting story lines while you have nothing but more hours of grinding in Silver Wastes and Dry Top for geodes and keys. I’ll also show off my new Legendary which is only attainable with Bind on Account materials from the Heart of Thorns release.
I know what will happen. You won’t be able to stand it. You’ll give in and buy Heart of Thorns.
See you in game (wherever that ends up being).
Part of the issue I have is the lack of feedback on content. We have no real idea what we are getting but are being asked to pay up front. I suspect what the issue is, is the game isn’t close to release. They need the money to actually finish the game, (which is why there are few teasers and not much information).
With every other MMO I have played the developers have been more than happy to show all the new areas, dungeons, playable races, etc, but not Anet. They’re being awfully secretive about everything, as if HoT was a stand alone game and something entirely brand new.
So far past history has shown that Arena Net is not to be trusted.
You have the fiasco that occurred with Super Adventure Box (buy an Infinite Continue Coin from the Gem Store but it’s been two years since any new SAB content), the Gem Store fiasco where you can only buy a set amount of Gems rather than the exact amount you want and the amount of gems needed to purchase a shiny is off by a small margin, meaning that by buying their set increments you’re always down a small amount and must purchase more to get exactly what you wanted.
Then there is Mawdrey. They don’t tell you up front that in order to complete Mawdrey you must have the Living Story Season 2 unlocked and complete the “Party Politics” story. Anyone who either didn’t keep the chaos orb or who wasn’t around for the mini expansion (which is only available now for purchase for 200 gems) cannot craft Mawdrey, unless they buy it the LS Season 2 xpac. Sure you can convert gold but many working adults simply don’t have the time to grind for that amount of gold for a back piece and so they will go the easy route and use a credit card for gems (which is what Anet is counting on).
In the past few months we have been shown new Elite specializations or different looks for already existing professions. People got hyped about this until yesterday when Arena Net released the pre patch notes on how conditions will work and the new profession balancing system. It seems the developers after asking for player feedback, simply ignored that feedback. In any business, you cater to your customers wants. Anet doesn’t seem to do this. They give us what they think we should have and we should be happy with it. By ignoring customer feedback they essentially destroyed all the hype people had about the new specializations as races will actually be less powerful than before and people will be forced to start from scratch with builds, making HoT very difficult for most people to play. Lots of character death in the future. It took many months and even years for the Metas to develop, now all that will be gone.
Finally. If HoT has the same amount of maps, dungeons, JP’s as the base GW2 game then I would have no issue paying $50. But from what we’ve seen so far it’s not.
Right now I have no plans to buy Heart of Thorns and am actively looking into other MMO’s.
There has been numerous posts about this and Arena Net has yet to respond in a detailed way to any of it. This makes me think that either they don’t care what the customers have to say (which past history reinforces) or they simply haven’t come up with a response yet.
Elite specializations, trait changes, condition changes (all which have been nerfed heavily before going live) and the lack of comparable content to GW2 or even the old GW1 games gives me serious pause when it comes to buying HoT (pre-purchase or not) and even continuing to spend any more money on this game.
The price Arena Net is asking for the expansion simply doesn’t compare to what they have offered in the past, what the core game offered upon release and seems more of a money grab than anything else because we have no real idea of what we are getting since they’ve been most secretive concerning how big the xpac really is. Yeah they’ve shown us the new features being rolled out, but how many maps and dungeons are we getting? I suspect HoT is basically Silver Wastes and Dry Top rolled into one. Pretty small in comparison to what they have done in the past and to me, not really worth my hard earned money.
So until Arena Net gives a detailed response, I’ll keep my money in my pocket.
So I’m trying to craft Mawdrey, I have the Cultivated Seed and need to make the Chaos Infused Pot, the only issue is that I require a Chaos Orb which from what I have read on the GW2 Wiki page and Dulfy.net can only be acquired from “Party Politics” of The Dragon’s Reach which was a part of the Living World which I have never done, nor own a gem bought copy.
It seems as though I’m going to have to buy the Living World expansion in order to acquire this Chaos Orb.
Is this correct or does anyone have any other information?
Same for me. I simply logged out to the character select screen and back in and it was gone.
Understood about the XP boostyer as I figured this was the issue. However since going out to randomly kill Bandits and such in Queensdale, I haven’t received much extra experience as far as I can tell. So it seems to not be working as well.
As stated previously though I should have been well ahead of the guide I was using (have used it previously) instead of hitting each new crafting level exactly when the guide said I would. Basically the booster provided no new crafting experience.
I don’t think it’s a bug. It’s been this way for a while. It’s to indicate they are alert I suspect. After the battle is over the ears will go back down. Happens to all my Asura as well (male and female alike).
Hello:
Today I purchased some experience boosters from the Gem Store and also bought some Black Lion keys which yielded two crafting boosters from chests. I took this opportunity to level Huntsman and Leather Working to 400 on my level 4 Engineer. I bought all the necessary mats as indicated my gw2crafts.net and used the Crafting Booster and for fun used an XP booster as well. When I was done my Engineer was level 25 1/2.
Something peculiar I noticed was that following the guide as it’s written (which doesn’t include the use of a booster) I arrived at each new crafting level EXACTLY as the guide said I would.
Forgive me if I am in error, but I was under the impression that using a booster increases your crafting skill level by 50% as indicated in the tool tip but this clearly wasn’t the case as I would have reached max level on crafting 50% faster, instead of reaching each new skill level exactly when the guide said I would.
Something seems amiss.
I guess boosters also do not stack, hence why the XP booster didn’t give meany extra experience in addition to the Crafting one.
Just a side note. When the game was patched recently and then we had multiple patches (the New Lion’s Arch layout), I had used a Celebration Booster on my Guardian. Afterwards I was kicked from the game when it restarted (although it was announced in-game 20 seconds before that there would be a new build in 50 minutes). After downloading the patches and l logged back in to discover my Celebration booster was gone, to be replaced with some type of Mists (PvP) buff on all my characters.
Lately I’ve been spending on average $35 every two weeks on my account, $50 so far this week. I hope to spend more in the future but will wait and see if this is just a bug or working as intended.
Disconnected 5 times since patch and twice during Swamp Behemoth event, only to have the event over when I logged back the third time.
So far I have experienced 5 disconnects since the new patch. The first three were of no big concern, but the final two are a major annoyance as they occurred during the Swamp Behemoth event. One disconnected me as I arrived in the zone with the event already underway. Upon immediately reconnecting I found myself back at the Godslost way point with the event about to start. So I waited until it began, tagged the Boss and was disconnected again. When I immediately re-logged the event was over. It wasn’t just me but many others in the zone as well.
There will be other Boss events so I’m not too worried about missing this one.
Just a suggestion for the Anet devs, perhaps you should set up a test server to test new patches before the patch goes live. This would save both you and us a lot of headaches and reduce posts such as these to a minimum.
Other than this, I enjoy the game and the Anet devs do a great job.
When I open the TP and try to use the search function, the WvWvW function opens.
