Why The Stat Cap Is So Important

24, Canada. Filed for a refund last night after reading the Reddit interview, which (it seems to me) amounted to “We didn’t break the manifesto; we just arbitrarily redefined some of the terms and weren’t explicit about our intentions. See, you CAN trust us!”

And if I weren’t such a cynical kitten to begin with, I would’ve cried while doing it.

So Long, and Thanks For All The Quaggans

I just wanted to say goodbye. Doesn’t look like Anet will be reversing this decision any time soon. (I think you can guess the one I mean.) So, that’s it for this kitten.

Did I need to make a new topic for this? Probably not, but I wanted to know that at least one person would read what will presumably be my final message here – even if that person is only the mod who deletes it.

I’ve discovered a few things I’ve disliked about GW2 over the past few months, but I kept pumping money into the gem store because I liked the game overall and – perhaps more importantly – had faith in the team. Now, though, I feel… betrayed. This is not what I signed on for.

Leaving aside whether the new tier is objectively good or bad for the game (though needless to say, I feel it’s the latter), this is not what we were promised. The trust is gone.

This isn’t a ragequit. I am not a ragequitter. This will be the first time I’ve ever left an MMO out of anything other than boredom. I’m sad to do it, but unless and until Anet does something to restore my faith in their commitment to their mission statement (a prospect the appears increasingly unlikely), it appears Red Stieg, Caedhwynn, Brytania et al will be cooling their heels.

TL;DR: So long, and thanks for all the quaggans.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

No new vertical tiers. If this bollocks gets released as-is, I’m going back to DDO.

(Actually, I’m going back to DDO RIGHT NOW. I’ll check in with GW2 in a few days to see what’s happened. If we have a new tier of stats, I ain’t coming back. Because if you can’t trust the devs to stick by their fething MISSION STATEMENT, well…)

Further to the above:

I’m currently feeling a strong urge to head back over to DDO. If nothing else, they’re honest.

It’s as annoying as kitten, to be sure. I’m hoping a lot of soulbound vs. account bound stuff gets reexamined in the future, frankly.

Why not make dungeon solo-able?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cenobite.2769

Cenobite.2769

why should they?

Because:

I’d like to see a soloable version of story mode (and story mode ONLY). No tokens, no phat lewtz; I just want to, well, see the story. And given that you can’t even finish the PERSONAL story line without a group, well…

It can be VERY difficult to find a group for story mode, depending on time of day, overall server population and probably half a dozen other factors I haven’t thought of yet. Added to this, some of us* have broadband connections of dubious stability, meaning even if a group CAN be found there’s a chance to drop with little to no warning – and when there are four other people counting on you, not only do you not get to finish the dungeon but you come out looking like an kitten.

In short: solo story mode please.

*Yes, I do mean me.

You’re right; there ARE many fine single player games out there. And if I wanted to be playing them, I would be.

I think he’s kidding. But yeah, this would be nice simply for the option to go all “Conan the Barbarian” – though I suppose the pit fighter chest piece works well enough.

Dungeon: solo path

No.

I’d like to see the STORY MODE for each dungeon made soloable, but this is exactly why people are leery of that idea – making it a viable long-term, farmable option encourages antisocial behavior and removes a lot of incentive to interact with other players, dungeons being the one thing in this game that absolutely require cooperation.

Elite trait for completing a trait tier.

Cenobite.2769

Hm. I find the idea sort of interesting. What if it were just a new elite skill? That wouldn’t penalize those who haven’t got 30 in any one line nearly so hard. In fact, it likely wouldn’t be used by most of those who DO have 30 in a trait line – but it’d be nice to have the option. Thoughts?

We need more skills. Especially Weapon skills.

They will most likely add more weapons , so we will get more skills.

But adding + skills per weapon so we could select which ones we want? Dont think it will ever be implemented.

Really , for a guard it would already become much harder to balance … now imagine the hell the devs would see balancing ele.

While you’re probably right, I do think that a limited version could be implemented without too much fuss. Were I the one in charge, I’d probably consider a good compromise to be two skills per slot per weapon, leaving the auto-attack as is. (So, four new skills per weapon.) You could probably recycle a lot of the animations from other classes with a few tweaks, so that would cut down on dev time a little as well.

But maybe that wouldn’t be enough for some people. Me, I’d just like the option to replace Whirlwind Attack with a block skill…

(And this, for the record, is coming from a bloke, and one who’s rather fond of his eye-candy at that. So it’s not just the girls who have a problem with the idea.)

Haven’t read the rest of the thread yet; this was just such an awesome mental image that I had to reply immediately. I’m not really a “laughed so hard I fell out of my chair” sort of guy, but if I were, this would’ve done it. I can’t seem to stop grinning.

I can see both sides of the argument here. It really isn’t that hard to find a group (and I play in one of the less populated worlds), and this IS an MMO after all. That said, I’d personally like to see a solo-able version for story mode (and story mode only).

My reasons for this may be a bit unusual: due to the area I live in, my internet connection can be, shall we say, a bit spotty. It’s perfectly possible for me to be going along lag-free one minute and then suddenly drop as my connection speed goes down the kitten. (It can stay that way for hours, too.) What’s worse, it’s largely unpredictable. Consequently, I prefer to avoid putting myself in situations where others are relying on me to make it through a given piece of content. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to SEE said content, however.

(And before someone comes along and says “Sorry for your troubles; go play Skyrim,” think about it for a moment. Is saying what amounts to “love the current system or GTFO” really a useful response, particularly in a SUGGESTIONS sub-forum?)
