What happened to "Play your way"?

Ok so in a recent update traits and skills got a major overhaul. While I like they style I am dismayed at the reduced choice.

Firstly I now only have 3 traits to choose from per slot where previously I could use lesser traits in the higher slots.

Secondly now I have to unlock all the traits skills before I can use any of them. Where as before I could use them as I unlocked them.

Thirdly now I can only unlock traits in a specific order where previously I was able to unlock the ones I needed before unlocking the others.

Fourthly now I am restricted to using only 3 trait lines where previously I could have traits active in a 5 lines if I chose to.

While I understand the need to make things easier to balance for PvP there are some of us who only PvE. These changes restrict the way we play compared to pre patch. I now have to change the way I play on several characters that I have played the same way since their creation.

Please, can’t you just do seperate balancing for PvE and PvP so the balancing need of one does not negatively impact on the other?

It has always been “Play your way” with your way being “Anets Way”!

$50.00 for an expansion! They are insane, I don’t care if it includes the original GW2. It is an expansion. This is stupid and they will not get any money from me, my fiancé and my kids!

They are showing their greed now! I hope this flops hard!

What if PvE was very difficult?

While I understand peoples what/need for more difficult content, it would be difficult for Anet to do this. They would almost have to have a way that you could change a setting on your character to maybe reduce their own stats.

If they where to just up the difficulty in open PvE you would first see a lot of complaints, then you would see a lot of people leave (not good for game).

OP, I agree Anet took a turn with the game that I don’t like (Ascended gear/treadmill). I also find it strange that they push out events but leave obvious bugs in the game. bugs that have been there since betas.

Anyway, hopefully they will see the vast sea of complaints and turn their vision back to what it was supposed to be.

Everyone can be mad at the companies all they want, but the fact of the matter is that the market shifts to where the money is if the company is competent.

So, if the money is in appeasing the demographic that WoW players inhabit, then the games will continue to be more like WoW.

The only 100% sure fire way to ensure that this stops is simple: Stop giving companies your money.

Seriously. It is quite literally the only way it will happen.

As much as I hate the gear treadmill, I have to agree with you. Everyone that buys a game that has a gear treadmill in it just makes every developer after that say hey, it’s a money maker and they add it.

Granted GW2 advertised as having no treadmill and that was a selling point for me, but since they have now added it I am speaking with my wallet. I have received a refund on 1 account, have put in for a refund on my second account, my fiancé has done the same as well as the friends that came to this game with us.

Cerulean.5142

The server population is getting ridiculously low. I’m sitting alone on the map. I mean no problem in the lower zones, but places like Orr and Malchor’s leap its pretty much impossible to get anything done.

Almost all the waypoints are contested. I managed to get all the waypoints near the temples, but clearing them with no players is impossible. This game really doesn’t work when nobody is playing with you.

I tried transfering servers but the new one wasn’t better than the one I left. You guys really need a fix for this. Perhaps automatic server merges when the population dips too low? I saw someone suggest underflow servers. Not a bad idea. Clearly something needs to be done.

I am sure others will tell you (I didn’t read the other posts) that they see people all over and basically you imagined it.

I was on a lower pop server (well Anet says it has high pop but I don’t believe it) Fergusons Crossing and transferred to a server now marked Full (yeah right) in Sanctum of Rall. After finding very few people in a lot of tiers I then transferred to Darkhaven (had some guildmates go there, we where looking for a populated server) and it was dead.

We did manage to transfer to Isle of Janther before suddenly half the servers (surprisingly al the better wvw servers) became marked full and stay full no matter what time of day. Now on this “full” server I have seen a lack of people in the lower/mid zones. Oh I will stumble across one or two every now and again in these zones, but trying to do DEs is almost non-existent as they just don’t start (not enough people).

In the upper zones (Orr) I tend to see more people (A lot less after the latest bot purge) but normally not enough to complete some of the harder DEs thus they end up being stuck since they cant be completed.

So ignoring the people who constantly say the zones are fine, or say get in a guild (what good is a guild when they are not around a zone your in?). OK, ok, yes some people in guilds will come to help when you ask, but really, most people who are already doing something wont stop what they are doing to come help. They may say, give me x amount of minutes then I will help. Of course you are stuck waiting/hoping that they actually show up.

Anyway, yes, the pop is dropping. Yes it tends to go up for events, although after the fiasco Anet had this weekend I wonder how many people will show for the next event in December. I think that sometime in the spring (about the 6-8 month period) Anet will start looking into merges. But remember, Anet needs to fix some things first. Currently they don’t have the ability to transfer guilds, they will need to fix this before merging. They also will need to remove servers 3 at a time (because of wvw).

So if you are on a server that seems dead, just hang in there if you still want to play and sometime in the future they will start merges.

A suggestion regarding ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cerulean.5142

Cerulean.5142

Apparently Anet has plans to release more ascended gear, while many players, including myself, are not happy about this. I have a solution that might make everyone happy.

The idea is to create two types of servers: “ascended” servers and “normal” servers. On ascended servers, new content is released with ascended gear. On normal servers, new content is released with new exotic gear with the same stats as existing exotic gear and the same names/look as ascended gear. Offer free transfer between different types of servers for a few months.

This way Anet will keep both players who like horizontal progression and those who like vertical progression.

While a good idea it would cause more problems then it is worth. As stated in other posts, wvw, guestings, transfers, AH, mail, all of these things would have to be blocked or highly modified before they could even do it.

In the long run…..

You guys will still be here lol!
Anet know that we love this game tooooo much.
After all the complaining they still proceed with it without a word.
Cause its free. They know you’ll come back. Again and again.
Even if you leave for a month or two or three. You will come back!

But i wonder if they know after all these, will we buy The Expansion???
That is the question!
Tbh if its subs based mmo, loads of players had already unsub when they continue with this change.

To those who think i support this. Read my previous posts carefully.
Its Sarcasm! To the fanbois. But i think its already been removed as i got a 24hr banned from forums

Whether you are being sarcastic or not, I for one will NOT be here. I have already been refunded on 1 account. I have requested a refund on my other account, should have it tomorrow. My fiancé and my other friends who joined us in this game of lies have also requested refunds.

So will we be here in 6 months, NO!

I hope enough people request refunds that Anet takes a step backwords and look into the mistakes they have made. Maybe if they make ascended gear the same stats as exotic or vice-versa, then maybe we will come back. But until they SHOW us that they will have no gear treadmill (a statement will not do) then my $140 (not counting my fiancé and friends money) is gone and wont be back.

gw2 is becoming sadistically ungreebly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cerulean.5142

Cerulean.5142

There are many beefs I have with the game at present that make this game fall into a ‘bad joke’ among mmo’s realm;

1. Diminishing returns; play in a zone for more than 1 hour and drop rates there become greys. Leave the game for an hour come back and get good drops again. This also applies to WvW; what the ? If this was a mechanic to punish bots, it also punishes regular players too.

2. Jumping puzzles; whoever thought of making this a mandatory mechanic was a sadistic soul; getting their jollies off watching us FAIL over and over and over again.

3. Just to add another little sadistic kick to this; MAKE HALF MY SKILLS THAT ARE WORTH HAVING CAUSE ME TO LEAP OFF OF PLATFORMS IM FIGHTING ON!!! Dodge the mob attacking you? Over you go! Bottom of the cliff for you!

4. Putting nodes in impossible to reach places; a lone farmer vs 50 mobs in the node areas. This further reinforces the idea that the staff must not like gamers.

5. Fractals are a grindfest the likes of which we have not seen since EverQuest 1.

6. Add in the fact that IF 1 person happens to drop from your group during a fractal… you CANNOT get another person to come, but instead must finish AS IS… or start over.

If you play mmo groups for any amount of time; eventually someone will disconnect. Whether it is by their choice or not; the group should not have to suffer!

7. Legendaries; the grind from beyond.

This entire scenario is forcing a sickening grind on us, but then adding in diminishing returns = a game which is unreasonably sadistic to the point of disgust.

OK, I agree that there are issues with GW2. I have even cancelled 1 account and am preparing to cancel the other, but I will comment on your issues. I also understand that you most likely will flame me for them but anyway, I don’t care.

1. You understand this was added to help combat the bots. I am not saying it works 100%, but as you have discovered leave the zone and come back later. If you are talking about the high-end zones there is more then one of those, so you can move around.

2. Jumping puzzles are not mandatory. You do not have to do them. If you wish to get the achievements from them the yes you have to do them otherwise just skip them.

3. This is part of hate to say it, learning to play. If you know you are on a platform with little room then you must adapt. Don’t use your dodge, don’t use skills that cause you to be knocked back.

4. Besides Orr I haven’t seen any nodes that have a lot of mobs surrounding them. Even in Orr there usually isn’t more then 2 or 3 mobs near the node, so not sure what you are talking about.

5. Wont comment on this one, haven’t played them and wont play them.

6. Again I haven’t played this or any dungeon for that matter, don’t like them, so I have no comment.

7. While I agree that legandaries are a pain in the backside to get and I do think that they should change the way they are obtained or give us another way to get them (maybe a long quest chain that has 15-20 steps in it and maybe even require help with it). Anyway the method was put in to keep us busy for months, unfortunately some people found ways to get them faster then Anet planned and now we have the start of the gear treadmill.

Anyway, flame me or not. Doesn’t really matter. As I said I canceled and got a refund on my 1 account and I am about to get a refund on my other account. My fiancé is doing the same as is the friends that came to this game with us. Hope Anet likes losing money over their decision, but they are the ones who lied and that is a fact.

if you stuck with this game for 700 hours, which is the equivilent of 17.5 work weeks at 40 hours a week… the game is obviously pretty good.

not trying to be a troll, but seriously, you need some variation in your life. its no wonder you are not happy right now.

Its funny, you and others in this thread comment that since the OP has stuck with the game for so long then it must be good or the OP just likes punishment. I can remember people posting their comments saying they had under 400 hours played and people complained saying they didnt have enough time in game to make any comments.

Basically what you are saying is that no matter how many hours you play you cant comment. Well for one I welcome OPs comments, even though they are more of complaints, but he has played the game more then long enough to have developed these opinions.

Whether I agree with them or not, the game needs them. GW2 is not perfect, most of what OP has said has been said many, many times before. Maybe it is time Anet looks at these comments and starts making changes to fixing them.

No they are right,

If you rack up 700+ hours on a game you can’t stand something is really really wrong.

Guess you didnt read OP. He did state that the game has aspects he likes. In other words he likes parts of the game. Enough so that he did play 700+ hours, but he is now fed up with the things he listed. He has the right and responsibility to state these things and not buckle under the pressure of those people who now comdem him for playing the game and complaining about parts of it.

13 Full, 11 High US Servers @ 8:41 am PST (Wed)

Cerulean.5142

Funny, just 2 days after the Halloween event the servers showed only 2 or 3 full on the US side then suddenly they explode with at least 1/2 of them showing full almost 24 hours a day.

I think Anet changed the full tag on alot of the servers to reduce the transfers. Look at the full servers, they are the servers that have been in demand for wvw, now they are alomst always full, can transfer to a full server, so if you really want to transfer then you have to transfer to the mostly lower tier servers.

Cerulean.5142

OP I do agree with you. When I heard that they would give the ability to be in multiple guilds I disliked it and I still do. I know people say, well one day I can represent my WvW guild, the next be with friends, the next be in the dungeon running guild, etc.

To me and from what I have seen, people tend to represent the guild that offers more. My guild is a smaller guild, we dont have the influence that bigger guilds bring in so we dont have all of the bells and whistles. So people represent the bigger guilds and dont if rarely come back.

Being a smaller guild and with now guild tools available, I do track my guild members on paper. Those that dont represent us in 2 weeks get booted. I have yet to hear from anyone I have kicked as to why they where, they really dont care.

Anyway, I still dont like the mechanic of being able to be in multiple guilds at the same time. I really wish they would change it to maybe only officers/leader could be in multiple guilds, thus allowing for the bigger guilds to have their officers/leader to bounce between the guilds in order to manage them, but anyone else in the guild would be limited to 1 guild only.

First off, there really doesnt need to be any official or unofficial leveling server. If you do that why not make an unofficial crafting server or unofficial armorsmithing server (see where I am going?).

I am sure some day Anet will merge servers, most likely not for a few more months. Until then, if you feel your server just doesnt have enough people and until they get guesting fixed, then you need to transfer to another server.

I will ask also, where did you get your numbers?

I think you must have stood around counting people but I believe your numbers are way off. On the different servers I have been on I have seen a wider variety of races. Not saying everyone are even but the population is closer then you have it.

Even Anet, what was it about 2 weeks ago, put out that chart showing the race breakdown and the numbers where a lot closer then yours, so they would have changed that much overnight.

Impact on account hacked players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cerulean.5142

Cerulean.5142

Yes that article is now about 2 months old. Anet did make numerous statement in regards to it. They increased security and since the hacing has decreased. I wont say it has stopped as hackers will find a way into any system if they really want to. GW2 is no exception.

Also as Anet and others have said, a majority of the people hacked tend to use passwords that they use on a variety of sites and in fact the passwords where obtained from people going to other sites and not from Anet.

I know it is upsetting to lose everything. My girlfriend was hacked in GW1, got her account back really fast but things they sold off where gone forever (she was lucy that Anet got the account back before the hacker to transfer the money so she made about 400 gold). Anyway, Anet (I wont speak for other games) rarely ever does any type of rollbacks. Look at the Karma exploit from the first week. Anet didnt rollback anyone, they just required them to delete the items themselves.

Anyway I hope you learned to use a password for GW2 that you dont use anywhere else.

May be a way Guild Wars 2 to go to

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cerulean.5142

Let me add my thoughts on your thoughts.

1. If you where to remove the levels people would become even more bored. At least with the levels I have something to shoot for besides just gear.

2. Most dynamic events already suffer from there not being enough people around to trigger them. By removing dungeons and making more DEs it will only cause more and more things that just dont even start because there are just not enough people in the area. Plus if you remove the dungeons, everyone who loves them will most likely quit.

3. Why? Makes no sense. Whys does an area need this? Is it your idea that with supply camps people wouldgo to them to get those things? If so then it would be nothing but a ton of people waiting for the supplies to hit, they grasb it, fist come first serve. So you have a bas connection, well to bad not supplies for you. Not a good idea.

Also none of the 3 things you listed are the reasons I am bored with GW2 or for that matter from what I see are why most people are bored with GW2. Next time do a little more research on why people are bored before suggesting radical changes.

OP please. I get tired of hearing people say this is unfair because they want to play with friends. Well if they are friends why didnt you roll on the same server as them? If you transferred away from them then why? Guess they arn’t that good of friends to begin with.

I dont think the 7 day period is really going to help with WvW balance. I think we will see even more transfers each week as soon as people see what servers are winning.

Until they put in paid transfers you still are going to see people/guilds transferring heavily.

Also in response to Dibrom: I am not defending the fact that Anet does not have the guesting feature in yet. It is just old hearing people say they cant transfer to be with their friends anytime they want.

Too much emphasis on jumping puzzles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cerulean.5142

Cerulean.5142

I’m confused by the jumping puzzles too. They’re creative and implemented reasonably well given the constraints of the engine and the UI. But they’re not done well, mostly because of the camera, but also because they’re poorly integrated into the overall scheme of the game. That is, they’re something separate and outside of the rest of the content. Their loot is rarely useful to any other activity in the game, they don’t advance the story, they’re not particularly social, they don’t tend to give cosmetic rewards, and the achievement system that they contribute towards is one of the less compelling parts of the game.

I mean, again, they’re there, you’ve made them, that’s great, I’d rather have them than have them deleted. But what’s your aim here? Are there really people that say, “I’ll play THIS online game because it has jumping puzzles and the competitors don’t”? Do you envisage there being players who have finished all the jumping puzzles and who are going to switch to another game unless they get more jumping puzzles in the next update? Do you feel that the players who enjoy jumping puzzles are the same players who’ll spend real money at the Black Lion?

I just can’t see the design rationale behind these, or why Anet would spend development resources making more of them. Again – not saying they’re bad or they’re unfun, just that they’re a baffling choice of development priorities.

Greg, unfortunately I think we will see more and more of these added to the game. I believe that Anet added them to help with it’s “being different” then other games and now there are a number of people that love them.

Granted if Anet would have taken the time to make sure that camera angles worked and that all races could do them with the same amount of ease then they wouldn’t be so bad. The most complained about features of these puzzles is the camera and size of some of the races.

Now with OPs statement, I agree, the reward at the end of the Mad Kings puzzle is out of line in reagrds to the reward to the personal story and it does set a trend to future rewards to some of these low achievable puzzles.

If Anet even admited that they added this puzzle with the belief that only 5% of their customers could do it, well something is wrong with their logic. Sure the people that make it are fine with the puzzle, but those that dont for various reasons (cant do them, bad connections, etc) will either just not do them or they will get so fed up that they will quit. Now some will say well just quit, but if everyone who gets frustrated quits then you will see a lot less servers and population (see SWTOR).

All we’re trying to suggest to you, Chris is that, yes… they’re aware of these issues.
Yes, they’re going to fix these issues.
No, they can’t fix them within an hour they find out about them (unless they’re really lucky)
Yes, you have to be patient.
And finally, yes, they are absolutely aware of the disconnects and problems.

If you have a serious problem and are having a hard time playing, you can take it to the Technical Support forum and ask for help. Otherwise, like Hunterdan said, this isn’t valuable feedback because saying, “You have issues.” is very vague.

Edit: I know this is going to be taken out of context in some form just to claim I’m a “White Knight”.

The problem is that the game has been out for 2 months now and there are still things that are broke/stuck/not working, then they spend they time putting out an event that ends up having the issues it had today.

Almost every (not every) patch they have put out has broken something else. Dungeons still have problems. Skillpoints still bug out. BE still get stuck. These are game breaking problems and need to be fixed.

Guesting, a feature that was supposed to be in at launch is still not available.

WvW is still having problems, sPvP is still suffering with issues.

I will agree that most, not all, but most of the game is playable, but things that should have been fixed to begin with are still broke and new stuff being put out tends to break.

So when they put out a majorly advertised event and it ends up breaking/buggint out it cause major frustration/anger and makes Anet look silly.

I am not arguing that they could have tested servers enough to stop the crash today but this wasnt an issue in GW1 when they had districts. Maybe for the instanced cities they should have used the proven tech that had in GW1 instead of this overflow server crap they have.

Anyone else not able to download patch?

I use a GTX 460 and it is working fine. I can maintain about 20-30 fps in wvw with shadows off and in the PVE zones I normally get 30-40 fps.
