I think it would be cool if they tweaked jewelry to make it so that it could be seen on your character (or hidden if you chose, like you can toggle certain armor pieces on/off), and I think it would be even cooler if a possible ascended or legendary jewelry piece could give your character an aura, as the OP had mentioned. Every other crafting profession (with the exception of chef) produces something tangible that you can see you character – or even your guild hall – using. I want the same for jewelry.
I really like this idea! The wildlife in game is very blah at the moment. I doubt anything will be done about it though, sadly.
Please, please, please release this beautiful dress and her HAIR.. I’ve been waiting for them since Beta!!
Except please just break that stupid no more armor skins in the gemstore rule and release it as armor. I’ve had it up to here with outfits. I want to mix and match and desperately need this outfit and hair! Q.Q
@Omega Zoa, same. I was so pumped about that “destroyer of hope” and then… the letdown.
So I tried out the new WvW map (desert borderlands) for the first time and was in awe of the amazing construction its development team delivered. I absolutely loved the Fire Keep (attempted a screenshot below) and would be mad excited to see some new, “man-made” content in future maps delivered to PvE.
So far, we’ve seen some beautiful scenes of nature across a variety of climates (Maguuma jungle, Ember Bay, etc.), but I think it would be really cool if ANet could also deliver some really sweet fortresses in those settings that we could work to defend against assaulting NPCs – somewhat like the Silverwastes meta, but with significantly cooler and grander defensive positions. They could each have a very unique feel and mechanic, possibly based off the culture that built them, the climate they’re in, or even if they’re being defended by the Vigil or the Order of Whispers, etc.
I would absolutely love to be able to run through the country-side and happen across some sweeping fortress of the Norn that I then have to defend in the Shiverpeaks, or maybe some gargantuan desert citadel crafted by the humans as a bastion against the sands in the possibly-looming Crystal Desert patch? =)
I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts on this.
i actually don’t care how they add armour skins, in-game, gemstore, doesn’t matter to me, i just wish we had way way more of them!
the outfit to armour ratio is getting massively out of hand.
So much this. It’s getting depressing at this point. I play Fashion Wars 2 to show off cool skins and look unique, not to be the millionth copy of the same outfit in a map.
I’m hoping this is the right thread to post on, but I’ve been trying to find a teaching guild/group for raids for a little while now and haven’t had much luck on the looking for group tool in game. I’ve had some failed pug runs and watched videos to have a basic idea of the bosses, but now I’m at the point where I actually need to get inside the raid and run it.
Does anyone know of any guilds willing to teach the wings to players?
+1 to this as a hardcore Kurz defender in gw1. Pretty please!
I would love to see Liadri come back. The first time round, like Malediktus, I was just too bad at it. I really want the chance to try again for her mini and that sweet title ^.^
+1 to that. I completely agree.
Simple white tunic skin for all races/classes. More pants. Less trench coats. Less bulky/long skirts. The only short skirt option I’m aware of is the starter apprentice skirt posted below, and it’s somewhat hideous.
Skins, not outfits.
+1 to this loot problem. My guild and I have been thinking this for months.
+1 to sliders, but I doubt they’ll ever happen. It’s far too late now Q.Q
They were worth progressively more due to the fact that far fewer players were in the pool of “fifth year birthday”, etc., which spiked the price (http://buildwars.forumotion.com/t411-gw1-price-list-minipets-and-everlasting-tonics). You might be right about the dye in gw2, but frankly those 500-1,000g dye don’t really excite me when I can hardly see a difference between half of them. Some people might like it, which is great, but for those that don’t, it would be nice to see different ideas incorporated. GW1 birthday presents were popular, and the excitement of not knowing exactly what you’d get was half the fun. Yet another experience booster to Level 20/40 is frankly underwhelming.
No, but the quartz crystal node does give those quartz crystals, which are essential for precursor crafting and a lot of armor insignia (celestial, etc.) My point was just that (as the OP stated), it would be nice if it would rely on map currency rather than gold and that Roundabout’s statement that it was dirt cheap isn’t necessarily true for all players.
They wouldn’t be free, when they still cost 10k unbound magic. Furthermore, 50g is not “dirt cheap” for all players – it might be for you, which is great, but for others it presents more of a frustrating problem, thus the reason for starting this thread.
Yeah, we need the lion. It’s been bothering me ever since the remake as well. (Don’t get me wrong, I do like the architecture of the reconstruction, I just was expecting the lion to be even bigger and better than before, and there was just … nothing.)
I would be incredibly more okay with outfits if they would break them down into pieces for mixing and matching. Really, that’s all I care about. And if they won’t do that, I’ll hop back onto my Give-Us-More-Armor-Skins train.
+1 to this. I definitely want a spear, and I’d love it if it was for all base professions.
This year I did the same thing I did the other 3 years, I trashed it all because as usual it was all useless trash. I miss the GW 1 birthday gifts were it really felt like rewards.
What made the GW1 gifts feel more like a reward?
It was always a mini pet or a tonic, every single year.
Those minis and tonics were from a random pool of minis/tonics for that year, with each year worth progressively more. It was fun having that as a surprise, for one. These could then be sold to other players for some bank or kept on the toon that earned it to have a cool and rare mini others saw. Getting eight mini Queen Jennahs in GW2 that only needed to be account bound once was incredibly underwhelming as a first year present. I couldn’t even put the stupid thing up one the broker, so I just trashed seven of them. I would love if they would incorporate the mini rewards in for future birthdays. I cared about getting them. I don’t care about getting another Experience Scroll that would boost a character to Level 20 or 40 … all of mine are already 80 after four years.
I don’t understand why they only have one modeler and he/she is dedicated to blacklion weapon sets. Hire a-freaking-nother.
If this is true, that is so frustrating. And I’d like to say again that I wouldn’t even need all the armor sets to be released at the same time for every race/gender. I just want the armor haha – if they released one set on Charr one week, the same set on Sylvari two weeks later, etc. that would be fine. Their whole excuse for taking armor skins out of the gemstore was that they would incorporate their release straight into the game, and yet since the release of HoT nearly a year ago, all that I can think of are three new sets.
The only ones I’m aware of are:
- Carapace
- (Luminescent) – which I wouldn’t consider a separate set, seeing as it is literally just a glowing recolor of carapace
- Bladed
- Leystone
So I think the set up works. If you don’t think they are worth it you can just run past like most I see do.
To some extent. Particularly in HoT, it becomes significantly more difficult to just run on by. Some professions are easier to avoid mobs with than others, but when you are forced to fight a mob and it’s an annoyingly difficult one, it would be nice to see something come out of it – other than a pittance of XP and a porous bone ([&AgFLTAAA]).
I’d be all for implementing a change that would make mobs in each map (not just fractals) have a chance of dropping something shiny for players. That, or just more XP.
@Snowskau – I love those drawings! Any of those would be great in game – let’s hope ANet takes a peek
Elite Sunspear armor.
Vabbi armor.
Could possibly redux Fissure of Woe armor.
Mmm I loved and worked hard for all of these skins in gw1. Elite Kurzick on my mesmer was hands down my favorite armor of all time (that vabbian was a suuuper close second though haha). I’d love to see them again in gw2, but I’d like to see them as skins. I’m afraid ANet is only ever going to release these as outfits in the gemstore, as they’ve been doing with Gwen’s attire and the elite monk woven armor.
Some above the knee skirts for female heavies, minus all the ridiculous bulk they like to add on. Sometimes I just want a more feminine looking toon, despite her being a warrior/rev/guardian
Simpler armor as well – like a white blouse or just leather pants for female characters. Males as well, but female light armors are lacking some solid pants options at the moment. I also feel like female mediums need more options, since most shirts come with another (wait for it) trench-like-coat to drape over the butt. It got old after the first thirty.
Also, I want to make it clear that I’m asking for armor not outfits =)
And again, guild capes would be lovely.
some new armor skins would be nice – I’m guessing we’ll just be getting another costume though, in which case I would like to suggest this gem from GW1:
+1 to Donari on this. Especially on the part about some more physical-looking staffs being needed. Other than Bo, there’s not much out there for daredevils -__-
Oh my gosh I actually forgot about my norn tattoos, and I have a norn with them
+1 again to that need for more skin
Also for sylvari, they have that sweet glow, which is almost never seen due to all our bulky armor
You’re probably right regarding a racial ability that would influence quickness, etc. (so some of my suggestions are probably off), but I disagree that a racial perk like gathering herbs/ore or running faster would end up being in the meta. I’ve seen other games make use of passive racial skills like this with no issue.
I agree they shouldn’t be part of the meta – but I think there is an inherent problem with, as you said, racial skills being underwhelming. No one can get away with using them in game. Because of that, the races don’t feel very different, and I’d like to see that change, and have more of the character creation decisions matter in game.
I’m just throwing out ideas at the moment and trying to come up with racial abilities that wouldn’t be part of the utility/weapon build and instead already present.
For example, the human god that blessed your character at birth, or the invention your asura was working on – that would be cool to see somehow incorporated into the game, rather than hidden away as a boring and personal story quest you forget about the second you complete it.
I’m reposting a comment I’d put on a thread regarding the blandness of humans here, because I’d like to have a discussion regarding the impact of a toon’s race in game! Let me know your thoughts – I have some suggestions regarding how ANet could try to make races more meaningful.
I’d love to see the choice of one’s in-game race actually matter, and not just be limited to some crappy race skills ANet was so afraid of disrupting the balance with that no one uses them (due to said crappiness).
To mention a few race ideas gw2 could make use of:
- Norn: Movement buff lasting maybe 5 minutes with a 7 minute cooldown. This would be due to their size (giants), making complete sense for them to move faster than other, significantly smaller races. Increased resistance to knockdowns, etc. Again, they’re giants – it should be harder to cc them. This would have a more significant cd (maybe an hour).
- Human: Increased endurance regeneration. All I can really think of when I think “human” is resiliency, etc. as mentioned in other posts on this thread. It might be cool to give humans increased endurance regen based off of this. Reduced damage received when under a certain health percentage (maybe 10%?). This would have a longer cd once activated, but would tie in to human resiliency again.
- Sylvari: Casting speed buff (I guess similar to quickness) for magical spells/mantras, etc. This would only affect the individual player, and make sense due to the nature of sylvari’s attunement with magic and the Dream. I’m not sure what an appropriate cd on this would be to prevent overbalancing. Health restoration, similar to the mistlock singularity in fractals, but for straight PvE. It would have a 1-2 hr cd as well. Increased gathering speed of plants – speaks for itself.
- Asura: Decreased falling damage – Asura are the smallest of all the races, so I think they should take significantly less damage from falls based off of this size difference and their (assumed) increased agility. Increased crafting speed – based off of asura inventing, etc.
- Charr: Increased combat speed, based off of the charr affinity for war and their military government structure and training. Have to be careful to prevent overbalance, but I think it could be cool to treat it similar to the current “quickness” buff in game. It could have a longer cd on it since it’s racial, and would only affect weapon skills, not utility ones. Increased ore gathering speed. When I think of charr, I think of big, heavy metal weapons, so I think this would also make sense.
I think all of these suggested skills would be a mixture of passive or active powers. Passive would be continuous and uncontrolled by the player (like node gathering), while I think it would be important to add the active skills onto the F1, F2 toolbar and not the utility tool bar. This way, players could still make proper use of builds in game, without having to choose between “Call Owl” ([&BmMwAAA=]) or “Save Yourselves” ([&Bn0jAAA=]).
Oh and one last idea: Maybe a free tele to respective race capitals
I’d love to see more human god activity. It could even tie in as a racial skill, based off of which human god you chose on your character creation screen which, you know, they’ve never done anything with…
Grenth blessed you at birth? You can make use of our “Call on Grenth” racial skill now and freeze everyone around you for 1-2 seconds! Oh, was it actually Lyssa? Confound them!
I’d love it.
@Nana, I agree with everything you said, but with a slight change to the use of GW1 armor “returning to GW2”.
I want it as armor, not a flipping outfit. Outfits ruin the whole concept of individualization in game. I’m not looking to rehash the outfit vs. armor skin fight – people love them, people hate them – but I don’t want ANet to mistake this thread as a request for more outfits
At the end of the day, I think including more old gw1 armor skins (as armor skins!!) in gw2 would help bring some cohesion between the old games, and for old players, make Tyria feel more familiar.
Also, releasing armor classes separately is a great idea. +1 to it.
It seems that humans are good at agriculture and architecture, but they don’t have any trait that sticks out and Arena Net portraits them as yet another typical Human race who only perseveres in face of struggles and barely hangs in there. They got blad and boring, the lore is lack luster and in Guild Wars 2, it feels like Sylvari stole the show on numerous occasions.
/Discuss ?
I completely agree here. It’s sad too, because most of my toons are humans. I’ve felt for a long time that ANet dropped the ball on the races. Sylvari stole the show far too quickly, and all the others got forgotten (particularly humans).
I’d love to see the choice of one’s in-game race actually matter, and not just be limited to some crappy race skills ANet was so afraid of disrupting the balance with that no one uses them due to said crappiness. I only dabbled in Tera for a bit, but I loved their means of approaching race in game. Particular races had random buffs, like a Castanic having a faster gathering speed on ore nodes, or another race having a slightly faster movement speed. If gw2 could draw some inspiration from ideas like this, I feel it could really give the races a flavor of their own and, in turn, give humans something that would make them stand out from the others.
To mention a few race ideas gw2 could make use of:

I appreciate ANet’s attempt to include more new, in-game armor content with the release of HoT, but – unfortunately – I’ve been a little less than blown away
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I think it might be fun to post some ideas of armors we’d love to see released in game!
I, for one, would love to see some of the following:
- Medium Human Male armor that doesn’t include a trenchcoat – so far the only one I’m aware of is the Glorious skin, I’d like to see more
- Heavy Female armor that makes use of shorter skirts, and not the ankle-length stuff or the far too-prevalent bulky pants we currently have – something more along the lines of Aion (also under the ncsoft umbrella) for a more feminine touch… see the picture below
- Tattoo/rune armor for light/medium professions, similar to the Scar Pattern Necro armor from GW1, or the Labrynthine Monk armor from GW1 (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Elite_Scar_Pattern_armor_f.jpg, https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Monk_Labyrinthine_armor_m.jpg)
Any other ideas for armor you guys would love to wear and see?
That’s the thing, I would even pay for armor skins in the store. They were taken out by player request because players felt it would be better to earn them in game. I do agree that it’s better to earn them than buy them with real world money, but that’s beside the point. To my understanding, the OP was saying they want ANet to put some of the time they spend making outfits into making the armor skins players were promised. My addition was that I’d like to see some more variation in the type of skins we are getting.
I really like the light carapace set on my ele, for instance, but I still feel like female heavy is sorely lacking. I’d like to see less pant and bulky skirt combos, and some more feminine alternatives – but I could be alone ^.^
If outfits didn’t make Anet money, they wouldn’t make them available. Incidently, this is why they don’t make armorsets anymore.
I don’t know where the exact link is, but they stopped making armor sets in the gemstore because players were requesting them to be released in game. That being said, I’m a little let-down by the armors they have been releasing in game (very slowly, btw). I’d like to see some more variation in the female heavy armor.
Maybe something like this?
I realize it’s from Aion and the design concepts are different, but I really loved how my cleric in chain armor could find a balance between ghastly metal pants/clunky ankle length skirts. I also refuse to buy into any arguments about trying to maintain the dignity of a heavy class armor’s appearance – they ruined that with outfits.
Yeah seriously. It’s probably too much to hope for the Kurz/Lux style pvp again (I think I remember reading on the wiki that those factions are gone now), but I would love to at least have the continent!
Elona is also a must for me. I’d love to see how they could make use of Palawa Joko. I too am getting tired of all this living story content revolving around sylvari.
Anet has likely been aware that build templates are missing since before launch, and is very much aware of how much the player base wants them. There is no need to bump this thread.
Hopefully they are aware, but until they make an official announcement saying save/load build templates are coming, I’m going to keep rehashing and bumping this to make sure they know :P
I’m fine with the gs, but I think scythe would be a sweet addition to the game. I absolutely loved it on the dervish in GW1, and I really miss it (and the land-wielding spear) now.
A skin that looks like a scythe will not suffice. I want that beautiful sweeping motion back.
I think laurels for gems would be awesome, and give me something to spend my laurels on.
Honestly, even just a set of three voices for each gender and race would be amazing. I get that they’d have to hire voice actors to read over and record all the lines all over again, but really, I think it would be worth it to them in the long run. I know I’d happily toss all my gems at them just to have the option of a new voice and new phrases, rather than the “I’m wilting” sylvari male, or my dying cow Norn female.
Yeah, I’ve been wanting this since Day 1. It’s a huge feature missing from the game.
Yeah honestly, I’m a little bothered by gw1 content in the gemstore. I’m probably alone, but I worked mad hard to unlock the elite armor skins, weapons, etc. back in that game. Seeing the storm bow and my elite woven monk armor up for grabs for anyone willing to spend $10 cash was a little disheartening. I do love the nostalgia, but I’d like it more if was an in-game reward for earning something comparable in gw2.
Or even if those awesome gw1 skins were released in the Hall of Monuments rewards to gw1 players who purchased gw2. But I’m getting off topic.
At the end of the day, I don’t care how long it takes or doesn’t take for ANet to make an outfit vs some fresh armor skins. I’m just frustrated with how stale the armor skins in game have become. For a game that is based off a fantastic predecessor, I’d like to see more creativity in what is being offered. I loved the armor in gw1. There was variability for looks contained within each profession. I don’t see that in gw2, and I’d really like to.
ANet can keep making outfits if they want. I just want to see them match that pace with armor skins in game. After all, that was why they stopped releasing armor skins in the gemstore, allegedly.
That’s a really cool idea, and would be super fun for small guilds (I have a small one myself that we carried over from GW1, and it’s always empty), but I feel like that’s not something they’ll think about for a long time.
If they just treated the alts like NPCs and had them sit stagnantly in place at a table or something it might not be too complicated, but I feel like they won’t ever do it because it would get crowded so fast in bigger guilds’ halls.
There’s three underwater weapons, that can’t be used at land. They already have a long list of completed art assets, and adapting them for land would take less work than making new weapon types from scratch.
These are:
- Spear: Could be adapted for main-hand and off-hand usage.
- Harpoon gun: Doesn’t make a lot of sense at land, but some of the simplest existing skins, as well as future skins, could be adapted to depict crossbows instead.
- Trident: With the spear being one-handed, the trident would remain relevant as a two-handed longspear of sorts.
I’ve been wanting a spear-wielding warrior/guardian on land ever since elite specs were announced.
A heavy wielding a terrestrial spear in one hand and an awesome shield in the other and call it Phalanx. I would die of happiness, and it would finally make use of the spear and other aquatic joke legendaries that actually do have some sweet skins.
Also, I’m completely on board with new weps on the whole – a great axe would be amazing – but I’ll settle for possibly cycling some of those aquatics to land first.
New voice packs. Please, dear God.
So sick of my female norn sounding like a dying cow every time she gets knocked down.
Loved it in GW1. Would love it even more in GW2, particularly with the necessity for very different builds between Raids, general PVE, and players just wanting to customize for fun.
Being able to ping your build for others to see, load, or save (as well as for yourself) would be amazing.
Thoughts?
