I had to contact Support today, as I was unable to unlink my mobile authenticator from my account via the account recovery service.
From the moment of receiving the confirmation e-mail it took exactly 13 (thirteen) minutes for ArenaNet Support to solve my problem and send an e-mail with the good news.
I’d like to thank you for the faultlessly professional way of handling my issue, especially on Christmas Day. I do a nightsift today as well
Merry Christmas everyone, and give it up for the Support team!
Well, ArenaNet should introduce a global filter for the word ‘gold’ and automatically replace it with ‘4-slot leather bag’. Imagine the spam messages after that
Well, I have a hardware solution for that: my Mad Catz MMO 7 gaming mouse. Both mouse buttons can be toggled on it. It’s the best mouse I’ve ever had, but I admit I rarely use the toggle function, because you have to activate a little switch to enable it.

Edit: the effect is the same as in Danikat’s solution. however.
Same here, I deleted a character a couple of weeks ago but put the Molten Pick in the bank, just in case there will be a change of policy on the gathering tools.
It never occurred to me that I will have to carry the tool to an NPC, I assumed it would be a global change.
Not that I’m complaining, this change is brilliant, actually I’m quite happy with my other two account bound picks.
Frankly, it’s a bit rich to compare Guild Wars 2 to Diablo 3. Please…
You have to select each value: the skin, the stats, and the additional effect – the sigil – at the transmutation screen.

I thought the same, that’s why I omitted the character’s name at the first place. But who am I to guess forum rules?
Post edited! Thank you.
I’ve seen a player today with a name referring to the Twin Towers (direct reference, not hinting). His guild name was a very direct reference to 9/11.
What is your opinion: is this name plain offensive or just incredibly tasteless?
I was this close to report the player right there and then, but I saw that he’s having a birthday buff on his character, clearly indicating that he had gotten away with this name for a year. Honestly, I’m on the fence. While I find this name unbelievably primitive, especially in a fantasy game, it is not my wish to punish people for their unrefined taste, simply because they won’t learn. So I can look the other way, question is, should we?

For me, the trinity is an atrocious, rigid, ridiculously simplistic mechanism masking a terrible void behind it. It’s for lazy and unimaginative people, who wants a predictable experience. I’m glad I only played one MMO based on it.
I see it this way: human beings are inherently drawn towards change through time. This is how we see the world. From this point of view, a story or a sense of progression is basically the same. To put it simply, we either want a strong story or well-defined progression. In an MMO, the game is way too broad in scope to deliver a linear, engaging story, we have other games for that. The story in this case is replaced by progression. I, for one, love levelling, because it is the mechanism behind my personal progression through the game, which helps me to measure my progression and identify my goals. I love the journey, and I like my signposts as well.
Compare an MMO to a sandbox game, say, GTA, or Red Dead Redemption. My personal problem with these games that the only thing captivates me is the story. As soon as I finish the story, there’s little to keep me there just to linger around. I can finish my personal challenges, complete achievements indeed, but that’s the same in every game. That’s why other sandbox games with levelling (skill trees, unlocks, etc.) are far more exciting in my eyes. But this is my personal preference of course.
On the other hand levelling can be seen as a segregating mechanism in the light of the Living Story updates. That is conflicting, sure. I recently decided to opt out from doing the LS, because I can’t concentrate on my alts’ progression, exploration. For me, the LS can be immersion breaking, but I reckon its true purpose is to provide a kind of an exciting endgame for 80’s.
Sorry, OP, but I have to agree with voidwater and Ema. Today I witnessed the worst type of behaviour possible in an MMO in Kessex Hills displayed by entitled players who think they can dictate how others choose to play this game. It is completely baffling to see the totally uncontrolled anger and hatred towards fellow players. So, contempt from me as well for these little tyrants, and also, reports for verbal abuse.
I got curious after reading this topic, so I made a quick calculation. Turns out I spent roughly £100 since last September – that is actually less than what I would have paid for a monthly subscription based game.
You, Sir, are a gentleman.
It’s still true. The fee applies only for the transfer of characters.
I can relate to your dilemma, I tried every race for a Guardian. There are a whole lot of options to consider, but for RP purposes I think both Sobat’s and Husky’s suggestions are sound. Way I see it, you should try a human noble character first, with the dead sister storyline, to fully experience the constant threat of the centaur war – at least for me that’s a very important part of playing a human.
But you definitely want to try a Sylvari at one point. I just got into them very recently, it took me a year to seriously consider to play a walking plant. Somehow their aesthetics put me off before, but now I’m having a blast. And as someone stated on these forums – the Sylvari storyline is the most closely related to the main story. They are the saviors of Tyria, it seems.
The forum software filters any word which could be perceived as offensive and replaces it with “kitten”.
Therefore pretty much everyone uses the word “kitten” as a substitute for any swearword.
It definitely uses your cash at the TP! Happened to me several times.
You probably lack the necessary amount of coin on that particular character: there’s a sales tax to pay.
I do them every day. They are really easy, sometimes I can complete them in 30 minutes, depending on the requirements. Although sometimes I feel forced to do them, it is really me who wants the achievement, so it’s a matter of decision for me.
Krosslite’s points are absolutely valid. I recently changed servers, hoping for a better community, because on my server everyone was constantly focusing on a couple of “big” events. For the loot of course (sigh). Just the other day I found the Ogre Wars event chain in Fields of Ruin. The whole area is brilliant, but there was literally no-one there. I met a fellow player, but the two of us couldn’t finish the timed events, we were too few. Still, it was an epic fight, completely immersive, but it made me sad, knowing that it was only the two of us on a whole map, peak time.
Reminded me of Ray Bradbury’s short story, There will come soft rains.
I completely agree with the OP. The idea is really respectable.
Maybe it’s my age, or the fact that I’m relatively new to MMOs, but I honestly struggle to grasp the widespread obsession with “endgame”. First and foremost, I enjoy playing this game, and I don’t want to start to play a different game when I hit level 80. If I got bored, I will play something else. Second, we have a huge, beautiful, wittily crafted world out there. I want to be in this world. Why would I want to crawl into a dungeon and repeat it twenty times per day? I want to have fun, I want immersion, that’s why I play games. Repetition kills immersion.
Dreamy Abaddon plays with an Xbox controller, all professions. He has videos on YouTube, also posts in this forum, check the Players Helping Players section. Sadly, he haven’t disclosed his controller setup, but I’m intrigued.

I have to agree here. As much as I like crafting and the crafting system, it is increasingly tedious to find a recipe as the list of craftable items grows. It’s all fine at the beginning, the colour sytem helps, but… I really wish there were separate tabs for refinement items. I also wish that the ingredients were grouped by the type of the end product, at least in case of armors and weapons. (e.g. all type of sword hilts under “swords”).
Hi Dreamy,
Would you be so kind to share your controller setup with us? I’ve been thinking about giving the controller a try myself.
I searched this forum if this issue has been reported yet, but found no sign of it.
I was doing the daily, aiming for the Skill Point Accumulator achievement, which requires 3 skill points to be gained. I’ve already collected a skill point through a skill challenge. Then I levelled up, and the achievement automatically completed itself, even though I obviously gained one skill point only by levelling.
I’m not completely sure if it happened because I had unspent skill points, but I’m pretty sure it’s not intended to work like this.
A puffin, a.k.a lundi in Iceland. Pretty please…
A fox would be fantastic, let me second that!
Going to war without Logan Thackery is like going to war without an Accordion. All you leave behind is a lot of noisy baggage.
This left me in stitches. Seriously, it cracks me up each time it comes to mind. Bloody brilliant
I’m 39 and GW2 is the pinnacle of game design for me.
Human female warrior. Since I started to wear 2nd tier heavy (iron-made) armor, whenever leggings (pants) are equipped, my character is cut in half at the waistline. It is caused by the leggings – if they’re removed, the naked body shows correctly. I experimented a lot on this. My current leggings piece in question is a Ravaging Scale Leggings of the Centaur, but it happens with every single piece of iron leggings, custom-made or looted.
I don’t see the necessity for the why it’s fun part, of course it’s fun!
I’ve had many instances of it happening, one which was rather strange, I afk’d in LA one time on a pedestal around the fountain. I was looking quite dapper in my pink tophat and town clothes. And when I came back from afk there was 3 people dancing around me with no clothes on!
A very interesting conversation took place.
Aren’t you a big Charr by the way? If you are, then I knelt before your pink awesomeness on a pedestal in Divinity Reach once…
By JunkyardWolf:
“First off, the whole concept of a never-ending “endgame” is just absurd in the context of an RPG, regardless whether it’s MMO or single-player.”
“GW2 is not a game where you’re meant to play the same character at the level cap for years on end. It’s a game to explore and experience, to pick up or put down at your whim, where you’re not pressured or even expected (though you can if you like) to dump days-long marathon sessions into it.”
This. ^
Very useful info, thanks!
By the way, I’m currently re-reading Ender’s Game, and no, I think it’s just a coincidence.
I’m pretty sure there’s no way to change the mouse button setup. Funnily enough, I like the controls, they’re surprisingly logical and easy – compared to SWTOR, for example – but I’ve also changed the strafing buttons myself. About holding the right mouse button: you could consider buying a special mouse. I have a Cyborg Rat 7 MMO, and you can switch the mouse buttons to be on or off constantly without the need of holding them. I don’t really use the feature, as it requires pressing an extra button, but it’s very useful nevertheless, not to mention the countless programmable features of the above mentioned rodent.
Just wanted to say that I agree with the OP’s every single word. Same experience here. I’ve never played anything like this.
Just the fact that someone can compare this peace of marvel, this piece of art to some browser game made me shiver.
Don’t push it.
Let me have a spear/shield combination… and I’ll have everything I wanted.
Except… let my warrior wield a dagger or a rapier off-hand, mainly for blocking, duelist-style. That would be awesome.

If your goal was to get achievements without achieving them, no you will never reach it.

Fantastic post, spot on. Completely agreed.
In my opinion this wave of complaints about “end game” are coming mostly from the hard-core “gotta-max-level-asap” crowd who rushed through a game that wasn’t designed to be rushed through.
It’s like opening the box to Monopoly, picking the race car, stacking all the money and properties in front of you and placing hotels all over the place and then complaining that the game is completely lacking in substance.
Pretty much this. The game is meant to scale horizontally not vertically (gear treadmill) and those that are accustomed to the typical MMO games just realized this game is not like that. Most of those players didn’t realize that was the whole philosophy and don’t know “what to do” at end game. It’s actually kind of funny.
Its hard to break that old raiding gear tier mentality for a lot of people I guess.
These. Maybe I’m the minority here, but I don’t want to reach level 80 just yet. I want to PLAY this wonderful game. I want to explore, progress, or just be there. And when I reach level 80 eventually, I will start with a new character, new race, new profession. And I can do that several times in a lot of combinations, which is fantastic. All this hate talk and complaining lately about endgame and raids and gear leaves me a bit baffled. Why play this game then, if you don’t like a fresh, independent, new, non-repetitive approach?
According to my experience, only those materials will show on the discovery panel which can be used to discover new recipes at your skill level. Mats for recipes already learnt won’t be included.
Very good point, my friend!
Well, I tried all the races at first, and managed to create an astonishingly attractive female. Did not play her, however. I simply can’t get over the fact that a wooden creature has teats. :-P I know, I know, it’s a fantasy game. Probably later.
This game has the most beautiful UI ever, map included. It’s flawless IMHO.
And I second Neoheart’s opinion about SWTOR.
I found this out today: if you hold the right mouse button (as for turning), you can actually move by holding the left button as well.
I like your reasoning, Izziee. Personally I love the heart quests, finally something different from the mainstream. Not to mention most of them are brilliant. Playing snowball with kids? Bodychecking rabbits? Feeding bear cubs? Playing with leopards? What’s not to like?
There’s a reason I play this game: it’s independent, innovative and fun. Some people just have to whine I guess.
Finally I understand the awful number of kittens around here. This is brilliant…
I want a rabbit!
