On my ele when a ranger’s pet chases me across the map sometimes I just stand and autoattack it. The pet ends up killing me faster than I can kill it. Seems a bit off to me.

Anyway rolling a ranger right now, snagged the name “Rangers With Candy”.

The mentally unstable comment was uncalled for and I apologize. It was largely in reference to posts that I was getting in my burst combo threads like this one

Stop posting these frakking videos that show nothing but your burst combo. Show us you playing that spec successfully in a tournament and we might get talking.

Otherwise you’re just some bimbo who tries his best to get ele nerfed even frakking more with some frakked up 3 second video.

I got a lot of positive feedback from these videos but a few people, this individual in particular, were repeatedly posting obscenities and accusing me of having secret agendas to get eles nerfed. I found it mildly disturbing to say the least. If anyone is interested it was a video like this one.

Ele’s can almost have regeration and protection up almost all the time now with this patch

Ele’s could always maintain high/100% protection uptime. The nov. 15 patch bugged out one of our leap finishers which took away a large chunk of d/d ele’s protection. Now that it’s fixed it’s back to the way it’s been since release. There is currently a bug that was introduced with today’s patch that is granting a ridiculously high amount of protection, but I assume it will be hotfixed in a day.

This should of been posted in the bug forums as it is a bug. The OP is trying to use this for his personal agenda which is shameful. If you know it is a bug report it, don’t try to create an ele hate thread while doing it.

I made this thread before I even realized there was a bug, don’t hold me responsible for anet’s mistake. I put it in the bug forum just now.

What is my personal agenda? Prior to Nov. 15 I used this build exclusively, why would I want it nerfed? I’ve been patiently waiting for them to fix the leap finisher and have posted multiple times in the bug and ele subforums asking for that.

When activating these traits with magnetic grasp and a fire field the boon durations they give are ridiculously long. For protection fury and swiftness the new durations are about 26, 45, and 45 respectively instead of 3, 5, and 5. This is clearly overpowered, ripe for abuse and needs to be fixed asap.

I made this thread right after I read the patch notes, I hadn’t actually logged in yet. I made that video when I realized there was an obvious bug that has nothing to do with the original 100% uptime builds I’ve been using for months.

I made the video to report this bug so that it can be fixed. I won’t even be using this build until that bug is fixed.

Your first “visitors” are well known thief players who have been whining about the ele for months, your actions speak louder than your mouth, you’re just encouraging these people with their little crusade and based on what?
An ele who just blow off all of his defensive skills to obtain a single effect?
Do you even know that you need a target for magnetic grasp?

If you don’t want to use any of the techniques I’ve given then that is fine. I’m not the first person to use magnetic grasp as a leap finisher in tandem with aura traits, but you are certainly the first person to argue against its effectiveness. Lots of people were upset when it became bugged and not for the aura, but because of the boons it gives.

The bulk of the protection duration comes from ring of fire + magnetic grasp combo, which gives 13.2 seconds of protection and can be used every 15 seconds. Using shocking aura and frost aura merely fill in the gaps and don’t necessarily need to be used everytime they are off cooldown. The argument that this isn’t effective because it requires a target and can be dodged is asinine as you could say the same about almost every ability in the game. You are clearly being adversarial and have some paranoid fantasy where any time someone promotes the strengths of elementalist you fear the devs plotting to nerf them.

Yes it works and it’s also pretty easy to do. 40+seconds of protection and 40+ of regeneration. Woho.

EDIT: How broken is that, seriously.

The fire field + magnetic grasp boon duration is bugged out like crazy now giving 26 base duration protection (instead of 3 seconds) and 45 seconds of swift+fury (instead of 5).

I always thought it was a shame that D/D ele became (sort of) fotm right when they bugged out magnetic grasp which allowed for 100% protection uptime builds. Well now it’s fixed and I think D/D will be increasingly fotm. Here’s the basic build setup (copy/paste link), it works for glass cannoning to bunkering.

Here’s a little math to show the uptime percentage. 12 seconds is used as the realistic amount of time to swap in and out of earth attune.

Earth attune 8.25/12
Shocking aura 4.95/25
Frost aura 4.95/40
Ring of fire + magnetic grasp 4.95/15

Divide protection duration by its source’s cooldown and add up to get 1.33925. Since the value is greater than 1 you can stack increasingly higher durations of protection as long as you use each source when it’s off cooldown.

As of this morning, the fire aura from fire field + D3 does not trigger on-aura traits.

It does it is just really buggy. It might take 20 tries but it will eventually trigger.

Yeah it was in the mists. I’m also using 20 30 0 0 20 and I’m getting around 2.5k to 3.5k on a heavy target golem without fury.

This, I just logged on and did a 4k arc lightning channel on my standard build than a 6k on a full glass build. Ele damage is fine, it’s just that everyone wants to run a full bunker spec and still dish out glass cannon damage.

You don’t use ride the lightning, you use lightning flash (utility spell). The combo is …

-Earthquake
-Lightning Flash mid cast

Here are some numbers I’ve seen.

Fire grab:
w/ grounded 13.8k (spvp on a thief)
w/ grounded + bolt to the heart 16k (spvp on a theif)
w/ grounded + bolt to the heart + vulnerability 18k (light taget golem)

Churning Earth:

standard: 10-12k (target golem/glass cannons)
w/ bolt to the heart 15k (target golem)
w/ bolt to the heart plus vulnerability 17.5k (target golem)
w/ bolt + vulnerability + grounded … never got this but I assume it could reach over 20k. It is difficult to set up grounded for churning earth.

The build that produced those numbers isn’t really practical.

Energy and battle share a cooldown, so if you are trying to use both at the same time that would be a problem. If you are only using one then idk.

Lingering elements – this allows you to be in multiple attunes at a time. With this you can take advantage of specific element attune buffs like +10% damage while attuned to <insert element>. You can go d/d with a build like this (not a serious build here) and have 10/20/30% more damage at some points in combat.

Piercing shards – I believe this is more of a conjurer build. Weak spot gives you vulnerability for piercing shards, while your damage comes from your conjure.

You’d think it would work that way but it doesn’t. Lingering elements currently only works with the 5 point adept traits (except earth which is bugged). I’ve tested this with steady weapons.

Grounded: Excellent (for D/D). For a D/D burst build, this skill is probably a must. D/D’s almost always open with a KD (updraft), so their initial big burst will benefit from this, and 20% increased damage is no joke.

Updraft is technically a launch/blowout and doesn’t benefit from grounded.

This may be a coincidence, but if it isn’t I am genuinely impressed by the 4 day turnaround time.

Although they may be good ideas, I think you need realize that anet isn’t going to be fundamentally altering the entire trait line at this point. I think the best we can hope for is lingering elements actually working with the attunement specific traits and even that is a long shot.

Edit: I’m pretty sure he just did a jumping dodge roll. It says interrupt though which got me confused.

Ok, Im pretty sure he just evaded the updraft by rolling backwards, you can see the white text when you casted it.

It says evaded over my character because updraft has built in evasion and It evaded his attacks. The interrupt text is over his character which would imply that the updraft had landed (although it appears to have been dodged).

So I was fighting this ele in spvp and he uses arcane shield, then he uses lightning flash, then he uses a stun breaker on my updraft that cancels it faster than I’ve ever seen before. He clearly didn’t use armor of earth or mist form so I have to assume it was cleansing fire. The thing is cleansing fire has two distinct animations and a accompanying sound which I did not observe. I use cleansing fire in the video and you can see the animation and hear it. Is there some sort of trick to breaking blowouts? If there is I’d like to know because I thought you had to wait until your character stopped moving. I’m guessing he just used it really fast and it made the animation not show.

Yes I realize I popped mist form too early. Also, if only lightning flash had hit and earthquake crit it would of been an instant gib.

Uh what is this? Claiming you used updraft then using it again seconds later in the fight? Maybe it didn’t go off the first time due to lag or something?

I use updraft only once at 22 seconds in, I thought it landed which is why it shows the interrupt text. Idk maybe he just dodged it, but then why would it say interrupt?

It’s the nametags that piss me off. Why the kitten are guild tags on people’s minions. We should be able to disable nametages on ai, excluding of course mesmer clones.

opinions from top players:
- bunker eles and ele down state needs nerf
- aoe dmg too high
- they play every day 8 hours a day lol

-Ele attunement protection duration reduced from 5 to 3 seconds, evasive arcana heal removed. Keep it as a condition removal only or change it to a 1-2 second aoe chill.
-Ele downstate vapor form no longer resets health
-Have a game mode not centered around standing in little circles

Sounds good on paper, but how do you balance it with other classes? You know how every trait line has a weapon or two tied to it for other classes…how do you make the ele equivalent more versatile without ultimately making it superior?

Because other classes’ weapon traits do more than just reduce the cooldowns.

Warrior greatsword trait, reduced cooldowns and might on crit.

Engineer trait works for multiple weapons.

etc.

Currently we have the most worthless cooldown reduction traits.

Would this increased recharge rate stack with arcana making a possible attunement cooldown of 7.5 seconds? That could create problems with skills like elemental attunement which can give up to 8.25 seconds of protection.

If they didn’t stack then I wouldn’t even notice a difference as I still need 20 in arcana for renewing stamina, elemental attunement, arcane fury, and lingering elements(assuming it ever works the way one would assume it would, in its current form it’s worthless).

I also have a solution that could be implemented along with yours. Change the traits to “Weapon skills recharge 20% faster while attuned to air”, then make it an attunement bonus that works with lingering elements.

To make these traits worth it you need to spec 15 into Arcana for lingering elements. Traits like Piercing Shards are actually good now that ANet has made them work. In fact, I’d say the most practical spike build for Eles involves something along the lines of 25 Air, 25 Water and 20 arcana D/D with Piercing Shards and this is already very similar to what people are already using. The pigeon hole gets deeper and deeper.

Lingering elements currently only works with adept minor traits (except earth which is bugged).

2. Great idea on making elemental attunement baseline. Perhaps it could only work for self boons though and the actual elemental attunement trait would make them aoe boons. That way they could just rework the current trait instead of replacing it. If necessary we could take a small nerf on the 5 second protection duration to 3 seconds to compensate for how much of a buff this is.

I also feel as though at least 15 points in arcana is mandatory for the attunement recharge rate. This could be fixed by making base attunement recharge rate 12 seconds and each 10 points into arcana reduces that by 1 second.

5. The glass without the cannon mentality is a misconception. We may be too glassy to justify the amount of damage we have, but when specced for it we pump out massive aoe damage.

7. The most obvious solution is to make all + % damage traits work with lingering elementals. This would give us a much needed damage boost to justify how glassy we are. Pyromancer’s puissance should also work with this.

Cooldown reduction traits reduce cooldowns casted WHILE in X attunement(as an attunement bonus). This would mean that if you trait for reduce cooldowns by 20% while in air attunement, you could switch to fire attunement and have 5 seconds from lingering elements to still benefit from the cooldown reduction on all spells cast in that 5 second window.

Also fire grab should just be a base 35 second cooldown.

Possibly change lingering elements so that your past element is always lingering but only allow one lingering element at a time.

Then make lingering elements a 5 point trait by swapping it with arcane fury so this doesn’t further force people into the arcana traitline.

Does anyone know why they stealth nerfed auras that you gain from combos? I was really dissapointed that powerful auras doesn’t activate every time you gain an aura -that just seems wrong to me.

Since the recent patch elemental shielding now gives about an 8 second duration when used with arcane resurrection (was 3 previously). If you have 2 water, 2 monk, and 2 earth runes it’ll give you and the person you rez 13 seconds of protection.

I’ve never personally used arcane resurrection, only tested it. Although it seems like if you are heavily invested into boon duration and aura traits it could be pretty powerful.

Oh one more thing I wanted to add is that it seems like your auras affect ANY allies…not just players.

Yeah, but you can only give out 5 auras max so this is really more of a negative.

To be honest, I’ve been pondering the potential of a staff-aura build using combo fields to create auras. But that mostly depends on wheter your traits proc on those. Say, eruption+frozen ground=frost aura+protection? Could make for an interesting support build…

Auras gained from combos and arcane resurrection don’t benefit from powerful auras.

/s stands for “end sarcasm”? I’m going to assume so until you say otherwise because ele’s really don’t and believe it or not I applaud this guy for bursting like this on his ele.

Here’s a better vid to demonstrate more realistic damage from this combo. It did roughly 17500 damage in 2 seconds with a 11594 fire grab (from above 25% health- no extra 20% dmg). This is using the build I used before I even started using this combo (which I rarely do as its not really worth wasting the utilities).

I realize this is highly off topic and won’t be posting anymore non warrior related material.

The warrior had used frenzy, which is why those numbers were so high. Fire grab does crit for over 10k with most glass cannon builds though.

You’re not supposed to notice that the warrior is taking 50% more damage from his own buff. It’s counter productive to the whiner’s argument.

I agree that frenzy makes those numbers irrelevant (still an interesting fight though IMO). Although the second video from 9 to 11 seconds shows 17490 damage. If earthquake had crit and I had used arcane wave that would be an extra 5k dmg for 22500 dmg in 2 seconds (All AOE as opposed to thieves’ mostly single target). Fire grab hitting at above 25% health (no additional 20% dmg) for 11596 is quite powerful.

I suppose I don’t even really have a point to make with all that info I’m just throwing it out there.
