An idea, how about offhand being part of the auto attack (attack 1)?

Crash.7910

There was already a thread about this. There’s simply too much work required to do something like this and not only is it unnecessary but it would actually make combat more difficult to understand. Below is my response to the last thread.

“The whole idea is that (for most classes) the first 3 skills are specific to your mainhand weapon. If you change the animation it wouldn’t be the same attack. There would then be new animations people need to be able to recognize to see what attacks people are using. If you had a new animation you’d either have to attack with both weapons at exactly the same time or make the animation faster so it fit into the attacks timeframe.

This also would require a tonne of new animations to be made. You’d need to come up with new ones for ever class that can dual wield, every combination they could use AND multiple animations for each part of that slot/attack (eg. thief with sword: Slice, Slash, Crippling Stirike, AND Tactical Strike). That’s just way to much work which only serves to make combat more confusing for the person being attacked."

Apart from those points on a more subjective note, I certainly prefer having separate attacks for my weapons, it makes it feel like my offhand actually has its own function rather than just buffing a stat and making me look different.

Disrespectful Emotes.

I think something like taunt is fine but anything more aggressive than that shouldn’t be added. Also Suggesting that an entire class doesn’t deserve respect cause they don’t really care about your ‘fun’ in a PvP setting is kinda harsh.

What would prevent a server that’s really good from taking the first day of WvW off and letting everything be captured and then coming back on non-peak hours and stealing everything back? In that scenario the game would be rewarding people for not actually playing the game.

Me, I’d like to see them do something like have greater rewards for people playing in smaller groups in an effort to break up the constant zergs but doing so would reward people for not playing with others or would breed a classic mmo environment where you’re competing with people you shouldn’t be.

Travel time is kinda important for WvW.

Also I don’t think you need to be in a 500 man guild to be useful in WvW. My guild is only 18 people and I feel we’ve done quite a bit for our server in WvW. I’m actually quite pleased at the amount of stuff you can do with a group of 5 working together in WvW. During launch we were matched up with a server that owned almost everything and I noticed that most of the people on our server were just running to the one point we still owned to try and protect it, it was a constant tug of war. My friends and I decided to head in the opposite direction and start capturing supply points. After capturing a few points and attacking a few towers our last point that everyone rushed to was no longer under such heavy attack and we were actually able to push back and capture a keep. I think the “learn to play” comment can totally be applied here. If something isn’t working for you try something different.

I think most of these idea would change the way WvW works a bit too much. I get where you’re coming from but at the same time I feel that WvW is such a big thing that some servers are still trying to figure it out.

I also think that being able to capture any point is pretty essential, otherwise everyone is just going to go to the front lines. It’ll pretty much empty the whole map except for the points next to hostile points cause you can’t do anything anywhere else. This seems like it essentially forces a super-zerg all the time. Sometimes it’s tactically a better idea to sneak around the enemy and capture a base behind them and give ’em the old pincer maneuver

I do however completely agree with punishing guilds that lose things they own. Although perhaps it would be better to reward guilds who protect their stuff rather than punish those who don’t. We could have a ladder in each server that shows the name of the guilds. You sort it by point/point type/total points. So you could say look and see which guild has held longview the longest, or who’s defended it the most. you could see which guild has held/capture/protected the most supply camps. You could see which guild has done the most defence in total. Of course these scores are only generated when defending a supply camp/tower/keep/castle that your guild owns.

Yea I was a little disappointed to find out after deleting the hood from my thief that there isn’t another one I can get. despite having played all the BWEs for some reason I thought that the hood/bandana/mask would be a common type of armor one could find. Like how when you beat a story mission and you’re given items to choose from.

I know there are other hoods in the game attached to other armor sets but as far as I’ve seen none of them match the one I started with.

I really like how my warrior base attacks with his axe and then when I need some knockdown I hit ’em with my mace. Making them visually separate makes combat feel more realistic and dare I say, visceral.

Anet has said several times that WvW isn’t intended to be balanced. They have a ranking system to help prevent servers that are really good from dominating poor ones.

as far as the outnumbered thing goes, even if you’re being totally dominated by a server you should still be able to muster enough to capture some supply points. I’m happy to get extra stuff when I’m the underdog.

I for one have a few servers that I would never want to fight for.

to Eibhilin:
It’s interesting that you say it would devalue the story for you. For me I kinda miss how in GW1 I could do the whole story one part after another. I really like the story and I get frustrated when I have someone who needs to be saved and instead I have to go find DEs and do hearts before I can save them. I’m not sure you can really compare it to playing it in godmode, you’re still downleveled so it’s not like it’ll be super easy. Honestly the only thing I personally want to keep is my level. I find because I like to do the story in larger chunks but can’t due to the leveling system I often go off and try to gain like 10 or 12 levels so I can come back to my story and do more of it at one time. I suppose for me I feel often the flow of my personal story is a little too broken up for my liking. Perhaps I should blame Anet for making my personal story too interesting that I don’t want to stop playing it

Crash.7910

I have to agree with the OP here, although I think he could have worded his post better.
I really liked in GW1 how you could just do story mission after story mission without having to level up in between. I’m finding that what I need to do is ignore my personal story completely and get way above it’s level requirement so that I can do a bunch of them in a row. It’s a kinda breaks the flow for me when an important character is captured or in imminent danger but I need to go do some DEs before I can save them.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the DEs, I love exploring, I love jumping puzzles, I love so much about this game. I just liked how in GW1 I had the option to do the story first and THEN go back to all the areas/things I missed and learn about the world. I just expected that I would have that same option in GW2 since it’s whole downleveling system makes all the content relevant all the time. So it would work even better than it did in GW1.

It’s certainly something that I don’t think anyone can do anything about at this point and really I don’t think it’s something that would stop people from playing the game but I still think it’s something worth noting.

While I agree that things would certainly be easier if you could see all the available events I prefer having to hunt for them. I realize that you may have already seen the whole area but you’ve only seen the static environment, I play 8 different characters pretty evenly and each time I end up in the same area there’s something different about the area, if it’s a chained dynamic event, some new dialogue from NPCs or even just a larger group of people raiding a cave. Also for anyone who’s having trouble finding them just try map chat (/m or /map). People in this game are always so helpful you’re sure to get responses from people currently doing events.

Collectible storage for Dyes

Crash.7910

I’ve seen a lot of people discussing the idea of having dyes be account bound and I have a proposal that I think could be a good compromise between both viewpoints.

Make a section of the collectible storage specifically for dyes.

1.)This keeps dyes character bound so we don’t have to worry about any adverse impacts on the economy. I can’t see any reason why this would impact the value of dyes.

2.)Having a collectible section would allow us to preview dyes we don’t have which would allow people to more easily pick a specific dye they want. This also give the player the same feeling of total customization without removing the need to collect or hurting the value of dyes. This also lets players see how each dye will effect each type of material it’s on more easily. I think this would also help some players feel less like they NEED to collect all the dyes. I for one really enjoy playing with the various color options I have and I would love and easy way to preview and set goals. This would work almost identically to the PvP locker where you can preview any armor you want so you know what you think looks best without having to get it first.

3.)There are many of players (me included) that save our dyes because we’re not sure which character we want to put it on. I ended up buying 2 extra bank panes to store all my dyes. As far as I’m aware there are something like 400 dyes I feel that a number like that coupled with the fact that dyes are character bound will put many players in an uncomfortable position. This is certainly not Anets fault but I think there is a pretty easy solution that can benefit everyone.

Oh right the skill! it can’t be used before 30 but it does come unlocked so as soon as you hit 30 you don’t need to spend 10 skill points to use it. I like it although I gather it’s not a terribly good elite skill (I don’t use it but I mostly PvP) but it really shouldn’t be being such an exclusive thing.

I bought the collectors edition. I’m quite pleased with what I got for my money. It should also be noted that in the gem store you can buy a digital deluxe upgrade kit which costs 2000gems, for $20 you only get 1600gems. Also I found the chalice of glory and the tome of influence to be very useful to help me get more gear in PvP and help me get my Guild started into it’s upgrades right when the game started. Being able to generate 1000 influence instantly for a guild is super useful. I believe while you only get the mini rytlock on the first char you make, you can exchange him easily between characters and he has his own slot in the collectibles section of your bank. The ring I’m kind of indifferent about, a little extra bonus for my characters is always welcome and I didn’t decide to take it off till I hit like level 30. The golem does last for 4 days, and you get one for each character you make and it’s super useful I find, I’ve only used him on one of my characters so far and I was so glad to have him whenever I needed him.

I think it was made pretty clear on the site what you would get when you got digital deluxe. I feel it’s worth the extra money and I’m going to be helping my guild mates that don’t have it to get enough money to buy gems so they can upgrade.

I tend to agree that this could be fun. I dunno how easy it would be to implement. Certainly as a kind of minigame it shouldn’t be too hard but having something with the same depth is quite an undertaking.

I myself really dislike the MOBA games but it’s mostly because of the mouse movement thing. I would love to play that kind of game using the awesome pvp system we have here.

New way to Spend Gems and Alt Queueing

Crash.7910

1.) first off, since WvW isn’t a ride with a set time, there’s isn’t a good way to reliably predict when other people will be done and you’ll be let in. Secondly, allowing people to pay to get into WvW is giving way too much of an advantage to people who pay real money. I would think this would also increase the number of high level characters in WvW and lower the number of lower level characters. The High level characters being able to easily afford tickets. On top of that it then will increase the already lengthy queue times.

2.)This one just kinda confuses me, I don’t see anything wrong with it or anything. Do you have certain characters that you only use for WvW? Personally I play all my characters everywhere. But yea if people have certain characters that they only use for WvW I can see that being useful

How about a section in the collectibles part of the bank for each dye? Then you could preview dyes and easily pick what you want.

I had to buy 2 extra bank slots if I wanted to save all my identified dyes. As I said before I’d like them to be account bound but I think given them their own storage could make everyone happy. Especially being able to preview lets players see exactly which dye they should buy/find.

Crash.7910

There’s a lot of good discussion here.

I’m not sure the way the game is structured allows for dyes to be account bound without some negative effects.

Regardless I vote yes on account bound dyes cause I have 8 chars and I must have had over 100 dyes across all of them and I haven’t used a single one cause I like all my characters, I don’t have a ‘main’ and I don’t want to give one to a character and then have to find/buy it again for another.

Perhaps if only rare dyes were account bound but the others were not? or perhaps the opposite? Then there’s still a sense of collecting for each character but the list of colors won’t be so overwhelming | the collectible dyes are the cheaper/more common ones.

[Suggestion] Character Remake

Crash.7910

I’d like to throw in a big giant Yes to this suggestion. I made a similar post on a gw2 suggestions site I found. I likened it to the NEWGAME+ options that exist in a lot of single player rpgs. I would love to replay my characters and see the other options they could have taken. I personally would prefer that it be an item in the gem store (maybe a tome like the ones from GW1 that record the missions you’ve done) but I would even be satisfied if it worked like Nightfall where after you finished the game you could go back and do the missions you missed due to your characters choices.

I agree for the most part with people who say that it’s not that hard to make a new character. I’ve got 8 characters I’m currently trying to level up pretty evenly and it’s fun to switch to a new class when I want to change it up. My main concern is that since I have a character of each class it’s kind of hard for me to justify making a new character when I’ve already got the bases covered and I certainly don’t want to deleted one of them.

For anyone concerned with double items and whatnot I’m totally fine with not getting any reward items (I’m already 80 by the time I NEWGAME+) or simply not getting reward items from things I’ve already done on the character once.

To Ebhilin: I totally agree with your point about Anet having more important things to be doing and I’d hope they would get these things resolved before working on something like this. The ‘buyers remorse’ thing wouldn’t in any way be a result of this new option. As we’ve already seen there are plenty of people who feel that way about the character they’ve created. I might even suggest that forcing a player to reroll the same character to experience their alternative storyline would be even more likely to upset people because there’s no way back, with this system you can change back if you like. I think suggesting that people might resent the fact that some people use real money to by it is a bit strange considering you can buy gems with in game money. I don’t really see a problem with it the game rewarding experience from the missions you haven’t done, you’re still playing the game and investing time but I would totally want to leave that up to Anet to do the math on cause after all they have all the numbers. I think a lot of this is basically people (and I think there are plenty who feel this way) wanting to have more of their game experience to be ‘account bound’ instead of ‘character bound’. Also I’m curious if you could elaborate on how you feel this would make the game ‘pay to win’.

To shroommage: I agree that it’s probably not a simple solution, but would add that that’s certainly not a reason to pass on the idea. also I’m not sure your example works, because giving people an item that gives them all of those things DOES affect you/them. Changing ones race/gender/class/storyline really shouldn’t have any impact on anyone else in the game any more than seeing a warrior in hot-pink chainmail.
