I dont bother fighting them anymore, just avoid or burst them enough to put them on the defensive and move along. I know they wont bother sticking around if they are going to lose and most of them are skilled enough now to be aware of their own breaking point, so whats the point?
Pretty much this.
When i roam in WvW, a lot of thieves like to start chasing me, assuming im going to be an easy kill, but as soon as i put up a fight, most of them will just stealth and run.
Challenge is pointless, because if you’re downed or about to die, all you need to do is exit the game (alt f4) to keep your death counter at 0. It only works in PvE though.
Does that really work? o_o
Yes, make a new character and test it. Let a mob put you in downed state, then exit the game. Death counter will remain the same. It doesn’t work in WvW or PvP though, because i assume the kill has to be registered on those modes.

My time in WvW has dropped a lot on the past 2 weeks. It is getting boring.
It’s been going on for far too long. When does this season end anyways?
So i have noticed a huge amount of longbow users in PvP and WvW who either don’t read their skill tooltips or haven’t got a clue on how to weapon swap. It’s pretty comical, fighting a bunch of rangers who are determined to use their longbow in melee whilst im smashing their face in with my warrior hammer. It’s as if they have gone, “i am playing a ranger and therefore i shall use my longbow in every situation”
Dear rangers who do this, even though you’re a ranger, you do have access to melee weapons, i know this might be a surprise to you but it’s better than trying to auto attack people with your longbow in melee range.

I don’t think i have ever played a game where the stealth mechanic has been designed well. TF2 is the closest i can think of. I haven’t played ESO, but from what people are saying, it seems very good. Stealth in GW2 is as bad as it gets. Terrible stuff.

Regardless. I still believe Anet has no true vision for this class. They never did and i doubt they ever will. They pass the ranger off as a pet class but a year and a half later, the pets have been nerfed and they still need serious work done to them. Are we going to see any fixes to the pets at all? This is the only pet class i have ever played where the pet is considered more of a hindrance.
WoodenPotatoes put together a informative video about the tower.
I’m sick of people complaining about their pet.
If you don’t want a pet-class, you don’t want Ranger. It’s as simple as that.
A true pet class wouldn’t have it so it’s pet is actually more of a hindrance in most of the content and actually gimps the ranger. A proper pet class wouldn’t have clumsy AI with skill delays to which Anet admitted they may not be able to fix it.
The ranger is a bad beastmaster at that, it’s laughable.
I think it’s pretty obvious that Anet has never had any real vision for the ranger class and they never will. No surprise people are giving up.
When i take a look at the ranger, it’s design, traits, pet, description etc, the phrase “a camel is a horse designed by a committee” always comes to mind. Basically meaning the ineffectiveness of too many conflicting opinions into a single project.
Instead of having a real vision for the class, they just mashed a bunch of ideas together and out came the ranger. Theres a bloody trait called “beastmasters bond” in the marksman tree. What on earth does that have to do with marksman? It’s a mess.

3/10. I rate it that low simply because living story has driven me away from the game.
There have been a few good living story updates, but majority of them have been lackluster and unforgettable.
Is it this track, by any chance?
If so, you could always hear it whenever you went close to the Tengu Wall on the eastern edge of Caledon Forest. Maybe they’ve broadened it so it plays randomly in all Maguuma maps?
Yes that is the track. Thanks for the link.
Very easy to do it with a ranger. Pop ROA. Then when you’re near her, use hunters shot on the longbow, then hit quickening zephyr, done.
I was running around Caledon forest and noticed it too. First time i have heard the music. It’s actually become my favourite piece of music in the game now. Very tranquil.
Thank you for the answers everyone!
Just one more question, if I may?
I’m faced with a long list of servers, some of them with the European and others with the American tag. I am playing from pretty much the heart of Europe. Would it cause any issues to pick an American server?
Since someone mentioned Tarnished Coast being an unofficial RP realm, I’m interested in giving it a go.
Im from England and have been on Tarnished Coast from the start and i have experienced no issues at all. I think EU does have an unofficial RP server too, i can’t remember which one it is though.
I need to send around 400g to a friend, but i have read on these forums that there is a possibility that our accounts will get banned.
Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?
(edited by CrossFire.8037)
I think you need to get 50 power core components to assemble a power core that will open the lair door.
Have you tried finding a group with the LFG tool? Normally when i post for a story mode run, the group fills in under a minute.
There are no healers in this game and trying to pigeonhole yourself as just a healer will be nothing short of frustrating for you and the group you’re with. You will have to bring a lot more to the table, instead of standing at the back trying to play a healer.
For me, the closest thing that ‘feels’ like a healer is a staff elementalist, specced in the water trait line.

In every MMO and online game i have played, the ranger, hunter, sniper archetype is always popular.
I hope it’s a fake, but i wouldn’t be surprised at all if this is the route they’re going to take.
If they’re not going to do expansions, then this is a good way to get peoples money along with releasing living story weapon/armor skins etc.
Overpriced, IMO. 500 for some face art…? 200 gems max. I’d rather roll a norn if i was that desperate for some face art. Oh well, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure as they say.
Unless im mistaken, i thought the skins you can buy with the claim tickets are also on the TP which you can buy with gold.
I’ve opened around 40 chests and i have 4 ticket scraps, so all in all, this “discount” is pointless considering how absurd it is to even get one claim ticket.
And those who know me already here’s the… 6th, 7th? (I lost track) challenge: add my gametag, i’m EU, let’s do a <insertcontent> i’ll show you how to keep the pet alive.
Spoilers: nobody takes up this challenge, ppl complaint for the sake of it.
People don’t want to take up this “challenge” of yours because pet management is not hard at all, so i have no idea why you keep acting as if it is.
It’s bizarre, in a lot of threads that contain different suggestions to fix the pet, here you are, coming in with the same stuff, telling people need to learn about pet management and that the fix for pets is down to the player and not Anet, even though Anet themselves confirmed pets need fixing, but they do no know when or how they can fix the issue.
Dudes and dudettes face it please: it’s YOU! The “fix” is for YOU! YOU are broken!
Hilarious.

I have 1 character, a human ranger. Been playing from the start with around 1800 hours played in total. I have had other characters, but i deleted them because i didn’t like the class or race.
And the last part is quite funny, seeing as you don’t really have a clue about if I am a man or not, so you are basically doing exactly what you are whinging about others doing.
Exactly.
This thread…kill it with fire.
I also don’t understand why people get bvtthurt at the mention of making pets optional… it’s like they take this kitten personal or something equally stupid. Why? Why don’t you want the option to have a class mechanic that works properly? Why do you want everyone to suffer with you? Why must you be so selfish as to want us all to use the same band aided pet that you want to use? I don’t understand this thought process that thinks having a not fully functional class mechanic is acceptable.
They do well in solo PvE, thinking that pets are great, then come to the forums stating that “pets are fine, and those who don’t think so need to learn to play”, “You need to master pet management”, “But ranger is the pet class”
I’ve quoted John Peters and his statement about the pet AI in the 10th dec patch thread multiple times to people, yet some people still refuse to acknowledge pets are broken.
(edited by CrossFire.8037)
Here is some gameplay from another popular game that has their own version of a Ranger class. This is how I think many people expected the Rangers in Guild Wars 2 to play at range
Nope. Many people who picked the ranger class expected the class core mechanic to be working as intended. Even a developer has said (in the dec 10th patch thread) that they know the pets F2 ability needs to be fixed, but they have no idea if or when they will fix it.
(edited by CrossFire.8037)
The fact that they have gone through with this decision tells me that they do not care about peoples time. A lot of people saved up their gold for the T3 cultural armor. For many people, that was their endgame armor they were striving for. The new set just released, costs cheaper and has an added effect, making the original look rather dull in comparison.
Cultural armor is another major thing that made the races feel and look unique. Many people simply rolled the race they have because of the cultural armor, and now you’re starting to sell them on the gemstore with added effects? Baffling decision.
One can’t be too surprised though, considering it’s near 2014 and new releases are around the corner. It’s time for them to start scraping as much money as possible before people start flocking.
At least we now know that nothing is exempt when it comes to the gem store. They have just sacrificed cultural armor, which is unique to the human race for a quick buck .I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if they start selling class elites, or exclusive abilities for X amount of gems soon. This is just a stepping stone.
It’s pretty shocking that they have done this. Out of all the light skins, they choose cultural armor.
I’m still astounded ANet refuses to even comment about why they are not making strides to make archer a possible playstyle despite all of the demand.
After over a year i finally gave up on the idea to play as a pure archer. Trying to make it work has been nothing but a frustrating experience, and like you said, it’s baffling that Anet are not even making changes for a pure archer to be possible, considering it’s a popular class archetype.
best so you can track it and see that the pet is absolutely no drag at all.
I’ll be more than happy to show you the sweet side of having a pet.
Below is a quote from Jon Peters regarding the f2 ability delay that has been with the rangers pets from the start. There are plenty of times the f2 ability goes on CD but the ability doesn’t even trigger. But according to you, the pets are not a problem.
Summoned creature AI is a different can of worms that we aren’t opening for the same reason. Pets that delay F2 use isn’t some wait script we put into their skills it has to do with core AI behavior shared by all pets and creatures and how they decide tasks. Rewriting that has the risks of breaking millions of unknown things so we have up until now band aided the solution. It is something that needs addressing but won’t be addressed until we can kitten how and when we will test it.
Considering pets are our core class mechanic, i’d say there is a problem with pets.
I have been playing ranger from the very start, and it is still my main. I exceed well with the class, but that doesn’t blind me from the serious problems the ranger has when it comes to it’s pets.
(edited by CrossFire.8037)
So what’s the problem YOU been having with pet?
Can i help?
Everyone who plays a ranger has the same problem, the pets are simply broken. This isn’t user specific, nor a learn to play issue.
And it’s actually not totally facerollable content which is freaking fantastic, you actually have to engage your brain to make it to the top without getting a whole bunch of nasty things on ya.
This is where you’re wrong. It is faceroll content. Hop on a zerg train, and get to the top, then solo the toxic hybrid. The chambers are….nothing, they take around 3 minutes to finish.
PS: this is not hard content, it is frustrating content. You do it for achievements and never look back.
Sums it up perfectly.

The ascended armor looks like it was designed by someone who was on acid, in a dark room, listening to amateur house techno music at maximum volume.
If you’re a Sylvari and care about clipping, don’t purchase the new long hairstyle.
8/10 The double ‘Y’ is a bit off putting, but it’s still a good name.
My Elementalist is called ‘Jaecob’ – a variation of ‘Jacob’.
My Guardian is called ‘Alixandor’ – a variation of ‘Alexander’, meaning ‘protector of men’
(edited by CrossFire.8037)
5/10. Sorry but the name doesn’t relate to Sylvari lore, nor does it look like a Sylvari name. Plus its a name of a song.
My Sylvari warrior name is Rhains. Rhain meaning ‘lance, spear’
My elementalist is called Wynston

I recently rolled a ranger, using shortbow and longbow, with the intent of doing good damage from a distance, but i have a lot of gripes with the class, to the point that i can’t continue playing it. I was thinking a rolling a thief, with a ranged play style in mind using the shortbow and dual pistol. I’m just curious if people play their thief more from a distance rather than melee and find it viable.
WvWvW, dungeons, SPvP, does a ranged thief work?
Now that we have the living story, i think at some point, ANET could create a really good 2 week event surrounding Isgarren and his castle. Questions surrounding the castle and it’s owner can be answered.
The castle is just sat there, so tempting, full of intrigue and promise, i hope ANET will expand on it at some point.
Thoughts?
Caledon Forest. It’s Vibrant with colour. I love the Sylvari house pods and the zone has good JPs.
I’m thinking of using ALT keyboard sequences for some of my character names and i was just wondering if it is wise to do so. Those of you who have done, do you regret it? Do people have a hard time inviting you to a party? Is it even allowed?
(For those who don’t know, ALT keyboard sequences, using the keypad – ALT + 135 = ç or ALT + 134 = å)

Funxx – I will give it 8/10. It’s a good short name. If it was just ‘Funx’ then i would rate it 9, but Funxx works well.

My warrior is called Zeecke
(edited by CrossFire.8037)

Furrik Boneshatter – Furrik is great, so is Boneshatter. Both names work well together. 9/10

(edited by CrossFire.8037)
Maxari – I like it. It’s short and rolls of the tongue very nicely. And it’s one word.
9.5/10
My engineer is called Fhelix.
I like Thand but not too keen with the ‘rik’ and the end. Graveguard is good, i like it.
Overall 8/10.
My warrior is called Felix Thaddeus
My ranger is called Archidia
