Went with Staff. Even though I use Scepter probably more, the Staff is giving twice the numerical bonus as an upgrade. And extra condition damage while holding staff is still going to boost existing ticking dots put on from the scepter / dagger.
The actual damage range upgrade on staff is doing more for you too as all those marks multiply in damage per target hit (and for DS). Scepter being the condi weapon not that important its base damage range.
boost existing ticks all the while not allowing you to up keep your stacks… good job. should had gone with scepter
fyi, choosing Squeamish gambit makes you NOT CAUSE ANY BLEEDS

I say play it a while and then see how you feel.
We did a big set of improvements to Necro recently, and we want to make sure we don’t over improve their defense capabilities.
We want to shift more focus to death shroud throug main hand skills, but, again, we don’t want to do this too fast, ESPECIALLY with a major Pax tournament right around the corner.
So death shroud gains may not be as high as you would like, but we’ll keep monitoring them and looking at further improvements to make.
and yet we have no purpose at all in PvE

Pro’s:
It’s let the few top level PvP necro’s faceroll with glass cannon hybrid.
Cons:
It doesn’t fit into necro lore. Life & fire god vs death & cold.
It’s a condition stuck at the top of Power line.
It’s a auto-proc in the background of other things. Requiring no skill to use/activate, and also means no control over it going on clones & other things you don’t want it to.
Terror on Fear has been nurfed because of it. Slapping any condi necro who doesn’t go 30 points power.
30/30 build + Nightmare Rune is now seen as the ONLY PvP build.
Fairly useless in PvE.
Lots & lots of people don’t want to play PvP against this necro type, and lots of necro’s from beta, are feeling like un-main’ing there necro.

Thats it! I’m done. The necromancer is dead to me. Arena Net honestly can’t be trusted to keep true to the lore of there own game. Necromancers now have the element of destruction, life and purity. There isn’t going to be a Cantha expansion, there isn’t going to be a ritualist, they are never going to answer the questions left behind in GW1. The spider god is going to be written out of the story, the asura did come to the surface before Eye of the north, Magic is crumbling, what ever it meant to be a necromancer is now meaning less.
Thanks Arena Net. You broke my trust in you… I trusted that you would keep true to the flavor and lore of the game, but you can’t even do that.
you… have you EVER played GW1 past level 5? Any class can use any skill from any class……. example, Necro using Ele skills….

I believe Urmaug’s Secret is the easiest due to the shortness of it, the ease of the jumps, but mostly the quick access to it.
(That’s the one by the waterfall in the NE corner of LA)

still having the same issues. ive also done clean installs of my drivers.
tried using OS on diff HDD, got same issue
yea my comp does, ive been playin since the beta, its just now starting to do this.(i7 920, 2 gtx 480’s, 6gb RAM)

well i NEED to repair but when ever i do it gets to a certain number and every time it crashes… i havent been able to play in over a week and have tried redownloading a couple times… i think GW2 might just be done for me… need some help

but… rune of necromancer gives 20% fear duration
If you’re playing a condition based necro you’re never taking that over something like Blood is Power or Epidemic.
And then there are skills like spectral walk, signet of the locust and corrupt boon that, while situational, are still less so, and far more powerful, than Corrosive Poison Cloud.
Essentially… It’s not that bad… But if you’re using conditions at all you have other options that are actually good.
use all 3 or get rid of epidemic for boss fights that dont really have any ads like the tree boss in the swamp fractal for example
Not to be rude, but is there ANY evidence that all bleeds tick simultaneously? You can’t compare it to Poison, Burning, or Fear because those can only ever tick once per second anyway, no matter how large of a stack there is.
Bleeds are all tracked seprately on their durations and intensity, so it makes no sense that they would all do their damage at the same time. On top of that, graphically we have evidence against that as a bleed stack has numbers flying off constantly, not bursts of numbers once per second.
I have never seen Barbed Precision tick twice unless you have 100% bleed duration (though it is difficult to tell as it is rarely your only bleed).
well an enemies health doesnt continuously drop as the ticks happen, it seems like it takes all the cond dmg that happens in around 1 sec then applies the dmg to its Hp over and over
Although, I could see an argument for using two of those slots for Cond/Tough/Vit Ascended items. Make your Condimancer a bit more tankish. Probably only lose
~1% on Crit-Rate.I disagree. Necromancers have enough health with this build. If survivability ever feels like a problem, it’s a personal, not class, issue.
About yesterday’s patch… Is it a good option to use focus instead of dagger for PvP now?
By the way, awesome guide, leveling a necromancer right nowNope. Off-hand dagger has bleeds, weakness and blind. It’s much better than the limited options from focus.
Lately I’ve started dropping corrupt boon for Well of suffering (and I take Focused Rituals for it) when I’m doing WvW and I’m not solo roaming. (easy enough to swap back if needed)
I feel it’s very strong against zergs and gives you an additional ranged AoE tool in sieges.
The direct damage and vulnerability is useless for condition necromancers, and losing Terror is worthless.
how is losing Terror NOT worthless with someone that has no cond dur increases? if anything the buffed Weakening Shroud is the better way to go(melee dmg range really shouldnt be that big of an issue)

Be wary, fellow necromancers. My friend got it as a drop, gave it to me since I helped him grind his hall of monuments on guild wars 1, and I’ve learned that, well, it has the same animation problem with the sycthe staff skin.
I’m starting to think anet likes to mess with us. the TWO staves perfect for us, gets animation problems. XD
same animation problem as the scythe? uh nope. the necro shadow scythe part on my staff goes right above the real blade. ive NEVER seen it go in the middle of the stave like your pic shows

Sometimes activating consumables in tonic form lets you jump afterwards, other than that I have no idea.
@Oglaf. Try the everlasting wintersday tonics if you still have your hands on the parts I believe endless toy soilder allows you to jump

This is a problem in every part of the game. The tool tips are all terrible. The vast majority of skill tool tips don’t give numbers and don’t even describe how something works. I feel like I play Google Wars 2 sometimes.

Wow, I didn’t even notice they had Unique items in this game. That’s one mechanic I despised in WoW that I hoped would never be adopted by this game. Shame about that.
Hope more players see this since that may be something they will miss!

I’m not trolling. If you have “Red Ring of Death” and “Red Ring of Death (Infused)”, they count as separate rings and can be equipped at the same time AFAIK.
That is true, but if you’re trying to reach the AR cap (which is currently 30), you’ll have to give up the uninfused version for another ring.

When I didn’t know what unique meant, I typed this in-game chat (without the quotes): “/wiki Unique” It answered my questions and I didn’t make the same mistake you did. Every game has its own terminology and shorthand, and while there is some need for the game developers to explain it, it has always been important for the user to be cognizant of these things before making irreversible decisions. For me, the responsibility of being aware is on you, and while your plight is unfortunate, the number one person to blame is yourself.
As an aside, noother.2190 is correct. The (Infused) and uninfused variants count as separate items and can be equipped together.

There should be more low level unique items to help players learn what unique means before they spend 10 pristine tokens on a second unique Ascended ring.

I bought the same ascended ring because well i didnt want the defensive one. Come to find out theres something called Unique on these items. The “Official” Wiki doesnt say anything about this when you look at the description for Ascended. how the hell was i supposed to know Unique meant i couldnt equip 2 of the same items? this was never explained… so now im assed out 10 pristine tokens ._.
only way you could find out is to wiki unique, which i didnt because ive seen it only on ascended items… thought it was just there because it was ascended… so it was unique…
