I will test tonight, but I could swear you get the condition removal along with the heal if you immediately destroy the turret, but it has to be immediate.
You have to deploy the turret — then hit F1 to destroy the turret for a instant heal + condition removal. Its a 2 step process.
You are exactly right. This is a MMO, the purpose of a MMO is to advance in levels or achievements in ANY part of the game that you want to play. As a WvW player I find all those things listed to be poor, poor judgements on ANets part and they need to be addressed fairly fast before they lose a large community from the game.
Also the fact that badges can be used across all characters is a bad idea as well. Badges should be character bound. This would not allow players from jumping to FOTM classes just to farm badges for the class they really want to gear in the first place.
WvW needs more personal achievements to allow players to progress, or they will .. I repeat WILL get bored and leave. sPvP is awful. Don’t make me play small maps and deal with sPvP for “personal” gain.
Titles would also go a long way in WvW for accomplishments. For example – The Lone Enforcer Title for solo WvW kills. This will take some of the population away from the zergs. Just my 2 cents. Yes, I am a former 10 year DAoC’er :P
Bump for another day of opinions.
Hello all … some background.
I have a level 80 thief. I play MMO’s mainly for pvp. For GW2 I prefer solo or small man WvW action, I do not really care for sPvP. With all the FOTM Thiefs exploiting the class and the guaranteed incoming nerfs (and all the general negativity) I am looking for a new class for myself.
I have never really been a fan of casters, the engineer class is alright but appears to be more of a kiting class. So I have narrowed my selection to either a Guardian or a Warrior. The type of game play I enjoy is roaming solo, capping supply camps looking for small man fights and definitely away from the zerg.
My question is for people who have similar tastes and have either rolled or have friends that they play with help me pick a direction for my next level 80. I am also trying to take into account what class might get future nerfs or buffs and it appears that the Warrior is probably on the low end of the scale needing some bug fixes and general overall buff to some abilities.
I know they have their strengths and weaknesses, but for the role I am looking to fill which would make more sense? I am leaning towards the warrior (mostly for mobility), but have not taken any options off the table.
The play styles appear similar and I have read alot of discussions on both the classes, I guess if you were in my shoes (and know what kind of end-game I would like to play) which one would you prefer?
Any information, videos or general helpful comments would be appreciated.
Thanks!
if you have trouble hiding for a ambush .. use the /sleep emote. you will lie down and stay there until you move
Darwin takes care of alot.

The more Anet nerfs, the more wow babies will cry. It’s a endless cycle.
In a nutshell .. they lost in pvp because they didn’t do one of MANY things to counter a thief. Instead of learning how the game works .. they do what WoW has taught them .. cry until it gets fixed to appeal to the masses. Dodging or carrying a stun breaker is too much trouble.
Another quick question about the build … on the site you use for the build you have 20 points in Earth Magic and you have a X skill which reads “Stone Splinters” (Which I believe is supposed to be VI). I think the real X skill is “Geomancer’s Alacrity”.
Which one do you really use?
Thanks!
Arenanet intended Elementalist for only 0.1% of the playerbase who have a masochistic desire for being owned over and over. Even in PvP Elementalist is the worst possible choice. It makes Hunter seem overpowered in start Cataclysm in WoW.
ROFL.
Yeah they suck alright …

L2P.
For Engineers that use the Rifle, they lose the stats from the offhand slot. It would be nice to see them add a item into the game that is a backpack (offhand item) that could hold stats.
This would allow you to place the item in your offhand (have a different look for each style of backpacks) and give us the stats we lose from only using 1 weapon.
The slot is already in the game as the backpack exists, its just not really more then just a cosmetic item.
Just an idea. What do you think?
will test tonight

The only way out is the way through.
There is no short-cut to learning this class. It has many viable builds. It can be approached and played in a variety of ways. That is what makes this class so much fun.
Take some time, learn some of the traits and builds, and make one your own based on your own play style.
Great Video. I especially like that your constantly outnumbered and solo. I also like that you show yourself in fights where you die. Some you win and some you lose. But they are all fun to watch. Nicely done. Bravo!
I see no problem with this change.
This is the only logical answer.
I was wrong. This post is full of win. Thank you Mr. Slapper, for an amusing friday afternoon.
Is there a website out yet to help with template builds? So I can experiment with stat builds?
There is no best build in my opinion. It all depends on your play style and where you plan to pvp. For example in sPvP I prefer a heavy condition build with d/d and in WvW I prefer a heavy vitality, healing survivability build, using p/d and d/d.
Build will vary from “glass cannon” to heavy “tank” survivability builds. There are all kinds in between. You need to decide how you want to play your thief, then find a build that suits you.
Have fun!
I’m on JQ, but already in a small guild of friends. But I wouldn’t mind running with a small group of thieves in wvw. I do small man or solo at the moment anyways.
Always looking for fun
Want a fun trick? Aggro a bunch of mobs and run to a warrior that is AFK and stealth.
Seriously though .. the Thief is a play style. You cannot compare the Warrior to the Thief. It’s two different approaches to the same game.
Good luck to you!
Survivability using alot of vitality and healing power are keys to a condition build. You do not kill the fastest, you want to be able to outlast your opponent. I currently run over 21k hit points in WvW and it helps alot.
I would suggest putting your points in to shadow arts, acrobatics and trickery.
So all you do is complain. Got it.
+1 on the informative post.
Again .. your playstyle doesn’t reflect everyone elses. Why did you even make this post? Is it because you think you are better then everyone else because you don’t know how to reset your timers and turn the tide of a fight? Just keep spamming heartseeker and leave these forums alone troll.
I mean seriously .. are we talking about PRACTICE?
Daring to Dent? ROFLMAO.
Wow. U R DA PiMpWhOsYoUrDadDysMoMmA aight!
Hi, level 12 pvp thief here, about 100 games into thief spvp alone and really liking it, but one thing really does my head in vs other thieves…why o why do you run away? Stand up and fight like a man and die, or win!! It is a game, there is no penalty for dying…in fact I would venture to say it is quicker just to respawn than go and wait out all your CDs….
Thoughts??
I love it when people named “Pimp Slapper” try and tell others how to play a game. Good Stuff. Obvious troll is obvious.
Pistol/Dagger and Dagger/Dagger
There is an entire build based on this …
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Jinzu-s-Burst-Backstab-Build/first#post139741
Im fighting an thief one on one. He goes down to 25% hp with tons of conditions on him (burn, bleed, poison). He goes invisible. The minute he comes out i take 4k damage, die, and he has 25% more hp and no conditions. Wtf just happened?
It’s the thief healing skill. It stealths him, removes conditions and heals him. While in stealth he used his stealth backstab attack for max damage.
The thief can only stay stealthed for a small amount of time. To counter this .. move away from the area quickly to avoid a backstab, wait for him to re-appear from stealth. Continue your fight.
Thief is a great class. Plenty of options and different play styles. Don’t listen to the hate.
Some very interesting points:
7) You don’t want to play another class so you are forced to quit
can I have your stuff?
I had already asked for his stuff … If there is some stuff I can’t use I will send some your way.
Can I have your stuff?
I don’t accept your cheesy apology. In fact I am now looking forward to WvW against Storm Bluff Isle, so I can farm some easy kills.
Thanks Mouse!
Thief
Heartseeker: Reduced damage of the 100%-50% threshold by 20%. Damage thresholds changed. Old: 100%-66%, 66%-33%, 33%-0%. New: 100%-50%, 50%-25%, 25%-0%.
It seems to happens if your weapons are out .. bind a key to put weapons away and speed comes back.
I haven’t played a engineer (so engineers dont flame me here) but they appear to just setup turrets and let them do alot of the work in PvE.
… and now the student, becomes the teacher.
Thanks Ares!
Its either hold down shift or alt (always forget which one) — and move the stack, it will prompt you to split it. (IF the item can be split).
It encourages you do purchase gems for gold so they can make more profit – no sub so you have the extra cash right.
This makes the most sense so far. Shame.
I will bite, where is it?
You want to concentrate on Condition Damage and Duration. Do not overlook duration
They have more then 1 and they are in multiple level ranges …
