So, I don’t know where else to put this. (Not in the profession subforums that’s for sure – they’re too busy crying about their changes [I think. Meh, what do I know?])
Anyway, when comparing the Professions of GW2 to normal fantasy archetypes, where would the profession fall into? Like, a Guardian would be a Cleric or a Paladin or a Crusader or whatever.
Engineers would be alchemists and stuffs. Maybe they could even be modern day hunters .(you know, in Urban Fantasy people would use guns and gadgets and elixirs and crap.)
I already sort of have an Engineer character planned, but I’ll definitely take it into consideration.
Any more? I could kind of see that a character not fond of magic REALLY narrow professions down, so I’d have to make workarounds.
Eh, I just really wanted to give a simplistic point of view. (Although it’s rather childish, I guess. I’m weird like that)
I’ve read most of the evidence and some of the counter theories too, so I don’t really have stance on anything. Just want to see where ArenaNet will go with this.
Human walks in…
Umm, bookah! You stop throwing around 10 gold words like they’re nobody’s business, you floppy ear dumber than skritt-when-they-are-in-the-same-room race!
braces puny human self
I don’t really think Sylvari can be minions. I mean, they’re freakin’ playable!
If anything, Sylvari could be Dragon Slayers or something. You know, because they’re immune to corruption. Heck, they even have a Dragon Slaying sword! (Caladbolg) Still pure speculation, though.
So I’m currently working on a story, and decided that it would be fun to integrate the main character into the Guild Wars universe.
The problem is, I’m having a hard time choong the optimal profession for him. He’s a detective – a rather lazy one, in fact – of this law keeping force. Being lazy, he doesn’t resort to combat, but since he’s part of this integral military law keeping group, combat is inevitable. So he fights by choosing the best way to bring down an opponent as quick as he can, being the lazy kitten he is, he doesn’t want to waste energy on a fight. (Given that he doesn’t want to waste energy at all) He can be a combat pragmatist.
I’ve tried Warrior, but that profession seems to be about brute force. Dunno.
Also, the character is not fond of magic.

I personally would find some kind of Samurai Profession to be rather awesome if they ever put in one. It would be like a Warrior but more about movement and all.

Unless i’m wrong (which I don’t think I am) this is just another depiction of Kralkatorrik.
Eh, I wasn’t really saying that bigger is stronger. Anyway, that Kralkatorikk picture is HUGE. How could a small band of six people fought that!? (Granted they had Glint along, but kitten.)
I would guess that Bubbles would be the strongest, because of the previously mentioned driving out dangerous races, but also because it hasn’t had a champion beaten before. (Although that also might go to Mordremoth) We’ve beaten Tequatl, the Claw of Jormag, the Dwarves beat The Great Destroyer, and Destiny’s Edge probably weakened Kralkatorrik. So I’m guessing that Bubbles is still on full force because that guy hadn’t ahd any minions beaten yet.
I might also guess that he’s one of the bigger Elder Dragons because… well, that dragon’s in the ocean. Who knows how gigantic he might be?
Ah, great as always Chaos Archangel! Do more of these, seriously, they’re awesome. You’ve got to make one with Necromancer vs X. Would be cool.
Alright, this is a rather minor question, but when I played the “Street Rat” option of the Personal Story, the mail you get (from Quinn) has voice acting in it, where as the other stories (Commoner and Noble) don’t have voice acting. Why is this and is it only on my end?
Ah, I cannot stress how hard it is to settle on one profession. Heck, now I’m even having a hard time choosing a race! (What Norn would want to have a Detective legend? Why would a Charr want to just solve cases instead of fighting [unless they’re Ash Legion, I suppose])
For the Profession, I’m torn between a Blue-Collar Warlock Detective Elementalist type (Hellblazer FTW), or an Inquisitor type Guardian who also acts as some sort of judge.
I was curious and kind of bored when I thought that I wanted to make a Detective-esque character. Now I’m wondering what profession would best fit the role of a detective?
Of course, all of them could be detectives; I just want to see your personal insights on it.
I expect Necromancer. (Because of Marjory.)
8/10 It somehow fits in with Asura naming conventions.
Just made an Asura Necromancer, and am loving him a lot! He is Detective Hannous -guess what he does for a living. xD
8/10, a unique name which surprisingly sounds Norn-like (at least, for me). Could use a surname, although it would sound like a priest if you do.
I have a Norn Thief named Enoch Schicksalson. Enoch is Biblical Latin, I know, but Braham seemingly comes from Abraham (I think. haven’t really searched it.) Schicksalson means “Son of Fate/Destiny” while Enoch means “Dedicated” – He is a Dedicated Son of Destiny.
How would that work out? I want to RP a Norn that only rarely drinks and joins moots. How would other Norns treat him and such?
Also, would be in line with the lore?
- In game name: Ivar Vergilio
- Server: Sea Of Sorrows
- Preferred game type: PvE, mostly, but do PvP and WvW when bored.
Just recently started to use Ranger – it became my main. I now love the Ranger.
I’ve been doing Champion Farming until I’ve grown bored of it and actually started world completion (note: I’m pretty new, and I only have a level 45 Mesmer.) And I got to finish meta events around the world which are FUN and rewarding if you finish it to the end. (Especially the meta event chain on Harathi Hinterlands, where the final boss is against an epic Modniir boss that gives rares and a bomus chest. He had us fighting summons, and by the end, we were happy.) So I hope this means we get more people spreading about the vast world of Tyria.
8/10 on the Elementalist. I’ve been really liking names with titles before them. :/
5/10 on the Ranger. Not bad, but I I’m not really a fan of the titles AFTER the name. xD
6/10 om the Mesmer. Same reason, but Deceptor goes well with the whole Mesmer thing.
I have two humans. A male Guardian named Jude Wycliffe and a female Mesmer named Noel Florentine. I dunno, they both sound like really modern names, but I like ’em.
