I appreciate the hard work but they are making the same mistakes over and over. Not testing under extreme loads and seriously bug testing stuff they are making out to be ‘BIG THINGS’.
In addition, their basic delivery of an event makes me think middle managers and not ‘gamer-oriented’ people are making the final decisions. One 45 minute zergfest is …THE EVENT. No…just no.
This is not a newbie company nor is it a ‘new venture’ into gaming. Basic tried and true rules apply and they are ignoring them. To their…and the players…detriment.
Not available until after the event at 3PM EST/12 Noon PST Saturday 11/17/12 (approximately 8.5 hrs)
Why this matters anyway…
An unpleasant, exclusionary environment will contribute to a loss of player investment. A loss of investment will lead to a reduction of the active population (which can then snowball). Such a reduction will negatively impact everyone in a variety of ways. Especially in this game, which has a certain dependency on activity levels, due to the open-world nature of the content.
Thus, not promoting such an environment is in ANet’s long-term interests.
Basically this. I wouldn’t cry elitism (well maybe once in a while for a few very over the top monkeys) but the game is ‘casual’ from level 1 to level 80. They have said this over and over. Now when a ‘casual’ wants to start running new content, they will be excluded/shoehorned as thier gear won’t be enough.
I really don’t care about GW2 any longer but it’s sad to think some good (many good) players who have been in a generally enjoyable casual game up until now, will end up dropping the game due to this new gear system. ANet is grinding their cash shop proceeds into the dust (over time), IMO.
Unless there is a completion bonus for doing all 3 no one who who missed the event missed much. The reward was a standard DE allotment. 17K XP and 1.5-1.7 silver (didn’t note the actual karma points at the time).
For a 45 min event mostly fraught with lag and a bit of confusion.
I played through from start to finish on the event. Had the same lag as everyone else. took 45 minutes (approx) on Kaineng. Got the same rewards I would get from a standard DE down in Cursed Shore.
I really thought they would make this into a serious home run hit to ‘re-unveil’ the potential enjoyment that is GW2. Came off more like a foul ball. I may try tomorrow’s event but if something else comes up (like raking leaves) I think I’ll stick with that.
They are plain to ugly exotics (assuming level 80) which end up costing you approximately 6 gold for something you can buy on the TP for 2 to 2.5.
This is generally disappointing
The level 80 exotics you can buy with commendations cost 1300 comms. If you throw in 3 level 80 greens, you get 12 comms. That measn 108 (or 324 greens) throws to get the required 1300 comms. If you sell those greens directly to NPC vendors, at 1.4 silver per (ish) you get approximately 450 silver (or 4.5 gold). Add in the 1.5 gold it costs for the 108 wrappers and you are paying approximately 6 gold for an exotic weapon that yiou van buy in the TP for 2- 2.5 gold.
Sad really. And the 4 I looked at were plain at best and at least 1 (the level 80 shield) downright ugly.
What’s this I’m hearing about rascism??
Read the article linked in the OP on gamespy.
Well, the scenery could do with a bit more vitality. I can go for hours in Cursed Shore and not see another player.
Maybe I’m not looking at it right since I am a solo player.
Nope. You are right on, mate. Same as day 1 (well day 7 for me). Other than the bot groups/karma farmers in their pockets of easy run areas.
Well the legendary weapons are supposed to be ‘rare’ and hard to get. That said, there’s no motivation towards pursing them, imo other than the few hardcore ‘visual’ folks out there.
The whole Orrian/no hearts/3 zone thing was supposed to be a living (joke semi-intended) area to draw guilds. It has unfortunately fallen (another joke there) flat.
Ignore the name
There is a sizable difference between someone calling themselves AdolfH or AdolfHIT (which is still in very bad taste) and an entire guild running around with the name kitten Slayer/KKK
Sure it’s likely a bunch of kitten kids ‘getting away with it’ and giggling to themselves but that sort of crap should be squashed.
Had ANet jumped on it immediately, that article wouldn’t have had that portion in it and X number of readers would have been LESS upset.
All aside from the fact that its socially offensive. I don’t stand on the proverbial soapbox but if a company won’t/can’t address something like that decisively, I won’t play it. If I and the other 5K people like me don’t play it, there are 5K less potential gem sales on any given day.

(Human Street Rat) Personal Story: Breaking Blade (Death, death, more death)
Posted by: Dignarus.3794
I would point out that I did this (I chose to let Quinn die and save the people) 8 or 9 days ago and had no issues. Almost easy.
I went in at level 10 today on a Guardian (admittedly I could have had better weapons) and died 3xs. Ok. I am patient. I went back out and got to level 13, all armor was 9-12 and my weapons were level 10-11. I had a mace/shield + scepter/torch. Started with the scepter combo to get some fast DPS on Doc Howler and then switched to mace/shield. Popped every block and heal and still died. She is hitting for a TON too much damage.
2nd time around I kind of backed her into a corner and dodge rolled back and forth ASAP. I actually died and got her as I went down. (I popped the F1 to set fire to her just before I died and got her with the DoT.) Then of course Pete came in and died with a whimper. Doc Howler needs toning down, imo. That early in the storyline it will turn people off, I think.
The first time around Trahearne didn’t bother me initally but his ‘This will not end well’ started getting on my nerves (though once I hit Orr, I totally agreed with him).
After seeing that I am going to have to tolerate him again on my 2nd and 3rd passes (2 remaining Orders) I feel like I should just cry, or buy a lawn l mower and prove Tra right…
I got all three but it was a real surprise. Like opening a huge present I had been staring at for weeks before Christmas, only to find socks…in a great big wad of newspapers.
The music at the end is fantastic.
I did the 2xs. The first I had him at maybe 20% and got hit m by the shooting orbs of his ghost minions, which you can dodge/jump over. (I believe I took to using my GS at the time they popped, dodging the first few orbs and then doing a Leap of Faith to get close and force them to disappear).
The 2nd time it was just run and hack, hack and run. Tediously time consuming. That was the real point of frustration the 1st time around. Oh no…..the time lost….
Does it matter if you do the personal story? Or can you just skip it? From what I’m reading it only gets worse for elementalists.
You can’t skip sections but you can elect to not do the personal story. I am at that point as I noted in my earlier post. I’ll do up through 59 so I can get the 400pt scroll for guild influence (maybe) but the rest is ….no. I’d rather grind the levels and/or do DEs.
Bugger. Well if it’s happening to multiples, it is likely game software or at the very least game software/personal software combined.
Hope there is a fix.
Basically the title say it all. When combat ends, I am not dropping from combat approximately 20% of the time. I don’t heal, I can’t change traits/slot skills, and can’t interact with things like a Vista ‘view’.
I have to log to character select screen to break the combat. Has only been happening today since I came to the Bloodtide Coast, a few hours ago.
I’ve logged on and off to the desktop several times to make sure the client didn’t just need a reset.
I thought the Sorrowful Sound PoI on (on, in or under) the island with the puzzle, popped when you went up top, where the chest is. I’ve been up and run all over the top 2Xs now and nothing. I can see the PoI very vaguely on the map but can’t get it to even say ‘Undiscovered Point of Interest’ on mouseover. I’ve tried all 3 levels on the map.
Did it get changed? Any help most appreciated.
Oh, hm. I’ll try moving to a 40-50 zone and test the waters.
TYVM for the info.
I hit level 80 a bit ago and then crafted my nice level 80 armor. Now, money is a bit thin. I figured I would go back to the starter areas and clear a couple of maps and get some drops worth selling or salvaging.
I had thought drops for an 80 should be level 70+ stuff even if it was just vendor junk. All I am getting for grey, white, blue or green items are lvl 1-15.
Did they change the drops for the 80+ characters going back to early zone?
If anyone can assist with my confusion, it would be appreacited.
I do get about 2/3s of a standard $$ reward when I do a DE. (1.8Silver in Orr and 1.2-ish in a level 1-15 zone)
TY in advance.
What is the respawn timer on nodes? Would like to figure out a ‘circuit’ particularly for some of the grouped nodes in Orr.
Gossamer scraps – Do they drop? I read several posts here and thought it sounded like they were a salvage ‘special’ (call it a critical salvage).
TY in advance for any help
1st try, endless wipe of party. I think if the warband ever survived the 1st ambush it would be alright. 2nd try, OMG! Lucky. I got through it….and the NPCs were bugged. 3rd try, dying, dying, dying and the 4 mobs at the mouth keep respawning whenever you run in or run away.
I don’t complain often but I am truly surprised that ANet is allowing this to continue. Give us an option to bypass this quest or autocomplete it going in. This is one third of all the potential ‘storyline’ and a serious game breaker, I would think for some.
