I can’t exactly grasp what I am feeling and why but GW2 feels extremely shallow to me.

We’re talking about a game with little to no difficulty in the open world. We’re talking about a game where most skills are useless, clumsy or balanced for pvp, which makes them feel underwhelming and unsatisfying to use in PvE. We’re talking about a game that still has repetitive grinds just as much as any other MMO, just with cosmetics instead of more powerful items. We’re talking about a game that forces you to go into jumping puzzles to complete map achievements, and then had a kitten bad game engine that puts invisible barriers and invisible ground everywhere you jump into.

I can go on, but GW2 isn’t exactly the champion of “fun” games.

Thank you. Independent of the thread, this summed up the issues of GW2 quite succinctly.

Show me another mmorpg with such unique things to do outside of crafting and combat? These things are not that bad, yes the jump puzzles sometimes are a bit much but beyond that it is not as flawed as people make it out to be, they have fixed it over time and made it better.

Guildwars 2 has great activities. The world is amazing, the puzzles, everything. The problem IMO is the reward for the activities. There is no thrill. Everything is linear. You know you can do X activity and get Y reward. There is (almost) no OMG I JUST GOT Z REWARD INSTEAD OF Y REWARD. Y reward most often is a currency you farm for 10 years so you can upgrade the color and shape of your shirt.

It sounds like OP is playing the wrong game…
WoW is that way —-————>

I really dislike your mentality. This is the main mentality of the Guildwars 2 fan boys. It is even worse on Reddit. You seem to think that if someone is attacking what YOU like they should just leave the game, instead of thinking and helping them to make the game also right for them. It isn’t just one person having this feelings, there are many. Hell, I even left the game for 2 years because of this. Those could have been 2 years where I spent money in the gem store and supported the game.

No we won’t leave. I will be vocal about what I dislike and I will stay until I can’t enjoy the game anymore.

You’re fine to do that, but going off your posts on this thread (especially that “needs to be a king” one), I sincerely hope that a lot of the things you’re asking for never happen. It fundamentally goes against a lot of what myself and many other players enjoy about this game. I apologize if that comes across as rude, but for me, it’d be like if Fromsoft released a patch that made all of Dark Souls 3 easier (fundamentally going against something I love about a game).

Glad you’re still enjoying the game, but that you also seem to realize that it doesn’t need yo be the only thing you play.

Thank you for your comment. I totally understand the way you and others feel about the game. I just hope with enough brainpower we can find some kind of compromis that is good for both parties. I am afraid that the Fashion oriented gameplay is too niche. Ofcourse there exist many profitable niches in the world but I am not sure if the niche GW2 attracts is enough to sustain the game far after the coming expansion. Though this is just my speculation and I do not have any data about player base and profitability etc.

I did some more thinking and I think that being equals is not fun. Guild Wars 2 tries to give everybody the same opportunities. This is boring. I remember playing a MMORPG called Cabal Online. I used to farm a spot for hours and hours. Why? Because I knew that spot could drop one of the most powerful weapons in game, that only a handful of people have. Guild Wars 2 lacks the possibility to be more powerful than everybody else. You can be more ’ skilled’ but IMO there is not that much skill involved in playing Guild Wars 2, there is not enough build diversity to facilitate this type of gameplay. This is just some speculation, though. I am just trying to think about WHY this type of gameplay is boring for me and apparently for OP and WHY we want something more.

tl:dr: being equals is not fun, the fun is in being different, there has to be a king and someone who dreams to someday become that king. I think.

There are already many ways of being “different” in GW2. Including getting one of the very rare items, they just don’t make you more powerful than everyone else.

You are absolutely right. I ment power specific items, my bad.

Would be a really cool mastery! Though, maybe some nodes should give even more rewards then rich nodes and should be guarded by really strong monsters.

Why are there so many useless items in game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

When I do fractals I come out with dozens of blue and green items that get instantly salvaged. My question is: why do these items exist? Why doesn’t the game directly drop the salvaged items? I never used one of those items, personally.

Love this topic btw. I really think this is the CORE problem with GW2. I also think that this is the CORE problem in why the game is not more popular. My God, what a beautiful game it is. The world, the combat, the music, almost everything…. except the Fashion Designer-ish focus and lack of proper itemization.

I think the mastery system should expand on offering class combat skills. We have too few skills at the moment to use and I would love to grind and grind and grind to have more choice in combat skills. Why do I think this will work? I think combat skills are similar to gear in that they are linked with being powerful and becoming more powerful when acquiring more combat skills. If you want to take this idea to the next level make it possible for us to customize the looks of the combat skills. That is a true Fashion Wars. Customizing the looks of the combat skills, the colors, the moves etc. I don’t want to be a fashion designer I want to be a powerful soldier.

Just an idea though and only my opinion your opinions may vary and I understand that your opinions are just as valid as my opinion.

I totally agree with you and I am on the verge of quitting because of this reason.

All you do in this game is collect crafting mats and lame skins. I don’t understand why skins are the replacement of the more traditional gear grind. Itemization is IMO extremely lacking and there is almost no chance to drop something useful. I am forced in leveling crafting to 500 so I can make weapons that drop leafs on the ground.

Sigh. I guess this game is not for me.

Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Dindin.2378

To expand on my post, progression is not the only thing lacking from the game. There is no rarity. Everything is obtainable and crafting is not the same as in other MMORPG’s. There is no excitement when killing a mob to drop a really unique item. Yes you can drop precursors, but I do not think these are enough. Maybe its tied to the lack of progression. If Legendary Weapons would REALLY be Legendary I would understand. But they are not, everybody is walking around with them. They have mediocre stats and do not make you all that powerful. There is no prestige or status left anymore with having one.

Dindin.2378

OP, I totally agree with you.

For now I am enjoying the world and I just unlocked the Mastery system what feels like progression to me. Even more meaningful than Gear progression. I hope they expand on this part of the game.

I totally understand you coming from MMORPG’s where being the most powerful was the most important goal. I do think that this is a good goal and that Guild Wars 2 is immensely lacking in this area. Everybody seems to defend the casual nature of the game but the customer is not always right. I think this game would have much more appeal if the progression aspect was much more apparent.

This is just my opinion though but I do think that it is holding the game back.

Dindin.2378

Awesome game – really – but I just can’t stand the lack of progression anymore. What progression? I mean skill progression. We unlock all weapon skills at lower levels and are “stuck” with them till level 80. Traits and skill points are good – but offer no solution.

My feedback would be to open up all weapons to all classes. Most likely that this is already discussed many times. In that case I would like to know what Anets plans are in this area?

I just can’t loggin anymore the skills are so repetitive and there is so little diversification.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

positive:

- pure awesome
- totally addicted

negative:

- hearts are getting repetitive
- feel really sad that crafting is not profitable and therefore i refuse to craft
- feel sad that pvp is utterly dissapointing
- wvwvw feels like a giant orgy – and not the good type
- feeling sad that there is nothing desirable to farm for (this is my main issue with the game). would love to farm for an epic mount to drop, a weapon item that only 200 people in game have, a very rare backpiece etc.

LOL, minis are the biggest scam of GW2, they rip so much of your money by selling nothing. Gratz GW2!

it started really boring… but the last few days it has been a blast!
the quaggan story line was just awesome… #bad ice
then i got to lv 46 and experienced the battle of claw island… that was just EPIC
i wish more of the hearts were like the battle of claw island… just awesome!
further… the zoning of the personal stories (while i understand the technical reasons behind it) is really lame, takes away from the immersion and cheapens the experience…

i look forward to the rest of the personal story line!

PvE & WvW: Would you sPvP if rewarded badges of honor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dindin.2378

no, i would pvp and wvwvw if the maps were accesible via the “open world” and had an influence on the world and pve setting. this could be achieved via pve based rewards attained via pvp but it would not be enough… the pvp and wvwvw minigames should be more attached to the gw2 world… otherwise… fail

Why do you not play sPvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dindin.2378

Dindin.2378

pvp in gw2 is like playing an other game. it is not connected to the main world and neither connected to pve. i have the same problem with wvwvw. pvp and wvwvw are just minigames not attached to the “real world”.

the first time i logged in to try pvp and wvwvw was enough to make my conclusion. just not being able to use your pve gear and weapons was enough of a statement for me. if i want to play a competitive pvp game i’ll play a shooter…. no tx gw2…. connect it to the real world or gtfo.
