Why would you want every class to have one great solo build?
Then everyone would be the same. It would be like playing World of Warcraft.
Why don’t we just make all characters exactly the same. then.
You can think whatever you like, doesn’t matter to me.
Simply WvW has to many variables for me to consider it worthy of being worried about a single spec that can dominate.
Now if you are talking equal geared characters running then we have something. Feel free to show me a video of a class going 1vs3 with all the characters with equal gear and skill, then I’ll agree with you that we need a go to spec.
Sounds to me like you just want an easy “Iwin” button.
WvW isn’t something I’ll ever base a build or skill around.
Good build for what exactly?
I think we have several good builds.
I’m so glad the developers don’t agree with you on the one good build thing.
No way would I want to play a class like that.
Yeah, you’re right. Warrior utilities (especially signets) are actually useful and have half the cooldown of necromancer utilities.
Fun fact: on average Necromancer utilities have 4.5s less CD than Warrior utilities.
Fun Fact: on average Necromancer utilities have double (100% longer) the cast times as Warrior utilities.
Fun Fact: on average Necromancer utility signets have 57.5s longer cooldowns than warrior.
Warrior signets are horrible after about 60 due to scaling.
Any warrior at 80 who runs with all their signets up is just gimping themselves.
Simply feels to me even on my luckiest I only add 4, feels like an internal cooldown is all. Regardless, the other buffs are still rather necessary to be on equal footing with any other class.
This is where I totally disagree.
I think Necromancer is just about perfectly balanced. If anything, classes need to be brought to where the Necromancer is, not taking us to where they are.
I feel like I’m one of the few that actually think the Necromancer profession is amazing the way it is.
I absolutely love it the way it is.
I don’t disagree with you that all classes are 100% viable.
Did run last night Where we had Engineer, 2 Rangers, Thief, Necromancer and it went great.
Necromancer was out “tank” so to say as she seemed to have agro most of the time and did a outstanding job.
Though if you were to make a character that PUGs want mostly, you are best off going Guardian or Warrior. There is still a large amount of players who think you have to take only certain classes.
Warrior or Guardian is your best bet.
That or you can find a guild that likes to run a lot of dungeons together and they don’t care what class you are. That is what I did.
What I think people are missing is that people were randomly contacting him in game and it wasn’t what he wanted.
I fail to see where it is only a PvP discussion as it does affect PvE.
Of course you probably just want to whine, so I’ll leave you to that.
Mesmers remain viable after this patch. That’s the kittening difference.
You must be speaking of ONLY pvp because in PvE , Warriors are the most viable class around.
I love my Banner warrior.. no complaints here!
I think it is great. For solo PvE I can’t say there is a class I like more.
Seems like a good patch so far.
@Coinin -
How do you know what your DPS is and what the warriors DPS is that you’ve run with?
I personally was more interested in the viability of a p/p in pve only, not sure what the OP wanted to know.
I came here looking for information on this exact topic just because I love the way it plays.
I’ve been using Takarazuka’s build to level and its been amazing for pve leveling. I tell anyone who will listen to check it out.
I just use a Dagger/Warhorn + Staff power build and I kill stuff so fast its crazy.
I suck at dodging.
Just looking for a few opinions here. No need to tell me to l2p or that I suck, I know that already =D
I was curious what people felt the most forgiving class was for those that are weak at dodging.
Made a new warrior today – purely for pvp purposes and leveling again.
Can’t help it. I like this class. So far, I’m enjoying my simple long bow warrior. I didn’t know that you can combine two skills into almost one shot. like skill 3/4 or skill 3/2 or f1/4 f1/2 3/5 f1/5. Pretty fun.
I’ve always ran as a Rifle / Long Bow warrior. Why people might ask..
Simple. I love Archers. In real life I’m an excellent Archer and I love the idea of playing on in a Fantasy world.
Why don’t I play a Ranger you ask? I hate pets. Plain and simple.
Maybe that is why this patch doesn’t bother me like some others. I’ve never had a group complain with my Ranged Warrior so far.
EDIT : I actually rerolled myself today on Eredon Terrace since my brother plays there. Started a Human Warrior that will focus on Rifle/Long Bow just like my Asura did.

I absolutely hate using this term but as it has already been said..
some people just need to l2p.
Those of you wondering about Bas and his minions.
Why not contact him and run a dungeon with him?
I’ve been using Minions for the first time and I see no issue.
Not sure what you guys are really complaining about.
Note : this is in regular PvE leveling, not in dungeons or anything like that. I feel pretty much invincible with minions.
Yes they are, there are three to four different builds. Check the guides up top. I wrote one for them. They are viable for everything except Fractals (Agony!)
I was trying to find the one you wrote Bas but I’m not seeing it.
Can you link to it?
Last post i’m going to make here, i might aswell talk to a wall.
This is the most valid thing you have stated on the forums in the past three days.
Ha!
Nice to see mostly positive feedback here.
A good change from the depressing complaining we see so often.
Overall these look good. I’m not sure how much they affect my build personally (Power D/WH+Staff) but it has me thinking I might want to give MM a shot.
We will adjust and be fine.
This, in my opinion, was merely a crutch for many. Time to adapt.
I have no issues with this patch at all.
I’ll still be running around with my Rifle/Long Bow build in place and having fun.
Cheapest way to get bags is play fractals. The superior runes of holding make crafting these not worthwhile.
Some people don’t like doing fractals though or even dungeons.
I’ve searched but really haven’t found anything so I’m going to post here hoping you can help me out.
My brother started playing a Necromancer and I’ve converted him to it full time. He has fallen in love with the Staff and Wells.
What he wants is to use them both in a Power Build. I’m not really sure how to accomplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dagger/Warhorn + Staff Power build is what I’ve been using for leveling and honestly, it has been easier than my warrior. Not even close.

That is where I found the build.
Elementalist d/d is fine.
The main problem with being concerned with damage is falling in love with the big numbers, which seems to happen to a lot of people in this game.
They are a unique race from all other games. I suppose you could lump them in with Elves if you wanted to but overall they are unique to me.
That and the dark skin looks amazing as a Necro.
7/10 mainly because I find it funny given the current perception of Thieves.
Mine is one I made for humor reasons : Necromancer named Fungus Spawn.
Thanks for the replies! I’ve never tried that dagger/horn with staff playstyle. Sounds intriguing. Is this what they call a “Well” build? I should look into how to trait and gear for it….
I use a build like this and leveling has been insanely easy.
This is the build I’ve been using..

I think ranged damage is on par with melee damage if you look at it in terms of damage per second.
With melee I notice I’m moving around a lot and dodging a lot. There are times when whatever I’m attacking just isn’t in range of melee and I’m running to meet up with it.
With range, I still have to move here and there but for the most part it is like steady and consistent damage.
Yes melee has the bigger numbers but when you take everything into account I would bet the two end up very close it total damage over the course of many “boss-type” encounters.
I like the build.
The main reason I’ve ventured into the Rifle/LB set up is that I really (REALLY) struggle with dodging. I’m not sure it is lag or just my lack of skill. I venture to guess its a lack of skill, I’m not one for blaming stuff like lag) I’ve used different melee based builds and most of the time I’ve been on the ground waiting for someone to pick me up.
So far I haven’t had any complaints from anyone when I have been running with the Rifle/LB
I like the Rifle + Long Bow
I figured as much. She says she just gets all messed up when switching weapons around. I had her using a mace/focus and a staff. She would get mixed up as to which weapon she had out.
The Cleric’s gear set up you talk about is something like what she wants I think. I’ll have to ask her when she gets home from work, but that seems like the kind of thing she was talking about.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I’m posting here to ask for my wife because she is scared that “everyone will yell at me” if she posts this question.
She plays a guardian and loves the staff. (Sadly my horrible mind came up with so many lame jokes when she made that comment to me) Anyways, I’m looking around for a build that the focus is mostly on the staff and not switching weapons. I understand that she won’t be at her best by not switching weapons but this is how she wants to play.
Any suggestions for her?
Well I appreciate the talk here and the replies.
I’ve decided that I’m just going to play my Necro because I really enjoy it. If others don’t want me in their group for whatever reason then I’ll move on and find someone who does.
Any suggestions on a more range style of play?
Would it be best to go with Minion Mastery for that?
Oh and the other response I get is…
“Just make a Warrior or Guardian, everyone loves you then”
I recently just picked this game up and started with the Necromancer. Previously I have played EverQuest and World of Warcraft in terms of MMOs. I played a Necromancer in EQ and a Warlock in WoW. So as you can see, it is just the kind of thing I enjoy in fantasy gaming.
Now on to my question…
In the general /map talk the last two nights I’ve seen quite a few negative comments towards Necromancers in terms of dungeon groups. People saying they would just kick a Necro before doing a dungeon with them. When I have asked why someone would say this, the only response I get is.. “Well, they suck and are useless.”
So my question is.. is this something I should be concerned about? I’m playing my Necro as a power build, focus on a dagger/warhorn + staff.
