Cynkk (pronounced Sync/Sink) is my Asura Necromancer. (He’s my main)
There isn’t a big tale to how I came up with it. I just wanted an Asura sounding name……the realization that it sounded like Sync (a very tech sounding word just like the Asura) actually came after I was messing around with Asura names. It wasn’t really my intention, it just fell into place. I’m very happy with it.
Right now it’s one male and two female…..although the male one is my main and the two female ones I haven’t played much and are just nameholders for when I get around to properly making them.
I’ve noticed a lack of dynamic events as I move into higher level areas.
Timberline Falls has to be my least favourite area because of this……and really I would say it’s because more than half of the events I came across were bugged and didn’t do anything.
I know this is something they’ll eventually fix but it made for a very unenjoyable journey through the map.
Not really so worried about levelling since I’m at level 75 right now.

There is one moment where my male Asura is buying from a Merchant he’ll say something like either “This is Important” or “This is Imported”
I’m guessing it’s the first one but considering it’s a merchant he’s interacted with I’m not sure. Maybe he has a thing against imported goods?
- “You’re dumb. You’ll die, and you’ll leave a dumb corpse.”
Haha, I love this one. I heard my Ranger say it once, but it seems my Necromancer says it a bit more often. I giggle every time I hear it.
Never heard my Necromancer say that. Is there some specific skill it’s attached to?

I’ve never been rezzed by an npc.
I’m surprised to hear that’s what they should be doing.
I just did this mission today and everything went along fine. Was it recently fixed or was I just lucky?
It was actually my favourite mission so far, I just hope this artifact we found is actually going to be of use later on in the story. Not like that magic sword we might as well have never found.
Hylek
Tengu
Largos
After those three I think I would like to see some new creations.
Although the Dwarves, Mursaat and Seer are interesting to think of as playable races….they’re supposed to be more or less extinct so they don’t seem likely.
I completely agree with him and I hope the devs will give his video a watch. (and hopefully take some of what he said to heart)
I’m highly enjoying the majority of the game except the personal story.
Logan dies?
Sad isn’t something I think about much during the personal story. It’s more like “oh yeah, that happened……..ok then lets go”
Along with what I mentioned earlier, I believe there was going to be a chronomancer profession in the original guild wars at some point but it got cut out because of Guild Wars 2.
I think a race based around the concept of Chronomancers could be very interesting, like this picture: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-06/art/gwe-concept-chronomancer1.jpg
Hylek, absolutely the Hylek. I’ve wanted them ever since I learnt about their way of life and also their animations helped. I really want to play as a Hylek. More than a Tengu even. (although I really want Tengu too)
Right now for me it’s the Hylek and Tengu. Followed by the Largos even though I know very little about them. Those are my big three, they’re also very different from each other.
As much as I love the Quaggan and Skritt, I can’t really see them working as playable races.
There’s also another race I would love to play as but I figure it has less chance to become playable than a Wurm because they’re supposed to be extinct now. (The Seer)

I can’t stand them personally. Although that might be because they completely dominate particular maps and leave room for little else. In every human zone it seems to be all about the Centaurs….I mean I know they’re at war with them but still.
The Centaurs and the Dredge drive me batty. (Probably moreso the Dredge now that I’ve been to Dredgehaunt Cliffs)
How family orientated are the Norn? Because in most of the stuff we’ve seen Norn tend to live alone as adults, yet random dialogue in Hoelbrak suggests they do get married.
I have come across lodges in the wild that houses Norn families. So it definitely happens. I haven’t come across anything that suggested the Norn were adverse to starting families at some point in their lives.
One group of npcs that really stood out while I was adventuring was a Norn father seeking refuge in a Durmand Priory outpost with his two daughters because his home had been burned down by the Dredge and his wife murdered by them.
Needless to say that entire map has soured my opinion of the Dredge and it wasn’t that rosy to begin with.

Maybe this is just because I’ve only so far met with them in Lion’s Arch and played the story mode for Ascalonian Catacombs but I get this bad feeling that all or most of the dungeons are going to center around this group squabbling with each other like children. That doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time.
I haven’t read the books but from what I’ve gathered it feels to me like they’re anger is aimed at the wrong places. None of them made bad decisions, they just made decisions.
Caithe seems like the only sane and rational person in the group. How are these guys supposed to be the heroes?

I think it’s just junk that you can stockpile and sell to vendors for a few silvers. Sort of like unusual treasures and baubles that you sell off.
I haven’t seen any other use for them, they’re the first to go whenver I need space in my inventory.
Right now if you pay around 26 silver you get 100 gems which I think is great value. I was quite surprised really…..I’m still waiting for it to take a sudden downward spiral and end up having to spend 1 gold to get 5 gems.
The only reason I haven’t gone on a gem store spree is because I don’t really like anything on sale….aside from some inventory/bank slot upgrades.
While I like that dynamic events can help you with renown hearts I agree it would be best if you could talk to heart npcs and not miss out on anything if you already completed the heart. I feel the same way when it comes to scouts, if I have completed all the hearts I can’t hear what they have to say anymore which is a shame. I always feel like the scout I can no longer talk to is saying something really funny or interesting that I can no longer see. The way they talk has a good way of developing your sense of the area from a lore point of view.
Depending on what direction you’re coming from you can easily end up finding the hearts before you find the scouts that are attached to them.
This is bothering me quite a bit actually.
I should be rewarded with items that I can actually use. There isn’t much else to say.
In my opinion the Asura zone Metrica Province is the most fun of the starter zones. I also picked an Asura as my main so I guess they just fit me like a glove. Caledon Forest is an incredibly close second though. I think it’s the tropical landscape of both starting zones that seals the deal.
My least favourite is the Human zone, Queensdale. It’s just so dull compared to the other zones and it feels like it has less dynamic events in it. The other zones feel much more enchanting and catch my interest far easier.
My ranking would be:
1. Metrica Province (Asura)
2. Caledon Forest (Sylvari)
3. Wayfarer Foothills (Norn)
4. Plains of Ashford (Charr)
5. Queensdale (Human)

I would love to see them introduce new content at some point that brought you back to your roots and addressed the initial choices you made again. Although really I would like them to address the current personal story in some way.
It’s things like this that honestly makes me feel like I rather we didn’t have choices in the personal story….because it results in a story that feels stitched together like Frankenstein rather than one that’s been carefully crafted and flows perfectly. Characters get cut out abruptly, the transition from one story choice to another is jarring and it all ends up feeling more like a collection of short stories rather than an ongoing adventure.
Now it has started picking up around Claw Island but it feels a bit on the late side.
Does anyone else feel characters in the personal story get thrown away too quickly?
It feels like I have no chance to get to know characters because either they die or the story arc ends and they get swept under a carpet never to be seen again. (I’m not counting the home instance here)
Without getting too much into spoilers there are points in the storyline where you’re fighting the undead and I think it would be nice if characters from earlier story arcs would show up and fight alongside you, even if they didn’t have a major role. (Maybe just a sentence or a charm/dignity/ferocious conversation like with Tegwen/Carys while taking back claw island)
Now I haven’t finished the personal storyline quest yet so maybe something like this does happen at some point…..but I’m not so sure.
It feels like a major shame that the characters you meet in your opening sequence (and afterwards) can’t have any role at all (not necessarily just fighting) alongside you in future story arcs. It seems like a wasted opportunity and makes a huge chunk of the personal story feel meaningless. Like you were just messing about until you got to claw island.
Everything else in the game I’m having so much fun with…..but the personal story has left me feeling a bit cold. It’s satisfying in terms of combat and difficulty but when it comes to actual story I’m struggling to care about anything that happens.

I’ve been using a Scepter/Dagger weapon combination for the majority of my playthrough. I occasionally switch over to my staff whenever there’s a DE in a tight space where it’s easier to force mobs to walk over marks.
I started playing with minions but I’ve been moving away from them slowly, I only really use them underwater now.
For the utility skills I’ve been using Well of Blood for healing. It makes sense to have something that not just heals myself but also others around me.
Then I’m using Spectral Wall which is a wall that gives allies protection and makes enemies vunerable. I like using it because it’s a two sided skill and it’s really the only way my necro can buff others besides healing them.
I use Signet of the Locust mainly for the speed boost. The only time I actually use the skill is by accident.
Lastly I use Radiation Field and Summon D Series Golem (as my elite) which are both Asura skills. However they’ve served me well. (So much so I didn’t realize Radiation Field was a racial skill until I checked it up now)
Oh and whenever I want to move somewhere fast I’ll use the Spectral Walk skill (which gives a speed boost) and cancel it at the last second so I don’t teleport backwards.
I think anet need to make players more aware of the fees involved in the trading post. I’ll admit I only found out about the costs after I noticed I wasn’t getting as much money as I thought I was getting. That really isn’t how people should be finding out.
When players open the trading post pages there should be a tutorial pop up telling you about listing fee and the 10% charge on sold items.
Although this particular problem might also be because mobs give out weapons and armour to players like adults give kids candy at Halloween.
I’ve seen one Charr Mesmer since launch. Was that you?
I haven’t gotten around to it yet since I’m focused on my Asura main right now….but I plan to play the other races eventually and I’m considering going with a Charr Mesmer. That video a while back with all the Charr Mesmers had a part to play in that.
I come across Charr and Norn a lot less often than I come across Humans, Sylvari and Asura.
Although that might be because I played an Asura and have been travelling from the left of the map towards the right where the Charr and Norn are. So if Charr and Norn players are doing the same (right towards left) than it would make sense that I haven’t met many of them.
As for professions I would say I come across Engineers and Mesmers less often than any of the other professions.
The problem with picking the underdog is, what if who the underdog is changes? Personally I think it’s far more reliable to just go with what you actually like.
