I understand that GS is in good performance as designed as a “defensive weapon” and same to short bow and axe(good to PvP mode). But of you go to wvw or spvp you’d find that longbows are still overused rather than axes and short bows(I personally use sword and lb for damage). Hard to belive anet is giving rather so few balance in coming up fix. Even in PvP mode, does anet rly think rangers are “close to perfect” ?
On the other hand, it is quite sad to see you guys mention that “pve mode balance isn’t important to anet”, yes, sad but true. People say longbows is " quite done fixing" but its damage is still no match to worriors’s GS ,mesmers sword or thieves dagger. Not even that suicidal ranger sword can even the differences. As mentuoned by others, short bow, axe, GS are all for PvP or wvw, then what weapons really left for rangers to do pve?
Considering raid might come up in the future, i’m afraid with current performance, rangers will become new public-hater, in all modes.
People hate rangers pewing, but rangers can only pewing to meet their best, which is still underperformed. Pathetic and ironic, isn’kitten
Well English is not my first language and I typed all these from my phones.
So apology ahead if I typed funny language.(oh also appreciate my android auto-spell function :p)
Just read the coming up new ready-up note. Apparently anet isn’t very happy about current rangers situation for "too many rangers are using longbows ",maybe anet is planning longbows nerf in the future, I don’t know…
On the other hand, other class players have been complaining rangers over-use their longbows in almost every mode of gameplay, they are pewpewpew-ing everywhere and anytime. Some even, complaining that is op.
Well, what I am try to say is. Despite that longbow is iconic weapon of rangers and so many players do enjoy using them. There is also a critical fact is: some of weapon options to rangers are very underpowered, yet some are badly flawed. As a class, ranger is far from fixed as a decent class, don’t mention being " overpowered".
For pve:
Great sword is just a joke, the only use to me is use swoop to catch up boss train and block to deflect attack to stay ooc. Maul was improved, but compare to warriors 30-40k damage and short CD. It is still stay as a joke.
Short bow and main hand axe: not bad improvement, but sorry gw2 is not friendly to dot build unless you’d like to carry two set of gears to support your pve activities. And short bows aoe? Way do I have to choose it when lb can do better in both single target and aoe? Main hand axe has similar problem.
Off hand axe and horn and torch: they are OK so no comments, the point is, when your have no decent main hand weapons, what’s value of them?
Daggers, maybe it is only pvp ? Sorry when I do boss train, what I need is running a lot ,so only GS or horn. And in dungeon, extra dodge and poison aren’t needed alot, I rather prefer off hand axe to improve damage.
Sword, probably the best alternative option to longbows, and probably most-hated weapon in ranger class. Anet still didn’t fix the rooting problem(as always) of #1 skill, so when rangers enjoy its decent damage they also suffer from helplessness to dodge attacks.and #2 skill is still retreat>leap order. If you want to do boss run sword #2 can’t help you at all which leaving you to swoop all the way in the wild.(unless you’d like to do pure melee ranger), which narrows down its use.
OK,so short bow and axe are dot oriented and have funny aoe: not good. Great sword is defensive weapon and damage is just a joke, its only use is swoop around to help rangers not to fallen behind too far from warriors and eles at boss run. Like sword? It helps rangers to kill both bosses and themselves very fast. So what should we do? Longbows? We use longbows too much and anet isn’t very happy about that…
OK, just to sum up: indeed nowadays rangers rely on longbow too much: but it is not because it is op, well just opsite, compare to short bow,axe (main),greatsword and sword. Longbow is only one “normal” weapon left for rangers to pick.
On the other hand, apart from weapons, rangers are far from “done fixing”:
Useless shouts
Awkward pets system
Hard-to-use spirits (both active and passive abilities)
Weak traps
…
Do I have to list them all? And I am done suggesting my ideas in previous CDI post,so here not to mention them again.
Currently players in the LFG system is heavily biased. If you are rangers using lfg, you get kicked at first place (for pewing too much I guess) or you are asked NOT to use longbow! Personally, I prefer that suicidal sword as my second option. Because that with that funny damage greatsword axe or short bow. I will get kicked again (for low damage). Trust me. It can happen anytime.
Now let me ask you:
" why there is too many rangers using longbow"
First: edit that post (the pencil icon at bottom right of your post) and remove his email. That is part of his login and is sensitive information.
Have him read this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Not-Getting-Our-E-mails-Hotmail-Yahoo-Gmail-Comcast to see if it’s one of the problems listed there.
If not, he should still be able to contact support. It’s not necessary to log into the forum to do that. He goes to: Support-top of page. Submit a request-top of page. Obviously he won’t have all the information they request. He fills in what he can. In addition, there are two drop down areas that require an answer.
thx bro that’s very kind of you.
Hi:
my friend bought gw2 online, but he didn’t receive the serial code as he expected.
he waited like 2 hours, checked all junk box and no, there was no email sent from anet.
and i also browse this issue over Internet, it said that probably due to ISP problem that banned gw2 email or some. but I am not certain.
now he is desperate and only thing I can do for him is ask help over here.
can anyone please help my friend, please?
I think this is only information I can provide….

take a look at ranger, just take one peek at ranger!
then you will know necros are not only one who straggle to be not hated.
I get your point, but that mesmer part isn’t accurate. Because everyone around me LOVE mesmer in every mode: wvw, pve, spvp, you name it. Mesmers have veil, feed back, time warp and portal, which provide great team support and they do very decent damage. and they just bug class in spvp (especially to new players).
and to rangers and necros? no they just no relationship to anet. when my guildies run dungeons, they just simply kick necros and rangers as long as they see the class icons pop in the screen. and many others did in LFG too. why? because these two classes are most hated and useless in many players’ mind. when you player this game as rangers and necros, you have to learn how to endure people’s insult to these classes. And I hardly see anyone complaining mesmers being bad.
let’s “believe” anet is undergoing some decent improvement for rangers after that CDI topic, well, only question is when they will carry out these changes… next patch or next expansion pack?
if the pet portrait change was on purpose, I have to say, it is DOWNGRADING…
Hmm..Ranger Pet River Drakes are supposed to be yellow. The other pic shows a Ranger Pet Marsh Drake (green). Although, I do see the wrong Special Ability on the Marsh Drake (it should be Insect Swarm).
Maybe you chose the wrong one, somehow?
well, I am dead sure that my pet are the same one, cos I never use marsh drake and my baby river drake does lightning breath special attack all the time. It just… … its portrait doesn’t seem ok, It was freshly green and healthy yesterday, and all the sudden, the portrait looked liked a zombie drake or some…
I have a baby river drake. I love it cos it looks stupidly cute…
however, maybe affected my the evil root I reckon, today it looked yellow and unhappy.
please tell my my baby drake isn’t sick, cos I need it for many battles, and if it is sick, please help me cure my pet.
thank you very much
The feature pack changes have nothing to do with the CDI, the changes from the CDI will only appear several months later, I’ll guess only in the Q4 2014~Q1 2015 we’ll see something from the CDI actually in game.
Well, the Fractal CDI was at the same time, and the Dredge Fractal was already changed. Though it is true. I think balancing a class is harder and requires more fine tuning. I expect the earliest change with season 2, if at all. The latest date I expect them to change anything is beginning of Q3 of 2014. So we will see when stuff happens.
However I think you are not giving the new traits any chance. Yes the Skirmisher one and the Beastmaster one are useless, buuuut Read the Wind is used in PvP metas, Poison Master is also used in some PvP and even some PvE builds and Survival of the Fittest is just genius. So I guess Poison Master and Read the Wind are somewhat okish and disputable, but Survival of the Fittest certainly is a very good and useful trait, depending on how and where you use it. However, there is no real PvE useable trait, that is true.
I agreed that poison potency grandmaster trait is kind of useful in pvp, however, considering rangers’ lb is so terrible, “read the wind” effect should be a effect by default, not a grandmaster trait (only personal idea) effect. rangers as bows masters should take some advantages using bows, but cost one grandmaster slot is way to waste. projectile traveling speed is mentioned in previous CDI and many believed it should be a default improvement.
On the other hand, rangers did good performance over PvP, but on PvE and WvW, those new traits don’t really help alot.
and also according to anet’s plan, they also have 2nd and 3rd classes for CDI after rangers, if we will receive improvement until Q4, then when the other two classes receive their improvement? their CDI discussion threads not even started…(poor necros and eles)
well, as a bow-lover, I’m just trying to express my feeling that how eager I wish to see improvement I’d like to see rangers will have. I know I made funny ideas, just pls don’t laugh at me too hard.
If I remembered well, months before we had a great discussion thread over ranger improvement at “profession balance”, many players had made great ideas and suggestions on how to improve ranger as most of players agreed that rangers aren’t in a proper place comparing other classes.
after that, we had “feature pack” which offer every class with six new grand master level traits. ofc, rangers also received some new traits and “minor” fixes.
well, my question is, is that all anet can do for rangers after what we had made a long discussion. because personally(only personally), those new traits aren’t that fancy and those fixes doesn’t quite help either, especially comparing warriors’ and mesmers’ new triats?
Or is there anything anet plan to improve rangers after CDI?
I expect latter…
anet didn’t learn ANYTHING from previous ranger CDI post, the projectile traveling speed should be improved by default not by a grandmaster trait and not only affect longbow and harpoon gun.
I’m sure we’ll also get other areas in the racial capitals. Especially with the upcoming Harvest Festival that sounds to be Charr-centric.
like the queen’s special invitation thingy….
well, I just believe no one just want to use that ship forever at wild, isn’kitten maybe move it to Lion’s arch when it restored would be nice? well, at least players can use banks, tp and stations while they can also have chat with others.
I took my pride of my new ranger look, however, for days, my friends keeps laughing at me for my “ugly” dress, until few hours ago, I just found out what happen to my characters.
Because in my eyes(pc), I looked like this:
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/141086/good_1.png
However, in their eyes, I looked like this:
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/141087/bad_1.png
And even worse, for certain map, this TA medium chest armor looked even worse:
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/141090/terrible.png
All these three cutscenes are from one computer, the third one even have yellow-ish thing all over armor, even on character’s face.
My friends told me what’s pulling the trigger: shaders setting, the problem is, for this armor (TA medium chest), higher shader setting gave worse visual quality, what even worse was, even character’s face has this yellow-ish annoying pattern.
Is it only the problem only happen on this TA armor (cos other players I can see were just fine with “high” setting)? if that so, is there any possibility to correct those strip-like pattern on armor? or is there any thing wrong with shader’s setting?
ps. I use mid-night fire to dye my arah boot(medium), it is supposed to be the darkest dye in game, but only thing I got is this dark blue effect ( as you can see on attachment), this problem also happened on many other armors, as the pure black dye only showed as dark blue, can someone tell me is there anything I can do to adjust it to absolut black on medium armor please?

some official comment would be nice
selfless potion and thoughtless potion are quite fun toys, but there are many bugs and restrictions.
it doesn’t work with other potions/toys
when my ranger enlarged (signet of wild), the effect is removed automatically.
changing maps remove the effect automatically
the potions can’t be used in fotm/dungeons
well, I just wish to know is anet going to fix all these issues? or just leave them be? for it is such a shame that these potions can’t be used properly.
Everquest had rangers, shamans, druids, and beast lords… this game only has one magical-nature-themed-pet-archer-class. We’re all in the same boat, the boat is leaking, and we need to stop arguing about what name is painted on the hull.
This is a good point.
Ranger is a lot more than just “the pet class”, yet that is where ANet has chosen to place the profession’s emphasis for whatever reason. In my opinion, our pet should be one aspect of the Ranger, not its defining characteristic.
That’s not to say that the pet mechanic should be removed, but it’s a bit disheartening that many of our utilities and traits revolve around our pet when there’s so much untapped potential elsewhere.
Can’t tell you how much I agree your opinion.I believe for rangers, pet supposed to be one of rangers’features, but not only one.Ranger as a profession should also be a:
SCOUT: revealing enemey on map (pvx, mainly wvw), detect invisible enemy for short time(pvp), long term camouflage out of battle(pvx) and spotting additional pve enemy information like weakness, HP or even skill cd(pve),group support
SKIRMISHER:mid-range combat, traps, mobile in combat,crowd-control ability and fast recovery.
ARCHER:(please this is very vital,I’d rather give up pets for keeping my bows)great archer, decent ranged damage, group support from away, acceptalbe aoe damage and range, burst skills, mobile, interact with pets
I actually have this wild thought, wild, I have to point this out: since there is no shape-shifting class so far,why not allow ranger to shape-shift animal form(whit their pets, real “rampage as one”.
well, I know that’s pretty much DRUID’s job and feature, but considering their was no druid and is no druid in gw and gw2, maybe ranger can do this, you know, gw2 featued ranger.
“X. Eagle Eye – Include shortbow. Provides 200 range and +5% damage on longbow and harpoon gun. (no range bonus for shortbow)”
Is it a typo that " Provides 200 range" thing? Because now it is +300 range.
To be frankly, I read the very first thread over and over again for past days, because one of the statements bothers me, the class Ranger Design Philosophy,
“The Ranger is a resilient profession that excels at skirmishing by drawing from nature to support themselves as well as their allies. Alongside their pet, they have some of the best single target and sustained damage that will whittle their opponents down.”
Well, to me, this statement is more like describing ENGINEER not ranger, and better yet, engineers do much better than rangers in terms of class functionality: they have tons of cc, healing skills to support them “wit their foes down”(except they "draw"power from “machines” instead of “nature”; in the meanwhile, engineers can also do better “sustained damage” for a long-haul fight for BOTH single and aoe targets ("alongside their tools ofc, not “pets”).
So, this is my question, are we becoming another engineer class? because engineer is more meet the ranger’s philosophy (except the “nature” and “pet” part, it is perfect to replace them with "technology"and “machine”).
Because for me, I do believe gw2 ranger is much more than a “skirmisher”, first we are great ARCHERS, yes I DO believe, as a class that can use both longbow and shortbow, we should be a “master archer” above all classes. then we are the SKIRMISHERS as the class philosophy mentions (except engineers do much better at this point). at last, we also supposed to be a great SCOUT , and I think this the biggest part which ranger different from other classes, at WvW ranger should ability to scout and detect incoming foes on map, or extra-range vision to detect foes, and expose invisible, so rangers can always find and report enemy players location in a certain-long range when other classes cannot reach ,for PvE mode, rangers also have ability to detect nearby foes/mobs on map. moreover, certain invisibility will also support ranger class to ( I reckon certain long cooldown skill will help) to become a competent “scout”

Allow pets to be stowed and boost the ranger’s DPS by 30%Goal of Proposal
To allow rangers to partake in the glory of zerker gear boss stacking! Our pets die even when fully micro mangaed, so give us the choice of not using them as a DPS source, and fold their DPS into the player.Proposed Functionality
Make stow pet permanent until recalled and not upon entering combat. Add a buff to the ranger while pet is stowed:
SOLO ARTIST “30% boost to damage”Associated Risks
Warriors will now beg to be buffed and rangers now are part of the meta.
not really my friend, apart from damage contribution, warriors also does better team support (banners) and higher resilient than rangers, even with 30% boost to damage. rangers are not first choice to many players.
I know that im out of topic here and not using the format proposal and i apologize for it ,but before posting any ideas about the ranger and having into consideration that this will be read by some dev ,i will like to ask something :
Would you ever (or have you) considered the removal of the pet ,knowing how borked the ai is ,and as anet says ,it can not be reworked because its tied to mob ai?
Or would you consider split the class in to two, ranger/beastmaster ,and rework the pet ai from the ground.
Again sorry for the offtopic and thx for any possible answer.
Removing the pet was something that was discussed in initial design of the class, but it is such an integral part of the Ranger’s design and philosophy.
There might be some ways that we can redesign the pet and it’s AI, but those are big projects. For the time being, we are happy to take any suggestions regarding the pet.
I can see your concern here but, the option to have the pet as such an integral part of the class is one of the largest faults of the class. Could it not be optional to have the pet as an option, basically if you spec wilderness survival your pet becomes a larger part of the class, if you choose to spec in something different to be more valuable to your group then either you don’t have the pet or it has minimal impact on the class.
That is completely valid feedback that I will relay to the designers. Thanks for taking the time to share it!
that’s what exactly wow does, the biggest difference between beastmaster and marksmanship and survival talent tree is beastmaster does more pet damage.
but please bear one in mind, only difference is how much damage and usefulness pet is between these 3 talent trees, but the pet survival ability are always same.
one of none balancing concerning suggestion.
rangers should have some interaction animations with certain pets for idle time. I know it is too much but, it would be lovely to see some of these happen.

rangers should have better supporting skill and more damage for two hanged weapons
goal of proposal
traps, aoe, shouts and weapons
proposal functionality
1. all traps can be activated by ranger in order to create field out of combat.
2. with trait, <skirmishing VIII Trapper’s Expertise>, traps can be throw 900 units.
3. all traps have base damage, snake traps should have each snake have damage, they will vanish in certain time or be killed.
4.longbow 4 skill barrage should affects 10 units.
5. All shouts need redesigned in order to be more useful, they should be providing more boons especially stability and might. current shouts are not too useful concerning their contribution to pve scenario and group support.
6.short bow skill #2 <poison volley> and axe skill #2 <splitblade> should have efficient damage in a cone area in front of rangers, not each projectile have damage. they also need more damage.
7. axe skill #1 <recochet> should reduce the ainimation time, in order to co-work with its attack speed. now <recochet>can be cast1 time per seconds, but according to its 1/4 seconds casting speed, it should cast 2 times per seconds at least. this is critical problems for axe
8. axe skill #5 <whirling defense> can be cast while moving
9. longbow skill #1 <long range shot> should attack twice per second, its projectile should fly more faster. and with certain trait, longbow should stack might boon for ranger with chance for each critical hit.
10. longbow skill #4 <point blank shot> should be are charged shot, the longer player hold, the more damage and more distance it will make to its target(s)
11. shortbow skill #2 <quick shot > should also apply stealth to ranger. and short bow should have more base damage.
12.sword skill #1 chain skill should not root rangers, they should move and dodge without problems.
13. All greatsword skills should have more base attack
14 greatsword skill #2 <maul> attack speed should be faster. it should be a blast finisher
15. warhorn skill #5 <call of the wild> should apply stability instead of might
16.warhorn skill #4 <hunter’s call> should inflict blind or bleed if critical hit.
17.dagger skill #5 <crippling talon> should be piercing. and all dagger’s should inflict more damage.

pets and spirits (p/s) should be more resilient and efficiently provide their benefits.
proposal proposal
pets and spirits functionalities
proposal functionality
1. pets and spirits should have 85%+ AoE damage reduction as their default setting, because they are too weak against AoE and hard to control. but they still take full single damage when being taken target.
2.pets should be move 25% faster as default setting, and they should stay more close to ranger when following. rangers can also ground target where pets to go. When “stowed”, pet will not automatically appear when rangers entering combat ( this is for certain situation preventing pets hanging around pulling mobs.)
3. any boon pets provide should automatically apply to rangers if they within 1500 units range then apply to other 4 players within 900 units. rangers is prior target to receive pets’ boons.
4. spirits’ active ability can be ground targeted and last longer.(including water spirit and spirit of nature)
5. spirit of nature affecting area should be 1000 units
6. reduce summoning spirits time to 1/2 second, spirits’ active casting time reduce to 1/2 second.
7. pet f2 skill animation should be reduced inorder to coordinate with their casting time. Certain pets (like jungle stalker) should reduce their f2 casting time.
8.water spirit’s healing potent should be increased and interval should be reduced. to equivalent to rangers’ other healing power.
9. pig class’s f2 skill item should direction send to rangers hand.
10. pets can attack when moving ( they always walk to certain position of mobs before attack, which make them very hard to hit a moving target)

Proposal Overview
marksman trait line should be reconsidered, make opening strike more supportive and signets more useful.
Goal of proposal
build diversity
Proposal functionality
1. without being trait of <marksman XI signet of beastmaster>, signets should work on rangers first not pet, the trait<marksman XI> will then benefit both ranger and pet.
2. 3 minor traits of marksman <opening strike> <alpha training> and <precise strike> has little value during long haul fight. Even with grandmaster trait <marksmanXII Remorseless>, the opening strike doesn’t provide enough damage for rangers.
I suggest <Remorseless>’s current effect become default effect of opening strike, and remove the inner cd, the opening strike will stack each foe is killed immediately, and consumed with every critical hit rangers/pets inflict.
The new <remorseless> will reset opening strike every 30 seconds with or without foe killed. This design is for long-hual single target boss fight.
and eagle eye should also affect short bows.
(edited by Dos.7052)
looking forward tomorrow’s CDI
sigil of the wild should work both rangers and pets as default setting, not be traited
pets and rangers, not doubt, ranger is the main part of this profession. but funny thing is: without marksman XI, rangers cannot enjoy most of sigils’ active effect. this is a very broken setting and I cannot understand, way in order to use a signet’s active effect, rangers has to sacrifice lots of choice to get marksman XI? rangers’ traits doesn’t have too many choice, and this setting does make the situation worse.
I suggest, make marksman XI as a default setting of all signets, or at least, make it works for rangers, then traited to affect pets, no one way around.
lack of stability boon support
comaring with other professions, rangers have very poor abilities to support them with stability boon, which is rather vital to pve and pvp situation.
the only reliable resource is elite skill rampage as one, which has 2 minutes cool down. doesn’t cope frequent use.
the other one, signet of wild, provide considerable boon duration and cd, but sadly, it requires the marksman XI , which limit the build selection to rangers.
considering stability is a very important boon that for players to cope both pvp and pve situations. please provide certain skills to provide rangers sensible stability.
so,it,s not muck difficult things.Other games, such as WOW,RIFT,LORD of THE RINGS can
input Chinese simply…Guild Wars 2 maybe support it
well, it is not difficult in technical issue, just how willing anet is to do.
spirit active skills
despite the spirits’ survival problem, their active skills also annoying.
It is hard to control spirits’ active skills since you can’t pinpoint their location in order to cast their skills. even with traited spirit it is just too hard to do it.
I suggest make their active skills can be ground target, like barrage, and reduce their casting time to 1/2 second
Let’s hope that CDI works. Otherwise, we may be in trouble.
as long as pets’ responsive and survival not improve, the entire beastmaster trait is almost worth nothing. and shout need to redesign not reduce cd.
The staff probably isn’t trained to handle support tasks in Mandarin/Cantonese so they wouldn’t be able to investigate reports, and they’d have to develop a new filter for obscenities.
Once they’re up and running in China, they might be able to port the knowledge/system to the rest of us.
I do believe some official respond would be nice. bot “agree” or “disagree” are ok to me, I just want to know their opinion regarding to this situation.
I sense a lot of racist undercurrents here. Some of the comments here are just outright disgusting.
my way to this kind of respond is: ignore. not to respond them is the best way.
i am Chinese,but i can’t support your opinion . it’s not mean i am good at english.
but think about it. you play a game in Chinese server and see other guys input Korean, Japanese, Spanish, English on public channel . Yes, that’s annoying. you totally don’t know what are they talking about. do u remember this idiom "ru xiang sui su“?Even in US server ,when I saw someone input other language, i felt so bad.
IMO,your request is selfish.
“ru xiang sui su”, means .When in Rome do as the Romans do.
you are not using it in a proper place. to do “the Romans do” is depends on you whether or not to do. not by someone’s force.
I did explain my point before and because you are Chinese too I will explained it again.
1. In eu/us servers, to speak english when team up with multi-language players, is supposed to be players’ personal etiquette, not by gw2’s game setting forcing players into it.
I understand your feeling, people speak spainish, or german or such languages with you when you do wvw or dungeons, but you also need to know, not everyone know how to speak fluent english in gw2. to put you in their shoes, what you gonna feel?
on the other hand, even like now gw2 doesn’t support proper chinese display, if two players decide to use chinese, they still can use english to “spell” chinese, for non-chinese speakers, they will not understand.
on way or another, display chinese input has no relation to the situation you talked about.
2. I played WoW for years, and WoW support multi-language properly, the situation was, I didn’t see people complain about the game being multi-language supporting, the game just work perfectly with multi-language supporting. and as a chinese player, I just use chinese between guild chat and when there is non-chinese player in group I just switch to english. as I said, it it personal etiquette, not by forced.
I am not selfish, just the opposite. personally I can use English without any problem. but considering there are great number of my fellow chinese players can’t explain their ideas thoroughly on forum, I just feel responsible to speak for them. I am helping everyone.
and remember: “when in Rome do as the Romans do”, is supposed to be done by people under his will, not by other’s force
(edited by Dos.7052)
I seriously hope smooth penguin is being sarcastic…
OT: not that I don’t support your proposal, but how can you say it’s technically easy to do Dos? Personal knowledge?
I know little about I.T,but:
1. GW2 does support chinese display, just not quite well, and it doesn’t support simplified chinese
2. according to WoW, you only need a 300kb-800kb font file in order to make the game display chinese characters perfectly.
Has anyone tested if they take more damage when you consume the potion?
I saw Anet has “fixed it” (Fixed an issue in which the Powerful Potion of Slaying Scarlet’s Armies was causing players to take additional damage from Scarlet’s forces.), but I would love to hear it from the community with all the number crunchers out there.
that bug was surely annoying…
Yes, I would imagine that it work on all her Alliances as well as the Watchwork minions.
need to find out from wiki, but it has no information so far.
The flame legion, no.
Just like the Flame Legion tonics didn’t work on the Molten Alliance, I wouldn’t expect the opposite to work.
I would be curious to know if it works on other parts that have Scarlet’s Army. Does anyone know if the Scarlet Invasions are still going on?
so I reckon it only works on mobs whose name carry “aetherblade XXXXX” “toxic XXXX” and “molten XXXX”….
it would be very useful if this potion also works in fotm, don’t you think?
Why I still see Chinese character showing up in my dialogue box? I thought the input was in placed already?
inplaced but only works 40% well, and no simplified font…
the “powerful potion of slaying scarlet’s army”, does it work outside the L.A map? something like fotm, as I remembered, there are lots of aetherblade, dreadge and inquest mobs?
and further more, does it works at pve map? (something like flame legion mobs and such)
Anet is obviously capable of doing this, because they did it in another game, called Guild Wars, which supported CJK input.
Why they chose not to support it in Guild Wars 2 is beyond me.
thank you, I know they did in previous game. and anet also does in gw2, just kind of … broken….
maybe they are too busy…
But you seem to speak and write American pretty fluently. If that’s the case, you can just use the American alphabet in your in-game texts.
well, thanks for the compliment. I have no problems play gw2 in English, but it is very awkward to use english spelling chinese between me and my guildies. well, between chinese, I prefer to use our language. But I also suggest my friends to use English when team up with others as an mmo etiquette of course.
Anet is obviously capable of doing this, because they did it in another game, called Guild Wars, which supported CJK input.
Why they chose not to support it in Guild Wars 2 is beyond me.
thank you, I know they did in previous game. and anet also does in gw2, just kind of … broken….
maybe they are too busy…
spanish, danish, german and french all use English characters though.
It does because if a ton of people suddenly start typing in chinese then things like WvW become really really difficult to co-ordinate.Yes french and german can have that effect on WvW. But on the NA servers I have never seen anyone speak in anything other than English, so I can imagine it getting pretty difficult if players were to start typing in chinese.
well, you still don’t get it my friend, if you group up with two chinese-speaking players for dungeons, if they decide no to speak english, they will type english letters to spell chinese, which you wouldn’t understand anyway.
so the situation you mentioned doesn’t change at all whether anet support chinese input or not.
as I mentioned, WoW eu and us servers supports multi-language input like chinese, and I didn’t see any one protest for that.
on the other hand, gw2 actually does support chinese input, but not perfectly
I hate to say this – but most people aren’t going to take kindly to seeing chinese characters in game. It makes coordination very difficult and it puts up a language barrier.
There is a reason that France and Germany have their own servers. On the other EU servers and ESPECIALLY on the NA servers people aren’t really likely to respond well to chinese characters. Also you have to question how beneficial this is – how many players are playing in chinese? How many of those players cannot speak English?
- You’re playing on the games Western servers.
the point is, even without proper language support, you still cannot read if two chinese are talking using their own language. besides, the game also provides displaying non-english language. even in an english language server, you still won’t understand if two players typing in spainish/danish/german/french or such. so why make it so hard?
I played wow for years, and wow support chinese display well (eu server as optional add on), and me and my guild mates played with two languages perfectly, no one has problems like that (everyone).
to sum up my theory, with or without the language support, it doesn’t affect anything you were mentioned, trust me.
