You’re being killed by your own conditions.
And if Necros were tanky, they wouldn’t be tunnelvisioned entire match. Aren’t they focused? Maybe I’m missing something.
Exactly this. Almost every game I’m the first target they bee-line for. Guardians that are used to eating our lunch get a bit of their own medicine from the transfers. And if you’re looking for the real culprits of condition abuse look at the heavy burn applying classes. (Eles, guards, and engis….I’m looking at you! O.o)
Edit for grammar

I remember the moment that it clicked and didn’t suck anymore was when I learned that staff 3 → staff 4 was a blast combo. So I would pull a few people get an aoe blast then use death shroud. Leveling is definitely the time to try every kind of build and see what stuff you like. But I think dagger/warhorn makes it easier. Having some form of swiftness helps, and dagger AA are our strongest. So basically take any armor with power on it.
Taking signet of locust is great too for the passive move speed around the maps. After trying minions and finding them lack luster I leveled 35-80 almost exclusively as condition damage. Epidemic just feels great on mobs.
Hope that helps! I think there’s a lot that goes into loving a character. For me the aesthetics of necromancer helped me when I wasn’t particularly feeling the class.
The problem is this parasitic contagion doesn’t scale with healing power, it scales with condition damage. I want a parasitic contagion build to work so bad, but since it doesn’t and as Tulzscha said the scaling of siphons isn’t that great I don’t know if it will work.
Actually that does not matter at all.
The real secret to builds like this is to realize that healing power is terrible for any type of build that focuses on healing yourself.
The true stat to buff your personal sustain is toughness. Healing power is incredibly weak. The ratios on things are too low.
So you’d suggest rabid? and perhaps undead runes?
the best vampire builds these days include parasitic contagion and epidemic together with blood magic. If you can get a bunch of bleeds on enemies you’ll get a truck load of HP.

I tried running running Curses: II, II, II, Blood: II, III, III, and Death Magic: II, II, II and while it was tanky as kitten I don’t feel I was as effective as full condi with spite, curses, and signets. I was using epidemic, well of corruption and plague signet with settlers signet and undead runes.
I will say this though, you could survive almost any opening burst. Send those guardian burns right back at them. But as far as healing went it was the regen from mark of blood that seemed to pull all the weight getting me back to 100%.
I’d love for someone to find a workable parasitic build. Because the idea of feeling like a Burning Crusade warlock just spamming siphon life again would feel great.
So obviously there’s no point to traited corruptions. Is there still use for corruptions without the trait? Cause that’s the only way I see it.
Personally I think untraited consume conditions is still our best heal. Epidemic got 33% cd increase to 20 seconds, but I think still usable in WvW. Corrupt boon is unchanged.
Few corruption skills are at a power level to even warrant a negative effect.
I agree, what are we paying sacrifice for? They aren’t overpowered. >.< The only one I’m excited about using is epidemic.
What is this, an image for ANNTTSSS???!?!?!?!?!??!
Our profession does have ups and downs but I doubt they’ll address everything . For example, if they provide Necros with better lifeforce management, healing in DS might not be neccessary. If they make it so we can use utilities (even perhaps heal skill) in DS, better lifeforce generation might not be required. If they enable healing in DS, maybe better lifeforce management may not be necessary. Same goes for evades/invulnerability, etc. Lots of good points were raised, but some may not be needed if they get fixed through other means like mentioned above.
We’ll have to wait and see. I think they have a butt-load of feedback in this thread and other threads and I seriously think they are sitting back and actually reading it. When you’ve got 13+ pages of feedback, you have to, especially when there’s good ideas in there. And even if we don’t see every change you’d want all bunched up in our spec (which we likely won’t)… we still need to see our other weapon skills / utilities. They said they’re re-designing those a bit too (adding certain extra functionalities that were lost from traits and what not). Personally, I’m hopeful and excited. I love my Necro now and if it gets buffed, I’ll love it even more
agreed. I’ll mirror what I said i this thread.
If you sift through how negative we are there are some really good and creative ideas that have been thrown out. It’s just that we typically express ourselves in a kittening manor.
Dude where this thing got head Oo ? I don’t want to play something with big hole instead of head.
It’s an asuran with a deep hood. Think ringwraithes with floppy ears. ;O

Everyone dance in Solitude….I mean Divinity’s Reach!
This forum is overly depressing, complain when there’s no need to
First of all, if there were no reasons to complain or discuss – no one would be here on the forums…
Second of all – strange how a large majority seems to have issues… Must be a player issue for sure
Third – People are actually not just overly depressed, they make valid complaints with interesting bullet points… Only an average of 1/5th is a false claim with some nonsense, but every profession has those people
This. And if you look at my post I agree we are very negative and often toxic. It’s a little hard to not feel that way after issues we have dealt with since launch. However, sifting through the negativity you can actually find good ideas. I think the pvp forum post that has continually gone on has some excellent and creative ideas in it. You just need to dig through a bunch of negative kitten to find it.
To simply say that there is no problems however is ignorant.
So I’ll start with OP, I totally understand where you are coming from: the community on these internet forums spill anger and hate towards arena net at an unhealthy speed. In fact, one week hanging around the forums would probably be enough to convince a developer that a group of necro-lovers is going to show up outside his door with pitchforks and torches! The necro community often focuses on the negative without proposing positive feedback.
That being said. The Necro community might be angry, but we are not delusional. Necro is not in a good place comparative to other classes. I play extensively necromancer, engineer, and elementalist. In addition I have logged over 200 hours in a thief and have started learning mesmer over the past few weeks.
Necromancers are simply weaker in quite a few regards. I couldn’t agree more with the post that is quoted below. (I snipped it because it was very long so go reread his).
There are several missconception in your thread, but, some of what you say have roots in the comon believes.
snip
In PvE I always feel downright guilty for bringing my necromancer when compared to the numbers that I can see (at very large amounts of ease btw) on my staff elementalist.
I can’t speak much to WvW because I don’t play T1 and haven’t been involved heavily in guilds that work with large groups. From a roaming standpoint I always end up bringing my engineer instead of my necromancer. They can apply the same condition pressure but with an insane increase to mobility and survivability due to gear shield and elixir kit (granted these are things people debate about fairness, but they have existed in their current state for a long time).
In pvp I play necromancer most. While I think we could use some love, where I am at in my skill level I do all right. When I get things handed to me I can usually figure out some things I needed to do better. On occasion I come accross a pro who really knows all classes in side and out and picks me apart. While frustrating, that level of knowledge I simply don’t have and I think a little bit of L2P is always present. We as players can always do better and should strive to that.
Having said that, I don’t think our position at the highest end of the competitive spectrum is in a fair place. Right now you have one necro performing well in tournaments (Nos). In opening team fights more often than not we are the correct opening target due to our lack of DS.
I as well am angry and here is the biggest reason I think to most necromancers, although it hasn’t been said yet in the thread. We feel ignored and have a past history of glaring issues in our class go long periods of time undealt with.
I believe in class equality. Specifically I believe that classes should have things built with thematic elements in mind first, then brought up to norm in terms of traits and such (which is just as important don’t misread me). I believe that there should be just as much time invested by developers in each classes and in some cases more to help bring under performing classes up to par.
Now here is the important part. Underperforming, not underplayed. I think we as a community are okay that most people don’t pick a necromancer as their first class. I think we would be completely fine if there was an extremely high skill ceiling and through mastery alone certain mechanics allowed you performance (think sword/torch Mesmers. that kitten is hard). But currently it doesn’t feel like we are a blimp on their radar towards fixing important problems we have faced since launch (I actually think pve is the most offensive of these).
From a Design standpoint what John said has absolute merit. Different classes are designed with a skill cap. Some classes and mechanics require much more thought to connect the dots on how it was fully designed to play, while some classes have specs such as pew pew rangers that allow users to create a spec and almost faceroll into effectiveness in the mists.
I don’t see this as poor design. It helps keep gamers of different interest levels and ability seem relative to the game. Because the most important thing is having fun, right? The problem lies that necromancers glaring flaws don’t allow us to become as effective as some of the higher level builds. In no universe are we going to replace shoutbow, cele rifle, d/d ele, or d/p thieves any time soon.
none of those roles can we effectively compete with and bring better (or even similiar) levels of support to the mix. So as a community we have to ask, what is our place?
Arena-Net, what is our place? And if our specialization is our hope are we shoehorned into taking it to become relevant?
TLDR: we need to play nice, but let’s not be blind to glaring problems.
Sorry for the rant.
Yeah I think you may be right. thats why meta battle suggest AA then locus AA then switch. AA . etc. Ill strike that out. I mainly pvp with the necro and pve with my ele.
After playing ele in pve I just feel guilty if I ever bring my necro along, because I know the damage I COULD be adding if i played another class. (even though I love my necro)
I answered but then realized it was a question for pve! OOPS!
For PVP

Here you go. I’m pretty sure everyone will agree power is the easiest to be effective in as condi requires better positioning. D/WH gives great dps and life force regeneration. plus the daze is too valuable as it unblockable and will go through gearshield, shelter, etc.
Personally I take spectral walk instead of spectral armor and spectral wall instead of a second well. I take wall because it provides similar protection (minus the stunbreak) to spectral armor and it feels like having a second reapers mark. casting it on a downed ally can interrupt stomps and provide protection while rezzing. That is simply personal preference.
For pve I think 6 6 0 0 2 is standard with dagger/ focus.

shouts seem so boring. BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so unoriginal. yay more melee necro.
I completely agree. I don’t think it fits thematically either. But look at what necros have been begging for since the beginning of the game: More group utility. It seems like a fix in that department and might not be bad!
Personally I would love to see a greatsword that is ranged and power like the mesmer’s. Not the same skills mind you, but the idea of using something so brute-force-like as a greatsword imbued with dark magic.
However, considering mesmers are getting wells that maybe too close to similar designs. So its more of a pipe dream.
Edit: realized the last part isn’t utility related. OOPS!
Hey man. I literally watched your video the other day on youtube and thought, “man this guy creates some fun videos and I hope he does more.”
Do you mind if I PM you for some advice when playing terrormancer? Rangers eat my lunch. XD

I think the biggest issue is that it limits the amount of revenue they can make from the gem store. If a hairstyle was perhaps the biggest reward at the end of the track then maybe.
Personally I’d love it, and would only do that track from there on out.
^^
People really wanna win so badly that they will sink low enough to use focus? Pointless even play ele if you use focus. Offhand dagger is whole point of ele.
I hope this is a joke. When you are playing a fresh air zerker build the focus is crucial to staying alive. the projectile hate makes sure you dont get insta-gibbed at range.
Not to mention how useful earth 5 is.
for might stacking is it mainly bringing bomb kit so you can big bomb and det turret?
Hey guys, I recently came back to the game after quitting (about when fire and ice came out). I had a quick question about armor configs since I’ve returned. I’ve looked at meta builds but I have a question specifically to how engies are using celestial in PvE
I’m currently working on ascended trinkets and I was wondering how most people use Celestial gear. For ele’s (based on forum posts I’ve read) most people will use celestial trinkets + accessories (in their specific celestial builds) but agree that full celestial is bad. Is it the same way for engies? Is it better to use the celestial just to get a good set of baseline stats then go zerker/rabid gear depending on your build?
TLDR: Is full celestial worth it, or simply grab trinkets+accessories.
Bonus round! : are engies doing well in fractals or is it better to take an elementalists?
Thanks guys!
So if it’s pretty certain that dagger is more dps then where does axe’s niche lie? It certainly isn’t from the boon removal, and with organized groups that vuln stack doesn’t make any difference. >.>
Is this still on? I really want to watch the footage.
I would love to do this on my engineer….
I’m actually perfectly content with Necromonger. Where we learn one pain can lessen another…

Sure sure. But I guarantee you, there will be spin one way or another. If this tourney is trying to prove something, the only way that can happen is if everyone agrees on what is trying to be proven as well as what would constitute “proof.” I’m essentially asking that the tourney be made as non-falsifiable as possible, lest both sides take the results as proof that their builds are best. There’s little point in holding this tournament if we lack the ability to come to an agreement at the end of it.
You mean other than the entertainment.

Bas.7406:
YOu can do 5 Necromancers, but I would prefer an actual team. Proving that 5 necros can hold their own isn’t the same as proving that your build can be worked into another team comp.
Give me a few days and I will put it together. I am glad you wanted to do this!
Alright then, just inform me what you want.
Contact me ingame for Necro, Ranger, Mesmer, and Thief advice.
Please by the old gods and the new, cast this and keep the vods
ust reached 100,000 hours playing Necromancer, second only to Xom who has recently surpassed infinity hours, I have gained a new ability called “Xomfire”. Purchased with just one skill point it allows you to dual-wield Scythes with an ability that does the damage of 1000blades (yes 1000) while stacking every condition in the game to 50 within a 1500 range PbAoE. Does extra damage if TheMightyAltrolls tears are collected while saying All Hail Mighty Xomfire in map chat.
But have you theory crafted at least 119 fully tournament viable builds?
Any chance of getting vods of the last one or the next? I wouldn’t mind watching and dissecting some high level play. Lord knows I need help. ^.^
