Currently you gain 30% from 6 in soul reaping, Now its 15% from Strength of undeath?

Power creep bla bla. In pvp and WvW necros are Viable today. In PVE the changes coming to condis should help IMO…

But this nerfs both damage and survivability for a huge amount of necros unless life force pool is magically getting added to our gear too.

Most builds went at least 4 in this line that used this line at all, this means a 5-15% nerf for a huge number of necros.

Solution to fix the population imbalance

Here is the solution I put in the other dev brainstorming thread. It works directly with the answer posted here.
This is my solution. Not server merges, but Teaming. My idea is harder to implement for Anet, because it would require a physical changeover of server location 2x a day.
We have 26 North American and 26 European Servers. Someone mentioned bringing that number down to 20, Maybe that is necessary, maybe its not.That would depend on predicted competitiveness.
There are 3 things to consider when making a successful solution:
1: Solving Coverage wars. No matter what server you are on, you can agree that the biggest issue with this game is that if a server has a lower population during X time, that will be taken advantage of. Most servers believe that “If only we had people in X time, we would be competitive”.
2: Not turning this game into Blob Wars for lower tier servers. People on lower tier servers are there for a reason, and the reason is that they DO NOT WANT TO BE PART OF QUED MAP KARMA BLOBS. The reason is not a skill issue as those who are in T1 and T2 believe, it is often though that their computers cannot handle 200 people going at it OR that they simply do not enjoy that style of game play. Any solution has to take this into account.
3: Server identity. Any Solution should, for the great majority of the servers, encompass allowing us to fight for our server. Yes I agree that in some cases that may be untenable.
So, My Solution is Server Teaming . That has been discussed here, however I would like to do it differently. Instead of teaming up NA Servers to fight other NA servers, Team NA Servers with EU servers based upon known coverage gaps. These gaps have been recorded by Mos Millenium and other sites. “Just” ( this word always encompases a ton of work that the guy saying it doesn’t think or know about) Team up a NA server with the EU server that has somewhat the same population and coverage situation.
To me the problem with this idea would be the lag for each side if the server placement for the maps were static. EU would hate life with a server in Texas. NA would hate life with a server in Madrid.
The answer to this would be some sort of changeover period. Hopefully, since information on server status could be sent live from one server set to the other, very brief. People would need to be kicked from maps, but you guys dont seem to have a problem doing that to hot fix the flight path of ambient mosquitos, and we have gotten used to build “Dangits” so Im pretty sure we can work with this too. A couple minutes to change over the server placement during say 3:30AM and 3:30PM EST wouldn’t kill us.
These teams could be permanent or they could be temporary based upon changes in population on each server, changes in how each server competes, etc.
Most importantly, each server would get a strong NA and a strong EU presence. This would change coverage wars in the lower tiers. Perhaps the upper tiers just don’t get teamed at all. Fly on Alone Little Blackgate! Be Free Seafarers Rest!
This allows 40+ servers to keep their identity, and for those in “silver and bronze” Get their fondest wish: Someone to fight in that G-d kitten time period when we arent awake or are at work.
This type of move would increase competitiveness on all servers. And, if made a weekly change, can be worked on until its done right.
This move also stops you from destroying communities by sending down what lower tiers perceive as “Arrogant SOBs” or pushing up what higher tiers perceive as “Skill-less Noobs”. None of us. NONE. OF. US. Want that drama.

No No. Please remove the white swords. My solo taking of keeps with an alpha golem and 1 OTHER GUY is already way way to hard. G-d forbid some person showed up to stop it.

And hey, just because 3 people will be able to take and or back cap a map when orange swords are in say Garrison isnt a bad thing AT ALL!

Sorry, but if the way this game was intended to be played was for some poor B(s) word (take your choice) to be stuck in a keep or tower for 6 hours at a pop telling the people trying to play the game where to go and refreshing siege, it was really badly designed.

Ingame GMs, do they exist?

Thank you so much for responding here. I would like to point something out which hopefully you can take into account.

You state that a GM must physically see the person hacking, however with the exception of speed hacking, most hacks happen in a limited time period, for instance jumping over a wall, glitching through a gate, and rezzing underground.

This effectively means that since it takes probably a while to work through the que these intermittent hacks cannot be caught yes?

Michael, the system as it is now in its unprioritized state leads to hackers hacking unmolested for months. Not a couple months either, it took half a year to get GOMs worst hacker banned…for a couple weeks.

WvW hacking is public. It hurts server reputation. It hurts player morale game wide. It becomes a toxic topic and it breeds more hackers to “fight the hackers”

It is, as far as I know, the only public cheating ingame, viewed by thousands who get the impression that ANET does not and cannot stop cheating. This makes people think they can cheat the markets, bot the game etc, because hey they cant even stop that one jump hacker.

Perhaps prioritizing the public, in your face, cheating that does instant damage to WvW ranking, server morale on BOTH sides of the cheat, and your reputation would be valuable?

Adopt-a-Dev for the WvW Fall Tournament

Aaaaand this is exactly why you should have sent more than 1 dev into the lower tiers.

If you make this change, My walking up to keeps and weakening the walls with an omega golem or catapult will become my walking up to keeps, breaking down both walls, and getting 1-2 other people to come take the keep with me.

If you plan on doing something like this you need to balance it with a hint from DAOC, Hourly guild influence buffs. Strengthen the guards, Double the guards. Guild call out from guards etc. This would give WvW guilds a reason to have influence beyond you know, +5. Make it expensive. Make a call out from the guards when attacked 500-1000 inf an hour. It would be totally worth it.

Screw swords, make guilds take the responsibility they should be taking in Guild Wars.

You want a WvW gold sink? There it is. Want a Gem sink for WvW? Guild Bugle, Detailed call outs on numbers, gate direction from guards for 4 hours. 400 gems. I promise that sells like hot cakes.

WvW gets 3rd place in this game because you haven’t figured out how to monetize it. Well there it is. I can pay gems/inf for scouting. Done.

What most guilds want is fights. Scouting is a key to fights. On low tier servers you cant even pay 1g an hour for good clean scouting reports. I know this because we tried. We have a TS whisper list for defensive call outs. We have a commander whisper list for driver to driver call outs. We have giant flares that we put up in the sky like the bat g-d kitten signal. In low tier servers call outs don’t happen because nobody wants to waste the time standing at something that might not even get attacked for 2-3 hours.

So, Screw Swords. Make us pay for something else with a lot more data.

“5 people have attacked south bay gate scout”

“4 people have attacked SE wall archer”

“ram hitsgate ram hits gate ram hits gate ram hits gate”.

Oh wow 4 rams big fight lets go.

My thought on this is “merge” NA and Eu servers together that are on about the same tier. I would bet every NA server is advertising for EU players and vice versa anyhow. Have the physical location of the home server change around 3am EST to Eu and at say 3pm EST back to NA

Dear Anet. Where do I start.

1: You make all your WvW decisions for 2 years based on PvP.

2: You create a system that pulls people out of team based WvW, and turns into a place where people just ktrain until they are platinum level nubcakes.

3: you claim “fixes are coming soon” for, again…forever.

And when you MAKE THE FIXES, YOU CHARGE US FOR THEM? Seriously?

You guys bank on the whiny people on the forums just being a small part of the bla bla bla but let me tell you something, Commanders are already frustrated with this game and its bleh system of command. If the handful of good ones on each server say kitten it, it WILL effect your bottom line.

Maybe you dont care because your off developing my little pony the bloodthirsty adventures. It sure as hell feels that way.

How about doing something that doesnt frustrate your player base.

So, we now have 19 straight first place wins. One of those wins includes a 40,000pt come from behind win.

This is something the current Glikko System actively discourages. A server usually will either get bored to death by Glikko OR will have a nasty up-jump and get face rolled.

GOM has broken the Glikko System. Neither boredom nor zerg blobs will detract us from trying (Key word there) to win this WvW game by all metrics. We want to win the fights, win the ppt, Win Roaming warz, win who killed the most chickens. You name it if its in the live maps we want it.

And we want to do that while still having FUN. And guys, its succeeded. This isnt your Mom’s Gom. GOM 2.0 is kitten awesome.

Nope an EU team coming in would pretty much have the run of the place. We can promise a strong hand off to the NA crew so their work will not be in vain. AND we have a decent OCX/SEA crew too so they should be able to handshake up with them as well.

GOM is a server that likes both its fights and its PPT. We want to win every week by every metric if possible. AND we want to do that while still having our fun.

Without running any simulations I can tell you that HoD/GoM/BP and IoJ/GoM/BP are impossible. Any matchup with both GoM and BP will almost certainly have a lower-ranked server as the third server. If you’d like to face HoD or IoJ that will be in a T4 matchup and the third server would be SBI/YB/CD. (probably not more than 15% chance total of a T4 matchup)

As for a matchup with DR, that would be a T5 matchup that will almost certainly still include BP. If not BP, then would most likely be GoM/DR/NSP, but I think the chance of that matchup will be in the ~5% range, with all other T5 possibilities excluding BP being even less likely. (The most likely T5 matchups by far will be GoM/BP/DR and GoM/BP/NSP – each of these should account for about 45% of all T5 matchups.)

Note: These are crude estimates based on probablility calculations, not simulated matchups.

So we either are going for painful or boring?

I would like Painful or DR/BP. DR is obviously stronger than the last time we saw them. Anything but a 4th match of bp/nsp. I dont think any of the 3 servers involved are interested in that heh.

A purely defense or mainly defense/scout guild would be heavenly.

Why Join GOM Server:

1: As we stand, we have won 17 straight matches. That is without any large transfers.

2: We dont NEED you. We arent PAYING FOR GUILDS TO REBUILD A DYING SERVER. We could use more friends to kick some kitten with.

3: GOM doesnt give up if its losing on day 1 of a week. We fight. We fight hard, we fight constantly.

4: GOM WvW currently consists of a bunch of guilds that respect each other and let each other do what they do while synergistically doing what they do. No one guild runs the server. No one person demands all the attention. (Well, I demand all the attention but nobody gives it to me. I am so lonely. Wont you be my friend? None of these other guys want to be. Something about “Not wanting to catch the crazy”. Pft. )

5: We have an overnight presence. We would like a STRONGER overnight presence. The SEA/OCX crew we currently have is as fun to play with as our NA crew and as drama free. As we push up the ranks that crew is going to need aid.

You dont need to go there really, its 1 rule repeated 4 times: Dont be an A-Kitten, treat everyone respectfully. If you have a problem with someone take it up with that someone and dont start drama over it.

I am very much hoping this is a bug. You target someone, you throw your grenades, and they hair off in 3 different directions, one of them going somewhat in the direction of your target…sort of.

Even if standing on top of the target no more than 1 will usually hit. If you are lucky.

Spear is excellent for single target. You will need a good spear/trident for fractals anyhow.

Actually prior to the change I ran around 67% Crit dmg I think in total. So, with the 50% drop Im down around 17%.

I also may have made an error changing out earth sigil for torment sigil on my dagger. I expected to see about the same dps in 2 stacks but it hasnt worked out. 6-8 bleeds and 1-2 torments isnt the same as 10-12 bleeds.

Im not trying to say omg necro OP Anet wtf nerf. Just necros are gonna be extremely painful to fight with perplexity and this trait. You guys still have no real defense or disengage so its ok. But 1v1s will blow

Perplex runes have I believe a 15 second cooldown now on the interrupt, meaning they will only proc on one person, and were changed from on hit to on strike, which, basically, means that any necro (or honestly engi now) still using them is probably not doing himself any favors.

On strike every I think it was 25 seconds and on interrupt every 15 means your going to get MAYBE 3 stacks out during a fight.

Perplex were still excellent runes for a nade engi especially when they were on hit, seeing as we hit so so much, but on strike…nah.

(oh yeah my first toon was and is a nade engi)

If your going to do PVE I would go all in on the curses line and get the lingering curse at the end of it as well.

Then probably staff mastery. Then start running the spite line.

Oh and Cog, my old build had a large dose of crit damage from 30 into the last line there…

I chose rampager mostly to get my 50% crit which is there to push crit bleeds and crit torments. The white damage to me was always a bonus.

I dont think I have bothered stability stomping with foot in the grave more than a couple times. I play as basically the only necro on a zerg busting squad of between 15-20 players most of the time. I will throw in a quick shroud, run in with stability past the 90 walls and cripple fields the other frontline team drops, get down my well of corruption, drop a fear line behind their frontline so they cannot escape, drop whatever other AOE I can and then jump into plague and start messing up their rotations. Pop back out, back into shroud, use my AOE and torment, back out of shroud, drop my wells, hit my heal if need by (probably 2nd time) and then pull back and start sceptering or start locking down and killing with the daggers.

3.5 seconds of stability every 10 seconds is a LOT of stability. I actually had it a bit longer due to boon duration buffage in my old build.

For roaming, its not so much foot in the grave but the long fears from fear master and the very large death shroud pool that were the nice things from that build. Get crippled chilled circled etc you just pop shroud and walk out, cant really be controlled out of your game.

Its nice. Between the stability and the “oh you tried to control me, heres an automatic AOE fear in your face” you get a fairly long time to recover from attempted ganks and such.

My thought currently is I need to do a massive gear switch, as Im uncertain that the hybrid build can do the dps I need to do. Im thinking of pushing dire/rabid. Possibly a rune change though I will cry being slow again :p

To preface, this is, and is not, about this patch. I feel like overall it was a good patch.

I play my necro 95% of the time in WvW.

Im wondering what other Necros are doing now. Whenever a new Necro asks me what to do, I always ask them “Well, how do you want to play” because one thing thats awesome about the class is we can be backline, midline, or front line depending on play style, traits, and weapon choices.

So, for those who might want to help me, my play style is frontline necro Power/Condi hybrid. I also used my build for both solo roaming and small man (semi successfully, its better for being right in there with the tanks)

Old build was 0/20/20/0/30 focusing on terror and foot in the grave. With Chill on Blind being used both with plague and with well of darkness. Well of Corruption/suffering being used as the secondary for either players or camps. 3rd position being used by boon corrupt, blood is power, or spectral wall depending on the situation.

Weapons: Dagger/Dagger and Scepter/either dagger again or Focus. Sometimes in rough fights I would switch Scepter for Staff and move in and out of the frontline as my tricks came back up.

My gear was good for me, not really good for a beginner with the class. Im really good with shroud management in a 15 man group. Smaller groups where you get re-focused after the fear goes off youd probably want to be more tanky.

Anyhow, the ferocity change hit me harder than I expected. Between that and the fact that most classes have more survivability now, Im not killing them before they kill me in a roaming situation.

Im just not feeling it. Its ok, but again, I find myself losing with the other guy at 5% health over and over again. Right now im actually still stacking corruption stacks, not using the frailty.

I cannot find synergy with foot in the grave and the larger life-force pool that comes with taking it and these other trait lines in such a way that you can both roam and run mid sized groups efficiently. I could go 0/6/0/2/6. That would probably be really nice for solo roaming? I dunno. Perhaps just forgo all the new toys and use my original build and all its built in defense? Switch to full carrion gear and start running around with a staff?

Im just lost. If anyone has had just a lot of fun with something recently I am all ears and thank you in advance.

So most people hate the population imbalance issue (aka Nightcapping, Nightwatch). Yet most people also hate any proposed solution to the issue.

So which do you think will cause the most QQ and the most people to quit over the next year:

Switch to Megaserver and the end of Server vs. Server vs. Server?
Or
Leave it the way it is with the population imbalance issues?

Well, unless they persistantly match an NA and EU server together in WvW (which would be AWESOME) this wouldnt fix night capping, because the only reason we do not like night capping is that we want “Our Team” to win on “its merits” and you wouldnt have a team to give a crap about anymore.

Anonymous group I happened to be in X wins! yay.

And if its persistantly capturing about the same people from the same servers and placing those servers together as a team, then their night issues would move with them, so night capping wouldnt be “fixed” really.

Thats why I really just want to see what the actual solution is before freaking out completely and throwing a tantrum. The different paths this could take from one small paragraph at the end of how PVE content will be handled are infinite.

The total removal of the matchup threads is the one crumb thats worrying me here. I do not think Anet really understands just how important community is in WvW, including a competitive atmosphere with the other side. Thats the one thing sitting in the pit of my stomach, but getting crazy on the forums with nothing to work with except those 2 microscopic crumbs doesnt do any good.

Hey guys, why not look at the obvious from this instead of looking directly at the possible negative:

1: Anet just reduced the PVE server load by a gigantic amount. Instead of 30 copies of say, Hoelbrek, there will be say…3.

Assuming Anet owns said servers and is not re-purposing them to another game, Anet now has a HUGE amount of excess server power to dedicate to…WVW.

There is a possible Platinum lining to this for us WvW players.


Now, that said, if the removal of the matchup Forum was because we wont have matchups anymore, I have absolutely no interest in playing this game.

I have no interest as a Bronze player in the exciting new world of now my 20 man is fighting with 140 anonymous guys from X and against 160 “Red” from Y.

As a borderlands player I have no interest in always “Full” maps.

I have no interest in not being able to help my friends in EB because well, they happen to be the minority on that map and the majority of GOM is on a different EB so oh well.


BUT that is in both cases just guessing. One thing is for sure, this will absolutely free up a heck of a lot of processing power for use somewhere. This could instead of being a bad thing be a very very good thing.


As for Spamming LA or Gend, that shouldnt change because they are using your SERVER as the base point for which map you land in in the megaserver system, therefor you will go to the map where the majority of the people you want to talk to are in.

The only negative being there may also be in a majority HOD LA some people from Kaineg.

It also sounds like we will be persistantly “matched” with players from certain other servers.

So, if your GOM maybe you also will be matched to say AR persistantly.

Now, if this sort of forced server balancing were done and It was the same in WvW where We were fighting persistantly with the same guilds under the flag “Matchup 2704” or something…I dont think I have a problem with that. Do you really?

Big servers would basically see no change.

Small servers would get matched with a mid sized server…persistantly, meaning always, meaning you can create a new community based on your 2 already existant communities.

And then its Lg server force Vs Lg mixed force. That will be rough when it starts because Lg server force is a community and Mixed server force isnt yet, but the truth is we make our friends during the fights dont we?

As long as the system keeps working that way, x server loses people, but it gets mixed with YZ server group from above, so now its XYZ persistant server group….It shouldnt be terrible. The only thing I see wrong with this is if 2 groups that just plain cannot get along get persistantly matched up, but even that is fixable by simply keeping the transfer option in place.
