I have an issue like this too (just replace black screen with blue screen in my case), and I am trying to figure out what the problem is. I had the BSOD four times, three times in Lake Doric and just now in Lion’s Arch (until now, I thought the problem was something with Lake Doric that makes my computer unhappy). I managed to run WvW for hours without problem, so I feel like it’s something shared by Lake Doric and Lion’s Arch that’s the issue for me.
In my honest opinion, LS Season 1 was horrendous and I’d be happier if I never had to see anything related to that POS ever again. I groan every time I hear about anything about Scarlet. In fact, Season 1 was so horrible that it drove me to uninstall the game and ignore GW2 for at least a year.
Season 2 is superior to Season 1, even with the obnoxious mentions about Scarlet.
Well, the GW2 community do hate Logan to the core for his cowardice. I wouldn’t be surprised if Anet decided to kill him off to satisfy the community.
I kinda want something for Necromancer with a Plague theme (Let’s call it Plaguebearer) with a focus on bearing conditions and spreading them to enemies. Normally I’d give them the torch so that they can burn themselves for the “Burn the corpses!” motif and so that they can earn conditions (Burning), but unfortunately the Guardian already does that, so it will probably have to be something else.
The trait line would likely involve ways to reduce the effectiveness of the conditions on the Plaguebearer (For example, they’re less affected by cripple’s movement speed reduction, takes less damage from poison, ignore poison’s health effectiveness reduction or less affected by it, takes no damage from torment as long as they’re standing still, bleed damage stops stacking after a certain number), ways to make bearing conditions more bearable and less suicidal. Somehow I don’t think it’d be a good idea for a trait to increase condition duration.
At first glance, glyphs or traps for the Plaguebearer’s skill type could fit. But I think Physical skills would be a more interesting choice of skill type. Necromancer has good enough base health that the Plaguebearer could get away with getting close and personal. The Plaguebearer could have a “cough” that creates green mist, infecting enemies caught within it with poison and some random conditions from the Plaguebearer. Maybe another skill could be the Plaguebearer grappling with the target in a fit of disease-induced rage, stunning them while transferring a number of conditions to them.
I have no idea about the Shroud however. Best I can think of is something like the Afflicted from Guild Wars Factions, but I don’t think that would work as a Shroud. As for the shroud (whatever it is), maybe it could be directly improved for each present condition on the Plaguebearer and, while I am not sure if the Plaguebearer improving condition damage would be a good idea, maybe there could be a grandmaster trait that makes every enemy nearby take more from condition damage while the Plaguebearer is nearby and shrouded. But that would probably get out of hand quickly when some world bosses accumulate 100 bleed stacks and a Plaguebearer pops Shroud.
I can’t believe that I wrote something this lengthy for something that probably won’t work out anyway.
I am hopeful that one of the next dragons will challenge us by being extremely hard to even damage. The same weapon (I know it’s destroyed and probably won’t be rebuilt, I am just using an example) that took down Zhaitan and forced him to land on a mountain will be shrugged off by this one with ease, and that’s assuming that this dragon even realizes that some powerful weapon just tried to hurt it. Primordus or Jormag could be a good candidate for that, but it could also be Kralkatorrik if he decided that he needs tougher scales after his confrontation with the Destiny’s Edge.
The Elder Dragons don’t necessarily have to be stronger than the other, they just need to challenge us in different ways. Where Zhaitan was defeated by the fleet, Mordremoth took down the fleet with ease, forcing us to navigate the jungle on foot. Where the mortars worked on the Mouth of Mordremoth, they wouldn’t even make a dent on this hypothetical dragon with unbreakable scales no matter what, so we would have to find a different way to defeat him. Or there’s an exposed spot that serves as this dragon’s Achilles’ Heel, but I’d hope that won’t be the case.
I can’t wait for Anet to discard Scarlet once and for all.
Hopefully inside an incinerator.
Then I might reinstall GW2.
Dhuum shows up and insta kills Scarlet so hard she ceases to exist in any form and shape.
I hoped that I wouldn’t have to say this, but…
I am disappointed.
I am disappointed that Anet chose to shove a widely hated character further into our throats.
Anet had every chance to simply stop using Scarlet forever when the fanbase made its dislike of Scarlet loud and clear, especially since Anet is clearly not going to use Trahearne ever again. But nope, they thought it would be a brilliant idea to use Scarlet again.
I have no idea why Anet is so much in love with mary sues (Kormir, Mhenlo, Trahearne, and Scarlet… You’d think they would have learned their lesson with Kormir and ESPECIALLY Trahearne), but it’s clear that no matter how loudly we make our opinions clear, Anet is always going to shove mary sues down our throats.
The saddest thing is that the most significant permanent content (excluding Tequatl change) added to GW2 lately has been freaking Scarlet content. Apparently Anet thought the Bazaar to be unworthy of being permanent content simply because it didn’t have Scarlet Sue.
I love GW2, so it pains me to see Anet take it to such a terrible direction. At this rate, Anet is going to turn mountains on the world map into Scarlet’s face as permanent content.
I don’t feel like playing GW2 anymore so long that Anet aggressively desires to shoehorn Scarlet into everything. I might just have to go and uninstall GW2 and take my business somewhere else.
I might return should Anet make the right decision to gruesomely kill Scarlet off or retcon her out of GW2. But with Anet being in love with her, that won’t happen.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!
On the topic of Elder Dragons and their (lack of) personalities, I am kind of hopeful that one of the Elder Dragons surprises us all by talking directly to our characters. If executed well, it could be scary and awesome.
Are you noble Background?
If not and you finished playhouse do you remember what Faren said when you saved him and clicked him for his dialogue?
My character said “don’t ever change friend” and that lead me to believe a lot more NPC’s can discern personal story progression (my Mesmer is noble and met Faren way back in the past)
He’s not noble background. Although I remember him saying “Don’t ever change”, and just that.
He recognizes me as the Hero of Shaemoor, specifically.
I really love little touches like this.
Do you guys want to know what’s one of the funniest parts of this?
I’ve seen one of Scarlet’s fans claim that the only reason we hate Scarlet is because she’s a girl.
Accusation of misogyny aside, that claim is easily invalidated just by saying the word “Trahearne”.
I don’t think I have met a single person ingame that doesn’t dislike Scarlet. Even one of the zergs I participated with discussed what a bad character Scarlet is.
I believe it’s safe to say that Scarlet is Trahearne-levels of hated.
A lot of us are tired of them. At this point they’re considered mere nuisances and practically poses no threat anymore. Give us conflicts with old enemies like centaurs, renegades, separatists or maybe even new Flame Legion+Dredge style alliances or brand new enemies.
Just no Aetherblades.
You want old boring enemies?
Or do you just hate new steampunk/futuristic content?
Old boring enemies > new lame enemies
If the most powerful faction got trouble shooting a stationary balloon down with cannons, then does that mean that everyone in the entire game are all pathetic and weak?
Well, judging from Anet’s silence, I believe it’s fair to assume that Scarlet is, indeed, supposed to be the nemesis.
Which is massively disappointing, because she’s one of the worst characters I’ve ever come across in a MMO ever. If Anet sees her as a nemesis to our dragon-slaying characters, then I see her as nothing but a massive insult. It doesn’t help that she is just as incompetent as the rest of the Aetherblades.
The proof that ANET has done their job in creating a compelling villian? The fact that this thread is almost 300 posts strong. Love her, Hate her, doesn’t matter just so long as you are compelled by her to feel one way or the other. Personally, I have no idea wth is going on with the LS. I haven’t been able to follow a coherent thread since the beginning. But Scarlet is my favorite part so far.
According to this logic, Trahearne is also a compelling character.
I feel like that if the Healing and Elite were made two utility slots, it would increase the build variety and allow us a different choice if we don’t want a healing skill or an elite skill for whatever reason.
For example, a player is so good at dodging and evading enemy attacks that he doesn’t even need his healing skill. He would be rewarded for his dodging skill by being allowed to swap his healing skill out with an utility skill.
Another example, a player feels that his utility skills are great, but that the elite skills that his profession got are either terrible or doesn’t work well with the utility skills he is currently using. He can just choose to swap his elite skill out with an utility skill, would he wish to.
Of course, for balance purposes and to make Elite skills feel Elite, players are still restricted to only one healing skill and one elite skill at any time.
So, what do you think? Thoughts? Potential problems?
Here’s a little fun thing. If you add several nonsensical words to Scarlet’s name, she will sound like a character straight out of “My Immortal”.
Anet has yet to answer this question.
Hopefully we can all agree that if they don’t give us an answer for 20 more hours, we can freely assume that she’s the nemesis and be tremendously disappointed.
I’d be disappointed if she was. She strikes me as a filler villain.
Yeah, that’s why I am asking for clarification. So I can know “Should I be disappointed or not”.
I am sure more than half the community wants to know that, for obvious reasons.
And we have to know exactly everything about them in the first chapter too.
I think you’re on to something…
Dang, this is a long first chapter. How many chapters is this Scarlet saga going to be if it took 6 months just for one!
I hope not. There’s nothing redeeming about her as a character. I hope at the least we get to kill her mercilessly if that’s the case.
I just miss awesome characters like:
Master of Whispers
Vekk
General Morgan
KossThe 2 best characters; Tibalt & Forgal are dead. it’s like they hate cool characters.
Of course Anet don’t like them. They’re not omg so awesome mary sues.
Why not just make it so that the champion mobs don’t drop champ loot bags?
I honestly believe that it would be in Anet’s best interests to, once this event is over, completely discard Scarlet, pretend she never existed in the first place and move on. It’s extremely difficult to salvage a terrible character like her, and I don’t trust Anet’s writing team to be able to do that after this event.
(edited by Eldrake.1543)
This guy must work for Anet because she’s one of the most annoying characters yet and this event is horrible so far.
But for some reason, an incredible amount of people are playing the events. I would say the character is a success.
An incredible amount of people completed the personal story. Therefore Trahearne must be a success.
I hate that character so much it makes Trahearne look good
This is Anet’s secret plan with Scarlet. They wanted to make a mary sue so terrible that it would make the playerbase take a look at Trahearne and say “You know, Trahearne isn’t THAT bad.” so they’re less likely to be angry to see Trahearne in their future personal story, regardless of his role.
I am serious when I say this but the Mad King felt threatening, minus past 4 of halloween which should be deleted where as a lot of these other bad guys do not or a joke. He feels a cross from the joker in the original batman movie with the new one!
Again Aetherplate pirates are clowns with bad batteries.
The Mad King is more deserving of the title as the personal nemesis than Scarlet is. I mean, I am eagerly anticipating his arrival. He’s nemesis material.
The Faren cutscene was the best thing about the whole instance IMO
I liked it except for when he referred to himself in the 3rd person. I mean, who does that? Besides the Hulk…
You mean you don’t dramatically act like you’re in a legendary story and advice the writer what to write when you heroically save someone?
I think the writing went into Anise and Logan’s … Rivalry? There’s a bunch of distrust and hidden agendas regarding Anise towards Logan. You guys notice that in the Funhouse? Scarlet is fantastic to me, but those two is what got my interest.
Wasn’t it Anise who had the bright idea to have Logan fight a Rytlock illusion? I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the catalyst for that.
There’s a lot of plot potentials for that. But judging from the living story, we will probably get yet another month of Aetherblades, but this time they invade Halloween!!111!1!
I am going to have to assume that Scarlet is the personal nemesis.
In which case, I feel insulted that such a lame character could possibly be my nemesis. I’d rather see her gone forever.
Tara is a good actress, but a good voice doesn’t redeem a terribly written character.
I hope Scarlet isn’t the personal nemesis that you guys had in mind. She would be a really disappointing nemesis.
I can’t help but theorize that Scarlet is Anet’s attempt to create a character so mary sue-ish that the playerbase is practically forced to call all future attempts by Anet to write characters well-written by comparison.
I can’t be the only one to think they’re cartoonishly inept, can I?
AFAIK, pretty much their only accomplishment is to assassinate the council member. After that, Aetherblades do nothing but fail at all of their missions, die like rabbits in droves, and fail to kill even one person of significance in the Pavillion while losing many of their own.
I am frankly surprised that they manage to have any members left. I’d think aspiring criminals would stay away from a group known for throwing their own men out to die and had little success when it comes to fulfilling their objectives. They’re more of a nuisance than a threat, really.
They recognize me, which makes me happy because I like them as characters.
Hey, Faren even recognizes me from the Island Resort. Nice.
I have a feeling that if Anet decided to make the Abaddon fractal anyway, a good chunk of the Kiel supporters would be mad about it because they want to stick it to the Evon supporters.
We already saw that some Kiel supporters were happy that we’re not getting the Abaddon fractal, so there would be an outrage from them if Anet decided to make it anyway.
Seriously Martin? The title was perfect :X.
I thought the title was a bit harsh, and the new one better reflects some of the actual more RP posts in this thread.
yeah.. title was perfect. We don’t want her stepping down. We want her dead. Of course Anet usually only kills characters immediately after we meet them (former ships council guy for example) so this is unlikely to happen.
You want her dead all because of a fractal? Seems rather silly and childish to me.
I want her dead because she’s Trahearne 2.0.
I wanna see more Living Story with Evon Gnashblade as one of the important NPCs. Screw Trahearne 2.0, I wanna see more Charr Scrooge.
So you don’t want another content vote because you lost? How would you feel if Evon had won, and Kiel supporters wrote the same message?
Overall the Kiel supporters tend to be less shouty/annoying/loud and a bit more mature.
I disagree. Considering the reactions of some Kiel supporters, I find them just to be just as shouty/annoying/loud as some Evon supporters. In fact, the casual racism of most Kiel supporters I’ve seen has convinced me that they’re the opposite of mature.
Cause and effect. Blame the cause.
I don’t really think that would have happened. Overall the Kiel supporters tend to be less shouty/annoying/loud and a bit more mature. I am just being a petty and poor winner because those specific Evon supporters annoyed me. Had Evon won, my response would have been “Ah well, there will probably be another way to find out what happened”. But because the Evon side has handled themselves during the campaign… yeah, they deserve to have it rubbed in.
A doubly-hasty generalization. What you see in game on both sides is only a portion of each player segment, in terms of maturity / rage.
The reactions of people like you who think that this should be “rubbed in” is why I don’t want to see anything like this happen again – needless, large amounts of rage.
Cause and effect, again. Maybe the Evon fanatics shouldn’t have called us casual noobs with no more than 20 silver et cetera.
And the Kiel fanatics should probably have considered not stating that their reason for not voting Evon is solely because he’s a Charr.
See? Nobody’s innocent.

Evon supporters have no room to talk.
And neither has Kiel supporters.

Yup.
Sooner or later, Kiel will die for the greater good
But first, time to go to the pub with Evon Gnashbro and tell stories to each other.
We all know that if Evon won, there would be a similar outrage and Kiel’s supporters would accuse Evon’s supporters of being furries and such.
I am not happy about these reactions, but it’s not like Kiel’s supporters are entirely innocent.
Ha Ha Kiel WON Ha Ha!
Sucks to be a sad loser Evon supporter…
All that clicking just to lose…lol
No cheap Black LIon Keys for you, no Abbadon fractal EVER..
Ha ha ha lol
Kiel’s supporters, ladies and gentlemen.
No sportsmanship, no respect for anyone, and embraces the bad stereotypes formed around Kiel’s supporters.
Wow, people are really intense about this stuff. I personally put my 100+ votes to Ellen Kiel, why? Well I can tell you it has nothing to do with fractals, waypoints, or the rotation. Seriously, it was about putting someone good in office instead of being bought off by the typical money grubbing, out for his own good, politician that we always put in. If it would make him money Evon would burn down the whole of Lion’s Arch, lol. Ellen Kiel, always has the city at heart. #TeamKiel
You obviously didn’t read the lore behind Evon, how he brought trade, rather than bloodshed, but no, you’re using racial charr stereotypes and what not. Evon has business at heart, trying to flourish the city of Lions Arch, why burn down their biggest trade hub? Just goes to show how educated Kiel’s supporters were.
So basically, Kiel’s supporters are uneducated and racist. It’s sad to see that the majority of the population are racists.
Sign me up!
I can even reanimate her corpse, make it claim that she is the true leader of the Aetherblades and that she assassinated the council member because she wanted a seat, and then let some hero on the stage decapitate it.
And the best part is nobody will miss her.
