Quickness Discussion [merged]

I support the decision and personally think that quickness has no place in the game, but the devs shouldn’t balance around a single person’s opinion, or two peoples…or three.

The issue I have with the change is that there was no warning, they had a 3 hour Sotg session and not a single kitten was given that day about quickness. It also goes against their anti whack a mole approach. Not like I really pvp anymore, but it still seems extremely frustrating having the devs being so kittening opaque about everything and then blindsiding people with changes.

A often overlooked part of the BW1 event was the inclusion of the Thackeray buff. It retained it’s effect on the character but was only applied in a single 25 stack when certain conditions were met.

In the case of BW1 it was applied to a character only if they left a Pvp match before the game had completed. The time the buff would be applied for would be correlated the the amount of time remaining in the match.

In a very unpopular move, Arena net decided to not include the boon in further builds of Gw2 despite the almost unanimous positive feedback it had received.

The game developers scrapped a buff early in the developmental cycle of gw2. It was called Thackeray. It would trigger whenever an enemy mob would approach your character with a larger trigger radius in relation to veteren and champion mobs.

It would grant a stacking speed buff for as long as you didn’t attack a creature with a reduced internal cooldown the closer an enemy got to the player. Upon attacking a creature you would get feared (1 second for each stack of Thackeray on you).

The tooltip would simply state “Channeling the spirit of Logan” with an icon of Logan’s face.

The developers scrapped the idea under the pretense that they were being too nice to Logan. The entire project was later scrapped due to PR pressure.

I have played since BW1 and I must say that my first character was a necromancer, the thing is though, once I picked necromancer I felt like…that was my class. There are some awful things about a necromancer as far a bugs and whatnot go but at the end of the day to me, GW2 is being a necromancer.

I have tried all the other classes in both pve and pvp but none other feel proper to me, none other has a play style I enjoy. I mostly pvp but when I try that HB Warrior, or BS thief, or shatter Mesmer I think to myself. Is it powerful? yes. Is it fun? To a point. But at the end of the day I don’t get the same sort of satisfaction as I get with a well or conditionmancer build. So I will continue playing a necro, sometimes certain bugs really get to me, sometimes I wish things were different (DS Interface), but when everything is said and done, I always log onto my necro first.

I wholeheartedly support this thread, I think it is an amazing idea that adds strategic depth to a necromancer. I worry about it not being explained properly if implemented, and making people who are new to the game feel a bit overwhelmed, or this guy must be “cheating”. If a small mark over the head like the skull from “Marked for Death” Reaper #2 were to be put in so that there is some sort of notification of what is going on instead of it being entirely behind the scenes I think that this would be really good and make a necro feel more unique, or differentiated from other classes

3) But I have lost hope for any real sweeping changes. I don’t plan on switching my main class, but I am not pleased with where necros are at right now. Nor do I plan on leaving, just grumbling in the corner with my broken class, lol.

At this point in time I would be happy if they just implemented new game types. I don’t care if it is balanced or not, just make it hotjoin only. No need to have it perfectly balanced, seeing as how a large amount of conquest is unbalanced as is, I just don’t care anymore. The same few comps and builds dominating nonstop, the stagnating gameplay is killing my desire to continue pvping. A simple statement of “just for fun” or “not being balanced around but knock yourselves out.” when releasing a modified deathmatch, or dueling mode type would be great, but maybe I’m just rambling….

Give us a weapon with cleave!

Only noticed this was an issue yesterday, I was just finished the holiday dungeon and wanted to get the achievement, the “Wrecking the Town” I think it was called. Destroying all the breakable models. That was extremely frustrating watching the ele and warrior of the group tearing through things like a wrecking crew from hell while I stood around, popped a well or two occasionally, switched to minions to explode them, and deathshrouded occasionally. Also I was using staff, axe/warhorn, so the number 3 or 4 on my offhand set did a small aoe on like a 20 second cooldown. I felt severely useless compared to my teammates for sure.

To be totally honest, dissappointed. I look to the effort and results put into PvE and I am constantly impressed and amazed. I look at the updated patch notes for the pvp side, and on paper it looks impressive with at least 10+ changes for each class.

That is until one realizes that they are so minor and affect core gameplay so little, that it seems almost pointless. Rampant bugs prevail in pvp, while in PvE if something is found that is exploitable (Plinx) it gets nerfed to the ground within days of it becoming an issue.

I have come to spend less and less time in Pvp as time goes on simply because it honestly feels like they could care less about me as a player in that aspect of the game.
I will wait, but at the end of the day, it will be on other games, doing other things, until Anet can figure out what direction they want to take pvp into.

Taken from the new Dec. 14th patch notes
“Terror: Damage is increased by 50% if the target has any conditions on them.”

My assumption is that this is a typo and the intended (and probable implemented effect) is that it is an additional 5%, similar to engineers and guardians(burning only).

If I could get a clarification on this that would be great

Downed State

I was wondering the communities feedback on a certain “characteristic” of the downed state. I was running in a hot join match as a conditionmancer, enjoying what most conditon necros do, which is throwing an obscene amount of bleeds and other conditions around in a team fight.

Again and again a small, very small peculiarity struck me. No matter how I tried to ignore it, it’s irksome head popped up again and again. When a person goes into the downed state their conditions and buffs get purged.

My question to others are, do you think this is a successful addition to the downed mechanic? If you could switch it what would you do? Only purge buffs? Only conditions? and what would the implications of conditions or buffs remaining on being downed would have on direct damage and spiking?

I am not afraid to admit the one time I found an arena net tag in a hot join match I chased them around a bit, they were really good though. Not sure who Taru Taru is at arena net but they play their engineer and ranger like a pro >.<

I support a change to the current model as well ,I give props to Lorienda for such a well thought out system. Here’s to hoping that they at least consider a change in this direction.

on a side note, I just wish necros could have it as easy as thieves. Running a pure bleed build you put everything(runes, sigils, traits, and weapon selections) into maximizing bleed potency and duration. At most after hitting six different weapon abilities, swapping sets, and using most of your utilities you still only have a 19 bleed stack. To be able to lay down a caltrops and spam death blossom and hit 25 stacks seems a tad unbalanced.

Simply put, does anybody know of some high end, skilled tpvp elementalist players that have videos up? I would like to improve my game but feel that I might be better served observing the pros as opposed to simple trial and error on my part. Scepter/Dagger builds would be preferable, but any answer would be great.
