Guild Wars 2

I can never tell which ones I’ve already done and which ones I haven’t, the icons are way too similar. Never had that problem with the original skill points, those were easy to tell apart.

My 2 cents of this story: I’m a veteran WvW player and I also like the guild wars story line. So I want to follow it but I don’t like overdone difficulty and I don’t have that much patience fighting against computers, I’d rather play with and against humans.

Some fights in the story line are super annoying. Like the caudecus fight: combination of two-shotting enemies, AoE spam everywhere, ping-pong attacks… it’s hell for some classes (especially those without easy access to stability – and please stop nerfing that :p )

Last story line I actually rage quit gw2 for the first time. I dislike difficulty for the sake of difficulty. Just let me get through the story easily and then I’m back to world versus world. Unfortunately it’s not like that anymore, and I’m not liking the new direction. Sure the world could get a bit more difficult than the main gw2 that’s fine, but don’t overdo it. And give us a way to just go through the story quickly.

As a fellow returning player, I had a really hard time with the story missions of the living world season 3.

I liked many of the HoT maps themselves, but the enemies are a step up in difficulty from the main GW2 maps. But you get used to them, just spending some time there helps.

So I’ve been away from the game for a good while, and was wondering if there’s anything of importance new in world versus world. I don’t want to stumble back in and do something really embarrassing that I can avoid (my guild doesn’t really do wvw) so all advice is welcome

+1 for teamspeak and soldier’s gear (power vitality toughness stats), it’ll help you survive. Follow some of the commanders. Usually blue tag (“bluedorito”) means a big group of players. It might even become fun! Eternal Battlegrounds is a great map.

And how is the “world versus world” there?

There’s so much to do and explore in core Tyria, I’d totally recommend it Except the problems outlined above with some power creep in the new specs, the old classes are very fun to play, still lots of options. (If Anet is reading: yes yes we do want new classes )

Also, does anyone here honestly think that a necro without a staff could beat a necro with a staff? Or that a non-staff necro is stronger in general?

I do agree that the staff could use a buff or two, but it is still our strongest pvp weapon.

Doesn’t the scepter do much more single target damage? So not for 1 vs 3 but 1 vs 1 scepter would still be better?

Actually besides the first P/P problem I talked about, the other problems are things I have heard over and over again by other people. They aren’t really MY opinions, because I don’t share their experiences.

Ignoring the fact that your problems are more suggestions or personal dislikes of the directions anet is taking the game:

This is the first time I’ve read or heard of any of those, and I’m a forum regular. Then again I do not read necro and thief forums everyday so I might have missed something.

O they’re real. My acrobat pistol/pistol thief build is just gone. Less dodges, no ricochet, it’s just not fun to play anymore.

I recently tried and made a support Guardian. So much heals… I used the nomad set and wondered the same thing. Healing power as a main stat would have been better for my purpose.

Every crafting station already is a bank, you know that right?

For a solo thief, is berserker better than assassin’s ? I’ve been told power scales better, but OTOH much more crits with assassin’s…

For thief noobs like me… how does a decent thief rotation go now?

So you use dire armor instead of say rabid for extra vitality? I was thinking of doing that myself for WvW for a while. Is that absolutely necessary or is that more a temporary training wheels thing? I’m new to condi mesmer so I definitely need some wheels right now

So after getting bored with my other builds I decided to try a PU mesmer, but I could use some advice on how to play it.

The build I found used staff / scepter + torch, but do you stay mostly in scepter or mostly in staff? Are there any guides on preferred rotations? Anyone using a pistol instead of a torch?

I do think Anet should do something to improve how much space stuff takes up. It’s not just bloodstone dust. There’s blade shards, festival tokens, skill point scrolls, mystic coins, mystic forge stones, Mordrem parts, SAB continue coins, watchwork sprockets, custom arena time tokens… All of these are “currency” when you look at them right.

Dry top added more stuff to collect. Silverwastes added another form of currency (Bandit crests). Most of these you need a lot more than one stack to buy something (1000 crests for armor iirc). It starts to add up.

The experience scrolls to get to level 20 from first and second birthdays don’t even stack. Hopefully that’s a bug and not intended.

Then there’s the cooking supplies. I have three bank slots full of cooking supplies, each square filled with something different. The new crafting system helps to create the intermediate products on the fly so that’s at least something. And to be fair, they warn you when you start cooking that it will take up time , karma, etc more than other crafts.

What if you want to keep a few exotic runes around because if you’re not an expert on tp buying / selling (i’m not) you lose money selling them and then buying them back when you need them -> one bank tab filled with runes & sigils.

We seem to be pretty good in open field fights, mostly friendly atmosphere, i’ve also had great small squad battles over camps and so on.

I’m assuming the NA / EU server split has to do with latency issues as well?

I almost always play WvW, greatsword and staff. I wanted to mix things up a bit since I’ve been playing the same combo for years. Thought I’d try sword/something. Any tips for changing the playstyle? Right now I’m running a mix of zerker with pvt gear, traveler’s runes.

Lately I find myself more and more defending camps with small groups, and my greatsword doesn’t seem very useful against the inevitable invisithieves. I tried a staff / sword combo and it wasn’t bad. Unsure about what to take as an offhand weapon: sword, torch, pistol? All advice welcome

I play mesmer in WvW all the time and do well. I’m 36 now, so I don’t have 18-year old reflexes, but after some practice i can move and react very quickly. Go mesmer ! :p

Don’t forget that you can add your own playlists to the game! Search for it It’s fun and allowed by the company (one of the devs explained it).

As the odd thief out with pistols i’m loving the buffs. Pistol range can be increased with the same trait that makes the attacks ricochet (Trickery X), which is just perfect, and Pistol 2 applies vulnerability AND immobilize, nice…

Try the Ebonblade – I think it’s a beautiful, elegant greatsword. Nothing flashy.

++ would love to do some missions for my order, would greatly help in making the orders feel alive!

Didn’t have any problems on my mesmer, but i wore mixed zerker and pvt gear, that helped a lot Greatsword 5 turned out to be a handy knockback to get the wolves away from the minions.

I play on Piken Square and I like it a lot. Usually the public teamspeak is active, there’s guild raids and often a PUG commander as well – though not always. There’s always a bunch of people not following commanders but quietly upgrading towers, maintaining defense etc, if that’s more your thing.

I’m really bad at jumping and get horribly nervous when I have to do so in order to advance something. So I ignore most jumping puzzles except when I get a portal and can thank the mesmers a lot

The timers here are too much for me. I finished the story content on the new map but please don’t combine timers and jumping, that’s really too much in normal content. Jumping puzzles and timer stuff are normally out of the way so i can choose not to do those

What I would really like is some more optional missions in the personal story coming from the orders. I’d love some order of whispers spying missions etc…

What I don’t understand is that even the personal story cutscenes sometimes stutter when there is heavy net traffic. Why? Shouldn’t that simply be on your hard disk? The game could do with some optimizing… Same when loading e.g. WvW: first part of the loading screen, then i see myself standing in the middle of the map, loading screen comes back, then i’m at the starting point. Hmmm…

++ for trying out in soldiers/invaders gear. You can always mix p/v/t armor with berserker trinkets for a mix of health & attacking power. WvW is great fun once you get a little experience, and mesmers are a great class to play.

I ran with cheap mesmer runes for a long time in WvW. Love playing my mesmer there, the only thing I dislike is the movement speed – you have some ground to cover and mesmers are the slowest class. Travellers runes help but they are (too) expensive. In groups this is not such a problem – others will give you swiftness.

Another option is to not get used as a veil / portal machine – go on strike ;-) Sometimes I just play as part of the soldiers, not the support in zergs. Which means much greater survivability. Makes it all more fun…

A lot of us at Piken were so frustrated that when we finally broke through inner Stonemist yesterday, we ran straight up the stairs to take out the arrowcarts :-)
