Emmiere, I WISH I could give you move than 1 +1. They should work on making things like these scale so that they are available to everyone.
Exactly! Yesterday I was running a dungeon with some people from a different guild. They’re a large guild. We started talking about the upcoming guild missions and they started laughing about the absurd about of influence they were sitting on. I think they mentioned it was about 200,000 influence or so and they had nothing to spend it on! My guild, which has about 40 some members in it, is lucky to earn maybe 10k a week. We’ve been going since launch and we’re still unlocking some tiers. Why not make it scale? It just makes more sense! At least, it does to me.
I feel that the influence required for these missions (and to unlock them in the first place) should scale with the amount of people in your guild.
Well here’s mine. Still wonder what headpiece to use not to cover my whole face and hair. Any suggestions?
The Exalted Masque that you can craft as a tailor is nice. Doesn’t make you bald, doesn’t cover any of your face, and looks rather pretty, I think.
Earth is what I have been struggling with the most, tbh
The only thing I can think of right now, and this is a huge stretch, would be some of the armor from Kessex Hills/Harathi Hinterlands. Or even some of the Orr karma armor (not the temples). Some of the stuff with bones hanging off it. Though I’ve always gotten a more necromancer feel from those.
Another option might be the Twilight Arbor set. Beyond that, I’m not sure if there’s much to go with.
If you want more of a water piece than just the glacial head piece, there’s a dagger skin called the Corrupted Shard.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupted_Shard_%28weapon%29
In fact, there’s a merchant in Frostgorge Sound that sells the recipes for a bunch of Corrupted weapons. They’ve all got an icy look about them. His name is Rojan the Penitent.
Citadel of Flame has got some nice firey armor pieces. My favorite is the shoulders.
Some of the Inquest weapons have a bit of an electrical feel to them. You could do Crucible of Eternity for those. The focus from there is probably one of my favorite skins in the game.
Earth is probably going to be the toughest one. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything that’s got much of an earthy feel to it.
One thing I want to mention before I go too far into this, is that I hopped into the Heart of the Mists to try the build out against the NPCs. I also have no idea what utility skills you use, so I used Arcane Shield, Armor of Earth, and Cleansing Fire. The cantrips will be explained when I get to your build.
I’m not too sure stacking condition damage on a staff is the best option. To me, there’s not enough conditions on the staff to justify it. You’d be much better off, I think, to stack power and precision for a glass cannon staff build. In saying that, you could swap out your Elementalist runes for Superior Rune of the Eagle, which will stack up lots of precision and critical damage if you wanted to.
For your staff sigil, I’d say you be much better off going with something like a Superior Rune of Bloodlust. It gives 10 power each time you kill a foe with a max of 25 stacks. That means a guaranteed 250 power with a full stack rather than a mere chance on crit.
For your 30 points in fire, I’d say stick with Burning Precision. When I was testing this out in the Mists, I messed around with a few other traits and found Spell Slinger was a good option for more damaged as well as a bit of survivability. That specific trait is why I chose to use 2 cantrips. Armor of Earth grants you protection and stability already. With Spell Slinger, cantrips will give you 3 stacks of might as well. I also stuck with Pyromacer’s Puissance for the 10secs of might per fire spell. This ends up stacking a decent bit of might and therefore more damage. And the great thing about might is that might also effects condition damage.
The Arcane traits you picked I left alone. They’re perfect as is and there’s no reason to change them. :]
For your final 20 points though, I want to suggest you split them between earth and water. I say this because your stacking all your damage stats onto your armor. Being a glass cannon means high damage, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t add a bit of toughness and vitality. In the earth line you can go for Earth’s Embrace or Stone Splinters. I’d lean more towards Stone Splinters because try as you might, it’s hard to keep things ranged for too long sometimes. This also means that if you take Salt Stone and your bleeds drop, you’ve lost that extra 5% damage.
Putting the last ten points in water gives you a little extra vitality along with some healing power. It also means you regen health when you’re attuned to water and it’s the other reason I went with 2 cantrips for utility skills. I chose to go with Soothing Disruption, which means cantrips will grant you regeneration and vigor. This basically just translates into a little more survivability.
As to why I went with Armor of Earth and Cleansing Fire, that’s simple. With the traits I chose, they’ll each grant you 3 stacks of might (for about 15 seconds or so), regeneration (for 10 seconds) and vigor (for 10 seconds). Armor of Earth also will grant you 7.25 seconds of stability and 7.25 seconds of protection. Cleansing Fire will cure 3 conditions and also burn your foe for 4 seconds. On top of that, both skills break stun.
Arcane Shield was mostly something I just threw in there. It only lasts for 5 seconds, but it’ll block attacks. If it blocks 3 it’ll explode and do some damage.
If you do decide to forgo the condition damage on your gear, I’d recommend either Valkyrie or Knight trinkets. The both give you power and precision, but one also gives vitality and the other gives toughness. If you’d prefer neither of those, just stick with the Berzerker stuff for your trinkets as well.
I hope this helped. :] Ultimately you’re free to choose whatever traits/stats you like, I just found these to be effective.
I love this idea. As it stands, I usually don’t even realize when night time comes in the game unless I see my sylvari glow. I’d love the night to be darker. Right now it mostly just reminds me of a cloudy day.
I’d just be happy if they could stop people from listing things 1c above the vendor price. It’s so dumb, you actually lose money that way!
I would love more variations on sylvari hair styles. Different shapes of leaves would be wonderful. I also feel like they’re lacking a huge variety of flowers. Cherry blossoms for hair, anyone?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the point of a glass cannon build is to obtain damage levels typically unreachable by a more balanced or support build.
@Emmiere
I’ll just let you in on a secret. Arcane Retribution is really bad. It does not give Arcane Power, it gives an even more bugged version that last for 2-5 seconds if your lucky and usually 1 skill 2 if your really lucky.
But if it works your you then soldier on.
Like I said, I’m still tinkering with stuff. That build is up for lots of constructive criticism, so feel free to rip it apart. :]
Edit: What’re your thoughts on Renewing Stamina? 33% chance to gain vigor on critical hits.
(edited by Emmiere.1058)
I have some pretty great luck tagging enemies in Orr and I use dual daggers. I always try to make sure I’m one of the first to rush into the pack of undead.
I start off with Burning Speed to bridge the gap and hopefully do some nice damage in the process. I then lay down my Ring of Fire, immediately cast Arcane Wave for some might, swap to earth and do Earthquake for yet more might. And because I’ve got 30 points into Arcane, I typically then dodge out of all the damage coming my way, which will trigger Churning Earth without the lengthy cast time. By then I’ve usually done enough damage to get some loot.
Besides those AoE options, Ride the Lightning hits enemies around it, as well as your target. Updraft also hits multiple foes. Once you’ve knocked them all over, swap to earth and dodge roll quickly for more AoE. You can then Earthquake to knock them all back down, swap to water and use Frozen Burst to chill them and keep them in the same general area.
Basically, we’ve got more AoE with D/D than you think. :] Mess around with some of it, you’ll find really creative ways of taking down mobs of stuff.
I’ve been tinkering with some builds lately as I’ve been getting a tad bored with my 10/10/10/10/30. Keep in mind that I don’t really pvp, and I’m not sure how viable this may be in arenas, but it seems to hold up quite well for my needs. It’s 30/0/0/10/30 with a focus on cantrips only as utility skills. It’s built for loads of might and lots of damage.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you’ll want to frequently swap into fire. I know the sign of a poor Elementalist is staying in the same attunement for far too long. I’m not saying stay in fire all the time. Just swap back into it as quickly as you can to keep the stacks of might up as high as possible. I’ve managed to get it up to 15 stacks of might and hold it there long enough to do some good burst.
Onto the build itself!
Fire:
*Spell Slinger: Cantrips grant you 3 stacks of might when used.
*Internal Fire: Deal 10% more damage when attuned to fire.
*Pyromancer’s Puissance: Each fire spell you cast grants you might for 10 seconds.
Water:
*Soothing Disruption: Cantrips grant you regeneration and vigor.
Arcana:
*Elemental Attunement: When attuning to an element, you and all your allies get a boon.
*Arcane Retribution: Gain Arcane Power at 75% health.
*Evasive Arcana: Create an attunement-based spell at the end of your dodge.
Utility Skills:
*Cleansing Fire
*Armor of Earth
*Lightning Flash
Mostly I’ve only tested this out in the Mists against the NPCs. It’s really glass cannon, but the extra regen from water and Soothing Disruption help, as well as the natural mobility of a D/D Elementalist. I put a full set of Superior Rune of the Eagle on my armor for a crit boost and Sigil of Intelligence and Sigil of Superior Battle on my daggers for more crit and 3 stacks of extra might every 20 seconds.
Like I said, I really don’t PvP, so as to whether or not this would be a viable build, I can’t say. I’d almost say “not really” because of how glass cannony this is. A few hits and you’re pretty much done. It’s fun to mess around with though.
1.) If you don’t want to be attacked my a griefing player pulling mobs into you, then you should then you shouldn’t leave your toon unattended.
2.) Exactly how do you get yelled at in a game without vocal communication? It’s not like you have to pay attention to those idiots.
3.) As for getting my daily done in Fractals or a dungeon… I don’t tell you how to play, don’t tell me how to play. I have neither the time or desire to spend hours finding, coordinating and completing one or two dungeons per day – especially after working all day, dealing with family needs, fixing dinner and children issues. I want to chill out and relax with a game.
Goodness, I wasn’t telling you how to play the game. It was merely one suggestion. You don’t need to take offense to every little post on these forums.
1. You should be able to leave your character next to a karma vendor or really anywhere that you know where monsters don’t spawn and be safe. I’m not saying leave it there for a half an hour, just long enough to go grab yourself a drink or something.
2. Forgive me for using a term that you object to. I may not have to pay attention to them, but it’s typically really hard to miss those /say bubbles when they’re in the middle of your screen and full of angry words.
3. I wasn’t telling anyone how to play this game. Climb down off your high horse for five minutes, please. I get that you work hard and want to unwind with a game after a long day. I’m not saying everyone should go and run fractals/dungeons to do this daily, merely that most of the people who complete this daily by going to lower level zones on their 80 toon just to find that mass of dead NPCs to rez have other options. Mostly because those people play for hours a day anyway.
I don’t give a kitten how you play your game. There’s just no need to be an kitten and purposely kill other players for your own selfish reasons. There’s no justification for that sort of behavior.
This happened to my guild a few months ago. We had no idea who had done it because two people left around the same time. It could have been either of them or even both of them working together. Either way, the exact name would be great to know.
The biggest problem I have with the breathing apparatus is that it can’t be crafted. We can craft all the underwater weapons, but not the re-breather? That seems silly to me. What’s even worse is trying to find that one karma vendor in the level 80 zones who sells them, and even then the stats are horrible. If we could craft them, I wouldn’t really have a problem with them.
You armor only gets damaged if you rez at a way point. If you get rezed by a player, then you take no armor damage.
Your armor gets damaged each time you’re defeated. Yeah, if you’re only downed and get rezzed then it won’t get damaged. Really, though, that’s besides the point. The point is that this daily requirement leads people to some really rude behavior and it needs to be dealt with.
The problem is that not only is this incredibly rude, your armor still gets damaged because you’re considered in combat. So while someone is purposely killing you while you went off to get a drink or what have you, you’re paying for it in silver.
On top of that, yesterday while leveling in The Blood Fields with some guild mates, we were getting yelled at for killing the skelks that were attacking the NPCs. All we wanted was to complete our renown heart and we ended up being harassed by level 80 players.
I don’t mind this daily requirement. What I do mind is the attitude people are developing because of it. It’s seriously not that hard to go run fractals or a dungeon or two and complete that part of the daily.
This is the exact thing that’s happening to me. I never thought of checking the Processes tab in my task manager. Not sure why I didn’t. I was always restarting my computer which now just seems silly. So at least now I have a quicker fix to this problem, although an actual fix from Anet would be great.
Just in case there is a commonality with this issue, my os is vista 64 bit, and I always use chrome as my browser…..usually check stuff online before I play
Windows 7 64 bit for me. And I’m loyal to Firefox.
I’ve been having a similar issue ever since the big patch for Flame and Frost. Although for me, using the task manager to exit the program doesn’t work. I always need to restart my computer. To even get anything to come up for the game before I restart, I have to run the game as an admin. When I do that, I always get a little pop-up box that says this:
“Already Running
Guild Wars 2 is unable to start because another copy is already running on this computer, or because the application has insufficient rights to successfully detect whether another copy is already running on this computer."
It’s getting very frustrating.
Still.
Ele’s auto-attack < fish statue.
Any Elementalist focusing solely on that air auto-attack being sub-par probably isn’t playing correctly. The point is to switch attunements frequently, not stay in one single one spamming the auto-attack until everything else in that attunement is off cooldown.
Tried 4 or 5 times, then said “nope, I’m’a farm some more candy corns.” Been happy since.
When I made this map I was HOPING that people who aren’t into jumping would do exactly this. They’d see a fun Halloween looking environment, maybe get to the first chest and snag a goodie, then be on their merry way. I see now it was a mistake to make the hardest jumping challenge in the game part of an in-your-face update like a holiday event. I’m not going to stop making difficult stuff like this, they just won’t be so prominent in the future. I honestly hate making people upset and have a very high level of empathy. So it’s been hard hearing all the people that are so angry, frustrated and sad because of something I’ve made. But it’s just another lesson learned.
Oh, don’t fret too much! My frustration came from my own shortcomings. I spent many hours trying to complete your puzzle, and just as much time swearing up a storm, but I had fun doing it. I love the puzzle and I love seeing other people complete it. It looks fabulous, and I know if I had more time I could eventually reach the top. Like you said, it probably wasn’t the greatest idea to throw it into the Halloween event, but you can’t learn if you don’t make mistakes. ^^
Not that we will never permanently destroy anything. In fact… well, I can’t say more than that.
You’re such a tease, Mr. Foreman! xD I can only hope you’re referring to this big update you guys have coming in November.
And I shudder to think what a “reasonable price” would be.
I thought it’ll be about 25s. I’m not greedy.
Sorry, just your wording made it sound a bit shady.
Either way, it’s a cheap way to get 10 achievement points for a holiday event. I’d much rather say that I got the achievement, rather than put my account at risk. And I shudder to think what a “reasonable price” would be.
Also, Flabber Babble, as much as I love your video, it will never help my coordination. xD
I spent so long on this Clock Tower, it sickens me. I was determined to get it, but yesterday I made a realization. I suck. I cannot complete that puzzle. I never made it past 25%, and I probably never will. And you know what? I’m okay with that. I’ve made my peace with it. I can complete every other puzzle in this game, but the Clock Tower will always evade me.
Besides, the light armor exotic slippers look exactly like the exotics I’m already wearing. :P
A friend got the achievement and he even disconnected, while I followed the Mad King all over the place, played his games, laughed at his jokes, and no Attend the Party for me :/
This was happening for me and a friend, too. He left Lion’s Arch and came back and got the title. I did the same and also got my achievement. Try that, and if it doesn’t work, it’s up to Anet to fix the glitch.
So far I’ve gotten exotic shoulders, one of the regular mini pet 3 packs, and various greens, bags, etc.
I think my favorite part of the plastic spiders is going back up the puzzle and jumping back into the cauldron as one. So fun.
This is the link for items needed to craft The Crossing. http://www.gw2db.com/items/70913-the-crossing
Found it in this thread. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/halloween/Anyone-know-if-it-s-possible-to-craft-The-Crossing-staff-skin/first#post521127
There’s supposed to be 6 rare skins that can be gotten from BLCs, but judging from the uproar, the drop rates are incredibly low. I think those can be crafted. The three from the vendors can be crafted, though? I didn’t know that. I know I did try transmuting the temporary one just for the hell of it, and got exactly what I expected. The temporary ones can’t be transmuted.
I bought one of the temporary staffs that cost 6s or 150 candy corn. That was pretty fun running around with. It has a little lantern hanging from the end of it. No stats, but for my own amusement, it was worth it. It’s called The Crossing.
Yeah, the candy corn are extremely easy to get. I think I managed to mine close to 400+ today. I would recommend using them for the monthly, though. Monthly achievement now gives 10 jugs of karma, and each jug gives somewhere around 4k karma.
As for the staff and mini, I’ve no clue. I hear the permanent weapon skins are something akin to legendaries in the materials needed, though.
The candy corn is used as currency for temporary Halloween themed weapons, crafting recipes (though what, I have no idea), and – if you’ve already grinded 150 and spent them already, you’re gonna hate this – for the monthly achievement. You need to eat 150 candy corn for the monthly.
You could just do this bit with a friend. A guild mate and I were watching two members of a separate guild duel in costume brawl. We would cheer when someone reached the next tier for Master Brawler. This isn’t an event that has to be done in a giant group right next to the forge. Find a friend or two and go out to a secluded area and beat the crap out of each other. I guarantee it’s much more fun this way.
Seeing as how this is only the first of four acts, I wouldn’t get all disgruntled immediately. There’s plenty more still to come, who knows what we’ll be getting later?
I have the most high hopes for Wizard’s Fief. Although I’m expecting them to be dashed, I really, really hope we can visit the wizard’s castle.
I’d hold out for the following acts. :] There’s some ghosts in Kessex Hills not related to the scavenger hunt that give some text about closing portals and whatnot. Possibly this and the Godslost Swamp stuff is related?
Something I’ve been finding a bit annoying is trying to view what each of my tamed pet’s abilities are without having to swap pets every single time. It would be nice to see that info more readily available. Unless it is somewhere and I just can’t find it.
bring people together, it feels to much like a solo console game.

i strongly urge you to consider implimenting more functionality in parties, as well as rewards for doing so. There is no real reason to group up with other players, and assisting a passer by or joining an event doesnt have the same teamwork feel as a party would/should. the real issue with partying is the one man army syndrome. since every player can do everything there is no desire or need to join in parties. in turn this system has made for horrible experiences in dungeon crawling which is one of the core components to any rpg.
I wholeheartedly disagree. The way this game was made means it is incredibly easy for me to solo the entire game if I really want to. But I don’t. I play this game a lot with my husband. We group together all the time. It makes things more fun, and a few things just a tad bit more challenging. When he’s not around, I usually run around by myself. But that’s not to say I’m not social. I’ve met so many people at vistas and jumping puzzles and helped them, or have gotten help myself.
Just today I completed a chain of events with a charr I didn’t even know, just the two of us. We didn’t talk, but we functioned as a team. At the end, we told each other good job and went on our way. But it was still fun.
As for there being no rewards for partying up, that’s also not true. Find yourself a guild and group with them. You’ll earn more influence in a party of guild mates, and in return you’ll get more bonuses. Let me tell you, 10% increased magic find for 3 days is amazing. If that’s not a reward, I don’t know what is.
The point is, you have to be making an effort to meet these people and join up with them. Start a conversation, you never know what you’ll get from it. You might just meet your new best friend.
